Handy tip regarding electric fences, only electric wires have the plastic attached at post, any wires without the plastic are obviously not hot (electric). Also, you can put your boot on an electric fence and hand on post if wire is electric at the top wire, most fences will have one or two electric wires.

I was planning something similar when I was a teenager, walking in a straight line, rafting or kayaking down rivers (no computers, TH-cam or cellphones in the late 70s early 80s). As a Kiwi myself, my attitude is they are only bones, they do tend to heal when broken. Wrap some number 8 around it and keep on tramping!

Did you research what the instantaneous gradient would be all along the track, to check you weren’t going to end up scaling a cliff?

You could have taken an earthing stick, to temporally short out electric fences whilst you scale them. Maybe even built that feature into your backpacks!

I guess it was a relief to not have to stare at the gps for a few kilometres as you walked down that road.

Awesome videos guys, well done. Would be great to add part one, part two etc to the titles so they are easier to find the right order to watch. btw this would be a great application for a job I used to do - biodiversity monitoring for DOC where you have to do multiple completely straight lines (200m each) for possum and ungulate monitoring. You would be awesome at it!
