Regarding the abandoned house/cabin, I’m guessing a commune. And it was the Forest Service that threw the dirt/debris on the mattresses to discourage the curious from sleeping there. Otherwise, stunning video Foresty. And definitely missed Rocko at the Putnam Cabin. The whole tone of the channel has benefited from Rocko’s presence. Few pet dogs enjoy the freedom that Rocko has with you. And the relationship you two have built up over the last couple of years is heartwarming. It’s remarkable what a difference a second personality adds to your journeys and how dependent even we as viewers have become on Rocko’s presence each week. 🥲🐶 Thanks Simon❣️

An update for ya on the logging up Rice Brook South Fork: The project is essentially scraped because the planned road is too expensive to build. If you feel like busting your ass one more time to unlock access to a cool spot, just needs another 4km of trail cut from the end of my trail you checked out last summer!
Hey Noah, thanks for the update! Thats good to know, that is tempting to carry on from your work! I think we were chatting on Instagram too, i deleted my account so i lost the ability to message. Maybe I'll see you around some time! Cheers
@forestyforest Ah yeah makes sense, I was gonna send you message cause I was going into the Blackwater range the other weekend to bag Blackwater and ski down. I thought you could be interested. Great work clearing out the trail into Fairy Meadows! Many thanks for your efforts!🙏🙏 I know exactly how much of a challenge that trail can be. I ran the Alpine Club's GMC at Fairy Meadows in 1986, 1992 and 2000, we camped in the meadow below the hut. I walked the trail at least 10 times during those camps. I packed my trusty Stihl 009 and a machete each time I walked out, trying to improve the trail. By the end of each GMC the trail was in pretty good shape, most of the participants walked in and out, beating the trail in. Thanks again, the trail is an important corridor to an amazing location.
In bold font, highlighted in red - Hiking Is Absolutely Not Recommended Forest - This sounds like FUNNNNN!! Seeing that gleaming grin on his face, well twas contagious - Thanks for the smile! xoxo skizz0tty
First off, I'd like to thank Forest for all great work he did on the trail. Having it largely cleared with most of the deadfall cut out made a huge difference on a trip in last week. There are some new deadfalls here and there but they're manageable. Plus the Swan Creek wildfire this summer has added some more obstacles to deal with. I would just like to make a few comments about the trail based on what I read in the guest book at the hut and what I learned after speaking with some other groups we met up there over the weekend. Firstly, you may or may not be able do this trip in 4.5 hours. Our group carrying in heavy packs with mountaineering gear made it in 6.5 hours and we felt that was a pretty good time that matches with what the ACC estimates it will take the average group to hike in. A lot of the guests in the log book said it took them 8 or 10 hours to hike in and the one group we shared the hut with had wandered in after dark after expecting it to only be a four or five hour hike which ended taking them more than nine hours to do. And it's not the safest trail to be wandering around on in the dark. On the other hand, a group of trail runners we met had taken 4.5 hours but they all had pretty light packs on. Your mileage may vary. To note, this is a very technical hike; this is no Parks Canada hiking trail through the forest. There's still a lot of alder bashing, side hilling, an active forest fire and burn zone, rock gardens, very steep slopes, and slippery moraines to manage. Obviously those hazards are manageable but take those into consideration and plan accordingly. There are parts of this trail in which a slip or fall could mean serious injury or death especially up higher on the trail near the moraines and the waterfalls or when it's wet. That said, once again, thanks Forest. I kind of enjoyed this trek in but next time, I'll fly, haha.
That's great to hear it's getting some traffic this summer! Yeah it's definitely a challenging hike, still takes routefinding skills. I'm hoping to head back again with a brushcutter and do the second half so it's easier to follow.
Fairy Meadows? I think that's now Foresty's Forest. I love the footage of Rocko doing her thing and enjoying the nice clear trail starting around 10:50
Way to go foresty!! My buddy and I gave it a go last October and only made it 1/2 way…yesterday we made it to the moraine but ran out of time for a day hike…the 2 small fires this summer created a mess on the trail early on in the old growth and slowed us significantly but I have to say the work you did to the moraine was incredible…couldn’t stop remarking how much effort you put in…truly incredible and extremely thankful…just wish I had my 20 yr old legs lol
Your trail maintenance looks soooooo rewarding! I’m disabled, but if able-bodied, I’d LOVE to be out there keeping trails updated for other hikers! Alone. In the woods. Me and a chainsaw. And maybe a monster weed wacker. Heck yeah!! Good on ya. And what an awesome cabin!! I’d sleep like a baby up there by myself with that spectacular view. The drone shots were stunning!!! 😊
TH-cam giveth and sometimes taketh. But today, it has giveth. I've never seen this channel before and I'm instantly a fan. You make me wanna get around trees so badly. I grew up in the country and I'm feeling so lonely in this concrete jungle I find myself in. Thanks for sharing. One love ❤️
