    and the fact that jay never discriminates about what car he has on the show from race cars to classic american to classic British,classic Japanese,classic Italian, classic German to modern versions of all the same countries and more if it is interesting at least lol even if its one of his own cars he just is all around truly passionate about cars and the history and everything that goes with it... so glad he has this channel...

    • @ifanramadhana7833
      @ifanramadhana7833 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Tyler T Agreed, he has excellent column in Octane magazine and you can see that his passion is actually Pre War american cars and post war Briitish sports car. But he talks every subjects with passion and respect.

    • @tylert558
      @tylert558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      again taught me something new lol never knew he wrote a column in a magazine and i will definitely start checking it out and reading it.. and yes his level of respect for any car of any era is just his pure passion for cars and also yeah you can tell he loves his pre war era stuff look at his different Bugatti's and others along those lines....

    • @ifanramadhana7833
      @ifanramadhana7833 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tyler T He did! And one of the best column in the series (apart from Derek Bell) he talks from his love to steam engine, stories about how he was offered Lincoln Continental that was located only few miles from his garage that he is unaware of, the death of independent repairshop down to how some people behave when they lose Pebble Beach and how someone tried to make fake "Corvette Jay Leno edition" and offered in Barrett-Jackson auction.

    Hey Jay, just a little bit of info. My dad was in Japan after WW2, he was in transport and was a mechanic, had a workshop post war. His story about why Nissan was marketed as Datsun was because during the war the tanks and other japanese war machinery had NISSAN painted along the sides in large lettering. The company thought that America and Australia would react to the name so decided to go with Datsun.

      Cory Banning indeed, they're great. Maybe the OP's point was regarding the fact he's a more lived gent, as he mentioned in the video back in the 50s-60s people in the US didn't had the best impression of Japan, and so older generations tend not to appreciate what was made over there. Thankfully that's quite something typical of the [ignorant] minority, something Jay is not at all.

    Back in high school my friend had a Datsun with a straight 6 Dual over head cams . This was 1979 / 1980. It worked very well for a 4 door.
    The Datsun cars in the 1970's made a name because they were fast. This Skyline is awesome! Nothing better than a factory race car!

  • @shizuokaBLUES
    @shizuokaBLUES 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    The reason for the name Skyline is likely from the name of one of the more scenic roads in the country: The Hakone Skyline. It also extends a into the Izu Skyline, and is continued to be loved by drivers and weekend "racers" to this day. This makes sense to me but I don't know the true history myself.

      it would be my guess it's a bad repair, the back panel looks like it's got a lot of filler in it or its warped from a small accident and wasn't repaired before repainting, the pinch weld on the driver's side sill is bent too, guess it's hard to have such a rare car in absolutely immaculate condition, as they weren't all that expensive for a long time, so it probably wasn't worth a concourse restoration when it was done.

      raiden z how are they "destroying" it? By doing fun videos directed by them with entertaining and arguably tasteful content? Perhaps you prefer the "contribution" of commercial crap shows like the dudes from Gas Monkey Garage playing make pretend, those are surely the ones keeping anything alive, uh...
      On the bottom line, I can't understand your hate towards a channel with a friendly and entertaining approach to things, who have always tried to make their videos with a sort of motivational and DIY vibe on them, if motivating people to get into the car scene and work on their own cars is killing it, then I don't know how could someone possibly contribute to keep it alive.

    Well despite previous comments, Jay, I thought your guest, Chris Marion, was very knowledgeable and very much a true gentleman. Great video. I am from Australia and we have an affinity with early Japanese cars. The Skyline GTR is one of my favourites. I do prefer the coupe though. Great work from all involved, thanks yet again.

      Phillip Leeds he’s right, the origin of skyline name is debatable. Prince Motor Company never confirmed were the inspiration of the name came from.

    Regarding the Skyline name origin, it was named after the blue sky and white mountains of the Northern Alps that Shinichiro Sakurai (the father of the Skyline) saw while skiing in Shiga Kogen, Japan. I read this in an Australian motor magazine on the release of the C110 series Skyline where they interviewed Nissan's famous Shinichiro Sakurai.

    Like Jay said, really timeless and unassuming/understated design. This is one of the nicest original (mostly original) examples I've seen and that engine just sounds great revving to red-line. I didn't know so few were made in Japan, it's a shame there aren't more surviving examples which is why this is pulling crazy money these days.
