    *I love that you tell how long you had the plant for and the size it was when you adopted it. Nobody does that on here, and what window of sun it faces. Newbies find that very important!!!*

    Hey Nick first off I want to say how much I look forward to your videos! Love listening & learning from you! Couple of questions please, first, what common plants absolutely need fertilizer? I haven't fertilized any of mine as they always say balanced. None of my fertilizers have the same numbers, what kind of fertilizer does? Also which do you prefer plastic or terra cotta pots? For which plants & why? Sorry now I feel needy! Well I am, I needy to know! 😁 Thank You!

    • @NickPileggiPlants
      @NickPileggiPlants  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I only fertilize when I’ve had a plant in the same soil for over a year. I prefer terra cotta over plastic, but I generally leave a few plants in their plastic nursery pots - Alocasias, Prayer Plants, and succulent Peperomias are the ones I always leave as is

    Great video, thanks! But you missed out the very best of all trailing houseplants: the SPIDER PLANT:
    It can be in full sun or in deep shade, thrives in any old soil, survives in hot and cold rooms and puts up with wet as well as dry conditions. It grows quickly but doesn't make a mess by dropping leaves. The elegant long leaves are striking and brighten up any room.
    The most beautiful variety is the one where the leaves are white on the outside and green in the center (white-green-white); this one grows more slowly and keeps a very proud shape for a long time.
    Best of all, the Spider Plant is super easy to propagate and gives even beginners a feeling of success. :)
    I think it deserves a video all by itself!

    I really expected cissus to make this list! I am in love with the beauty of my discolour, looking to branch out to an amazonica as well, and though it isn't the easiest house plant, it really has a beauty to it. I think if you're looking into rhipsalis now (I love my pilocarpa) I can expect you to start with some other jungle cacti as trailers soon too? Maybe some other succulents too, like a monkey tail cactus, lamb's tail, rat tail? Even the lowly string of pearls? There's a ton of trailers, worth mentioning, this should have been a top 20!

    I have a rhipsalis that must be 10 years old now, probably older. It is growing next to my kitchen sink, it hangs down onto the counter in a North facing window so it doesn’t get any sun. It is thriving there and currently it is loaded with buds and is about to start blooming. Friends used to go gag over this plant back in the days when people came over to visit.

    Hi Nick.....loving your channel! I'm glad you said something about the top balding because I have the opposite happening to me. I purchased an 8 inch hanging pot of goldon pothos a couple of months ago.....with the super humid MN summer, I've basically ignored it and barely watered it and it is so full and lush that I'm wondering if I need to re-pot already. Thoughts?

    • @NickPileggiPlants
      @NickPileggiPlants  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! If the roots are starting to come out the bottom of the pot and the plant is drying out quickly, it might be time to repot!

    Okay, I have a question :) I've been devouring houseplant videos for the past several weeks (love your channel!), but I never see anyone EVER mention Tradescantia pallida as a good hanging houseplant, or even as a houseplant in general. Is that because it just grows SO fast? I'm seriously considering getting a cutting to try it out, because my daughter would LOVE the purple color, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something important about this plant.

      People forget it I think it wasn't in fashion then but I have 3 species of the trabscandia so glad you ddibt call it the wondering jew which is the anti sematic name so thanks! but yeh totally do it hardest plant to kill really easy to propergate! I recommend purple passion and tri colour!!! Purple passion is alot easier. You can also grow them in water and in most light settings I've put it as far as 3 metres away from a window and it's been growing for months on end but I do roatte it to the window. I have dozens of these babies

    My callisia repens was my absolute favourite plant when i got it until it died from root rot after only owning it for about a week. I'm now waiting for all the cuttings i took from it to outgrow their pots so i can put them all together again. Honestly looking back i wish i took double the cuttings then i did because i adore this plant.

    Super good video! Thank you. I love trailing plants.
    If anyone is heartbroken from losing leaves on the top, don’t worry you can just snip the tips a little, water propogate those leaves, then add them into the top of the plant! Most if these guys like to be pot bound so the more the merrier! 💗

    Just my two cents worth here: My neighbour has a 'spaghetti' Rhipsalis on the verandah (I totally covert it). This is the Gold Coast, so it gets very hot in summer, and there is a lot of salt in the air, so I am guessing it is tolerant of more than just cold dry air.

    I have a happy carnosa rubra but it has some really dark leaves, almost black... I wonder if its some sort of variation. Its pretty and thriving though!
