Hi Annie Our boating may currently be at a standstill but we are still trying to make videos with a bit of variety. This is a hobby which allows us to pass our time enjoying doing something we enjoy. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
As an engineer, I enjoy looking at old machinery to see the different approaches that were used to obtain desired results. Therefore, I really enjoy your presentations of classic equipment. I have great respect for the owners, because I doubt that I would want to put up with all the quirks on a daily basis.
Excellent video! I’ve always loved the look and sound of the old engines, they’re like works of art. My wife thinks I’m a nutter for watching engines! Stay safe everyone 👍🙏
thank you for your great vblog, I lost me husband 6 years ago, we aowned narrowboat (Clarence) with a lovey engine a lister air-cooled 2 cylinder. Hoping to see her on the canal vblogs. Not sure where she is now. can't miss her she as a air vent on the roof back of the pigeon box. again for your enjoyable vblogs thank's a lot.
Hi Marjorie Nice to know you enjoyed our latest vlog. We will keep a lookout for narrowboat Clarence on our travels. 2 cylinder air cooled Listers certainly have a distinctive sound. Stay safe and well. B & K 👍💑😷
Hi Dave Vintage engines have so much character. Like you we like the Bolinder but our favourites are Kelvins and the very rare Gardener 4VT. Stay safe and well. B & K 👍💑
I owned Kestrel for 20 plus years, came with an Armstrong Air cooled , put it in a Wendover boat Ascot. Then a Blinders with an unusual gearbox then a big Kelvin K2 then a 4 cylinder truck engine.
Hi Peter We love the vintage engines, particularly the large Kelvins. We have a modern engine mainly because we needed the space. Such a pity the emission rules will impact on the installation of these wonderful vintage engines in narrowboats. Cheers. B & K
Hi Robert Yuo cannot beat a decent brew. In the boating community many boaters have vintage engines, most are well maintained and look and sound superb. Stay safe. B & K 👍💑
Thanks B&K for another very interesting vlog, all those old engines are great to see and it's good to see how the owners look after them really well. It's great to see that you're both doing well in these uncertain times. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Stevie We are trying to make different types of videos whilst not out boating, glad you found it interesting. Quite a lot of boat owners with vintage engines spend so much time cleaning and polishing, they are so proud of them. We are trying our best to remain positive during very difficult times. So many people are in a worse position than ourselves so we are not complaining. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Hello again Vintage engine are either loved or hated by people, nothing in between. We love the look and sound of them but would not have one in a boat that we owned. Stay safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Nice one. Love the vintage engines, nice reminder at the end. Hopefully we might make it over towards the end of the year, if we get this thing under control and it’s safe.
Hi Alan Vintage engines sound and look superb if well maintained. We are in strange times and need to stick to the rules. Sadly we are seeing increasing numbers starting to flout the rules which really annoys us both. B & K 👍💑
Hi Yvonne Some of the vintage engines are works of heart. Our favourite is the Kelvin (front cover) owned by a friend of ours. Keeps it immaculate and it sounds wonderful Stay safe. B & K 👍💑😷
Thanks for taking the trouble to make that lovely video. I could smell the oil and the grease through the screen! I'm off for my "get fit" bike ride soon, one of my coping strategies during this strange situation. Keeping my distance from folk, but still managing a bit of banter with people I meet along the way.
Hi Pete Whilst being unable to boat we keep trying to put together a variety of videos from our archives. Glad you enjoyed watching this one. We regularly go out for our bit of exercise and keep ourselves occupied when at home. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Absolutely glorious we have a jp2 in a Hudson and you are quite right room is an issue but mainly because of the boatmans cabin. A lovely camouflage t shirt at the start of this vlog . Are you hiding from the wife. No its not great just sitting but such is life . Stay well guys and keep smiling.
Hi Jason Glad you enjoyed this video. Steve Hudson fitted many Listers in his boats. The biggest we ever saw was a JP4 in a 57ft tug style, the interior was nearly all engine andvboatmans cabin. It looked sounded great but would not suit ourselves. We are trying to keep positive and mostly succeeding but clearly some people are going to have mental health issues. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Wish I had stereo for the engine sounds, 'Misty J' has a jp2 Lister same as Robbies! (built by the same builder John South) great sound, been told I heard before seen! Been past the museum many a time (in my lorry, unable to stop), like Bernadet (do apologies if I have misspelled your good ladies name) I can stand watching the engines for hours, so could my ex, she loved them, Before I moved onto Misty J, regular visit was the The Museum of Power - Langford in Essex a old water works.
Hi Vinny The sounds from vintage engines are strangely very relaxing. Bernadettes parents had a lovely little 30ft narrowboat with a two cylinder vetus, you certainly could hear it coming. We love all the historic museums and being great fans of Beamish and Black Country living museums. Stay safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Hi Glad you enjoyed the vlog. The engine on the cover is one of our all time favourites. It is a Kelvin, a work of art owned by a friend of ours. We hope you enjoy cruising along on your new purchase. Stay safe B & K 👍💑😷
Hi B & K, love them engines. Just a pity we couldn't get the smell as well. I am just getting into Facebook (not behind the times at all) so will look you up on there. Keep up the vlogs it helps keep us happy. Stay safe and well. Hope to see you out on the water soon.
Hi Nigel We love all vintage engines, in fact most of our canal friends have these. We have a modern engine purely for space reasons plus I (K) can easily maintain our engine and get spares. We will try our best to keep uploading different types of video. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
Bet your missing your beautiful boat at this time of year...you won't be cruising this year I bet...sad and stressful times ..stay safe both of you ..thanks for your time to keep us all sane xxx..ps,how was the new boat engine performing ???..totally agree with everything you said in your rant...here here xx
Hi Andy With the easing of lockdown we are putting out a new vlog relating to our boat. It does look increasingly likely that carefree cruising will be very limited if at all. The engine is working fine or it was before lockdown. Not everyone whether boating or not have kept to the rules which is really annoying. A few of the other boat vloggers have really disappointed us, selfish attitude and not totally truthful. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
The Tiller People - Narrowboaters ..Arrr yes am glad you noticed that from some of your fello boaters....I have kept comments to my self , to avoid argument, but there are a few I don't follow anymore for the same reasons as you may also have ..not just me who had simular thoughts ..stay safe my friend xxx
Hi John We have been many times but like you we have never seen it running. We have some footage of it in an idle state which will be in a future video. B & K 👍💑
Thanks one for the kerplink kerplink lovers like me. Those that do not stick to rules only care for themselves and don’t give a damm about the rest of us. But I did enjoying the video.
Hi Vintage engines just sound and look great, the only disadvantage for us is the amount of space they take up in a narrowboat. Without a shadow of doubt selfishness in this difficult time is totally obnoxious. Keep safe and well. B&K 👍💑
Tiller pick me up. Just what's needed. Thanks K & B xx

