@Cannon Baller2020 that is a nice story. I was in my late teens when I first watched this and was blown away. It inspired me so much that my brothers and I formed a band and covered A Forest, Boys don’t cry and killing an Arab. Not anywhere close to this but I have happy memories. I was hooked on The Cure and have been ever since. This gig also inspired me to get the same haircut as Smith had here and soon after I was in New York in a guitar shop and bought a black and white fender telecaster as well. All in all this VHS cost me a lotta cash lol
@@lukeoverthere1364 thank you so much!! Yeah, the VHS tape cost me a ton too, and I only had half of the money. My parents gave me the other $25 but loads of washing dishes, taking out garbage, cleaning my room, and other stuff, while my 3 brothers laughed at me, gave me the rest to get it. My 2nd oldest brother loved The Cure and asked me on numerous occasions to borrow it, and I smugly told him no way....or I made him clean my room, dirty socks and everything! 🤣🤣 That's awesome you started a band and did their song's. My friend's and I tried to start a band and I was going to be the bass player.....but sadly, I had and still have no instrument playing capabilities and was way better at sport's. They all got pissed at me for not learning in a month and stopped talking to me.....long story, but they were a-holes. That's a really cool story you told me and at least you tried and could play. The only instrument I ever played was the clarinet....and I sucked at that too!! 🤪🤣
I got to see them in concert about five years ago. They were phenomenal. I usually don't like live music, but they were great. I was amazed at how energetic Simon was; he stomped around the stage the whole thing.

I ❤ The Cure! This concert is exactly why I fell in love with their music. That love has grown thru the yrs & has made such an impact on my 12yr old son, who accompanies me to their shows (when we’re lucky enough to get to see them in USA). Thank you for being a constant in our lives. Love always ❤
Hay musica que se graba en lo más profundo de tu ser, que crece contigo y que nunca te abandona. Este concierto forma parte de mi ADN y ha crecido conmigo. Gracias The Cure por darnos tanto.
i just got into the Cure a year ago....and the best thing about finding a band with years and years of art is that there is sooo much material to sift through and enjoy , over and over , etc.. the worst is....well.... that a i missed a concert like this , but joy....= its recorded.
A year ago? Me? I bought Head on the door when it was new. A marriage, 3 kids (now adults) a divorce, and a remarriage...(to my wife) plus 8 different jobs... Youth... It's wasted on the young 😢
Reading all these comments makes me so happy. Amazing how much The Cure has touched all our lives. I will be forever indebted to Robert for his creation.
I first saw the Cure in Sydney at the Horden Pavillion around 1984 and I will never forget it. Lucky enough to see them again in the 90’s…they are absolutely extraordinary live. THANK YOU for sharing this. I wish too it would be released in HD 💜
Absolutely INCREDIBLE. Thanks so much for putting this here for us to enjoy. I was never lucky enough to get the VHS video and hope one day it will be on DVD. I could happily just watch this forever and never get bored. Simon mesmerises me, not going to lie!
Imagine if the earliest formative versions of The Cure had found a "good" lead singer. Robert would never have reluctantly taken on the role himself and we would never know his voice, music, words and soul. I have heard Orange many times from the late 80's onwards but his voice is absolutely stunning, then and now. Watching this again I realised that there has been no one like him before and no singer has come close since. There are other great singers, of course, but his voice resonates with the core of my heart and body. I am sure that scientific studies would prove this, but I don't need any proof. On my first listen of Alone his voice had me in tears immediately, the music perfectly guiding me to the point of emotional, cathartic release. Alone also seems to perfectly sum up the state of the world we live in at the moment. Again, no singer dares to touch on this subject. When Bowie died people said that they were glad to have been alive and accompanied by his songs. I am grateful that the soundtrack to my life was provided by The Cure.
Same. So glad to have them soundtracking my life since I got into them aged 12. I'm nearly 52 now and Robert continues to give voice to how I feel after all these years.
Sometimes I remind myself that Robert wrote A Forest, One Hundred Years and Charlotte sometimes, easily three of the greatest songs in modern music history, by the age of 21. Unparalleled genius.
