Great video, nice change Newcastle Central. Of course I'm biased, as a Geordie now living in North Wales I spent many hours in my youth in the 1950s train spotting there........Happy memories 😃

What a serpentine route through Newcastle and some of those curves sounded tight, no wonder they have the extra rail to keep things on track! The Lumo units looked very smart and clean.
Yes they do. The curves are tighter at the west end than maps would suggest,

Thanks Tim. It's xxxx years since I was last at Newcastle and it's changed a bit. However it seems busier than ever and everything handled quite smartly. The end views to east and west are excellent and make up for the excess of masts etc.

Welcome to my patch. Sorry you got Hitachi'd and Voyager'd to death. Least you got the excitement of an East Midlands 153 and a couple of freights. That why we traditionally trundle across the Tyne Valley to your neck of the woods Leslie. Mind you, in the past I have seen a few Carlisle lads on Toon. Theyd come over to get the zings and their coaching stock underlined. In the 80s, I'd go over to Carlisle just to avoid screaming zings(HSTs) for the calming hum of the electric locos. Sadly as time went on, even zings got into Carlisle. Still nice to see Newcastle Central and the iconic Castle Keep in a video. Thank you for sharing another great video Leslie.
Thanks! It did make a change from the darned Pendos. The guys I see from the NE at Carlisle told me there was no freight to speak of but to be honest I was happy.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways well that's the main thing Leslie. As long as you enjoyed the trip out. I think the Tyne Valleys a nice line to go over too. Not as nice as the S&C but still quite scenic in parts.
@@mickeybarrass3625 The Tyne Valley has some lovely locations, which I;ve used at the west end for diversions and steam. Along the river east of Hexham is fantastic too . Problem is you can only appreciate a few 158s and 156s and the daily engineers train (which might be a light engine and which will be withdraw altogether soon)

Well they are there and people seem to like them. It would need something like a 9f to manage those biomass trains.
I bet they will never put on a train from Land’s End to John O’ Groats!!
I think Penzance to Aberdeen is a reasonable journey! Edinburgh to Wick would probably take much longer.

I managed to get tickets though somehow my ones for tomorrow may be money wasted given the forecast . I thought I needed a change

Thanks. I took advantage of Northern's £1 flash sale to make my first trip to Newcastle for around 40 years! Only 70 miles from Carlisle and the nearest "big" city.
Nice alternative to good ol Carlisle Leslie.
I needed a change! Some shots north of the border coming up plus another ECML location with a bit elsewhere in Yorkshire!
The usual wonderful fare, Leslie, but the LUMos stole the show for me. It is always nice to catch an Azuma, and even a DB Schenker red 66 is fun to see. Also, some of your shots of various incoming runs looking over all the crisscrossing tracks does reveal something I am really focusing on lately. While always parallel... there is a lot of odd angling and not-very-straight track there when one would expect it to be relatively straight... and not smooth curving, either. Interesting! Cheers!
Thanks Anthony. Newcastle really is on a tight curve! I liked the Lumos too as you might have realised. I found some challenges but think I managed to get around them
I'm in cramlington, and the variety over here compared to Carlisle is massive. You have brilliant variety. We have boring azumas and horrible voyagers 😢😢
And I thought, livery wise, Newcastle had a better variety. For us it's pendo pendo pendo with 397s and 802s. Not seen a voyager for a few months now as Avanti slowly withdraw them.

So long as NE weather is OK for you and fare is low Leslie, please keep going there, it is far more photogenic than Carlisle! However nothing yet beats your classic 4 or 5 trains at once coming/going S out of Carlisle!!
I certainly plan to go more often but Carlisle is my home station and even though it's getting less busy I find it a good location for videos and personally find it photogenic. Newcastle has the big problem of all the catenary posts which needs practice to work around.

Newcastle has photogenic location but Carlisle has more interesting trains. It's great to have a variety of locations (Hellifield is brilliant) but Carlisle is rock solid.

Always nice to see a Tug. Shame EWS/DB couldn't have been forced to sell them to other operators prior to most of them becoming beyond economic repair.
I'm sure 153385 used to trundle between Derby & Matlock prior to becoming a NR asset.
Agreed, vDB seem to be doing that with many of their older locos - but I dare say most wouldn't meet modern exhaust standards ( but that's no reason to divest themselves of Class 90s).
,153385 is ex East Midlands so that is likely.
Here in Australia a fatality on the track is labelled, "a Police incident", to passengers.
Delays like that are frustrating for all rail users.
£1 is a good price though. 👍

Since the railways use automated announcements based on what the various train companies enter on the central system as cause for delay, the public get to hear all manner of reasons - fatality, trespass, animals....which are usually accurate. Thanks for watching.
