1. In my video titled "I deleted all my social media and made a website," I mentioned that I want to create a Discord server. Upon further reflection, I've decided not to follow through with this. My primary focus right now is not TH-cam, & I believe that managing a Discord server would require a significant amount of time that I'm unable to commit to at this time.
2. I’ll still try my best to respond to Pinterest messages & answer any questions you have!
3. For the people who used to watch my live streams: I have decided to discontinue my twice-weekly live streams. I might still live stream occasionally, just not to the frequency I used to. But I had so much fun talking to you all on my live streams during the 2-3 months I did them & will remember you regular watchers forever :( ...
4. I deleted many of my videos as I have been thinking more about how much of my life I want to be accessible by the public. I'm new to this TH-cam thing so please bear with me as I figure out exactly what my goals are for this channel & how I want to go about accomplishing them through my content.
5. I’m excited to listen to music again :D. Please leave music recommendations in the comments.
6. Thank you for reading this, I appreciate it. Take care of yourself today!

As a musician, even when I’m not listening to music, something is playing in my head in the background
i agree, the only time im not listening to music or thinking of music or playing music, is when i sleep, and i purposefully frequently get terrible amounts of sleep to listen to music 😭

That's a good indicator for undiagnosed ADHD. It's common among musicians.

I listen to music at least 5 hours per day, I read about music related stuff, I watch music related content. I spend hours browsing through discogs to find new music.... I really enjoyed this video but it made me realize that I am doomed. I don't think I could ever do a detox
im the same. i dont think i could do a three months detox but to be honest i noticed that when i started talking walks in silence and focusing a little bit on my breath, in a few weeks it helped me be more mindful about it, and concentrate better. i did some research and it's true that exercise helps with adhd or even without adhd it helps with memory, concentration, mindfulness.. maybe that could help you. but at the same time i dont think music 'addiction' is the worst thing to have unless you feel it's affecting some part of your life and you think it's a problem . everybody has different priorities, values, etc
Do you have any album recommendations? Im in the same boat haha, music is an essential part of my life, taking a break from it would be interesting…
No! I've been more addicted and i managed to quit it for good! Cause it ruined my ear n ma life it's weird to say it but music is actually..

Go slowly don't immediately try to go on with out it time your listening and slowly lessen it till you feel you can go on for a while without any
At 20, I underwent a 10-day silent meditation retreat, I only listened to natural sounds and fellow attendees' murmurs. When it finished and I took a bus, the first song on the radio moved me to tears. I think overstimulation leads to desensitization. Music is really beautiful, but maybe we have to give it space to be fully appreciated. Your experiment for three months is super interesting.
Exactly me except that I'm 16
I've been realizing this lately too that for true enjoyment of music you need to give breaks. Listening too much of it for continued amounts of time makes it all a huge weird mesh of sounds and nothing appeals to you anymore.
@@chimsiho4618imagine how I feel as a music producer, engineer and artists 😂 I don’t have a choice, gotta get paid.

That we do too much
Like watching movie and eating food , social media, memes, trending clothes.....
Specially Food, fasting straight 18 or more hour with no food and water gives good effect on body.
After fasting your all senses will reboot and feel fresh
this is why we get sick often listening to the same songs but once we give them a break they sound good again
So, if you live a life without entertainment such as music, social networking, games, etc., people will tell you it's weird. And it's boring. Now, you might ask, 'What's a life?' For me, I wake up early, work out, study, meditate, all without entertainment, and it's a life that brings me happiness. I didn’t listen to music for 3 days and I’ve noticed such a huge difference, usually when I listen to music I tend to daydream and not doing that has made me feel so much better
me too! what has helped me with the daydreaming is just using spotify non premium, so its just on a constant shuffle. but reducing my music intake has also helped alot, so i take frequent breaks!
wait really? im the complete opposite! i cant daydream when the music is on… how interesting!
I have this daydreaming problem too but man I just bought spotify premium yesterday (for next 3 months) I cannot be doing this now 🫠🫠
I tend to focus
I daydream regardless x)
I did a similar experience, and what I personally found was that I should only listen to music when it was purely for music. Because when I take a walk and listen to music, I tend to take the world around me for granted. I stopped caring about the sounds of the birds, the rain, etc. It's so meditating to truly focus on nature when you really try. Music is great, and meant to be enjoyed but like anything else in life through balance.
Great & important video!
This is so true, I enjoy sitting on the bus without music now because I like focusing on one thing at once- too much stuff literally makes me feel unsettled! I don't think people are really meant to multitask like this, it's better to just enjoy one thing at a time :)
I have the opposite experience. I usually just start thinking about various life stuff instead of just experiencing being outside if I walk without music 😅
Personally, I like both experiences, but the right music can make things more beautiful as well, music is amazing, but it's true that it shouldn't prevent you from enjoying things without it too!
It's a little different for me, when I listen to music while walking on the street I notice how pretty it is when things are clear in my view. I guess this is partly because I have really bad eyesight and for the longest time didn't wear glasses/contacts.
There aren't any nature sounds to enjoy though, in my city you can mostly hear only cars and stuff.

