Here are a bunch of Ghibli adjacent movies you might like : Mary and the Witch's Flower - Yonebayashi Hiromasa Tokyo Godfathers - Kon Satoshi Sword of the Stranger - Ando Masashi Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms - Okada Mari Legend of the Millennium Dragon - Kawasaki Hirotsugu The Deer King - Ando Masashi A Letter to Momo - Okiura Hiroyuki Summer Wars - Hosoda Mamoru Patema Inverted - Yoshiura Yasuhiro Miss Hokusai - Hara Keiichi
Just added these to my watch list. thank you! I've heard great things about Summer Wars. The only Satoshi Kon film I saw was Perfect Blue and it gave me chills and I couldn't sleep XD
Goated for mentioning Dandadan and Frieren, truly amazing pieces. Have you seen OP Fan Letter yet? My favourite non-Ghibli films are by far Your name and A Silent Voice. I remember really enjoying Summer Wars and Tekkonkinkreet years ago but it doesn't hit emotionally like the other two. Out of Shinkai's works, Your Name is absolute Peak. I thought I'd like Suzume more and I did but it just didn't hit like Your Name personally (still absolutely stunning). Did you check out Weathering With You? My favourite shows off the top of my head from recent times are Anohana, Summer Time Rendering and Ranking of Kings to name a few
Yes, your name is definitely Peak. I don't know what it is. The soundtrack. Radwimps really nailed it. I've heard a lot of great things about Summer Wars and Ranking of Kings! I haven't heard of the others, but I just added them to my watchlist! Thanks!
@@arisaakamine Yeah the soundtrack really harmonized with the emotions shown on screen😊 Definitely check out Ranking of Kings then, I think you'll like it.
@@arisaakamine Then you should check out The Colors Within when it'll be out outside of japan in theatres, maybe next year. She directed K-on which is an anime tv show, very wholesome and chill. Heike's story more recently. And my favourite Liz and the Blue bird, but you'd need to see 2 seasons of Sound Euphonium to completly enjoy it, that show is also a masterpiece so it's a win/win lol
If you're a Makoto Shinkai fan, did you have the chance to watch Kanojo to kanojo no neko? It's 5 min long, super low budget, minimalistic, a lot of still shots, Shinkai's the VA for the cat and he basically narrates all the way through. Even though, you could tell even then, that Shinkai's a master of setting up a mood and knows how to get the viewer emotional. If you didn't and you have 5 minutes to spare, it's on TH-cam.
1:38 off topic, but girl yesss, I was literally on my way to the fridge to get a slice of cheese when I saw that 💛👏🏼🌝 but to stay on topic a little, I watched pretty much all of the movies you recommend and I agree, they are sweet and heartfelt and good to recommend! Garden of words has a very special place in my heart and the outro song always makes me want to cry.. 🫶🏼 one movie I was sure would be in this list is "the girl who leapt through time"! It's the first non ghibli movie I ever watched and I remember I had a complete cry breakdown in the middle back then haha but I really like it and it fits all of the other movies from this list very well! And same goes for "5 centimeters per second"..! 😊
Girrrrrrrl, what cheese tho? :3 Mine was havarti. I wish I had watched garden of words with an open mind and not be all weird and judgy about it because I feel like I missed out on the beauty of the story. I might have to rewatch it. I LOVED THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME! I watched it forever ago and I feel like no one knows much about it. I find myself recommending anime MOVIES to people more than anime when they ask. Oh I haven’t watched 5 centimeters per second, adding it to my list. :) Thanks!
Me and the boys rewatched Your Name a couple days ago and we fell in love with it again. Sooooooo good 😭😭 I'm a Japanese raised and living overseas so I can relate to your experience though. I understand 80% but the English subs really helps fill the holes.
If it's something you'd like, can you please tell us what you thought of the adaptation of Look Back? Loved this video, it was cool to hear about all these recommendations

I haven't seen the OP fan letter, I am actually just now getting into OP.

@@arisaakamine Oh sorry yeah I forgot you're not caught up in One Piece. It's absolutely beautiful and heartfelt if you ever get the chance!
Silent voice's director, Naoko Yamada, is maybe one of the greatest anime director right now, you should try her other projects
Oh! Could you recommend some other ones? I had no idea.

Right?! Even now I'm reading OP in Japanese, and waow. I have a ways to go, but I feel like its good for my Japanese development.
@@arisaakamine Yeah I did the same with OP! Except I'd read the whole thing in English first so that really helped when I reread it in Japanese

I would love to! Keep an eye out for a video soon.
I watched it , a whisker away
one piece journey update when
Editing it here in a few minutes. :3 I had to wait until my package arrived, and it is ridiculous but I am so happy about it.
Your name is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We're not seeing you on IG as usual
I'm coming back.