The first time I seen them was 3 years before this in Glasgow barrowlands in 84...it was my first gig.... amazing I will never forget it...the set was outstanding and at this time a prity dam good lineup...I met them a few years later at back of Edinburgh playhouse...and still got the pics ✌️🖤😸

I have bought VHS in Poland at early 90's. It had sound delay with picture more than 5 sec, unfortunately. So, it's the first time for me to see it with almost perfect synchronization😅
I thought the same but after repeated listens of the new album the current is really good as well. Pearl is definitely missed thou. Roberts compositions are really orchestral on the new album.

I owned this VHS in high-school and I gave it to my hot friend, Choi Wu. She was so cool. I gave her all my Cure imports. Thanks for doing this. I haven't heard in over 30 years.
Saw Cure's first US appearances back in, hmm, 80 at the Ritz. I was heavily into their sound and will listen again for a bit but today, 40 yrs later I can only listen for a while otherwise it gives me a gloomy mood. It reminds me of bad times with an ex bf that I'd rather forget. With that, I bid you goodnight.

The place they're playing in is the oldest and best example of a Roman Theatre. It sat decaying until renovation started, and began seeing regular use for varied events in the mid-1800's. At the time of this recording, the "Orange" had recently been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
must have been their best live gig ever! besides, this version of A Forest is by far the best available one for any live event of The Cure - you can scream, you can dispute, you can cry, but that's all you can do about...
I don't have to scream and cry but simply state to you: 1992 Show version of A Forest is superior. Extended with "she's lost control" riff from Joy Division was the best version ever
My Top 3 favorite live concerts....The Cure-In Orange (this one)....U2 (Under a Blood Red Sky)...and Depeche Mode (Music For the Masses 101)...I can see and listen to them over and over ...never get bored...
I don't think anyone who has sold millions of records can be considered underrated. What do you want? A bronze statue of the guy, and a day named after him? Is that what it would take for him to not be considered underrated?
Robert always said that he did not like the way the concert was filmed. He said that it was not them. It's interesting because for their public, it is them. He is wrong here.

For me those songs that drag us down to our darkest times, give me strength and understanding of how I’ve grown from those times. I came to this understanding as I pondered why I enjoy dark sound imagery. It’s a growing experience. The Cure “Robert” are masters at this.
Sooo grateful that somebody had the foresight to do this on film, when so much was videotaped at the time. Amazing performance, Thank you. You make a difference. ❤️
Yeah what would be even better is if it was actually released with 4K film quality instead of just being upscaled off of an old videotape. What they heck are they waiting for?

I would have sold my soul to see this concert in the flesh. It's as close to perfection as anything I've ever seen and heard. Wonderful job on the remaster!
amen
I was there and it was the best evening ever! absolutely wonderful
I was there and it is unbelievable to be able to see it now, after such a long time!!!!!!!
Yes, me too. It was so magical and a beautiful evening.!
Best band of all time! Robert Smith is a musical genius!
Shows in a time that did not exist mobiles were ,with no doubt , better. With no nostalgia, but this film is fabulous .
I use to rent the vhs of this concert at least once a month for like a year until the vcr broke. Thanks for this perfect quality upload.
I rented this at the local video store in 89 and never gave it back . the first of three tapes . I loaned it to a friend and he never gave it back 😂
I still have the VHS somewhere😂
Ahhhh!!!! This brings me back to 1986 at 9 years old, riding my bike 10 miles to the only record store in town to buy this VHS tape. I left and I got it!!! I loved it so much then and I love it so much now!! I will always be a fan!!
Cool story!
@@silversaint Thank you so much!!! Makes me feel very OLD though!! 🤣🤣
I was 12 years old , and i saw this video all the time , now is the same sense.
That's awesome you started a band and did their song's. 🤪🤣
Wow never thought they'd sound even better live than on recording
I think The Cure is one of those bands that always sounds better live than on recording.
@@wpleary2 I agree 100%
Ya dude.....check Robert Smith out live.....!!!! Bucket list.
I got to see them in concert about five years ago. They were phenomenal. I usually don't like live music, but they were great. I was amazed at how energetic Simon was; he stomped around the stage the whole thing.
