I am an Indian who stayed in Kenya for around seven years before moving back here. The racism against Africans in India is superficial for the most part (doesn’t make it less hostile/unpleasant if you’re sensitive to being other-ed in any way) But in the Delhi region, there’s a significant African diaspora (mostly Nigerian I think) that has a bad reputation for being involved in some illegal trades (with some Indian collaborators of course). That has an unfortunate impact on how Africans are perceived by people who don’t know that Africans are a kind, well meaning and affectionate people.
well I want to tell Africans that the racism you have felt is prevelent amongst Indians...there is inter-cultural racism, or inter state racim, or inter region racism.. so I as Indian from Uttarakhand has faced racism when I went to study in Delhi. As i have small East Asian eyes i was called 'chinki" but later when I started making fun of myself then Delhi punjabis became my best friends and we are till date great friends.

In India the "racism" is restricted to people sticking to their own. The definition of "own" can vary. Sometimes its from the same state, city, same language, and rarely same caste. In my experience they do face racism a lot here which is sad. I try to be friendly to them but they keep their distance maybe due to their bad past experience here.

India is land of culture and tradition so it's normal And not only India whole Asian food is spicy and different from the westerners . As for food, these institutions should provide for food that suits africans. It’s very hard to adjust food habits to Indian especially because Indian market food is not suitable for regular consumption. Even Indians have it either out of compulsion or for an occasional spice/grease thrill. If some home cooked style Indian food is available, then Africans can try eating that regularly if there is no alternative.
I remember my first interaction with an African on my first day in collage. I was nervous and unsure and some African kid (who looked itimidating to me) comes up and asks me where the college office was. It was my first day so I told him I don't know and he asked me don't you study here and I told him I did. He then asks me "then how come you don't know where the office is" and left with a look of anger. This was a long time back and I am pretty sure he must have thought of me as a "racist".
Most of the indian have particular sterotype about African so people are scared from Africa. Mostly in rural India. Because of TV , bollywood movies, most cartoons so child see tham and believe when I am child I am also believe African eat human but interact with social media I know reality, and mostly bollywood also saw Africans nagative role in movies and rural people believe, and thay discriminate against black. And most in Hinduism red and white colour is postive and pure colour and black is symbol of negative energies. That's why we not use black in fastivals and religion works

yes, plenty of Indians hate each other. There are caste system divisions and the north versus south. Indian men can be cruel to other indian women , especially if they have no education and are in the villages. Muslims tease Hindus and play the victim card. Colorism is big in India. the fair skinned indians think and act as though they are superior to the darker and tanned Indians. some of my relatives, are extremely racist and hate other darker Indians. I can’t stand them and so I stopped talking to those people. I don’t care if they’re related to me or not.

