  • @amvibes9633
    @amvibes9633 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

Asking a One Piece fan to describe the series in a single sentence should be a illegal 🤣 that is just so hard to do.
The premise is fairly simple but what it really is, is like the entirety of human history and conflict wrapped up in a whimsical, political (racism/oppression/slavery/human trafficking), emotional, awful, tragic, hilarious, beautiful and heartfelt bubble, and the main cast is like the cast from Friends but instead of being confined to a couple of apartments, they are traversing an entire fictional planet's ocean in search of a grand treasure whilst encountering various islands with differing cultures and religions. It goes to places you would never expect from the start and does it all in such a charming and mature way.
You look back after 500-1000 episodes/chapters and wonder how the fck so much character writing was packed into everything while also building this huge world of lore and history.

Somebody already said it in the comments but yes watching "the breathtaking of One Piece" yt video would do a very good reaction.
This story is so great it's amazing ! One hour would be way too short for me to talk about One Piece if I had the pleasure to talk to newcomers like you just as the host did I would be there for hours and hours.
The story truly has it all and somehow still surprise us and makes us happy. I regulary belly laugh to the serie and cry rivers to it and even cry tears of joys something very hard to achieved. All the characters have smt unique to them even tho it's normal to forget their name you always think "oh yay it's that dude from that island or this character with this gimmick".
One of my favorite TH-camrs for OnePiece is the fantastic MelonTee who in my opinions do the best in depth character and theme analysis. Because One Piece actually use quite a lot of show don't tell on the way character respond to event with their trauma and experiences in mind, you know that when Nami give out money it's a really big deal because it's Nami. and then most characters have logical and fletched characters arc that spend across for some hundreds of episodes.
My favorite strawhats and character in general is Sanji and he is soo complex and you need to wait around the 800' to get all the pieces of who this : Bratty, perverted, chilvarus, self-sacrificial, the kiddest ever, deeply traumasised for two different reason, cook get it from and even then his character arc isn't done .... also ngl he's quite hot and cute to me XD😅
One thing also that I really apreciate in One Piece is the different dynamic and relationships between characters. Each person on the crew (and also outside of it) react and interact differently between eachover it's amazing. You have : Sanji and Zoro's rivalry, Robin's motherly bond to Chopper, Nami and Usopp camaderie, Brook and Sanji perverted antic, Luffy and Zoro sharing one braincell, Luffy Chopper and Usopp goofing off and in awe of Franky's inventions, Jimbei and Robin as being the most serious and mature, Robin scaring the shit out of Usopp, Usopp and Luffy's love for insects, Nami and Robin sisterly bond ect.... I could go on and on lol
    very fun stuff
Ima stop myself now 'cause it's getting late but yeah I you ever decide to show your progress through the series by doing reactions or reviews I wil gladly be there watching. If you ever met a OnePiece fan we crave to make other people enter the serie lol
One of us One of us One of us One of us One of us One of us ...XDXDXD

i personally think that the One Thing thats sets one piece apart not only from other shonen manga, but from all other adventure stories/stories in general, is its creativity (and as such, also the world building). the fact that Oda manages to keep all of the worldbuilding and all the characters straight in his head is WILD. because, tho he has editors and assistants who helps draw the manga (mostly the backgrounds, oda is still the only one drawing anything that moves he said), HE is still the only one actively actually writing this story. HE has to have it all in his head (and in his binders and binders and binders of notes), and that is literally inconceivable to me. HOW.

what i personally love so much about luffy is how simple he is. he doesnt lie, ever, (in fact he is HORRIBLE at lying), you know his motivations in chapter 1 and you know them in chapter 1127. im pretty sure that hes the only character (along with a few other straw hat characters bc theyre just so well written) that im 99,99% confident that i could predict what he'd do in any circumstance, just because he's such a consistently-written character. i feel like i UNDERSTAND him, like, as a person. also, it was such a good decision by Oda to never have him have any thought bubbles in the manga. like he doesnt do the "talks to himself in his head" thing, specifically because if he is thinking of something to say thats important, he WILL just say it. which makes the moments where he stays silent and serious THAT much more impactful. because then you know "oh oh somethings up". its SO GOOD.

To clarify something about The One Piece, the original episodes came out on a 4:3 aspect ratio, for old tube tvs, nowadays TVs are 16:9 for their aspect ratio, basically the first 300ish episodes are so old they have trouble running on modern television and look awkward so the reason for the update is partially so that new viewers can actually watch the beginning of the series

8:53 The term “Big 3” was a term coined for specifically the three largest long running anime/manga at the time; other manga could have gotten the title, but it didn’t quite fit all the criteria but also the fact that they defined an era. That is why I don’t think there is no modern day big three yet, and there probably won’t be for a while because modern shonen manga don’t fit that and definitely not 3 different manga.