Blown away when I heard this for the first time, how can live sound so much better? It just does
That voice is so iconic as is the entire ensemble. Some bands are timeless and will be enjoyed and marveled at for generations. This is one!
Boris Williams greatest drummer the Cure ever he was better than a Drum Machine his Patterns were outstanding for this band he had a feel that otherwordly perfect for the bands voice.
Bought this VHS day it was released, still got it. Had it converted to DVD, but this ...wow !
Many Thanks.
Here's (still) hoping for the Blu-ray !
This is just one of the best concert films of all times. The band - legends.
People need to realize," Play for Today" is A MASTERPIECE and this video proves it!!!
Man, would love a true 4K release of this....I can only imagine the cool stuff The Cure must have in the archives after 40+ yrs of playing.
My favorite live concert of all time ♥️🏆
I just love live concerts.
im right there with ya
Porl Thompson, a great Guitar Player...With many Flanging, Phasing,Chorus.....Yeah.
Same. I watched this 1000 times on VHS.
same with me
One of the reasons like the cure, they sound better in live than studio . Maybe just me, love watching live stuff
New record in 14 years, out in November ! Then a tour... you'll see them. 😉
Try to go see them live if they tour for their new and what I assume will be their last album.
Is crazy
Lol
@@danjones3176it’s always their “last album” 😂. We literally know there are two more he has talked about. One comes out in October 2024.

Reading all these comments makes me so happy. Amazing how much The Cure has touched all our lives. I will be forever indebted to Robert for his creation.
same😍😍😍😍😍
I first saw the Cure in Sydney at the Horden Pavillion around 1984 and I will never forget it. Lucky enough to see them again in the 90’s…they are absolutely extraordinary live. THANK YOU for sharing this. I wish too it would be released in HD 💜
Wonderful concert.. The Cure at its peak! great lind up.. Boris shines with his uncanny ability and great live sound.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE. Thanks so much for putting this here for us to enjoy. I was never lucky enough to get the VHS video and hope one day it will be on DVD. I could happily just watch this forever and never get bored. Simon mesmerises me, not going to lie!
A bygone era when music was real and you actually had to be talented to perform live. I miss that time and this concert is exquisite. Thank you
Imagine if the earliest formative versions of The Cure had found a "good" lead singer.
Absolutely Epic...this concert is legendary. Great location, Robert with short hair, a great athmosphere and a perfect playlist! Amazing, timeless
This is pure magic, pure joy, pure memories, this makes live worth living. My favorite band ever!❤️❤️❤️
❤
Ich habe dieses Konzert schon Hundertemale gesehen und es ist immer wieder Geil zu sehen, Legendär.
Looks incredible. Waiting for a HD release for decades !
Same
Sometimes I remind myself that Robert wrote A Forest, One Hundred Years and Charlotte sometimes, easily three of the greatest songs in modern music history, by the age of 21. Unparalleled genius.
Indeed. Lucky to have seen them a handful of times over the years. This concert is astonishingly good.
My cousin who was also from glasgow loves the cure. I'm not sure if he saw them live though? He lives in Portugal.
@@Halfscotboy_39 thats cool. I hope hes seen them.
@@GutterHeartsTV I think maybe just from tv? He also liked Madness, Supergrass and The Stranglers (Golden Brown) was a particular fave of his I remember him telling me back in the day. 👍
wow, what an unforgettable experience, im so happy smiling at my screen reading that..I can’t imagine how amazing it must’ve been to be experience their peak years in real life..
@@ntz7358 ye I was so lucky, it was live on BBC at the time and I got a ticket for free that afternoon and still have it...That gig is actually on TH-cam. 🖤
Incredible .. just incredible! Saw them in NYC in June 2023
Same voice !!❤❤❤
I just said the same exact thing. I was lucky enough to be at the night they played 3 Imaginary Boys which is my favorite Cure song.
Their sound is unique. They never copy anyone & nobody can copy them. Cure are one category by their own. As for this concert... just a M A S T E R P I E C E. !!!
Yeah!! full agree. The sounding just awesome superb L i v e postpunk
My absolute favorite version of a Forest ever
In an alternate world The Cure released In Orange on Blu Ray and 4K. Renting this VHS on Blockbuster back in the 90’s got me into The Cure.