As far as language barrier is concerned, where were you studying? English is a complicated thing in India. A lot of north Indian schools/colleges (and most Indian TH-cam channels) teach in Hinglish (Hindi + English), where they verbally explain in Hinglish (a mixture of English and Hindi words) but write in English on the board. People from Hindi fluent-English weak backgrounds prefer to study that way but it is not my preference at all (and I'm a minority). If you study in proper English language schools in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Kochi, Visakhapatnam etc., education is imparted in English, both verbally and writing wise (I think this would be true for some north Indian cities too). I'm assuming you should also find schools/colleges in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh etc. that do the same. You need to ask around and find out which schools those are. I know for SURE there are schools and colleges like that in the South (because I studied in them), but I'm not exactly sure about how it is in the north. A lot of Indian folk (irrespective of which part of the country they come from: north, south, east or west) tend to feel very inferiority complexed even around other Indian people who speak the language fluently and resort to calling us all sorts of nasty names out of bitterness and insecurity or they justify/rationalise their poor English fluency under the garb of "pride and nationalism" or talk of "colonial mentality" to protect their ego rather than put in effort to improve it (this is actually also the case with people in several other countries too, including countries in Africa ). Some people genuinely want to improve their English but may face mockery and ridicule from their peers for doing so which just perpetuates the cycle of anti-English hatred. Of course, people can speak whatever they want and I have no problem with the language preferences of people who have no problem with those of us who speak English. But there are many people who do have a problem with it. My entire channel deals with that. Some people aspire to learn the language, others remain haters till they're dead. Even in the South, most people speak southern Indian languages like Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam etc. and overall English proficiency is still poor, but overall, I think there's relatively a lot more English here than there and you aren't ostracised AS much for it. In the southern states' cities (Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad mostly, but also Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Kochi) you will be able to find a school which teaches in fluent English (both verbally and in written form), colleges which do the same, apartment complexes with plenty of English speakers and a group of people to be friends with who are the same. The ability to speak fluent English in India is fairly highly correlated with wealth and urban living. Colleges which have students coming in from those demographics teach in English. Others teach in pidgin. You need to ask around, find out what is what before joining schools, colleges or finding homes here. Watch out for schools and colleges which advertise themselves as "English medium" but are actually "Hinglish medium" (or some variant of vernacular+English) where neither the teachers nor students can speak or write fluent English. As far as racism, trust me, us Indians have a lot of "isms" even amongst ourselves (as do Africans I'm sure). It can be a bumpy ride for people of one state to live/work in another state (especially when you don't speak the language of that state). You just need to find understanding people and research the right places in which to live/study. India is a huge country. Ending up in the wrong place can spoil your image of the whole country. For example, I grew up in a higher income group area (with a lot of English speakers) in a South Indian city but when I was younger, I lived with people in a hostel from places like Behrampur, Sambalpur, Paradip, Rajnandgaon, Korba, Khurda, Chapra, Kharagpur etc. which are towns in the states of Odisha, Chattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal etc. Rest assured, after living with that demographic, I will never do it again in this lifetime because they discriminate a lot against someone who is urbanised and speaks fluent English (even coming to the point of becoming physical). Choose your places wisely.
Technically for me, I live in Patiala from Punjabi University, Patiala. The thing is they themselves don't know they're racist. Like the boys are easy to roll with but the girls sometimes are shy and scared but if you don't understand them you might think they're racist. Like when I first got here and even now not everyone wanna sit with me in class. Not that they're racist but there's this cultural shock wherein sitting close to a boy sounds uncomfortable to them. But seriously if you try to interact with them you'll know the difference between racism, shyness and societal pressure. For me, I interact a lot in my department and every student in my department is fond of me. But some especially girls finds it difficult to sit with me except those I have a very close and tight relationship with. Like girls in Patiala finds it hard to even date an African don't know why but am still researching. The thing the crush on you is there but you'll experience something is holding her back and that's what I wanna know. In general, all race thinks the African descent is inferior. Especially in India there's a certain caste called Dalit which is the lowest class and most of them are dark skinned, dude, these people (Dalit) are not respected in anyway whether rich or poor. Infact they're mostly associated with poverty, uncleanness just think everything unfortunate. And the rural areas of India especially Northern India still practices these beliefs. So Africans, don't feel disturbed if you're mistaken for them. Like there's a girl that doesn't even want me to torch her. Screw her and her family. 😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂😂😂 Like in Punjabi University Patiala, there's an experiment I have done so many times in Bhai Kahn Singh Library, Indian girls don't sit close to an African, except there's no seat but If even there's no seat some would prefer to just go elsewhere. Or if she comes first to that sitting premise and you joined later you'll experience she's seriously not comfortable. The only girls that'll sit close to you will be your close friends who feel comfortable with you. Boys honestly don't care whom they sit with. So technically now i find my usual corner. 😂😂😂

Technically for me, I live in Patiala from Punjabi University, Patiala. The thing is they themselves don't know they're racist. Like the boys are easy to roll with but the girls sometimes are shy and scared but if you don't understand them you might think they're racist. Like when I first got here and even now not everyone wanna sit with me in class. Not that they're racist but there's this cultural shock wherein sitting close to a boy sounds uncomfortable to them. But seriously if you try to interact with them you'll know the difference between racism, shyness and societal pressure. For me, I interact a lot in my department and every student in my department is fond of me. But some especially girls finds it difficult to sit with me except those I have a very close and tight relationship with. Like girls in Patiala finds it hard to even date an African don't know why but am still researching. The thing the crush on you is there but you'll experience something is holding her back and that's what I wanna know. In general, all race thinks the African descent is inferior. Especially in India there's a certain caste called Dalit which is the lowest class and most of them are dark skinned, dude, these people (Dalit) are not respected in anyway whether rich or poor. Infact they're mostly associated with poverty, uncleanness just think everything unfortunate.
And the rural areas of India especially Northern India still practices these beliefs. So Africans, don't feel disturbed if you're mistaken for them. Like there's a girl that doesn't even want me to torch her. Screw her and her family. 😂😂😂😂

Like in Punjabi University Patiala, there's an experiment I have done so many times in Bhai Kahn Singh Library, Indian girls don't sit close to an African, except there's no seat but If even there's no seat some would prefer to just go elsewhere. Or if she comes first to that sitting premise and you joined later you'll experience she's seriously not comfortable. The only girls that'll sit close to you will be your close friends who feel comfortable with you. Boys honestly don't care whom they sit with. So technically now i find my usual corner. 😂😂😂
Why you guys are so obsessed about dating other nationality girl if they don't want you and want nothing to do with you just study here and go to your respective country this is not America here your black card would not work don't try to play it here and if someone is not bothering you or not disturbing than you should just focus on yourself stop trying to date girls here

I understand why these people are not happy with food because they are having it in hostels. If im right that i would like to say to my African friends that please dont generalize the Indian food on basis of hostel food. Please try to make friends and try home food that would be amazing. Even we dont like hostel food. Correct me if im wrong. 😊

As an Indian living abroad.. I understand. Sucks that they face racism. English is more common in South India I feel, racism would be less common too. South has better Universities and education as well, more jobs. But they won’t get the same nightlife..
