    I had the pleasure of living there from 1996-2001 while in the Navy and again from 2004-2006 as a civilian contractor and loved it. When I transferred to Hawaii, I was totally disappointed. Guam spoiled me.
    Driving= Go with the flow.
    If you break down put a "For Sale" sign up so it won't get striped/stolen.
    Go to the village fiestas. You're always welcomed.

    This is great info! Thank you for sharing. We are currently in Washington, moving to Guam in June so I’ve been scouring the internet for base housing pics/videos and stumbled upon your channel

      There's where we came from❤️ when moving here I couldn't find almost anything. Try joining "Guam Military Housing Walls" on Facebook. It's not as active these days but so many people have shared layouts and pictures of housing! Empty & decorated to get an idea of what to expect.

      I did have a question! You mentioned driving is pretty easy, is there traffic/takes a lot of time to get around due to the island being so small?

      Yaaay glad it was helpful!

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly don't find it to be too bad unless it's the middle of rush hour traffic. There are times that it can get backed up but nothing outrageous. You can make it from one side of the island to the other in like 45 minutes give or take.

    I read and watch info from as many sources as possible to make sound decisions for my future. My big choice now may well be moving to Guam for an excellent, new, job. What I learned from you, that no one else spoke about, was the commissary being low on many items, the cost of electricity being very very high off base, driver's license info and spiders. Thank goodness you added that in, that you😮 haven't seen them rambling around the inside of your home! Thanks for posting all this info.

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the feedback! Another thing to mention is the commissary lately has also been having major quality issues. People have been finding bugs in packaged goods. They recently pulled all pasta off the shelves because bugs were found during an inspection & it was deemed inconsumable. As for spiders, we only ever find them on our back patio if were not good about upkeeping it and spraying it down. Never actually in our home.

    Thank you for your comment about the island of Guam where i was born trust me i agree with all your comments but some of them i agree some i don't agree when it comes to driver's license the DMV in the United States they know about Guam also cost of living is high because everything is all ship not like the states we're it's all there.but just bare with it sucks but it is what it is

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the insight! I never got a Guam license so I can't speak from experience. I just wanted to mention it because it's commonly shared. I agree the cost of living is what it is. It's to be expected when living on an island far from everything.

  • @rayz671

    Glad you're enjoying your stay. I agree, most people that complain, don't get out and explore. They just complain about what's not like "back home". The high cost of groceries is due to the Jones act. All imports have to come from a US port, which makes things cost more. As for the radio stations, there arent many, and ont have many genre shows, wo they play a variety. Im supreised you didnt mention cell phone service, reliability/costs. Get out and enjoy nature. Hiking, off roading, take a fishing charter, festivals, fiestas

    We all had "Guam Bombs" to get around because the roads had asphalt mixed with coral and it made things slick. People would buy these bomber cars so that if you got in a crash, you didn't ruin your good cars. This was back in 86 though!

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Guam bombs are very much so a thing! It's so funny how the term has stuck around for so long. The roads here are definitely rough on vehicles. Our $800 Guam bomb lasted us for the three years we were here. Not sad to have sold it though lol

    Happy to see you're keeping a positive mindset, it really is all in your perspective. I have family that have been living in the states for decades and the convenience and cost of living keeps them there 😥.
    You have to get a Guam Real ID, driver's license if you'd like it to be acknowledged stateside.
    Speed traps are not subjective, trust me 🥲.
    Brown tree snakes are bad if you live near jungle. 3 encounters so far this year, 🙅🏻‍♀️.
    Cost of living is insane, wages are horrible if you don't have a specialty or a degree. Good ol' Jones Act keeps prices outrageously high and capitalism.

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We absolutely love Guam but it definitely does have its downfalls. It is ridiculously expensive! As for snakes I think we're just lucky because of base & the traps they set. I have a friend living of base who had one come out of her sink, I would die! Thanks for commenting & sharing your insight 💗

    Is there a way to grow a food garden there, to offset some grocery expenses?

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have a green thumb, you could definitely have a garden here. The climate is fantastic! It's just recommended that when planting to put them in containers you can bring in during storms. If you plant in your garden beds, there's a high probability it will get ripped out if we have a storm.

    Hey, can you still get amazon if you live in Guam?

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! There's just no such thing as two day shipping. Most orders take a minimum of two weeks to get here. Also it's only free shipping with a minimum if you ship to an FPO. For example, if I ship it to my house I typically have to pay roughly $10 or so to ship it but if I send it to my husband's command address I get the free shipping with a $25 order minimum. I've heard you can get reimbursed for shipping charges if you have prime but that it can be hit or miss depending on what customer service representative you get. Some say yes others say no. So we don't bother paying for it out here.

  • @terencewalker5756
    @terencewalker5756 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The pulling over thing is real here, so are the crappy radio stations, not that great. The speed limit is for reals too.
    A good suggestion before coming to Guam, get a second drivers license before coming over. That way you can turn in one and have a second one for your self.
    Rain, gnats and spiders seems to be a big thing but they are mostly harmless for most people.
