I'm an artist who is also conversant in faux paint finishes. Your mistake was to stop your brushstroke at the edge of the table. You should continue with one long sweeping stroke that starts before the edge and continues beyond the edge of the surface. Then you won't get those raggedy-looking edges to the finish. Best regards. I love to see people taking on artistic projects of all kinds.
After all that work, I would have started over on the top. Those imperfections would be the only thing I could see. I did something almost exactly when refinishing a buffet table handed we down from grand-mil it took 2 extra days to complete but much better than leaving the errors!
I agree totally!!! Thicker foam and new material for the chairs would have been nice, but gotta give this young lady KUDOS!!!… for all the commitment she put into this project!!!
@@gailwilliams5278 Yes, next time she goes to Joannes Fabric she can see if anything, as my mother would say, strikes her eye. They have some nice indoor/outdoor fabric that is easier to keep clean
You did a beautiful job. Since you had the chair cushions off, I think they would have looked even nicer with a pretty light colored cloth fabric. Like the inspiration.
Gorgeous work and how great you restored something old instead of throwing it away. Here's a little trick I learned from my dad, you can fix screw holes that are stripped or just too big with some toothpicks and wood glue. It's a cheap and easy method that works great :)
It’s so nice to see what people do when they refinish something they already have. Regardless of personal style, I think we can all agree it looks amazing!
Good job! You saved your family a chunk of money, kept your old table from going into the trash and learned some new skills. That's a win all the way around.
She really didn't save her family money. She spent money. Still she spent very little and got her family a great value using elbow grease to make the difference.
This video was so fun to watch. None of the usual hoity-toity overkill perfection for top dollar steps. No offense to the mega furniture flippers, those are great too, but they seem to be everywhere. And this was done exactly the way most amateurs would do it. Cute, clever and real!
I used to love watching a woman with a business of furniture flipping. She would get pieces in trash if they were mostly intact physically. You are also very creative and talented. Go luck. It will be epic
You did a great job refinishing that dining set. Also im so glad Toni/Tony did not delete the part where you reacted to the leaves falling in your head.
Love what you did with Mr. Caterpillar. That was absolutely charming. I could have watched more of that conversation. Don't be hard about yourself not fixing those cracks earlier. Sometimes the cracks are not fully revealed until the first top coat goes on. A primer coat can look so blotchy that the wood flaws are less evident.
An ordinary person doing not so ordinary things making a few mistakes but learning along the way and sharing the experience. I LOVE IT!. I'm getting ready to lay a floor and that was the first vid I saw of yours. You had me dying when that secada bug kept flying at you and then you did the silence of the lambs thing.😂 Anyway, you have a new subscriber now thank you!
Though my personal preference is for less ornate furniture, I appreciate your commitment to the project, especially the way you filled in the cracks on the legs and the gouge on the table's edge. And I love the finish on the table top. Nice work. 👌
Yeah, new furniture prices are insane. I bought my table and chairs from a thrift store several years ago, six pieces for under $100 then gave it a makeover. I painted the whole set pale blue with yellow accents and recovered the seat cushions with new vinyl. Looked great, matched my decor, and the best part it was one of a kind. When I moved, I sold it to a young couple who were furnishing their first apartment.
Thank you Toni for not cutting out the scream 😋I have an idea for the next project: DIY bookshelf - I think your books are getting too heavy 🤭or is there already a video about that? *looks for the video*
You did a great job. The faux wood look is spot on. The only thing I’d would’ve done differently is take the finials off the top of the chairs to give them a more modern look.
Idk how I found you but I am so glad I did. I've been binge watching and I absolutely love this channel. You deserve way more subscribers! Everyone smash that like button and subscribe. You're killing it girl!
I hate starting projects because things often go wrong, and then I feel hopeless. But this woman impressed me with her determination and hard work. Her dining table makeover is beautiful!
“To each his own”-but painting such an exquisite dining room set WHITE is gut wrenching. Too bad the set didn’t go to someone who would restore its’ intended majestic appearance. I should have never “clicked”…
Very impressed with your work, patience & knowledge. I'm going to refinish my coffee table. My husband wants me to use a sander but I've never used one. I'll do my best & I'll have to sand the legs with a cloth. You've inspired me to get it started. Thank you, God Bless✝️🙏🏼
It is beautiful and I love the restraint you used with the distressing. Some manufactures let you choose your distressing preferences and believe it or not this set would be under " heavily distressed." Sadly most DIY TH-camrs have an all or nothing attitude on distressing. Either they go way too far and make a mess or they add none at all. Most pieces with notable exceptions need some degree of distressing or the look is too fresh. Most of the best furniture pieces out of North Carolina (Henredon, Drexel, Hickory Chair, etc) are so lightly distressed most people don't even see it. My daughter was studying architecture/design, said she didn't like distressing adding, "None of your furniture is distressed." I assured her they were. She was amazed when I pointed out the marks, dents and very light specks. You did a great job.
You are very gifted everything you did with being trial and error with solutions is absolutely beautiful worth 100 times more than any big furniture company could ever make
Kiddo, you did a very nice job on your "new" table. The wood grain looks natural, I think. Thank for the instruction just in case I ever want to tackle a table like this. Lol.*
Wow - very nice! I did the same with my existing breakfast dining set. However, I didn't do it, my handyman did it, and it cost a pretty penny to have him do it! So kudos to you, ma'am!
Nice job! Better than anything that you could buy. And yes, like a lot of comments: I'd recover the seats in a grey/white/black pattern fabric. Add a layer of foam for more padding.
Excellent job as always. You did a great job with the faux wood look on the tabletop. Just a little tip, extend the strokes passed the end of the table.
Fantastic transformation! There are real wool vintage dining sets out there on marketplace for little money, I regret buying mine from Ashley Furniture store. It looked like wood, but after 5 years I can tell it's not. My next one will be a flip.
Fantastic job. I agree with a light color cushion. But could come when you decide to make a change. You have to do want you like. I changed my seat cushions to match a curtain change. It’s fun . Enjoy 😊

Aunties and wood killer. Ugly paint.
Looks great, I’d cover the chair cushions and put thicker foam pads as well.
I'm surprised she didn't take the opportunity to recover the chair pads - table came out great but the chair pads look cheap
I was thinking the same thing.
I agree totally!!! Thicker foam and new material for the chairs would have been nice, but gotta give this young lady KUDOS!!!… for all the commitment she put into this project!!!

Agreed
Great idea that could be another project at a other time.
Having children and light colored fabric doesn’t fair too well unless it’s abed to be wiped off.

The quality of the old table was worth the refinish. All the new stuff is made in China and uses particle board. Good for you!
Or the resin/foam.
Your dining set turned out beautifully. I’m glad you shared the oopses and how you fixed them, great job!!!
Thanks so much! 😊
its beautiful, but i do think you might want to cover the seat cushions
That came out nicely.
Hahaha also glad you didn’t cut the leaf scream out. 😂
You having a respectful conversation with the caterpillar 🐛 was a treat 😁🥰

Looks great…need to cover the cushions with something jazzy!
😜classy.😁
My mom has a dining set from the 1970s. One summer, we redid the seat covers and she still has the set. For a fifty year old set, it’s amazing!