We hiked in and out (to the hut and back) in one day last Sept - that 3km Alderbash at the start (not to mention the massive Devil's club patches to whack through before the rope climb) were tough! Even the Bear Grass in the meadow was an ankle breaker - but SO worth the work. We were going to go in there with our chainsaw in a few weeks to try and make it better - thank you so much for that incredible work you put in! You had a LOT more snow than we did. The oyster mushroom clusters were incredible when we went in there and yes, LOTS of bear scats.
Anytime a Foresty video begins with a _THWAP!!_ of a branch crashing into the camera, you know it’s gonna be a phenomenal video!! 🎥🎬🌲 Rocko makes our day better!!
What an awesome spot. This was another outstanding video and the trail maintenance was outstanding. That would be a great spot to live. Thank you for another outstanding video. Take care, Al
Back when I worked trail construction, five eight hour days of clearing would have earned you probably $1-2k US. Thank you for doing so much work for free. Side note, alders are the absolute worst. They creep across the ground sideways so you can't just cut an alder once, you have to cut it like 15 times to get all the limbs out of the way. I would much rather cut a small number of big trees than cut my way through a grove of alders.
Great video. I really liked that he didn't break the rules with his little sidekick because, no one would have known. 5 - 6 long days condensed down to 20 mins. That was a lot of hard hard work he did on behalf of the community. Respect. Beautiful locations. Thanks for all the time, effort you put into this video, great work!
All that keeps running through my head while watching this: he's so awesome, he's so awesome.... The way you care for the land you explore and make it a better place for those who come after you. You're so awesome!
One man and one dog trail crew. Out there making things "accessible" again. Thanks for all your hard work and you definitely deserved the sauna. Beautiful scenery at the end. Thanks for taking us along.
That beautiful sunset! You’re such a treasure, taking good care of Forest land and showing folks the right way to treat our precious lands. Cheers to you and Rocko for another great adventure.
Once again, Foresty, you've outdone yourself. The commitment of a soldier, humour of a writer and eye and soul of a naturalist. Exceptional drone and music content. Yet another outstanding episode. [I miss Rocko!]
I noticed you using a walking stick this time. I often wondered why you didn't before. Your drone footage at the end was really nice. Thx, I really like your channel.
I accompanied a group of Brits partway up the trail back in the mid-90's, when I worked for the ACC. I turned around when the Devils Club started getting a little too familiar. I'd only planned on doing part of the hike, but they said the rest of it was somewhat brutal. I'm going to enjoy watching your escapades here and I'm definitely going to crack a cold one in your honour. Cheers!
Thank you for being such an amazing steward of the land ❤ Volunteering in land management and cleanup is some of the most rewarding. You can see the results quickly and it makes such a difference to so many. My experience was with old growth redwoods repairing roads, removing ivy, resurrecting meadows. It was the best time and made my heart so full. Call around to find a place, public or private that needs volunteers. We found this place searching for waterfalls 😁
You are one tough guy, I really enjoy watching you clear trails and going up those mountains, hats off to you, I trained a lot of Sheet Metal Workers and know what it takes to work in areas that are cold and have obstacles
Sometimes I wonder who is my favorite youtuber, then Foresty Forest puts out a video like this. It's you Foresty. Definitely you. Thanks for what you do 🙏
Absolutely beautiful footage Simon, you are a BEAST! Sorry the little savage couldn't make the cabin trip with you. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures, us old geezers live vicariously through you my friend.
Simon! You are an absolute mountain of a man! Jeremiah Johnson would be proud of you. I so enjoy living vicariously through your videos. I love how honest and law abiding that you are. I can’t say that I would follow the rules like you do. You are an absolute gem. I look forward to every one of your videos, big short or small. Keep living your life hero. We’ll be right here with you!
Two words Foresty…Lighter Chainsaw! I have the Stihl Ms-170 and it’s great. You can get the Ms-172 with the 16” bar and it weight just over 10 pounds empty! Does a great job as well!
i have played in the bc back country from hope to prince george and from merritt to rock creek for 50 years and am surprised with something new each trip.. BC is an awesome place if you enjoy the great outdoors and can tolerate the atrocious government here. thank you for your hard work helping keep our trails available,,
That's an absolutely beautiful site. And the work you put into reviving that trail is nothing short of heroic. I've done a bunch of mtb trail building, and am familiar with hauling a chain saw - but nothing like what you did here. If 1 person in 1000 shared your ethic it would be a much better world.
It's nice to see someone taking care of these resources as opposed to the jackholes who built that squatter's cabin and left the truck there to rot. Bravo Foresty!
The trail should be renamed as the Forestry Forest Trail. Simon is amazing and never fails to impress anyone who watches. Canada owes you a debt of gratitude, Sir!

