- Pakistan's foreign ministry says its air force has hit targets in Iran's province of Sistan and Baluchistan.
Iranian state media is reporting that seven people have been killed.
Iran carried out an attack on Tuesday, which killed two children in Pakistan's Baluchistan province.
Tehran says it was targeting an armed group fighting for the rights of the Sunni minority inside Iran.
Islamabad has long alleged that separatist groups are launching attacks on Pakistan from inside Iran.
Pakistani Foreign Affairs ministry spokesperson says air strikes were carried out to defend the country's sovereignty.
Al Jazeera’s Kamal Hyder has the latest from Sukkur in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
Mohammad Marandi is a professor at the University of Tehran. He says the Iranians felt they had to carry out a pre-emptive strike in Pakistan.

We always had good relationship with Iran, Pakistan was disappointed and surprised to see the Iranian attack inside the Pakistan without providing any proof or dialogue. It is not a morning for celebration, as Iran is a Muslim country. We all condemn what Iran did yesterday, and Pakistan had to respond to assert our sovereignty. This is to show that challenging our sovereignty is not acceptable today or tomorrow. However, I still hope for both countries to come to the table and resolve issues as soon as possible. Our collective focus should be on a common target, which is Israel, rather than turning against each other.
