Yo guys in Inda being called black or the slangs we use is not connected to race it's not really even a bad thing (well mostly), for analogy take our god Krishna he was blackish skin colour and we called him shyam which means evening or the colour of evening, you see it's completely different culture, most people here don't even know what racism is.

We just don't know what is racism, we don't follow it. India is colourful country. All kind of peoples live here and all are welcome.
If you go to the north you will find pale,
If you go to the south you will find black, there are brown, pink, yellow. So many different peoples.
In my family my cousin is black, I'm brown, my other cousin is pale.
Nature make beautiful things and we are also one of her beautiful creations.
Words are not hurtful, the intention behind the words are hurtful.
Again good and bad live together.

      Kaliya also means blacky.
we often make jokes like that, He must be pulling your leg.
First of all peoples shouldn't joke like that with foreigners, for us colour means just a colour but for outsiders it can be serious issue and some stupid peoples don't understand that.
I'm sorry if you are offended by them.

I am an Indian living in India. My work has meant I have lived in many different cities in India. The moment the locals sense you are an outsider they stare... Dude, I am an Indian in India and they stare. No, I don't look different (see my profile pic) but just because people feel you are an outsider, they stare.... That's what we Indians do, we stare.... A lot... So don't let it bother you.
They're not staring at you because you look different. They are curious because you are not one of them. Smile and say "Hello" and then surf the wave of questions that follow.
We Indians are a curious lot and I have had many times explaining things to strangers.... Even a lot of personal stuff.
Remember the antidote to "strangeness" is familiarity. The more the staring people get to know you, the more friends you shall have. And we Indians are great, life long friends.
So next time you see a stare think here's a person who's going to be friends with me!

It's going to be hard, but I would agree- it's better to be hospitable. My grandmother was even "racist" towards my black dog if classical Indian behavior is racism, since she made so many comments about his black fur (although she also cared for the dog a lot). Most Indians don't mean to be racist, but they just talk snidely about things so casually and come off as mean, despite not always meaning to be so- we're just not the most sensitive group of people, but maybe it's time to start making a better impression.

Hey guys. I just want you to know that in India we have had little to no previous contact with people from Africa. This makes people here quite curious when they see you. India is surely racist in its own ways, but it definitely isn't like the racism you find in most of the white dominated countries.
There is also this problem that not many people from your continent ever came here to settle themselves, or for education purposes or make a career here, so we surely lack the sensitization towards people of African origin. We don't know much of your history and the atrocities that have been caused by white colonists on the people of Africa, so we don't generally understand how bad a joke can be to someone whose history has been so traumatized. But trust me brothers, our jokes are never meant to scratch those historical wounds. The slangs like Kallu, Kaliya, etc, are the same slangs we often use with our own friends who happen to be of darker skin colour. Some people might think I am trying to defend casual racism, but that's the problem you see, most people here don't understand political correctness when it comes to friendships specially in the sense of racism. We are trying to educate ourself, we are a developing countries where other problems also exist, so it is taking time to create sensitivity in people so that they understand these kind of necessary filters. I am sorry for your bad experiences, but we will make sure that the future of India is more sensitive towards you. Afterall we are brothers as we have shared history of suffering and slavery under the white colonialism. All the very best for your studies, I hope when you leave this place, you have better memories of India. ♥️

We say that to our loved ones. I call my sister kali and even my best friend . We don't feel offended, its like a calling sweetheart in indian way😂. And fun fact is we Indians worship maa kali ( Indian goddess) and even shyam was blackish. We worship them we literally don't feel offended being called black it's preety normal ( even if u are fair) . So according to India black is a word originated from the Indian language of love😉❣️. To all black friends who are in India and are planning to visit India, just so you know, we Indians comment on each other's skin colour all the time, but we mean no malice. The western type of racism is not practiced and is unknown here. A dark-skinned south Indian person gets called "kala" (black) and a fair-skinned north Indian gets called "gora" (white) frequently and neither of that is taken as an offence. So I urge my black friends to not think there's racism involved when Indians comment on your skin colour. This actually means the exact opposite, that the person considers you a friend and is comfortable enough to make a comment.