Yeah, let's buck the trend and show the brass that people CARE when effort is put to abandoned trails!
Definitely no sinister things. The peeps that live in that abandoned cabin can skip this trail lol
"let's check out the abandoned cabin and see what's upstairs" never ends well in the movies..

@@Hilhub haha right? I often need to remind myself that he posted the video so that means he lived.

what exactly was that on the bed....anyone know?!?
@@terrirocklover7957 Or Who ? 😮
Imagine a world where people cared as much as you do. Thank you for taking us along in your adventures.
In a just world, clearing the trail like that would earn you a "dog waiver" on that cabin - especially for such a small dog.
Amen.
Yea dude!
Why don't they have a separate climate-controlled dog cabin?
Kidding???? No dogs after you cleared that? Oh hell no. You are Way too kind. Beautiful video again, as always. You are a blessing to the world
youre right, common sense was replaced with sense for money.

this is the best channel I have ever found
Agreed. Relaxing. Nature fix.
You're the best Foresty! More Rocco please!
You AND Rocko should be granted permanent access to ANY trail you want for all the work you do maintaining them!! 🐾🇨🇦
Hey Simon. Thanks for another great video. 👍
I noticed you using a walking stick this time. I often wondered why you didn't before. Your drone footage at the end was really nice. Thx, I really like your channel.
Thank you, this hike involved a lot of side hilling on slippery grass. Needed to have some extra stability.
Awesome work as always Simon. Your videos are the highlight of the week.
Cheers!
Hahaha, its still a devils club obstacle course... Rocko learned to let me carry her through those sections.
We also get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You are a kind soul Simon. Be safe.
Probably my favorite Foresty Forest video ever! Excellent camera work. Felt like I was there with you…but glad I wasn’t 🤭🤣
You're the man, Foresty!
Forest, you are so Foresty 😘☺️ As always, good to see your face safe brother
Two words Foresty…Lighter Chainsaw! I have the Stihl Ms-170 and it’s great. You can get the Ms-172 with the 16” bar and it weight just over 10 pounds empty! Does a great job as well!
i have played in the bc back country from hope to prince george and from merritt to rock creek for 50 years and am surprised with something new each trip.. BC is an awesome place if you enjoy the great outdoors and can tolerate the atrocious government here. thank you for your hard work helping keep our trails available,,
That outro shot is next level. What an incredible place!
Man these videos just have a calming effect. Wish they were longer bud but I know u dont really even like talking on camera. It's appreciated 👍
Also Rocko is allowed when u put in that effort!