Music that are not listened to is noise. When we chat, we, of course, listen to what each other is saying. It just feels better when not having to talk over noise. Also, it is quite disrespectful to the music itself to have it on, and nobody listens.

if I listen to music too much, I get tired of it; I don't want to hear it anymore. This is a blessing but it tells me when to stop so that it doesn't become an addiction. You tackled a problem that I actually think is underlooked in our society 🙌🏼 music is so normalized that many people don't stop to consider its side effects
As a musician I find myself unreliant on music in nearly all situations. I kind of only listen to music in the car, because it makes my mom happy. When you write music, you find music on Earth alone. I love hearing the click of doors in the laundromat and the silent buzz at night. It can be inspiring for my pieces. I create jazz on cello & piano, so the unpredictable style of everyday noise really helps with that.

@@hyunvbz salam alykum, I would recommend using the "not interested button" whenever you see a music recommendation in your feed, that way you receive less and less music recommendation until you no longer receive them. secondly I would like as much quran recitations and lectures as I can so I can get them more often while you spend some time scrolling, that way your mind isnt entirely consumed by other things and you'll have this moment of peace when listening to a recitation. Honestly right now I am trying to understand the quran and making side notes on a note pad to help me understand more of it and to appreciate it a lot more, because honestly nobody is perfect and that goes to me as well, but I honestly feel once you start getting attached to the quran you won't be interested in listening to music anymore. I don't know if you have experienced this or not, but If you listen to music for a long period of time, your mind starts getting clouded and you start feeling sick in a sort of sense, but once you listen to the quran all that goes away. because even now, as you have seen with this video, even non muslims feel better without it, allah has made it haram to protect you. This video made me realize I don't have a music addiction. I'm easily bored by even things that I love, the same applies to music, so I often just take breaks. When I'm doing some of my hobbies I forget about the music, and I don't even notice when my phone dies and the music stops. I generally use music to soothe me because I'm autistic, and get easily overwhelmed be social interactions (my soundproof headphones are a godsend), and I have misophonia (certain sounds cause me mental distress no matter what). I honestly wish everything was quieter around me, no music needed.
me too, today i was doing a hairstyle with music on and then i was like "music is not fun anymore, i will stop because its actually stressing me out"
sometimes i need and over stimulus and sometimes everything its too much
Yeah, I am also neurodivergent (ADHD), and music can either be good, but it can also be far too distracting. If I'm talking to someone, music can interrupt my train of thought and break the conversation entirely. If I'm working on something and can't hyperfixate on it, then music can act as a small steady source of dopamine to help get me through it.

Im autistic and music helps me with overwhelming situations too, but I think I am actually addicted to music since it’s a special interest of mine, so going without it for even just like a couple hours sucks for me. I don’t always need music or anything but i need to play it at least a bit throughout my day.
autism isnt real quit
As a musician, I think music is a sacred thing in a way.
In mid-age times, music was such a rare source. You'd either have to know how to play an instrument, or listen to it passing through streets. And since it was so beautiful and rare, the feeling or listening gleeful. Just like those glimpses of happiness you described.
So, a time ago I naturally stopped listening to music, because I was using it to blur my boredom, and therefore, choking my creativity. And the most interesting thing is that playing my music felt way deeper than it used to. Music had gained that sacred feeling again, and it felt easier to just compose, because I neither havd others artist to compare myself with, nor I was stunned by the overconsumption of it.
I felt...more alive, and less stressed, when music was my sacred thing, and not a constant whirlwind.
I hope it helped!
Have a great day!
I keep the best music in a list called "listen rarely", too precious to get used to!

This lessons apply not just for music. I think people today (including me) are using entertainment as a form to escape reality. We shouldn't stop doing the things we like, but start realizing if we are doing it genuinely or if we are using that form of entertainment just to not feel certain emotions in our lifes.

