    I hope nick sees this but I also wanted to point out that at first glance I wouldn’t appreciate most of the plants that nick talks about but the way he speaks and how knowledgeable he is about them makes me appreciate them soo much and it gets me as excited about plants as I was in the beginning of my journey in like 2017 🥲💛

    I told my husband that you said Hoya's are slow growers. He laughed. I have a Hoya Carnosa(?!) that he affectionately calls the Murder Plant as it's taken over a wall in the bathroom and has noticeable growth every day, and there's new plants all around the house that are cuttings from the momma murder plant. 😂

    • @missred7089

      Mine is the murder plant cause I wake up in the middle of the night and it’s stretching a vine like three feet toward me (incidental but nightmare fuel LOL). Grew it from a tiny sprig but now that it is established it grows and grows and grows!

    Tbh as lovely as they are, I am not diving in with Hoya because I remember when I grew up my mom had them and they took over the living room and their constant blooms where dripping that sugary stuff everywhere. I still see the attraction for sure, some of those leafs are gorgeous, but I prefer to visit Hoyas and enjoy them at other people's houses. :D
    My newest favourite trailer is just a common Scindapsus pictus I got for cheap from a local store where it was dying and they were about to throw it out.
    The ones I get back from the brink always end up my favourites. :)

    Nick, you're one of the first people I've heard pronounce Cebu correctly. I usually hear people say sea-boo and was pronouncing it that way until I learned it was a plant from the Philippine's. I asked my dad who is Filipino if he'd knew of it and he said I was pronouncing it wrong and that it's more of a s'boo with a shorter s sound. Ughhh your plants are LUSH! I can't wait for mine to trail as beautifully as yours.

    I live in Canada and have a north facing window, and have kept string of pearls alive and thriving for 4 months now! So I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. Surprisingly, the consistently bright light you get all day in a north facing window does very well for a lot of plants. When I first got it, it was all contained in the pot, now it trails about 3 inches! I only water when it’s plastic nursery pot gets extremely light, sometimes that’s 2-3 weeks between watering.

    • @SohiHien
      @SohiHien 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I live in Canada with north facing windows too! I find I can grow many things as long as they are grown directly in the windowsill. If they are more then a foot or so away they don't get enough light and plants tend not to grow. Luckily I have rather wide windowsills so they are all packed with plants!

      @@SohiHien yea! I only have large north facing windows and have no problem growing “sun loving” plants. I even keep my lowlight plants a few feet away from the window. I wonder if the hole in the atmosphere above us contributes to their survival....

    • @Locutus0fBorg
      @Locutus0fBorg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I have 3 north facing windows and one south facing window in my place. My north facing windows have the majority of my plants because they won't get burnt!
      Cissus and Peperomia plants do just fine being pulled back from the north windows in my experience. I have a cissus rhombofolia about 4 feet away from my north window (with an overhang for my balcony!) and I can't get it to STOP growing! My peperomia obtusifolia shot out 3 new leaves in about a month being 5 feet away.
      I highly encourage getting a plant light meter app if you have a smart phone that measures lux. I figured out that even being pulled that far back, they get around 500-700 lux (which is the low end of bright indirect light).

  • @coburgkid
    @coburgkid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Nick - If you want guaranteed success propagating cuttings in water, add a cutting of pothos to the same container of water as your cutting. It sounds weird, but it works. I was skeptical until I tried it, and I was amazed at how it works every single time, not only quickly, but successfully. Try it! The worst that can happen is your pothos will propagate, right?
    On a different note, can you give care instructions on Ming Aralias, the ones that look like parsley? I’ve tried growing them for literally decades, in different rooms, different houses, different lighting and watering, etc., and I’ve lost every one of them. I’m stubborn (or maybe stupid), and I keep buying them, albeit years apart when the pain and frustration subsides to a distant memory, because I love them so much. Thank you for such wonderful videos. I’m addicted to your channel and have been for years.

    Where I live in The Netherlands, peperomia japonica is EXTREMELY popular and common -- so much so that it was my first houseplant love! But, what's strange is that it's always marketed as peperomia rotundifolia. But the photos online didn't quite match my plant baby!

    Hi Nick! You're so cute and funny in this video! I love your picks for trailing plants. I have a couple of Hoyas, I think the Publicalyx and a Bella, that are vining nicely. I have the Cebu Blue (I've been pronouncing it wrong) lemon lime, marble queen and Golden Pothos, a philo Brazil and green heartleaf and Scindapsus Pictus Argyraeus are all really nice vining plants. I still want to find a Wax Ivy and the Ceropegia linearis. I've tried so many peperomias, but they don't like me. I recently bought a peperomia Nevada (?) and so far, so good. I didn't even notice your sweat stains until you mentioned them. LOL! The blue shirt looks really good on you. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Atleast when you're wearing a dark coloured shirt, the sweat spots blend in a bit more haha I didn't even notice till you mentioned it. Probably grosser to the person wearing it than the audience watching 😆

    I love that green pot you have your satin jade in. Where did you say it's from?? I've been on a hunt for the perfect color green pot.

    My wayettii just got buds for the second time (last year it blasted most of the buds though). It seems to me like it likes really bright light. I've got it in a south-facing window now and it grows much better and faster than when it was in a east-facing window before.

    Hey Nick! Loved this video! 💚 I picked up a Hoya Krimson queen last year in august and it’s already bloomed for me hanging in a north/east window. I really suggest spraying the foliage with the miracle grow orchid food spray! It’s worked wonders for my Hoyas.

    My Hoya pubicalyx grows so fast! I have it in a macrame and it's shot out so many, whatever they're called, and has leaves al the way up to the ceiling and is starting to climb across

    Hey Nick! Great video as always! I have a confession: I'm scared of Hoyas. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful. But the few times I have brought them into my home - I got spider mites. My home humidity is usually between 40 and 50%. Every time I would get it to start to flower, PESTS! I thought it would do okay for me, but no =( If you, or anyone in the comments has any suggestions, please let me know! Not sure what I'm getting wrong, or if that's just part of owning Hoyas! - Thanks!

    I would love a scindapscus jade. They are too expensive for me and hard to find unless you want a cutting or two online. Will we be able to get an update of all the plants behind you?
