    H Pylori is another nasty bug that can wreak havoc on your iron levels because it survives on your iron. In my own personal case that was my problem and despite me having a normal to high hemoglobin and RBC count, my ferritin was in the tank at 13 and I was feeling horrible for years. Every single doc told me not to worry about it since my hemoglobin and iron saturation was actually on the high side. I started supplementing with the right form of iron and lo and behold I am already starting to feel a change and it's only been about 3 weeks. You are one of few docs that say to not pay attention to the serum iron and saturation if you have low ferritin that is what you need to focus on. Great video!

      @@trofrano Thanks for the video. I am currently taking Vitron C which contains 65mg of carbonyl iron. It does well for my stomach and I am not as dizzy for sure. However, I still have tremendous fatigue on some days. It's been about 4 weeks since my last ferritin test when it was 13. Can you name the brand you recommend or the name brand of the iron that your patient was taking? I would love to try that. I am also taking Tributyrin which helps with increasing gut mucosa. Also doing glutamine, mastic gum, flaxseed oil, pine nut oil, and a product called Pyloricil. Taking all those for the H Pylori. Again, thanks for your input.

    My iron was 21, Ferritin was 6, Hemoglobin was 7.5. I stsrted to eat iron rich foods and took freeze dried liver capsules, Ferrofood (from Standard Process) and Three Arrows Iron repair Simply Heme. All of these are Heme. In one month I got my iron to 109 - Ferritin to 41 and my Hemoglobin to 11.0, Who knows if that will stay. Also, are these healthy for me to take? Are you opposed to "heme" vs "non-heme"? I havenn't looked into your product yet Iron Glycinate but I will.

    • @trofrano

      If someone is taking an iron supplement or had high iron consumption prior to the blood test, the iron or saturation can be high. It can take weeks or months for a low ferritin to increase to optimal levels.

    Hi, I had an open myomectomy 4 months ago to remove some very large fibroids. Since the surgery I have been passing out, not unconscious but falling down hitting the floor at least 5-6 times a day. My hands and feet very cold at times. My levels were tested and my hemoglobin was 11 and ferritin was 7. The doctors said that the falling down episodes and cold hands and feet are not caused by the low blood. They said I am not anemic enough to cause that and so they are passing me around from cardiologist to neurologists. They just suggest that I continue to take my iron to bring my blood up. I’ve been taking the iron and my hemoglobin is now at a 12 and the ferritin is 8. I’m not falling down as much but I am getting this rush to my head which happens frequently. My hands and feet are still extreme;y cold. Once again I asked about the low ferritin and iron levels and I was told that that would not cause these symptoms. I’m pretty much lost on what to do. Also I didn’t have any of these issues prior to the surgery.

    I am on TRT and need to donate blood to keep hematocrit down. The trouble is my ferritin was 11 at my last test. I have no discernible symptoms that I can tell. My GP doc said don’t worry about it because Testosterone will lower Ferrtin and my iron is normal judging from Hemoglobin. My concern is that if I take iron supplements my hematocrit goes too high. (I have Hashimotos and take T3 thyroid meds by the way).

    • @trofrano
      @trofrano  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, the idea is to donate enough blood but not so much that your ferritin goes too low. Looking at other lab results can help determine your iron status and what to do about it.

    Hi Doc,
    My ferritin level is 15 but iron levels normal. I have cold hands and feet, tired, absent minded, low concentration and brain fog, mental health problems.
    I don’t think I have celiac as I don’t have a large intestine due to crohns and colitis causing me to have to have an Ileostomy.
    Celiac runs in the family I have cousins with it, the same side that I got colitis from however I don’t experience discomfort from gluten as such, no GI issues as such. I’ve tried countless diets but after blood work has come back my ferritin is low.
    My question is I have Floradix Iron liquid to get my levels up it has Ferrous Gluconate, should I take this as liquid is easier for me to absorb, and should I do a celiac test? I had a blood test done to check it but I went a week gluten free before I did weirdly enough apart from the last day I had a huge amount of gluten and when the results came back it was negative.
