Just finished both episodes -- super impressed with your strategic deviation from GeoWizzards' 'scoundrel' approach to straight lining of jumping in and asking for forgiveness. What you lads have done with turning this into a country-wide charity donation effort is nothing short of genius. Summer may have been a misstep but the emotional bargain of not worrying about getting caught knowing the entire countryside is on your side is priceless
It's absolutely awful how only half as many people watched this second episode after the INCREDIBLE first episode... people just don't appreciate genuinely good, high-quality, and respectful content i guess. Your respect for the farmers and their land is brilliant.
Would be interesting to see someone attempt SA or the NT. I've looked at it and there are lines where you wouldn't run into serious topographical or floral issues. Obviously the hazard is you're walking 900km with like a maximum of 5 sealed road crossings. Either way, you're going 400km with no road. There are much more accessible lines if you're doing the far north of NT, but that brings in topographical and floral problems. You'd need serious survival skills and local knowledge or support from the air. But damn it would make for a great adventure. And with ridiculous resources, it would not be impossible.
@@EziosBladez Well, I personally wouldn't say it is *impossible*, I'd say it'd be so excessively impractical and burdensome that it'd just not be worth attempting.
Awesome videos guys, well done. Would be great to add part one, part two etc to the titles so they are easier to find the right order to watch. btw this would be a great application for a job I used to do - biodiversity monitoring for DOC where you have to do multiple completely straight lines (200m each) for possum and ungulate monitoring. You would be awesome at it!
Wow you guys are proper polite and lovely; asking permission of every landowner possible, raising money for a forestry charity - wow. All power to you!
Yikes, those blackberry bushes look absolutely HORRIFYING. Very good example of why Tom wants to do his missions in winter, lol. Also, I really appreciate you guys going with subtitles like Tom does! Being hearing impaired, the subtitles are necessary for me to follow anything being said in the videos, and the auto-generated subtitles are awful for this kind of content. So thank you!
You guys did amazingly well with those horrific brambles. They were vicious! Top marks for perseverance, not sure I would have been able to do that for 925 metres of pain. Much respect!
Awesome! Ever since seeing Geowizard's SLM, i've always imagined how a NZ SLM would go. Not only did you guys take on a gnarly section of NZ (TARARUAS!) but also getting in touch with farmers beforehand is incredibly thoughtful and commendable. Great job!
Wow, well done making it through that blackberry. I was astounded you guys didn't have thick pants to tackle them with. The only time I've crossed blackberry like that I had to kind of 'tunnel' along the bottom with secateurs. So pokey! Still impressed you made it through.
I really felt for you in the brambles and admire your guts in keeping pushing through. I live in Yorkshire, and there are similar woods near us that would be virtually impossible to get through without a machete. Ferns are the worst for me, as in late summer the smell, and possibly spores, they give off make me feel very sick.
Enjoy this series so Much! As much as geowizards. Love your storytelling quality and determination. Have been laughing so many times at your humorous approach and been rooting for you through brambles and cow encounters. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series, as entertaining know as two years ago when released.
You guys are amazing, incredible determination and a very entertaining video! You both have a lot of charm and a great attitude which really helps. Looking forward to the next one!
Gentlemen supreme effort ..... I'm a gardener an i despair when I'm asked to clear bramble patches they truly are nasty plants !! Keep yer chins up ... keep on keeping on .... oh iye dinny worry too much aboot th coos if they approach just be cool .... however a bull is a different story .... that is brown trousers time ..... great job I'm proper interested in th journey ..... 👍👍👍
I wonder if there isn’t a fairer mathematical way to define success in keeping to the line rather than just distance. Something like a % within bands. Bloody good work guys.
Haha in hindsight many things including a machete would've been an excellent idea. (Something other than tshirts also would've been great😆) however we honestly were completely caught of guard by that forest block as we just assumed the tall pines would be fast travel! Hindsight is a wonderful thing aye! Glad you enjoyed :)
@@ollie_taylor As a native of the Pacific Northwest, if there has been sun, there are blackberries. Fun fact: They weren’t here originally. They were brought over to America by the Brits. Thanks wankers!
Nature is funny... the farm filled with 1,400 pound creatures can just be scared of you and run away, but plants that just grow blackberries leave cuts and bruises. Wonderful job!
Growing up in Oregon, I use to be the “man of the house” and had to cut away the blackberry growth from around our property every summer. It would take me all day, with tools, to cut up those bastards. The idea of storming straight into them on a straight line mission makes me both proud of you two and deeply troubled by the sympathetic memory of dealing with those things. I, no joke, still have scars on my hands and arms from those things. I will say this; they do more damage in the fall/winter than in the summer as they are still bendable. When they dry out, they become like frickin’ razor wire.
Fûxking hell lads, hats off to you on getting through those brambles, its bad enough getting a few out of my garden but walking through head hight patches, mental.
Brilliant! I recently spent 2 hours pushing through 50 m of tall reeds (search Across the Mojave on Foot); I remember thinking, "I'm glad these don't have thorns!"
I was starving for the official music of this kind of videos! (it's free to use). Good job lads, love this series too. (and well played raising that money)
So you decided to bushwhack across a country without proper long pants, long sleeve shirts, machetes, and in the middle of summer? Crazy, but live, suffer and learn, I guess. Good video.
Generally I wouldn't feel great about using a machete on someone else's vegetation, but blackberry is invasive in NZ so who cares. Look at the toll it takes smothering out forest floors.
planks of wood stashed along the line prior to each of the worst of the foliage might help in future. throw it on the foliage and walk across, then pick it up and throw it ahead again. Marty T shows how to use it properly in his videos where he rescues abandoned heavy machinery from dense bush
Ugh blackberry, felt every bit of pain for you. Might be useful to have an off cut of carpet to throw over any more, plus doubles as a bit of comfort off the cold ground. Look forward to seeing you traverse through the mountains and pop out on the east coast.
Brutal leg... yep machete and protective garments would have helped... plus that large red backpack may be what was aggravating the cattle so much.... still young whippersnackers can handle the bumps :)
Oh my God, walking through thick blackberries in shorts. You guys must be mad. But seriously, would have it been just too hot otherwise? …. oh, watching later on in the video, you cited what you lads did. Too funny. The fact y’all kept going shows real gumption.
If you do videos like this again make sure to include the eating and setting up camp. Can be good payoff for the viewers. Although I understand you would’ve just wanted to relax. Also I’m sure you know now but the cows are harmless.
Remember subtitles for best viewing! Also if you enjoy, a sub to the channel would mean the world 🌍
After going through what you two did, you’ve got my sub. I can’t believe what you two walked into. Madness.
I've subed and liked

