RIP Mark Hollis, I became a fan after seeing you support Duran Duran in the early eighties, and always hoped for you to return and give us more of your amazing music. Condolences to those who have lost you. Peace
As some people have already pointed out… the intensity and proficiency of the musicians, especially the drummer, bass player and keyboarder/pianist, the incredible emotional integrity of Mark Hollis’s unique vocals. Then there’s the depth of compositions and arrangements. The way they combined electronic elements with synths and organic instruments in such an intelligent and satisfying landscape of sounds. The whole thing even in 2023 is just WOW!!! I was extremely fortunate to have seen them in Hamburg on that tour, something I will always treasure. It’s been said many times but those of us who witnessed the eighties were unbelievably lucky. Truly great times:)
This is just wonderful. Timeless in the beauty of the compositions, arrangements, musicianship and how Mark Hollis created and sung such amazing melodies that only he could sing. A true innovator and original. How today’s younger music lovers don’t know what they have missed. Hopefully there’s a new kind of Talk Talk around the corner. That audience are soooo fucking lucky to have experienced this concert.
The passion on display is just so infectious. What a great gig! I loved them in the 80's as a teenager and had a couple of albums on cassette but it's only in recent years that I've bought the vinyls. They've really stood the test of time, unlike many other 80s bands. One of the best, along with The Sound, another criminally overlooked band who were fantastic. There's a great new documentary called In a Silent Way, focusing mostly on the last two avant garde albums but if you're a fan, you'll enjoy it.
Goosebumps every time I listen to them. And I’ve been listening to Talk Talk since the 80’s, their music is pure magic. It gives me so many mixed emotions that I can’t handle them. Thank you Mark Hollis, thank you so much.
that's exactly what i felt... such a range of feelings i haven't known for decades. That's really hard for someone with depression to handle. And it's incredibly beautiful:)

My favourite musicians since I bought their first album, The Party's Over in 1982, Talk Talk just became more and more sublime - no-one's vocals have ever touched my soul quite like those of Mark Hollis and never more so than during this supreme performance. God bless you Mark and thank you for your music.
The Party's Over, what a album that was back then . Some nights it was a life saver when the bright lights had faded and it was me alone in the car driving home. If that makes any sense.
there are bits in this live set that is pure magic, so much so that I feel it to the core of my heart. the whole set is so beautiful. Keep coming back to this show over and over again when I need some calm at work.
Usually, the live versions are not as good as the recorded ones. But with Talk Talk, they're flawless, and the live version is even better. Amazing band.
Remember the first time i heard this amazing voice my girlfriend at the time gave me this concert on tape cassette from that day my music taste changed - I would love to have the chance to see Hollis sing live his voice , lyrics are just beautiful - Along with Thom yorke he has to be one of the best songwriters of my generation
Unbelievable concert. Sound better live then on their albums. Love how Lee is so humble at the end, he just gets off thei kit & slips away at the back of the stage. No fanfair. Class x
For those who think they are a singer or even a musician, what a demonstration! Fan since the first hour, the band deserved to be better known. A big thank you for this sublime video, I have "the hairs that stand up". A great respect to the late Mark HOLLIS and his group; a great singer and outstanding musicians.
43:50 Living a another world , music of another planet. Mark Hollis - lead vocals John Turnbull - guitars, vocals Paul Webb - bass, vocals Ian Curnow - organ, piano Rupert Black - electric piano, drum machine Lee Harris - drums Phil Reis - percussion Leroy Williams - percussion
He has now retired from the music industry. He has stated about his decision to retire from performing, "I choose for my family. Maybe others are capable of doing it, but I can't go on tour and be a good dad at the same time." Despite Hollis's absence from the public eye, he (as well as Talk Talk) continue to be mentioned in the press, inside Britain and outside, often as an example of an artist who refused to sacrifice his artistic ambition to commercial success and as a yardstick for current artists.
I saw Talk Talk live one month after this concert, in Copenhagen. They played alongside New Order and Depeche Mode. All bands at the absolute height of their game. I was such a massive Depeche-fan at that time, and I was so young, that I couldn't fully appreciate the superior quality of the musicianship this magic band displayed that night, compared to DM, with their tapes, sequencers and samlpes. Over the years, Talk Talk has become one of man favorite bands, totally unique. The night I heard Mark Hollis had passed, I felt so priveledged having witnessed his genius on stage, if only for that one time. R.I.P. Mark.