@Y0za Music, is definitely haram. I think so you meant songs.
The ban on music is due to what it causes us to do. Music that doesn’t involve filthy acts or negative emotions are permissible on festival days and celebrations (like weddings), but recently many scholars have become all or nothing due to how out of control modern music has become. Yeah, that's why I'm sort of interested about what people who felt stress-relieved or emotionally comforted by music in a way that it had let them pass though tough times as it probably resonated with their soul and feelings would feel if they just stopped listening to that very thing. I mean, is it an addiction in the first place if music had gotten a person through tough times, or they call it their comfort or friend?
I hate to tell you guys this, but yes both of those examples are very much addiction. If it is the *only* thing that can get you through challenging times it is an addictive behavior. While an extreme example, if someone is only able to get through their life by drinking alcohol. They are addicted to alcohol. It is important to have multiple ways to be able to deal with life and its stressors
@@dummythin5378 this is not a good take.
That is not what an addiction is.
Relying on family to get through bad times is obviously not an addiction.
Something used for mourning and grieving can become addictive but it itself isn't a sign of it.
There is a certain twinge or rhythm or flavor to how one attaches to something addictivly.
Not all instances of tears is sadness.
Not all deep and close relationships with music/anything are addictive.

Such an interesting video! I’ve been an avid music listener ever since a young child and I’ve been creating music for about 4 years now. I’ve always felt a connection to music and I’ve never really thought about myself having a music addiction even though I listen to a lot of music. There are times where I get tired of listening/creating music so I take breaks. What I find when I come back from those breaks is that I’m more engaged in what I’m listening to and I have creative ideas flowing. I also like to pay attention to sounds around me because sometimes you can find little melodies or rhythms of things you never thought you’d hear if your ears aren’t attuned. Anyway, thumbs up on this video and thanks for sharing your thoughts. 👍🏼
I'm in love with your videos. The way you explain things is so wholesome and clear.
OHMYGOD I NEEDED THIS VIDEO SO BADLY, nowadays the internet is filled with social media addiction, content addiction and all. But no one seems to notice that how much the addiction of music and overstimulation can fuck up ones life.
thanks a lot for doing such an insightful and organized video. I have been struggling with this addiction for past 7 years and my behaviour patterns are so controlled by the devices, social media, internet, endless music streams; I never noticed how badly i lost myself.
I thank you, will try to follow what you said.
I stopped listening to music in the car for awhile because I noticed it took me out of my own organic thoughts. I noticed I listened way less when I really got into meditation as well. I think presence is a resounding reason. Phones/internet can really take us out of what’s around us
ALSO, words are power and when you subject yourself to someone’s lyrics, you’re allowing them to speak to your soul (happy music, sad music, inspiring, etc.)
That's crazzzy "allowing them to speak to your soul"
This is absolute fax
the second part is very true (coming from someone whose religion prohibits listening to music)
the last part is so true! i just noticed how much song lyrics i didn't really care about really were making a thing in my head. then i made whole new playlists focusing specially on the lyrics and i can tell, it's already making me feel better. we're so exposed to sadness, anger, crisis, doubts, envy through words people put in songs. it's like saying to ourselves we are living that, even more because music itself, so powerful how it is, makes us immerse in its proposal

