Yes! I definitely recommend the ones on base. Navy has the "Navy-Marine Corps Society Thrift Shop" & Air Force Base has the "Airman's Attic". There's no Goodwill on the island so a lot of people donate to these. You'll also find tons of stuff just given away on the curbs if you follow the neighborhood pages. There's a few thrift stores off base but I never checked them out. From what I heard they were typically overpriced & not worth it.

Thanks for the insight! I never got a Guam license so I can't speak from experience. I just wanted to mention it because it's commonly shared. I agree the cost of living is what it is. It's to be expected when living on an island far from everything.

I know when we were there it was allowed. Best of luck to you on your move!

I hope Rojo recovers quickly from Shingles and it doesn't reoccur....:) Vons is a great supermarket...I wasn't that impressed with the commissary lol....but def check out coronado..very nice and the drive is pretty cool too..the bridge is fun....we lived in Murphy Canyon military housing when my hubby was stationed there.....Balboa park is awesome

Thank you for the well wishes! Thankfully he had a mild case & recovered quickly. I've recently experienced Balboa hospital & absolutely despise the parking situation there it's awful. I'm happy I'm being seen at NTC Branch instead. I will definitely be checking out your suggestions. Murphy Canyon is super close to us we have friends that live in that neighborhood.

All military on orders gets access to a household move, at least that's how it is with Navy. I can't speak for how expensive shipping yourselves would be since I've never looked into it, but I know a lot of locals that choose to move stateside end up starting over due to the cost. So, I can't imagine it's cheap. As for shipping stuff, we recently moved to California and had no issues shipping anything. There were no stimulations on garden tools.

I've personally never seen a list of rules given out but that doesn't mean there isn't one. You could try reaching out to the Navy Housing Office they may be able to assist you in tracking something down.

Guam is actually one of the cheapest places to get dive certified from what I've heard. I want to say it was under $300 & you also got 2-3 free boat dives included. They give you a book to read & review, you then do a classroom setting knowledge development with some tests (you can also do an online course, but I recommend in person), & then you do open water dives with an instructor (I want to say it was three full days in the water). If you pass all skills & knowledge tests you get certified. It's surprisingly easy. You can then either rent or buy your gear. If you know you'll dive a ton, it's worth investing in gear because it will save you in the long run.