Such an amazing live performance! I adore Talk Talk. Mark Hollis was so incredibly passionate. Loved them in the 80’s and maybe even more now. Would have loved to have been at that performance. Glad to be able to watch it here, over and over. 😁✌️
Talk Talk has been one of my favorite bands since "The Color Of Spring", and my absolute favorite band since "Laughing Stock". As someone who is not usually a fan of live recordings, I had absolutely no idea, none at all, that they were this mind-blowingly intense and extraordinary on stage, only discovered this Montreux concert last week and have played it over and over, easily more than a dozen times in the past five days. And just like that, now it's become only one of two live albums that I absolutely love, the other being Peter Gabriel's "Plays Live".
I love Talk Talk! Incredibly talented. The live sound on this amazing! What a band! Mark Hollis is and incredible singer. Always perfectly on pitch and seems like a very humble and just nice guy. RIP.
A wonderful concert! They also managed it, that the boring peace “ does Caroline know” sounded groovy. On the album, someone has forgotten it. Unbelievable good Talk Talk, unforgettable Marc Hollis! I had the luck to have seen them live ❤️
I have practically worshipped this band for over 25 years. This recording is sublime - having seen it, half of me is even more annoyed that I never saw them play live; the other half is relieved that I now know they were as majestic as I'd assumed.
Montreux has been a documentation of some of the most amazing musical artists, TalkTalk at the very top of them... amazing performance so ahead of its time...
I watched this with a mixture of delight and regret. A fan since day 1 but I had never seen them live. I was offered a ticket to the Hammersmith show in 1986 and turned it down because I had an A level oral exam the following day. I regretted my decision in the morning - even more so after I messed up the exam. And nearly 37 years and over 200 gigs later I now know that I missed an incredible show. Such a shame.
One of my favourite bands and it's incredible to see these songs take on a new life in a live setting. Expert musicianship all round and a special shout out to the bass playing.
The 11th of july 1986, what a crazy summer that was. 4 Days later we celebrated my 16th (Oh my) birthday peeps. I got a few fav bands and this is one of them. One of my fav concerts even, ever. I enjoyed watching this video quit some times over the last few years but always forgot to say thank you to the uploader, so Thank you so much Skyhawk747! Bless you. ;-)
I just love this band, as it all comes together. The atmosphere, the music, the sound, the lyrics... The audio is brilliant. The band is playing in perfection... Mark`s voice is such an elementary instrument of the band. Thanks for uploading.
A gem. So unlucky that they didn't go on making music. So much creativity, so much power. There were a few bands in the 80's i also miss in the same way likeTears for fears as example. Brilliant musicians.
Great upload! Their 1986 London CD has been out for decades. It was recorded on this same "tour", a few months earlier (Hammersmith, May 1986), but it seems as if they REALLY sharpened and improved the gig during those months: the Montreux performance is head and shoulders over London. The quality of recording (audio mix and fidelity) is super, too, as is the camerawork/video direction. Thx again for the share!
Man, if there was one concert in the entire history of mankind that I would have liked visited, it would have been this one. So jealous for everyone, who was actually there!
Thank you very much, thank you very much. No thank you for some of the best music ever. From the first time I saw them supporting Duran Duran, progressing with there albums while I worked in Australia. They have been my life’s soundtrack and always will. My favourite group ever, nothing comes close to the songs they have produced. I thank Talk Talk for the soundtrack of my life. 😢
All this powerfull musicians and artist at his best. Incredible. You can feel every note, the rithm, the compass, all the instruments and Hollis voice appears in every song just in time and with the perfect power. Wonderfull. What a session...My God
Such great musicians and such a great, soul touching singer. If he sang about McDonald's hamburgers he would sound great, but his lyrics actually also mean something. Such pleasure to listen to this live performance. Musical orgasm. I'd like to hear more from them. It soothes the soul. These contemporary musicians can't compare to this at all. Thank you for the upload!
I saw them at KINGWOOD THEATRE in what is now Vaughn at Canada's Wonderland, I believe it was 1984. What a concert. They opened up for Psychedelic Furs. It was brilliant.

Still love Talk Talk 30 years later. R.I.P. the genius that is Mark Hollis
Nice and real good music, almost forgotten. Buried by heartless music of our days.
What a voice, what a band....
