    I've always found it easier to mix the solvent and filter media in a separate flask and then pour the slurry into the buchner with the vacuum on, you get a more even filter cake. As long as you keep the vacuum on, you can add layers of other media on top the same way and they'll also come out even. I've also sworn off the fritted buchner funnels in favor of pore plates, you'll never get the carbon/polymers out of the frit unless you use piranha solution.

    What particle size is the celite 545 and what grit disk are you using in that buchner funnel? I know G3 wouldn’t be sufficient to filter out the celite 545 in most cases and I can’t imagine a 4-1 of ethanol to material going through a g4 that quick…

      A post-extraction dewax and chlorophyll removal? I'll pass along your request!
      You can do this during extracting using a dewax sleeve.
      The cold makes the hydrocarbon solvent less aggressive towards the fats, lipids, and chlorophyll, leaving them behind in the biomass.

    I found the best way to evaporate alcohol is to take an aquarium air pump and place the air hose into glass container (I used a 1 Qt ball jar) and set the container on a coffee cup warmer. The coffee warmer is a small hot plate that is used to keep your cup of coffee warm. In less than two hours, 90% of the alcohol had evaporated. The remaining fluid is very oily. Be sure to partially cover the opening of the glass container with a lid but do not cover it entirely. You will need room for the alcohol to exit the container. Also, due to the bubbling, the alcohol will splatter out.

      This specific funnel has a glass fritted filter disc welded in. The fritted glass is typically used for applications where standard filter paper would be destroyed by the solution to be filtered. The glass filter is 10-15µm.
      You can use an ashless filter paper or an unbleached coffee filter on top of the fritted disc, keeping fat and lipids or any other undesirables/debris out of the fritted glass disc to prolong its life.

    One simple mistake, you half to use a filtration filter paper.

      Actually you dont have to use filter paper with fritted glass funnels. It does help with clean up of your funnel, but thats about it. Not sure what you talking about cellulite that comes with the funnel? Uh? The carbon shouldnt and isnt going through at all. Not if you are using the corrent funnel with the right micron size. The black going through the filter isnt the activated carbon, its whatever was in the solution in the first place.

    • @92_SA

      Vancouver Guy I think he meant to separate the celite and activated carbon with filter paper and I would recommend to place the filter paper on the bottom, between the celite and activated carbon and to be really careful on top. Also be careful when pouring the ethanol mixture. Very careful! A cold ethanol mixture will work better (-40c). Good luck!

We have since changed our design and use a porcelain buchner funnel with ashless filter paper instead. The filter paper we sell comes in fast (20-25um), medium (11um), and slow (3um).

    Will this get rid of the strong chlorophyll taste?

    • @Jmarosii
      @Jmarosii  ปีที่แล้ว

      @SoggyCashew using the right filter aid will remove chlorophyll. Removing the smell and taste of the plant. When extracting using ethanol, activated charcoal exhibits selective adsorption, meaning it can selectively target and adsorb specific compounds like chlorophyll while allowing other desired components of the plant extract to pass through. This helps in removing chlorophyll while preserving other valuable constituents.
