This is one of the best agreements the Somali government has ever signed. As the reporter emphasized, Turkey is the only country tirelessly engaged in helping and doing business with Somalia after everyone else has abandoned it. The maritime security deal is well thought out: 30% of the blue economy in exchange for training and equipping modern naval forces is like a gift. Somalia's coast and exclusive economic zone have long been dumped with radioactive waste and harvested by foreign ships, with illegal overfishing happening regularly. One UN report suggests that $300 million is lost annually in Somalia due to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Foreign vessels sometimes engage in dynamite fishing, which damages local marine resources, affects the livelihoods of local fishermen, and diverts funds away from Somalia's economic development. In conclusion, Somalia stands to benefit significantly from this agreement, with minimal risk. The generosity displayed by Turkey in accepting this deal is both substantial and praiseworthy.
Also the vid ignores Somali agency, a thriving Diaspora community now holding many key foreign governmental, and socially respectable positions around the world, while still maintaining our faith, distinct values and culture which is rare.
We turks have e special love for Africa, especially Somalia. I hope Africa turns out to be a superpower in my lifetime. I would love to see all oppressed countries to be in power and show the west a lesson: How to be human and treat everyone as wanted to be treated.

30% for the Turks is a good deal for Somalia, and offsets the cost of maintaining a costly naval presence in Somali waters for Turkey. The strong maritime security in turn will allow for the proliferation of oil and gas projects, as well as the establishment of a Blue Economy. This has the potential to yield hundreds of billions of dollars for the Somali economy, and with a population of 18 million, the country could be lifted out of poverty in a single generation, and the government will have the funds to maintain its own large navy and merchant fleet like before the war, when the Somali merchant fleet was the largest in the Islamic world. 70% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

@@stefanpieper3757 It's worse in every way, Somaliland is not recognized by anyone, so Ethiopia is taking advantage of this by only "pledging" to recognize them. They can basically withdraw from that promise at any time with very little consequence while they reap all the rewards of having sea access through Somaliland. Furthermore, in the long run, Somalia benefits from its deal with Turkey because its economy will improve by developing its offshore natural gas fields, enriching them immensely and benefiting them from rearmament and army training from a NATO country. Not true, as a ethnicity that were part of the Ayyubid empire and Ottoman I can reassure that is not the case. The Ottoman ruled with tyranny, and were only muslims on the paper, not a single sultan ever visited Mecca Medina. Everyone revolted against them, and they were crushed merciless just like the colonies of Africa when the West invaded. But finally they got weakened after WWI and ALL of the colonies revolted and got independence, apart from Kurdistan who was betrayed after helping the Ottoman power in Anatolia rebuild a new country, Turkey. Instead of rewarding them for their help against the British and French they invaded Kurdistan, massacred the population and stole the land and it's oil with the help of the British after the secular Turks joined hands with the west gaining access to warplanes and banned Kurds from practising their language, culture and worshiping Allah. Hoping to join the West, but they never got in to EU and now they pretend to be Muslims again and steal your oil too. For a person that has history with Turks over 1000 years as neighbours, let me say that you should be careful in cooperation, one day they could say Somalians don't exist, they are desert Turks and Somalia don't exist it's a dream, imaginary country, where is it? It starts with the language and indoctrinate at the Turkish built mosque. If you ever hear Turks say Turk and Somalis are brothers, we love them, that's the time to run away before it's too late!
Turkiye is different. Your theory on the involvement of Ethiopia is an American mentality. Turkiye welcomes Ethiopia in economic access in Somaliland, just like Somalia does, with Turkish mediation of course. This is beneficial for the region. It's a way to keep the peace and have people respect each other and be willing to grow together, instead of being divided and conquered (Remember the colonialists!!!). It's important to keep the colonial mindset away. Peace and bolstering unity is the only way forward. If a reliable partner who worked with you for hundreds of years can help you with that, trust them, instead of those that have been usurping your resources without benefit to the region for the past century.
Ethiopia and Somalia have long history of conflict and war based on religion and land. It is not easy for Turkey to settle down that enmity; in contrast, because of the crazy ambition of Ethiopia to annex part of the land and sea from Somalia, allow Somalia to make an agreement of 10 years with Turkey to train the Somali navy and also to protect Somali coastal areas in any other foreign country for the benefit of 30% of Maritain revenue. If Ethiopia tries to get access without the permission of Somalia, it means it violated the territorial integrity of Somalia, so Turkey has no position to welcome that oppression. If it does, the agreement is going to terminate automatically.