I've recently fallen into a weird place with music where I only listen to breakcore/experimental music which usually doesnt have lyrics to relate to, but they instill a weird disassociative feeling onto the listener. It's become a new kind of background noise to my life which violently blocks out my emotions. This video has been a pleasant reminder to myself that I should probably take a break from it all and actually process my emotions since I didn't want to bottle then up until I explode again. Thank you for this video
This channel is... well thought out!
Very cool Lauren, I enjoyed this a lot THANK YOU FOR YOUR SCIENCE
love the effort you put into the video. you explained and presented everything so nicely!
I’ve had the same problem and I was surprised about how little videos about this had been on TH-cam. I had the problem of being so fed up with songs, but still needing it in the background. So I stopped listening to music just to make my bed or just to get dressed… I also stopped bringing my headphones to school and that’s what helped me the most. Instead of being absent, I was pretty mindfull about life and had many discussions in my head on my way home. Now listening to music is mostly a thing that gets me energized or in the mood for something that I am doing like writing. Even drawing became fun without it, as I realized how pencil makes such calming sounds.
Also as the spring came… I realized that singing birds create better music than Spotify :)
And silence became something that I love.
Such a beautiful journey, isn't it? I had a similar one and I feel so much happier!
@@meiulleyl So happy to hear that! ♡♡︎
Why were you surprised? It’s an extremely uncommon issue.
@@nezahuatez Well I had my right to be. There are many internet/phone detox videos and I thought music would be a discussed issue too.
@@nezahuatez why are u so pissed off at everyone calm down
LMAO THE BIRD NOISES HAD ME DYING OMG also this video is super cool and i love how you wrote it all down and made your graphs and quoted different sources :)))
I gasped when she did that
I find it incredible how you explain things in a simple and scientific way. Your cute drawings and illustrations are eye catching. Thanks for this experiment.
I love this video.
Nothing overly fancy. Nothing too processed. Just amazing information dissemination.
Love it!
this is incredible!!! so thorough and detailed and very well made!! genuinely amazing job :)
this was really interesting!! thank you so much for sharing your experiment/research...music addiction is definitely an overlooked addiction
thank you for closed captions !!
It is so unique that your video follows the structure a Research report. Respect ✊🏻❤️ Your notes and drawings look really neat and pretty as well ☺️
I love the unique way you make your videos, gives a calm and cozy vibe. Thank you for this great video!
Excellent video, definitely been addicted to music for a while without realizing it, thank you for sharing this ♥
Love this video, nice structured, straightforward and insightful! Love your notes and your you face 😆😂 hope to see more videos like this ❤
I looove, love the format of your video - meaning the use of notepad with beautiful notes. That's so amazing. I'm also in awe of your background - looks soooo cozy
i love the part of emotional confusion. thanks for making this video! subscribed and looking forward to more :)
Great video! Love how detailed you were and effort was put into it
this is an amazing experiment, thank you so much for sharing all your findings
I'm astonished at how beautifully insightful this is.
life is already horrible enough i wouldn't want to live without these small pleasures, instead be more mindful of what you listen
You def need a break if you don't wanna live without it. Figure things out, you can't avoid em forever....
@@dimitris_kour1505i dont wanna live without art or good food. chat should i give up my main hobby? chat should i starve myself for a month?
@@dimitris_kour1505 if i dont wanna live without something it just means that im comfortable more with it than without. i dont wanna live without showering, sleeping at least 6 hours, seeing my friends bc thats what makes me happy and keeps stable. @@dimitris_kour1505 if you cant handle a thought about living without something or someone this is surely another and more serious thing

Thank you so much for this! As a person that spends every single minute of the day when I'm not in class, this really struck a chord with me. I too have found that simply having my headphones off and enjoying natural sounds prove more rewarding to me than drowning out my emotions in sound--I'm really thankful to have come across this video to show me that!
I'm definitely going to stick around in case you try something else that's novel, yet fairly normalized otherwise. I was really curious about the repercussions of having a music addiction and this video definitely demonstrated just that!
Great video, just subbed to you! I was going to leave a long comment about my own experience quitting music but it ended up being 2 full pages on word document so uh... I decided to transfer it to my journal instead lol. Let's just say I'm very passionate about this topic and I love the fact that you not only brought it up but also discussed it in length while keeping the vibe soft and peaceful.
Thank you for making a video like this!
It's nice to see a real person making a video just talking into a microphone and saying what they think, not reading off of an awkwardly written script.
I wish other people made this style of video.
Commenting for engagement, such an interesting topic to explore and your energy is so sweet 🥹
such a comforting and educational video , thank you for this
This is all so cute. I love it. I'll definitely apply this into my life. Thank you so much for sharing. It's really thoughtful of to do so. Thx
May be a bit off topic from your video, but I really love your energy. The positivity and smile is contagious of yours.
such a well structured video, love it
this is your second video i watched, uj ust came up on my feed in i just wanted to pop in and say that i REALLY love the way u make ur videos. just the way u hold up ur notebook to the camera makes it feel really intimate like ur telling ME about something that ur passionate about. its not attention grabbing in the mr beast/ tiktok way but bc i suddenly really care about what u talk
Only 7 mins into the vid but you just said you felt a vry specific feeling after reflecting on the early introduction of music in your life at age 8 and the contrast of ambience/outdoor sounds and then music. I started crying lol. something about the way you articulate feels very universal and full of heart. cannot wait to finish this video!!
Interesting, I started crying then too for the same reason.
Omg you've no idea how happy I was to see this video to pop up in my recommend!
I felt like I have had similar issues to yours when you gave your reasons as to why you stopped listening to music... I also feel this emotional jumble inside my head when I listen to music, the annoying compulsion to listen to some music right away because I felt bored. I can't handle boredom as I used to, and in the long term I feel like this has affected my self motivation and discipline levels. I've also got a case where when I am listening to music, esp. the ones with lyrics, I cannot do anything else but space out or daydream about these now artificial emotions and overthink absurd scenarios happening to me in my life, according to the mood of the song.
So it was really nice to see this video because music addiction is what I've been struggling with since a long time. I hope I can try this experiment as well and share what I felt and if I was able to do so, for the time period of a month (as for now). Subbed to your channel as well
Same, once I quit I got really depressed bc I realized how awful my life was. The little “scenarios” I created to music were the only positive emotions I felt at all
@@alexia964 I've been there... I feel you. *hugs*
When I was younger I used to consume music a lot. There was not a day I wouldn't listen to my favorite songs, it was a huge part of my life. But lately, I don't need to listen to it that frequently anymore and I noticed that listening to music too much makes me less likely to enjoy and appreciate it. Now when I'm outside walking I listen to the sound of nature, when I'm in the subway I listen to the noise of people.
There was a time when I used to play music in the background but sitting down to listen to music for the sake of listening to it is 100% more enjoyable instead of hearing it in the background. I found your experiment interesting. I didn't have the experience of being addicted to music but on the other hand, I have experienced confusion in my emotions while listening to it too, and now I'm less likely to turn on the sad music immediately when something goes wrong in my life. Still, I love music so much. love the lighting and the aesthetic of your video by the way❤
I think this was a lovely study experiment you ventured in, even if the results and factors are “not reliable” as a complete study for others to reference; sounds like it was a fun adventure for you 🥰 because it certainly was for me to listen in
These intros brighten my day. Infectious smile and personality, Lauren.
Just discovered your channel and I love your content 😊
I stopped listening to music a month ago and honestly i dont see myself listening to music moving forward in life. I love the silence im surrounded by and i feel more at present more than i ever was. I feel more at peace.
i love way too many songs to ever give it up for ever but hats off to you :o