It even came out on Laser Disc! I had a player but not this concert.
I still have the VHS! (stolen from my sister, LOL)
I had no money as a kid back in Mexico....all I had was enough to get me a copy of Disintegration....that album was contagious and was the one that got me into The Cure, I was around 11 years....magic times and memories.....
A hundred years, and probably people will still listening to them in the future..... Robert is a real Genius!
Their performance is perfect, especially “A Night Like This” which is absolutely magical.
Best Cure LIVE EVER!
Had it on shitty VHS back in the day.
"A Forest" for the win!
Watched it in 4k here - thank you, sir!
I have bought VHS in Poland at early 90's. It had sound delay with picture more than 5 sec, unfortunately. So, it's the first time for me to see it with almost perfect synchronization😅
My favorite Cure line up.
I thought the same but after repeated listens of the new album the current is really good as well. Pearl is definitely missed thou. Roberts compositions are really orchestral on the new album.
My favorite live ever !
This 4K remastered is amazing, sound is so good with effect in a forest. I love it even more.
Thanks for the share 👏🤟
My god...he absolutely nails the vocals in 'Push'. so great. especially at 45:51. makes the hair on my neck tingle.
I agree 100%. I love him and that song so much 🖤 it was one of the best moments when I saw them live last year. I'll keep it in my heart forever.
Fave song off HOTD
I'm not a huge Cure fan but I absolutely love this concert. If I had known about it back then I'm sure I would have attended, it's not far from where I live. Thanks for the video!
I owned this VHS in high-school and I gave it to my hot friend, Choi Wu. She was so cool. I gave her all my Cure imports.
Thanks for doing this. I haven't heard in over 30 years.
I've done this before too. All for love, eh?
I still have this on VHS ;)
Saw Cure's first US appearances back in, hmm, 80 at the Ritz. I was heavily into their sound and will listen again for a bit but today, 40 yrs later I can only listen for a while otherwise it gives me a gloomy mood. It reminds me of bad times with an ex bf that I'd rather forget. With that, I bid you goodnight.
I need to get me some Choi Wu
Magical lineup. All contributions an absolutely unique sound. For all the production on their albums, they sound so great live. Saw them on the Prayer tour, then the Wish tour and this year on Songs of a Lost World. Love how generous they are with their fans.
Hands down the best concert video ever.
I was the right age, at 16 to have been there. If it weren't for the Atlantic ocean and being in high school. Long live The Cure. Long live the 80's.
I know I've commented before but I had to shout out to my other Cure fans and scream, I'M SEEING THEM IN JUNE!!! AHHHHHHH!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
ME TOO!!!!!!!! i’m seeing them in atlanta and i’m SOOOOOOOO excited
@@alienlapdanceI never got your response until now. What did you think??? I thought it was beautiful, magical, and so much more. I swear if Robert doesn't bring the new album out soon, I'm going to start feeling muderous!! 🤣🤣🤪🤪
@@CBaller2020 it WAS beautiful!!!! even 3 months later it’s still unbelievable that I was in THE SAME ROOM as Robert and Simon and all the rest of them. Us too!we saw them in June of this year in Boston show!🥰♥️🖤 fantastic and memorable!
Fabulous ❤
Their concerts in the 80's...they sounded fantastic ❤❤❤
My absolute favorite concert of all time.
One of the few bands that sounds as good and better live. Forest is always a track that shines live. Faith is immense in this set.
The Forest is timeless.... still incredible in 2024. 😊😊
@@JustinQuinn623 if you mean the Wish tour from 1992...ok, sounds reasonable, video is nice but somehow does not make it :-)
The definitive version of Sinking. They have never played it better since.
My favorite live concert of all time. Thank you for posting this awesome live video.
Thanks you
My Top 3 favorite live concerts....The Cure-In Orange (this one)....U2 (Under a Blood Red Sky)...and Depeche Mode (Music For the Masses 101)...I can see and listen to them over and over ...never get bored...
I'm extremely happy you have put this up...! Been trying to find it for years. And you've done a fantastic job upscaling the quality. Cheers...!