Somalia is not merely renting its waters; it’s betting on a transformative partnership that, if successful, will bring stability and prosperity in ways that seemed impossible just a decade ago.

I'm not surprised by this development. The relationship between the Turks and Somalis goes back centuries. Somalis have always viewed Turkiye and her predecessor, the Ottoman empire, favourably, and I'm absolutely certain that this relationship will benefit everyone involved in the long term.

Whats your take on the deal that Somaliland made?
@@stefanpieper3757 It's worse in every way, Somaliland is not recognized by anyone, so Ethiopia is taking advantage of this by only "pledging" to recognize them. They can basically withdraw from that promise at any time with very little consequence while they reap all the rewards of having sea access through Somaliland. Furthermore, in the long run, Somalia benefits from its deal with Turkey because its economy will improve by developing its offshore natural gas fields, enriching them immensely and benefiting them from rearmament and army training from a NATO country. It takes no genius to recognize that a full blockade of Somaliland will happen within the coming years and perhaps more optimistically a reconquest of the territory in a way similar to how the Azeris did with Nagorno-Karabakh.
Somaliland is part of Somalia. Ethiopia can use ports but own no sovereign port or sea in Somali soil

Dear Shirvan
Your regular reports on regions such as the horn of Africa and their geopolitical implications are rarely if ever shown on the mainstream media so thank you to you and your colleagues for keeping me informed on issues which can often have a global as well as regional impact.
I live and work in Portugal where the mainstream media is only focused on Portugal and the ongoing conflict between Israel, Iran and their proxies together with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia
Somaliland can give nothing stop misleading pple.Somalia will also recognize eithiopian regions seeking independence bse eithiopia is an empire.
LFG Somalia!!!
Even though my father is from Dire Dawa, Ethiopia and my mother Hargeisa, Somalilan(born in Aden, Yemen) and I live in MIAMI, USA!!!
Still pray this helps Somalia tremendously for I am ethnically Somali and was born in Hodan, Mogadishu!!!!
Bro, i'm Somali living in canada but want to leave this winter, how's Miami? I speak spanish very well and English of course but i'm not comfortable with american gun culture and all the other nonesense. What's it like living there as a horn african? rent? i would be working online so jobs are a non issue. just more culture, and standard of living. I'm also debating south america.
@@ibizawavey8630 it's amazing bro!
Beautiful weather, girls, plenty of opportunities.
Gun culture is big here but not to the extent the media makes it out to be(you never see it if you're living a normal life).
I've got aunts and cousins in Toronto and Calgary.
dude ur not Ethiopian u know it i know it so stick with u clan we dont need your support

I love Caspian Report, geopolitics is fascinating.
Well done. For a seventeen minute report, this is thorough and informative.
exelent video, keep up the good work :D
Thanks for the information and great maps for better understanding.
UAE sponsored propaganda against Turkiye 😅
Somalis won’t buy your cheap propaganda.
Its good to see a proper analysis on the channel, again.
This is not something we hear much about in America. Thank you for covering it!
Somalia is rich and viprant country.we have huge stocks, agriculture livestock and.minerals.we are the largest exporter of animals in the word.
One of the poorest countries in the world
You have potantial of becoming the Switserland of Africa. But never isolate yourself. Try to stick to Pan-Islamic ideals. And promote education the most. You should read the book: The country of white lillies authered by Grigory Petrov

When you hit rock-bottom as a country, like somalia, becoming a sattelite state is an improvement.
Sometimes you gotta hit rock bottom before you bounce back. Inshallah we will have a better future, especially given our immense resources.
You call 30% a sattelite state? Do you even know what that term means?
@@Handle0108Bouncing back by allying with a country, that is itself sinking??
Umm good luck, I guess lol