The title of the video is confusing. It seems completely unrelated without clicking on it to watch.
@@JohnnyLeven you dont look at the huge writing on the thumbnail before clicking...?! lol

Such an interesting watch! Those brambles looked horrible!

At least New Zealand doesn't have snakes! There is no way in hell I'd even consider going into gorseor brambles like that in Australia!
I thought the same thing about snakes

Tom said that doing a straight line mission in the summer is impossible - you are proving him wrong !
That depends on the country. After all, he did Norway in August.
Depends on the environment, in the UK Tom would be absolutely correct.
@@EziosBladez Well, I personally wouldn't say it is *impossible*, I'd say it'd be so excessively impractical and burdensome that it'd just not be worth attempting.

Such an epic mission for NZ, mean it would been far shorter in northland, but real huge mission like this makes it far more epic. Keep up the mahi.
hahaha, east to west in the far north could literally do it in 2 hours

somewhere between 8 and 416 fences, that really narrows it down, haha.

You should eat those blackberries while you get eaten by their thorns.
Although not caught on footage, I can confirm Finn adopted this exact thought process and ate quite a few!
You should have "Staves" or "Walking Sticks", to help push the thorny material aside.
It feels wrong watching a straight line mission in 16:9 format

They weren't bulls guys :) Bulls are kept alone in their own fields.
Bro, why wouldn't you bring some sort of machete or something to cut through the dense shrubbery?
You did an unnecessary 4km beach walk before you started?
We had to get to the start of out line! It was 4km down the beach from the nearest road
@@ollie_taylor I once lived a few beaches south of your start line. The beach was a highway.