Whenever he'd visit my house to play cricket the boys in my street would shout "britisher" behind his back just coz he's of a different skin tone. We Indians are so diverse and almost all of us are a minority in atleast one aspect say skin color, religion, language, region or caste. So we are used to being identified by that minority identity for example although I'm a brown skinned Hindu I'm also a migrant in my city and come from a micro minority caste in this region. 1) Wr don't say black like racism .. it's more like fun and we expect the same from other ppl u can make fun of us too that way we become frnds fast.. I call my best frnd black ..
    2) we don't see too many black ppl in india that's y seeing one is more like curiosity.
    3) getting house is difficult becoz black ppl get media attention when they are caught in drugs and all ..so they have bad image in that sense.
    4) and yeah indians don't think about personal space ..becoz most of us live in joint families ..
    5) about girls being hoes that was new fir me .. I never heard any that .. intresting.

I have a lot of black friends in Europe from various parts of Africa - from Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco etc. I have experienced racism multiple times away from home so I can only understand how you guys might feel if you come across such a thing here. A significant amount of population are still illiterate in India or backwards minded, so apologies for that on their behalf. The country and the people's mind are still developing. Indians look down upon other Indians who are dark so the obsession with light skin is real. I would like to say, ignore such people, fulfill your dreams, reach heights and never give up! Besides that, India is a beautiful country and there are a lot of kind hearted people as well. All the best!

As an African visiting India also found it strange at first and somehow got used to it at the end of my trip which lasted for 2 months. I think it is lack of knowledge and ignorance to the other level. Yes they stare too much when they see different person where it makes you feel so unconformable but what I did was just smile say hi and stare back to brake the awkwardness ☺and they will start giggling as soon as you leave the room or the elevator 🤦and i find it funny sometimes and some are respectful and nice. but i am thankful i went with an Indian family friend at that time. Otherwise it would have been so taught on language barrier (most don't feel comfortable speaking English or they don't speak at all )and colorism (Most of their beauty products are all about how fair it could make you look 👀 that tells you how they even try hard to have white complexation to feel somehow superior even among their own society and look down upon whoever has a darker color than them 🤦‍♀).

In India people can tease you for anything. Being dark skinned, white skinned, too tall, too short or even on noexisting things. It is meant for teasing each other in a funny way, to keep life light and easy. It is hardly meant to hurt anyone. Racism doesn't exist in India. You will see millions of couples in India who literally look as a black and white combination. Also, Indians come in all shades, shapes, multiple races and ethnicities. It is an Inherently deverse nation and culture since ancient times. Hence Indians are naturally comfortable with people with different appearance or cultures. We have a common value system though. RESPECT HUMAN VALUES, DON'T OVERREACT AND LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE. Simple. Once you learn that, you become Indian. In such a society, racism cannot exist.

The concept of racism is quite different in India compared to what is commonly known in the west. Indians BS with each other a lot about their skin color, and yes, it does have something to do with "taking a dig" at darker shades. Let's not hide from the truth. But....and this is important....this does not translate to action of any kind. Before anyone gets any ideas lets get one thing clear...when you go to most Indian temples all the Gods are coal black in color (granite). So it is hard for a nation to be racist based on skin color if its Gods are black. In India, there is much more "languagism" than racism - and this I'm sure is quite alien to someone from the West.

Nope it,s common india to prefer whites over black but our most of God are black and we love black as well as white, about 20 years ago there was a revolution about aesthetic industry who try to tamper our inherent values like fair creams which has generated son diffrences and impact people mindset by showing ads about fair colour but now they all are bannwd, so in India u r welcome whether white or black, but yeah indian girls prefer white girls over black and boys vice versa.
