      My 5.8 l Ford Windsor in my van valves rattle. And it uses about a quart of oil every 10 days. I thought putting thicker oil in it would stop using so much oil.. so are you saying I should just put 30 weight in there. What makes my valves stop rattling do I need a valve job?

    My dad, who was a mechanic until the late 1960's, would put STP in people's cars if the engines were burning oil or clattering, but the owners did not want to get an overhaul job. Most times, it would work for a while. He had an large old metal lathe with open gears that had oilers. But he would put some STP on the gears. I was fascinated by the web of strings of STP the gear sets would generate. He would show his customers how the STP would stick to gears.

    As far as electonics , i bought a compressor, jump starter , cigarette lighter, phone charger etc. I just bring it in plug it up and charge it. That way my cars electrical system isn't being stressed. Also has 110 outlets on it. One of my friends old cara has a broken speedometer. I use an old garmin navigation system as a speedometer. You can buy a Craftsman for about $85. If you want some serious juice upgrade to a more powerful box. Great when the power goes out.

    I worked for an oil company in the 70s where we added polyisobutylene (PIB) to the oil to increase viscosity. We also bottled and sold PIB to be used like STP.

    I never use any of those super thick additives... I use a Philippine invention that is called "Pertua"... it used by a lot of bus companies here locally and I even use a version of it on my 125cc scooter... in the US this may be called "Tribotech" I think... This is good for high mileage engines and should never be used on brand new engines or newly overhauled engines. It actually smells like grapefruit and is not thick... Pertua was invented in 1988, but the inventor was already demoing it in the early 80s each time there was a car show locally.

  • @komradkolonel
    @komradkolonel 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    That Sea Foam can work well on those Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engines. Those things are bad about sludge build up even using synthetic oil. There was a time when you could get 20+ years out of one of those engines and now you're lucky if you get four or five before it's either burning oil or that cheap plastic carburetor has to be replaced. I've never used Lucas on one before.

    Scotty, good evening....driving a 2007 Camry with the infamous 2.4 L engine with the defective piston seals. Engine has 180k miles, bought the car used with 40k. It has a manual transmission, thats why I got it with such low.miles in 2017. Question is should I have the piston seals rebuilt or.just keep addidng oil? its getting worse on the consumption. Using 5w-30 Royal Purple since bought it, changing every 5k. Thanks

    • @haiducchu
      @haiducchu 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Definitely rebuild if you're going to have a lot of miles in it. Oil in chamber will damage your air intake and catalytic converter, resulting in higher repair cost, plus the oil you've topped in along the way. You can try thicker oil like 0w-40 and additives to see if the problem still there.

      40 years as a mechanic (engineer) working in certain high end brands, stick to your OEM oil grade for now, if you change it as directed maybe after 250K Kilometers change to another grade, that depends on the condition of the engine. Must be checked by a real mechanic. Kind regards from BC.

    I have a 2020 f150 3.5 eco boost. Did an oil change today and at the end I started up the truck and looked underneath for any sign of oil leaking and noticed the catalytic converter had a small hole in it spraying out exhaust and liquid and created a puddle quick. With it being 20 degrees outside here would that just be condensation? Should I be concerned and get it checked out or just let it be? The exhaust leak itself doesn’t bother me unless it could create issues or if that liquid is a concern?