I'm proud of you as a fellow muslim too, keep going :)
I like your speaking style, it feels very genuine and not performative if that makes sense. It just sounds natural. Your videos are great so far, keep it up!
I had gotten addicted to kpop and music in general too, which definitely weakened my academic performance ,so ,when I stopped listening to it for focusing more on my studies , I realised that my attention span and focus had increased ....
I learnt from this , the fact that listening to too much music of varied genres and beats for a long time while doing other activities is not very good for the brain , you can do that sometimes but better not to do that for a longer period of time .
I agree me too
Why shouldn’t I listen to music while doing other things
@@Lily-ow5wm you can , just don't listen to it when studying or doing an activity which involves a lot of brain work, cause then you won't be able to focus well or also forget stuff you have studied

Music addiction?!? I wasn't aware of it. This video and the comments that followed opened were eye-opening. Thank you for sharing it.❤
Lrnjuile your videos have given me such comfort that I cannot even express. Not many months ago I left all the social media and started to live with minimum interaction with internet and more with myself and my surroundings. Your videos provide me with a sense of companionship, as they resonate with what I'm doing and experiences I can relate to. I am so glad I found this channel of yours as your videos speaks for what I'm trying to say out for myself.
SAMEE I'M GLAD THAT SOMEONE RELATES
Did a similar thing back in 2021. I was taking in so much media (podcasts, movies, music, videos, reels etc) during the height of the pandemic trying to distract from whats going on. it really disrupted my ability to focus and somehow it contributed to my brain fog. Did this for 5 months. Now more intentional with the media that i consume.
I'm struggling with it too since the pandemic do you have any tips pls?
How do you put intencion?
@@Annanna22delt ig n other social media apps disable TH-cam if u think u are watching too much shorts.
Remember listening music is not bad or something just don't get addicted don't listen to sadistic music for hours lyrics really rott ur brain when u understand them they make u more sad then u actually are.
Instrumental music is fine chinease or indian flute music or piano music is actually great. Also people don't get addicted to it lol
I did this in 2021 during my gap year, I did a gap year course in which our phones were taken away for the first month to do a digital detox. I'm someone who always always has music in their head and so I got used to listening to that, but the feeling of actually listening to music again after 5 or 6 weeks without it was incredible. The songs sounded absolutely amazing and it was like someone had curated the perfect playlist for me (obviously it was me in the past lol), the experience was honestly kinda indescribable.
Also, an ipod shuffle ! That's such a throwback, you have the same one I had as a kid.
I really value your take on this subject, i have been struggling with the same addiction for a while now and i relate really well to alot of the things you talked about i feel like i need a time out from spotify and how easy it is to drown myself in endless music. I went ahead and deleted Spotify but I will download the songs i like and only play them when i feel right to do so because i feel like everything in life needs to be in moderation and that includes music. From now until whenever i feel like i have control of my actions again I'll be enjoying life in default.💖
Ur voice is so soothing😭this video is also so nice and calming
Hey Miss! I loved the video. And I am literally obsessed with the aesthetic of your room. Could you possibly give a short room tour please? Would lovee it if you made one.