In 2023, 37 years later, Robert sings those tunes with the same powerful voice. Such an underrated singer.
Underrated by who?
by your mom!
underrated...
underrated ??? LOL. The dude has appeared even in South Park episode)
I don't think anyone who has sold millions of records can be considered underrated. What do you want? A bronze statue of the guy, and a day named after him? Is that what it would take for him to not be considered underrated?
I still have my bootleg tapes from this show! What a time to be alive.
me too😍
One of the best gigs they ever did.
Finally got to see them live, so glad to be there, great performance , Thank you for this
This is a such a classic, they keep promising this as a BluRay release, and it never happens. Such a shame. Thanks for the upload.
Robert always said that he did not like the way the concert was filmed. He said that it was not them. It's interesting because for their public, it is them. He is wrong here.
I remember when I brought the VHS of this magical concert. I saw it many times until the tape was broken. Then I looked for it in digital but only I found it in parts in other place not TH-cam. Thank you for share it now the complete concert in TH-cam and in 4K! Excelent!
J'y etais, par hasard, au premier rang. Je n'aurais jamais imaginé à l'époque regarder cette vidéo à l'âge de 60 ans...
Were you really????? Oh my God!!! I would've gone absolutely nuts! I was 12 when I watched this and fell in love with Simon. I wanted to have his children.... at 12 years old. I was a dumb kid, I know. 🤣🤣🤪🤪

@@jamiparrish8806 At that time, I was not working. I lived in Digne in the Alpes de Haute Provence. A friend was looking for company to go out. He had the information about this concert in Orange and at the last moment he said "Are we going?". We found the tickets on site. I still have mine. I kept all my concert tickets. It is crossed out because it was printed for the Dax concert on August 4. We snuck into the front row and met a guy who shared what he smoked with us. It was a great night. After the concert we couldn’t find the car, lol.
Really wonderful concert. The Cure makes me get to the substances of music, These songs make me happy, be synpathized, and experiance catharsis.
Everything is perfect.
Thank much for this vedio.
El mejor concierto de Cure, de toda su carrera. El sonido , los temas , el lugar !!!!! . Tuve la suerte de conocer ese lugar.
Epic show. Not a cell phone on sight. Everyone is connected through the music as it should be
Folks with cell phones are still fully enjoying the show. wake up old person!
Yawn.... people using phones are still watching and enjoying the show.
..listening to it in mono, now that’s progress 🤨
Slam dancing to The Cure! I have been listening to The Cure for years and this is definitely my favorite lineup. 🙂
late 80's we would always slam to " In between Days", but it was fun slamming back then people actually caring about each other, no intent to harm just expend energy and have a laugh.
I still can almost not listen to some Cure songs, in particular a Strange Day. It just transports me straight into the most painful time of my entire life. But absolutely brilliant that great music can do that.
For me those songs that drag us down to our darkest times, give me strength and understanding of how I’ve grown from those times.
I came to this understanding as I pondered why I enjoy dark sound imagery. It’s a growing experience. The Cure “Robert” are masters at this.
One of the best ever concerts by the greatest band in the world!!! The Cure forever!!!
An Army buddy introduced me to The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy and Social Distortion while stationed in Germany together.
Love a forest so much, it still gives me goose bumps after all these years. Stevie boy 2024.XX.
I did this Tour. This was a Fantastic gig. Two nights , if I remember correctly. Lovely Tour.
2 nuits à Orange ?
OMFG this is fucking AMAZING!!! The remastering is actually better than I had anticipated I just wish I could own the Blu-ray ❤️❤️❤️ thank you xxx
No phones, keeping it real and having a mosh to the Cure ...great times.
As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's, we never would have had access to this stuff, never even would have known about it! I had my cassettes and that was pretty much it. With the advent of TH-cam there is a whole world of content that is at our fingertips! Thank you for posting this, I went straight away to ebay and bought the DVD! Amazing video and quality sound! What a perfect setting for a Cure show, I can only imagine what it would have been to experience that moment ...bravo!
A fresh image for a classic concert... Thank you very much for this great job!!
OMG. I love the first minute when Robert's wig is tossed away. The slo-mo smile and joy in his face. Made me all warm inside. F**king awesome.
