I Carried a Ladder up a Mountain
Me and my friend @jamesmerwood decided to attempt climb a mountain with a ladder, so that we could say we climbed higher than anyone else. The mountain we choose was Mitre Peak in the Tararua mountain range.
All Filming and ladder carrying was done By Ollie Taylor and James Merwood.
Edited by Ollie Taylor.
Big thanks to James for being a legend and helping every step of the way.

New Zealand Adventure Race
มุมมอง 2.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A few weeks ago, 3 of my mates and I competed in an incredibly scenic and incredibly brutal 12 hour adventure race. My love for the outdoors owes a great deal to adventure racing, and some of my favorite memories are racing in the wild. We had a tonne of fun and got to see some awesome sights along the 70 km we traveled! Enjoy! If you want to learn a bit more about adventure racing as a sport, ...

Great adventure and effort guys. Glad you managed to get out without major injury & thanks for sharing!
How am I only seeing this on my feed now!? I mean, maybe because I'm on a trip to New Zealand, I guess. As a Brit who's toured NZ a couple of times, mainly south island .. it definitely seems pretty challenging! Great content! 👍
when are you releasing more videos ollie???
Impressive guys! Well done! Would like to see geowizard handle that terrain! He and the fieldhouse boys could learn a thing or two!
@3:32 "to keep my voice overs within platinum" ffs that got me, well done.
Another good one, commenting to show support! Nice :)
legendary stuff, well done again lads. Love the respectful straight line content you're producing.
Well down lads, way to not complain (or at least keep it in the edit) at each obstacle, I love these straight line vids but that is my least fav part, lol. Oh no, marsh! Oh no, shrubs! Oh no, forrest! Oh no, farmer! haha. Cheers from Cali! On to part 2 for this guy
Great work even with this ending. I'm 2 years late but this was enjoyable, chill, honest and genuine
Amazing content. Well done you two!
Those cows were terrifying. well done!
Loved the video!
Thank you both. I have really enjoyed following your adventurous journey. Tino pai.
Straight line analysis! I love to see it.
I love the fact that you have a better understanding of the whole theoretical monkey/typewriter thing than Joe Rogan does. Also, I have had a pine cone fall from a tree and hit me in the head.
Have you guys thought about submitting this to the Mountain Film Festival?
So does that mean Geowizard was right about doing these kind of things in the winter when vegetation mostly has no leaves? haha
Handy tip regarding electric fences, only electric wires have the plastic attached at post, any wires without the plastic are obviously not hot (electric). Also, you can put your boot on an electric fence and hand on post if wire is electric at the top wire, most fences will have one or two electric wires.
love it! Thanks for the journey
Just watching this after TH-cam suggested GeoWizard. Good on ya lads 👍
as a farmer they wont do anything to you those cattle just be careful of the bulls
if bro actually did this, I'm shocked NZ is one of the hardest places to cross
James, getting to work on time. That man deserves a DB!
Are you Ollie Wright? If you are I'm Tuppy, Waitapu.
Well done guys! I did a binge watch and enjoyed every minute! What a great pair of guys you are! Respect to you both
2 years too late to the party, but I watched every single episode and well done lads. I was planning something similar when I was a teenager, walking in a straight line, rafting or kayaking down rivers (no computers, TH-cam or cellphones in the late 70s early 80s). Cool seeing young one's getting off their backsides and enjoying the great outdoors. Likes
Also, gotta love all your jokes in this one, gotta love a future/Past self reference, Your Friend In Time, ADz Nz, 11.33pm, August 9th , 2024
Hope you try again one day, loved it
Enjoyed. A shame that YT algorithms lack a sense of the ridiculous.
if bro trys to cross the south island 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Fit young buggers, I was puffing and sweating just watchin yous
the beauty of Aotearoa lies outside the cities!
You guys put the hard work in on the ground, and in the planning, very well done, often the planning is the hardest part, when one omission can make things go sideways, and create unseen problems You boys done very well and the vids were bloody interesting
please make more series... love the capturing of our NZ nature - so many beautiful walks here maybe you could make NEW challenges yourselves and inspire someone else on the other side of the world to try them in their country...
Another excellent video from you two 👏
I just came across your video this morning. I have even heard of straight line walking before. Watching your adventure is very entertaining. Already I'm hoping that you made it all the way across so I can watch it all.
Well that was different lol, well done, ya mad bastards lol
Outside the square mission, very interesting boys, go hard
As a Kiwi myself, my attitude is they are only bones, they do tend to heal when broken. Wrap some number 8 around it and keep on tramping!
Did you research what the instantaneous gradient would be all along the track, to check you weren’t going to end up scaling a cliff?
You could have taken an earthing stick, to temporally short out electric fences whilst you scale them. Maybe even built that feature into your backpacks!
Electric fences are earthed. That's how they work
I guess it was a relief to not have to stare at the gps for a few kilometres as you walked down that road.
Are you guys brothers or best friends because you guys make a great duo.
I wonder if there isn’t a fairer mathematical way to define success in keeping to the line rather than just distance. Something like a % within bands. Bloody good work guys.
just discovered your channel has watched a video, it was amazing content and we need more nz youtuber like you! ill contiune to watch all of your videos and i hope you can upload new video one day
ur wrong
Ur tweaking
bit shit you did damage to the fences, pulled out the nails and just walked over peoples land. Its one thing to trespass and another to do it and leave damage.
Awesome videos guys, well done. Would be great to add part one, part two etc to the titles so they are easier to find the right order to watch. btw this would be a great application for a job I used to do - biodiversity monitoring for DOC where you have to do multiple completely straight lines (200m each) for possum and ungulate monitoring. You would be awesome at it!
The main videos were actually really well editted
