      That train often has 4 locos but on non-strike days runs a few hours later. Thanks!

      Thanks Tim - just shows strike days aren't always boring! Mind it would have been busier if that 66 hadn't shed its coupling north of Chirch Stretton!

    I was waiting for the Azusa to come up or down the Tyne Valley line . To see them snake down is lovely. The service departing north you can see both sides of the train , nice. Then three heritage units all in the same place. Then superpower !! 4 locos hauling 2 flasks. Two for redundancy but 4 must have been a power move. Brilliant good work. Live it.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was good wasn't it. Yes a power move, firly frequent on a Saturday.

    Leslie is that the original name plate for leander?

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've actually no idea especially whether the original nameplates were sold at withdrawal and before preservation.

    • @stephendavies6949
      @stephendavies6949 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlikely, as most were sold off or preseved. The colours are prototypical though.

    Andania is obviously an older loco, very classic. Does the "D" mean "deltic" or just an old classification? I did not now the 57s were called bodysnatchers! There has to be a story there. Great video, just sad to read that so much disruption occurred between strikes, accidents, and more. I have not heard the extent of damage on the Royal Scot or Flying Scotsman since the accident. Clearly, bad enough to warrant cancelling some trips. Glad you are home safe and hope you had a great time over here!

    • @Tiffy552
      @Tiffy552 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whilst steam was about all diesel loco's started with D + their number.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Anthony. Andania is a class 40. These were introduced around 1960 to replace the express steam on east and west coast mainlines. They were seen as too heavy compared to class 37s which were effectively a development of the 40s. I had to Google a railway nickname beginning with B and that came up. 57s are re-engined class 47s.

    Hi Leslie,nice mix of rail traffic.
    Why is that the Sellafield train usually has 2 locos for such a small movement and this time 4 locos for 2 wagons?
    I presume it's to do with safety and security.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its basically a power move. The flask trains need a pair of locos for redundancy should one break down. However a lot of locos seem to end up at Sellafield and need to move back to Kingmoor depot.

  • @alanrobertson9790

    Is four 68s to pull 2 flasks enough?

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two are standard with the others being moved to Kingmoor depot saving a separate train

    It's always the heritage lcocs that catch the eye. D213 looks magnificent! Goes without saying Leander is gorgeous too. It may have not been to everyone's taste at the time, but the BR lined black livery & early emblem do look good on preseved locos.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. And a forty is always a favourite as is a Jubilee. I porefer them in green of course but no doubt the owners will repaint it after the boiler exam.

    There was more to see than on a none strike day. Enjoyed this

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that! At least the regular passenger trains didn't get in the way! Saying that I nearly lost one shot because of a late running intermodal (which wasn't recorded)

    There was no chance of that nuclear flask train becoming stranded due to loco failure!
    If 57s are nicknamed "Bodysnatchers", then what should 69s be known as? "Bodysnatchers 2", or "Return of the Bodysnatchers" perhaps?

    • @AndreiTupolev
      @AndreiTupolev ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's what they're always doubleheaded

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hadn't realised they were called that but needed a rail term begining with B and thats what google presented me with!

  • @roboftherock
    @roboftherock ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, the resource planners at LNER had you in mind when they scheduled successively numbered Azumas to be in adjacent platforms at Carlisle - TWICE. They knew you couldn't resist commenting. The exclamation mark proves it.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      That train often takes a pair of spare locos from Sellafield to Kingmoor so really saves a separate light engine move.

  • @AndreiTupolev

    I needn't worry about cancellations, since in the immortal words of hopefully soon to be former Transport Minster or Secretary or whatever he is Grant Shapps, "Adter all, you've got to ask, does anyone actually travel these days?"😒🙄😑

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well plenty would travel if there was reliability - you only have to travel on LNER to see that passenger numbers are coming back. Of course he's defence secretary now - war ? no war now so who needs defence