Hi Richard
Glad you enjoyed it. Like you we love the vintage engines but just like Marmite you either love or hate them. Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑

Stay safe and well. B & K 👍💑

Yes, they are a lovely sounding group of engines 👍👍

You too Mike 🙂🙂
One of the best vlogs guys, loved every minute of it😁👍👏👏👏
Thanks David, it was a good day out, we enjoyed it too. 👍👍
8:44 - Two "hits" per second, that's four revs, i.e. ~240 rpm.
Also, that engine bay is trimmed like a royal class lounge. What a craft.
It is a beauty Jay. Thanks for watching 😎😎

There are some beautiful narrowboats but sadly many others are in a very poor state.
B&K 👍💑
Brilliant engines,thanks guys😁👍👏👏👏
Hi David
They are wonderful quality pieces of history, high maintenance but they will run forever if looked after. B & K 👍💑
Brilliant vlog Keith 😁👍👏👏👏

thank you. its really nice sound
Glad you like it! 👍👍
A lot of these engines remind me of stationary Beam engines at places like crossness Pumping station.
Hi Leo
You are spot on, some of these engines are made by the same companies.
Stay safe. B & K 👍💑

I know absolutely nothing about Canal boat Engines I imagine you know a lot more about these Engines being the Fred Dibna of Canals.
Fred Dibnah came from Bolton and so did my mum so you are thinking along the right lines. 😆
Keep safe and well. B & K 👍💑