@@ThePolymerisstTurkey is one of the strongest militaries in the world, 2nd in nato only behind America.
I did not know that the Turkish Navy had a helicopter carrier. The vessel looks like it could be converted to handle short take-off aircraft as well.
it is not called helicopter carrier indeed. It is more like a Mini Aircraft carrier. F-35- B type planes can land and take-off on that
Drones carrier
It's a brand new vessel. The idea first was to station F-35Bs on it but after all that F-35 debacle now the plan is to turn it into a drone carrier. Baykar is developing the Bayraktar TB-3 for it to take-off from LHDs. The Kızılelma unmanned fighter jet is also expected to have that ability.
Turkey is a surprisingly advanced power. They definitely punch above their weight.
Drone carrier
Fascinating...I had no idea the extent of Turkish involvement in Somalia. Great video!
Another great documentary by CaspianReport targeting the geopolitics that is not getting much attention but is very much relevant. props
so much of the stock footage isn't even somalia
Lmao mfers supposed to risk being Al shabarbequeued just for some stock footage?
I am glad others noticed this too. I always see random African stock footage in videos about Somalia. It shows lack of effort and diminishes the legitimacy of the information in my eyes. But sadly, most viewers don’t know any better.
Turkey is a friend we will get stronger together
Turkey has an aircraft carrier group deployed in Somalia? I didn't know they had that until now.
It's pretty new, an amphibious assault carrier. Slow, top speed of 21 knots.
The ramp is because they planned on F-35Bs, but got booted from the program. So helicopters and drones.
Ye they have been ramping up military for past decades
Now they got proto 5th gen stealth jets
@@recoil53helicopter carrier is different than aircraft carrier.
Drones carrier
They are a country of madmen. They don't have priorities and just do something or the other globally.
Amazing reporting like always - thank you Shirvan and your team!
A lot of it is nonsense
I see your videos once year, and then I go and watch every video you made since last year.

You omitted that the Horn of Africa around Bosaso, called Puntland, is autonomous too, they just haven't declared independence like Somaliland. Both rabbit holes in their own right.
Puntland is still part of Somali Federal government and not completely autonomous like Somaliland.
Autonomous is different than Secessionist, also Puntland is a Semi-autonomous state which is totally understandable considering the frailty of the federal government to assist and provide.
@@hu6284 Nobody in Puntland denies the unity of Somalis, it’s just the federal government is weakened so people have to rule themselves. The blue flag is everywhere in Bosaso, it’s a symbolic of the unity among Somalis.
Puntland is autonomous not secessionist. I would know, I'm from Puntland. If the leader of Puntland declared secession he would be removed immediately from power.
I recently discovered that Somaliland is predominantly controlled by the Isaq clan and primarily governs the cities of Hargeisa and Buroa. Recently, they suffered a significant defeat at the hands of the neighboring Khaatumo province, resulting in the capture of over 500 of their soldiers, including their highest-ranking commander. This defeat was a key factor behind Somaliland's memorandum of understanding with Ethiopia. According to the MOU, Ethiopia agreed to train and equip Somaliland's soldiers and supplement their forces with Ethiopian soldiers, primarily Oromos.
Interestingly, many leaders of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab originate from the Isaq clan.
Respect somalis brothers and sisters from Kurdish region in türkiye.
Your videos are simply incredible, outstanding work!!
I am happy Turkey and Somalia are working together as they are strong than apart
Excelent as always! Warm greetings from Denmark!
In the south there is no disputed area. Somali owns the water and won case in Hague. Kenya was trying to steal that oil block
I was a turkish doctor doing electives in usa. ı did not have money so ı had to rent a house in a area that was %95 black. People told me that ı would be mugged in first day. They were right first day Some people asked money from me and i did not give in my neighbor came and asked me where ı was from ı told him ı am turkish. He told the people ı was black 😂 and we were brothers so if anybody harrassed me its as if they harrassed him. People started to greet me whenever they saw me on that street after that day. I will never forget that somalian brother. One time being Turkish benefited me 😂
Somalis never forget friends , especially if they did something for them when they needed them
Well Done. Very Informational and factual!
As a Somali, I understand that for Somalia, Turkey represents more than just military training or economic aid. Turkey offers a vision-one where Somalia can reclaim its dignity and influence on the global stage, starting with securing its extensive coastline. The maritime security pact is essential not only for defending against piracy but also for enabling Somalia to tap into its potential wealth-oil and gas reserves that could redefine its economic landscape. Somalia is not merely renting its waters; it’s betting on a transformative partnership that, if successful, will bring stability and prosperity in ways that seemed impossible just a decade ago.
As with all international relations, things only work as long as the country’s goals align. Which is fine, as this one seems very mutually beneficial. I just hope the best for Turkey long-term democracy. They have so much potential, but Erdogan worries me.

Well we’re all waiting for your video to explain the current situation if this is all nonsense. And it is important geopolitically, understanding the role that states plays on the international stage has repercussions on their relationship and power.
