    The tape for small cabochons is a great idea. I've been struggling to wrap a small, flatish stone and this will help immensely.

    I seriously Love all of your videos! I have Just been binge watching your channel for the past 3 hours haha! Any chance you have an updated polishing video on the way? Getting bad scratches out of work or even a quick barrel polish tutorial would be amazing!! I always struggle with this so any advise would be super useful! Can't wait to watch your next video

    Thanks a lot for all those advice, my prefered is the double sided tape to polish the small butterfly.😃

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually a regular one sided tape! It's better than double sided, because it won't stick to your fingers and is easier to remove :) Thanks so much for watching! :)

    Hiya Lady Stardust... A great collection of great ideas. I use the cookson gold plastic handle for the needle files but the rest of the tricks/tips... I hope I have enough 'Aligator' tape... Love the tape to hold small bits for polishing. How are you getting on with engraving? An update video maybe?
    A tip??? Take your plyers & open them, the corner edges on the inside may be sharp so take a seperate file, (One not used for silver/gold) & round off the edges, can be fun...
    Stay safe dear lady...Steve xx...

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha, don't laugh! :)) I spotted that typo, but couldn't be bothered to go and change it, and export and render the video again and do all that stuff 😂 So it's 'aligator'! :)
      With engraving, I'm not really getting anywhere...yet! BUT, I've saved up and ordered the simple ball vice on Amazon, it should be here in a week or so. I'll also get that foldable plastic thingy and will finally get on with the engraving! So excited! I also got a little set of GRS manual gravers. But to use them, I absolutely need a ball vice, that's why I haven't tried them yet.
      I really like the tip for rounding the edges of the pliers! I'll that to ones that always cause me problems becasue of that sharp edge. Thanks! xx

      @@TheArtOfMetalsmithing You're welcome dear lady. I love that I'm back on YT again, I started playing mahjong solitare on my phone, I'm hooked. It's just matching pairs but some are chinese pictorgrams against the clock. I'm glad you are getting on with setting up to engrave, I see a video coming(?)
      Stay safe...Steve xx...

    Thank you for more amazing tips! When you are creating the bail, what kind of hammer are you using? It looks like it is a good one that leaves no marks

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! This is a Fretz hammer with nylon inserts! It's great and doesn't leave any marks on the metal :)

    • @knittedpainting
      @knittedpainting 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheArtOfMetalsmithing oh thanks! At the minute I only have a chasing hammer and a rawhide mallet, which doesn't leave marks but it doesn't always seem to make enough impact to bend the metal

  • @MrsLeguyader

    Instead of the finger wrap, I will wrap my pliers a couple of times with painters tape to protect my metal.

    use shrink wrap plastic from covering electrical wires and put over pliers etc and heat until they gather round the pincer parts seperately then you have pliers that no longer nick on metal