Thinking the same thing! One of those distinctive brand voices. Like David Gahan, or the Cure. Amazing.

Romantic Man, the Golden Voice. 😘 😍 💋 💋
Mark Hollis,
For EVER. 😘. I
It's not often a band can produce a better sound than on their albums, but these 8 musicians are superb. Wish I'd been there. Pure brilliance!
I wish I could have seen these live. Sublime.
'Life's what you make it' - I've listened to it a million times - and it still exhilirates me like the first time I heard it
I saw Talk Talk live one month after this concert, in Copenhagen.
Never ever imagined they were sooooooooooooooooooooo good live!!! Great show, thanks for sharing.
Fabulous,, all the musicians.. From the little percussion details to the keyboards, amazing rhytm section, singer.... So nice
Truth....
"Thank you very much,
thank you very much,
Goodnight,
God Bless.
Thank you very much."
he is not only a great talent but a true gentleman.
With this amazing voice!
Mark Hollis feels the music in such an intense way...
Truth.....
Freakin talented man. That guitar solo in "such a shame"....so solid.
you mean the keyboard-solo at 1:14:46? ;-)
Richard Hanno Nope. Base to guitar starting at th-cam.com/video/dTOYdH6tdSQ/w-d-xo.htmlh16m25s
Lawrence Smith YES! super solo!!
super solo guitar and best song..............
It's the best version I have EVER heard. I love them regardless, but I truly had no idea they were so talented.
I love Talk Talk! Incredibly talented. The live sound on this amazing! What a band! Mark Hollis is and incredible singer. Always perfectly on pitch and seems like a very humble and just nice guy. RIP.
Stunning sound
A wonderful concert! They also managed it, that the boring peace “ does Caroline know” sounded groovy. On the album, someone has forgotten it. Unbelievable good Talk Talk, unforgettable Marc Hollis! I had the luck to have seen them live ❤️
I have practically worshipped this band for over 25 years. This recording is sublime - having seen it, half of me is even more annoyed that I never saw them play live; the other half is relieved that I now know they were as majestic as I'd assumed.
RIP Mark Hollis, I'm still enjoying your music 37 years later, nearly to the day !
What can be said. Absolutely perfect live rendition
Montreux has been a documentation of some of the most amazing musical artists, TalkTalk at the very top of them... amazing performance so ahead of its time...
Atmospheric, Ethereal, great show. One of the better bands of the 80s
Wow. Just wow. Amazing band. Love Mark Hollis's voice, one of the best.
Bless you. ;-)
What a magnificent performance. 1of my none reggae top 10 live goodies!!! Namasté.
Incredible show - and this version of Life's What you Make is simply unbelievable.
perfect concert, love it.
I wish I could go back in time for 1h30 just to witness this in real. Lucky people in the crowd!
No me canso de escucharte y verte Mark, sos y fuiste un grande de la música, original y único, love u
This singer has a great intensity, love this.I also love their beat & their sensivity. My thumb up!
soooo nice!Love his Voice, this beautiful melodies. R.i.P
Happiness is easy! Don't forget.....
Its a must for Talk Talk lovers. And anyhow - the best gig I've ever seen. A massive experience. I'm amazed.
Thx again for the share!
fucking amazing! My foolish friend sounds awesome. Much love for this band...
Man, if there was one concert in the entire history of mankind that I would have liked visited, it would have been this one.
So jealous for everyone, who was actually there!
hanno cavalcano gli anni 80 con onore e dignità oltre alla grande musica...in tempi molto restrittivi
RIP Mike Hollis, I neved had the chanche to see you live and I was too young when Talk Talk released their last album, I really regret that!
All this powerfull musicians and artist at his best.
Incredible. You can feel every note, the rithm, the compass, all the instruments and Hollis voice appears in every song just in time and with the perfect power.
Wonderfull. What a session...My God
This concert is just beautiful!
Awesome Sound
Best sounding music video on the tube even better sounding then the DVD version of this show:)
such a tragic loss will miss your beautiful soul ..and Voice
If you followed Talk Talk through their prime you would notice that this is sung perfect by Mark, I mean its tone perfect, amazing.
Absolute perfection!!! A three song encore.......what a ridiculously talented band!
One of the best 80s bands brilliant.
No theatrics,just great music.Bloody awesome.Thanks for posting.
DEFINITELLY SUCH A GREAT BAND, I LOVE IT.
