Extracting resin & chlorophyll separation | plant material

- This process is inspired by BHO method
However in contrast we got resin material carried by ethanol.
Ethanol bottle didn't have concentration specified, so it may be reason why this happened.
There may be other methods to separate chlorophyll, But I was unable to find better one.
Maybe by controlling PH we could do this without using super volatile solvents like butane, but I haven't got more of a plant.. to experiment.

Great choice of music! Also, wet your filter paper in advance with ethanol before charging it, you'll lose less product.

An easy way to separate, you could doing mixed your ethanolic extract with two part of water and leave at 2-8ºC for 24 hours, the chlorophyll going to precipitateand you could take the supernatant and back to concentrate it, like the firt method used (inverse way to evaporated de hidroalcholic extrcat)

I would really love to know how to do this. How would you seperate water from ethanol? Cold temperatures are defenetly not enough ^^
Like, seriously. Ethanol and water just mix with each other, how are you going to seperate them? I mean you could use salt, but you still end up with one salt water phase, and one ethanol phase which still carries both, the chloropyhl and the cannabinoids. So I call that BS
Skip the ethanol, it's a waste of time and money, wash your Bud directly in the butain....bob's your uncle.
Freeze your bud and alcohol beforehand bro👌 then only wash it for 20 seconds at a time so you don’t get all the green oil from the chlorophyll and keep everything as cold as you possibly can. 🥶
It what I do and it comes out perfect every time, beautiful Amber color, people think they get more if they soak it for hours they just get more junk.
@@jbob3744 I do 5 minutes and get amber shatter but I use the 99.9% USP isopropyl and have everything at -40F the whole time. Then i make warm RSO as a second run and make dank edibles.
The quicker the wash, the better the final product, what about getting out fats and lipids?

How do I kno if all the isopropyl is gone I put the rso in oil it looks like tar it's gooey but I hears to get a lil bit and light it with fire and if it catches fire then it still has some but I think it's bull shit I hit it with my heat gun and it starts but I think I'm just burning it bubbling

You want to go cold. Freeze everything. If you freeze your bio mass and do all of this COLD..will be barely any chlorophyl present..less waxes, fats and lipids. Less filters needed..THANKS for sharing ur info

Nice equipment improv! But why not just start with a regular butane/propane blast? You'll leave all that chlorophyll behind on your first blast and you can still of course winterize the wax out of it afterwards with the ethanol if you want. Or is there a specific reason you went with this order of operations? Not claiming to be any kind of chemist here 😂
Not actual chemist either, I used propane ethanol mixture to decrease propane volatility, which kindof worked, but the result was not expected. So I shared... Also to get feedback for better methods
So far, winterization+25 micron filter+rotovap gave me best results

You do have a really big UV source. Outside... Its always on...
A simple way is you can set in in the sunshine and it will clear up the chlorophyl. what about using hot water with no special high-pressure apparatus, as oil floats on top of water principal? us a syringe or baster to extract the oil off the top and then reduce/evaporate the remaining water? what do you think?

UV was used only to see chlorophyll, is is not necessary to process
For your own safety please never do any type of extraction with volatile solvents indoors. They may seem safe but the slightest spark and your life is changed forever. Just take the extra time to find a safe outdoor well ventilated area, and still take extreme precautions. Alcohol is simply better for full plant extracts which are meant to be consumed orally, not vaporized, so the chlorophyll is actually an added health benefit in such a case. However, for vaporizing alcohol extracts tend to contain some trace chlorophyll no matter what you do, so most people avoid it as a solvent for that purpose. Also be aware of the local/state/country laws. Always protect yourself both physically and legally. One love.

For the ones saying thc gets degraded..have you ever made some and let it sit in sun. . I get tired of fools who read books or go off 2nd hand knowledge. A few hours in sunlight doesn't do a f ing thing..I am not a newbie to the cannabis game..made this shit 40plus times,have let some sit in the sun for weeks...I still got blasted on dab hits.

Why not just cool the ethanol with dry ice instead of boiling it and avoid the chlorophyll problem almost entirely?
Didn't knew about such solution.
But even then, I don't have access to dry ice.
@@IlusysSystems Maybe you can order it on the internet? I find cooling alcohol in the freezer also works but I was thinking about chilling it in a dry ice and acetone/isopropyl bath. Should work wonders. You really don't need to add all that heat to strip the resin, alcohol will strip over 90% of the resin within the first few minutes. Also maybe the butane doesn't absorb the 'resins' because they aren't entirely non polar as they all have a hydroxyl group. When the butane hits the ethanol the temperature drops drastically and it will become more non polar so that may be why the goodies prefer to stay in the ethanol! It may be a little confusing because BHO is a very clear oil with very little chlorophyll, but thats only because the butane doesn't penetrate the cell walls to acces the chlorophyll. Very interesting procedures anyways I really enjoyed watching.

I have access to massive amounts of low quality weed "leftovers". Trim, old bud, homegrown hang dried, recently picked colas and everything else not worth smokin..
I've made a very reliable BHO tube with shut off valves for each end that accommodate 8+ layers of coffee filter. Slowly filling the chamber with. Butane releasing pressure a few times to get more butane liquid in the weed material. (Assuming liquid butane + pressure=better yeald) 110 degrees Farenheit max purge followed by a week of sitting in a low dust/draft area. Room temperature
Dark with little high I thought the lack of oxygen was the high . I've learned to dissolve the "wax" in everclear for 2 days in freezer then separate with syringes... I get material on top and bottom of a clear everclear middle.
Should/could I use everclear differently by putting into the blasting chamber a couple tablespoons everclear just Before butane?. (Feel free to ridicule me if this all sounds moronic).

I live in a retrofitted tiny home and have 12v power supply not 110. Super efficient freezer constant.
Other tha a 20ton press "dry sift" situation I dont have the time to operate. I'm at a loss as to what to do with all of this material...

There are much worse ignition sources.
Vacuum
Freeze flower for 48 hrs in chest freezer then take dry ice and and chill the ethanol mix the two together for 10 15 min . [time could vary) strain the hemp from ethanol and use a roto vap or hot water bath to get most of solvent out then purge it at 90f for a week. I would do a week if I can’t send a sample to a lab . I wouldn’t want anyone ingesting solvents
He doesn't have a separatory funnel, or a hot plate because he spent all his money on the roto vap.
Just use butane, it flash freezes the bud and strips it at same time...

Forgo the reflux part, pack your Bud into a cylindrical object... reenforced pill bottle. Spray the butain through the cylinder, repeat a bunch... Same results without messing around...
Ethanol extracts the most THC and other compounds from the plant matter and it's much safer to collect again
Activated charcoal cleans up the chlorophyll real nice. Use around 10% of the weight of your 'erb

Depends on plant I guess and what are you after. My goal was to find easiest way to remove chlorophyl, and probably least messy was suggested in comments - use activated charcoal

Definitely not all impurities. In fact, for vast majority of plants, oily extracts are virtually insoluble in water

I’d rather smoke cannibidol oils than butane or propane impurities, even in trace amounts.

@@Skunkhunt_42 yep it was mostly chlorophyll as I have tested by UV light. It's good question whether this was only extracted substance... TLC analysis would be good idea to do here, but I did not have any plates.. dunno maybe in future I would have to do this again, so I will look at this method more closely