The Big 3 is objective, you can't apply opinions on it, it's a title that was given to the 3 biggest shonen that kept Shonen Jump alive back then, so, it isn't even a title that means they were the best at the time

    very enjoyable talk!
but the OP nerd in me has to add some things
Oda developed the basic idea for One Piece when he was about 10(ish), iirc while watching the anime Vicky the Viking. He further worked on the idea until he started the weekly publication of the series in his early/mid-20's in '97, publishing some oneshots on the way (the stories that still tie-in to OP Katie mentioned). It wasn't uncommon that he overworked himself (20h days, sleeping at his desk etc) [overworking is sadly quite prevolent and a very serious problem in japan in general, but especially for mangaka, because of the stress of the weekly publication cycle (the manga Bakuman by the Deathnote duo gives at least some insight to that)] until a couple years ago, when he started to take a 1week break after every 3 chapters.
as others mentioned, The Breathtaking world of One Piece by Strawhat V was a great visual introduction into the world, before it was taken down. Luckily, there are reuploads, and Strawhat V has(or had) a download link in a community post on their channel.
Oda writes amazing characters and themes. he also is a master in using designquirks of a location or character from hundreds of chapters ago and tie them into the current story - so much so that it is hard if not impossible for maybe even him to know what is/was foreshadowing and what is just amazing ability to adapt. The Whole Cake arc Katie mentioned for example was originally supposed to be some kind of short side-quest of 25-30 chapters but developed into a full-on main-quest of 80ish chapters because his creative juices just kept flowing.
And since you guys talked about it, there are tons and tons of references, from really obvious to more obscure ones, to all kinds of fiction, popculture and history (the first real pirate reference happens as early as chapter 2)
If you want to try it out, through the MangaPlus app (by Shueisha, the japanese publisher) you can read every chapter once for free - and in english (for all their manga on their platform as well)
(apparently, yet again, I struggle to keep a comment in this context short - sorry for the rambling)

  • @Aviertje
    @Aviertje 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Listening to this as a fan I'm simultaneous grateful and also screaming at the expert. "Are there other groups of pirates?" "Well, for a while there was the Whitebeard pirates who were big..." I'm like... just give the overview of the power structure! Marines employed by the world government, which is an alliance of more than 170 nations. The World Government has given the equivalent to letters of marque to seven very dangerous pirates, who have agreed to by allies in exchange for not being hunted down anymore. And then there's also the four emperors, who are four major pirate crews that individually cannot fight the world government, but are their biggest headache because if they unite their powers, the World Government is going to struggle.. which is one of the primary motivators the WG had for employing those other pirates as it allowed them to use their resources against the big threats more effectively. There's so many layers of power and intrigue going on in One Piece, and all we get is "for a while, the Whitebeard pirates were pretty important"... gaaaah.
All that said, we will be expecting you two who haven't experienced One Piece to get into it now. You were far too enthusiastic about all the nonsense you were hearing to NOT check it out properly.

Many people , like myself, fell in love with OP throught the live action and ended up watching the anime or reading the manga. As a anime watcher (bc I prefer the multiple elements of music, direction, and voice acting besides the visuals coming together in storytelling as opposed to just manga panels) I find that what the guest said about the manga pacing applies to the anime as well aka biging it makes the pacing look not so bad. If you skip intro-outro and "previously on" sections, you're left with about 15 minutes of episode. If a repeated scene as filler really bothers you, you can skip that also, although I haven't usually had that much trouble with that.

8:33 3 things that for me set One Piece apart is the world building, the dedication to foreshadowing, and the treatment of side characters.
    1) The world building adds more story/character developments and often calls back to previous arcs as news of world events spread. One Piece has arguably some of the best worldbuilding in fiction.
    2) Oda's dedication to foreshadowing and callbacks to moments that didn't seem important at the time can and will literally occur hundreds of episodes in between.
    3) The side characters are treated with care by Oda. Seemingly pointless or comic relief characters are no exception to this and you will occasionally find yourself asking "why am I crying over you?". Also the side characters that assist Monkey D Luffy, in this case his crew, rarely fade into the background after their "big moment" and continue to play an important role in future arcs.

3:24 that's the old 4kids dub dialogue, haha!
the one piece is the treasure, not "in one piece," that's on the dub & old viz manga translation based on the 4kids dub, lol. Or, it's more "in one place" according to FUNimation XD

One Piece is like the combination of Saturday Morning Slapstick Comedy Cartoon, Pixar storytelling style, and old children fables into one world called One Piece verse

This is common misunderstanding, the big 3 are an era when one piece naruto and bleach dominated sales and discussion. the era ended, but a lot of people still try and recreate the dynamic of the era.

There are a little over 110 volumes (Books), each with an average of about 10-11 18=page long chapters each.
You guys asked about the genre of the story; I've always found that "high epic fantasy" on the scale of TLOTR in both epicness, hrichness and history of the world, and lore. Matter of fact, I personally think it is the greatest epic ever told.
Luffy is the embodiment of freedom and high EQ

I think the "fandom name" would just be The Strawhats like the name of the crew. Or maybe just "Nakama" which is a word they use in the show that means friend/colleague/loved one.

Don’t do One Pace. Yes it does cut stuff that the anime added, but it also cuts the good stuff that the anime added that actually enhances the manga content. One pace is not worth it. Pacing is an issue but if you fall in love with one piece anime, the pacing won’t feel like an issue. But I would recommend to wait for the one piece remake.

I prefer reading the One Piece-manga, because it is the DIRECT unfiltered work by the Master Eiichiro Oda himself!! In general I prefer reading mangas, as they directly reflect the creators work and intention!! In some rare cases the anime might improve on the manga, but animes are just too loud and hectic for me with the constant screaming and flashy animation, so I enjoy my manga in quietude with a cup of tea!! 😁👍

No spoilers but it shows the world and scenery of One Piece.
It’s incredible. Sadly they took down the original video for copyright but others have uploaded and reacted to it.

Any live-action of Avatar The Last Airbender is not recommended btw. Not unless you have actually watched the original show and are just watching the live-action for the memes😅 The success of One Piece live-action is super rare because rarely are the live-action adaptations of anime/manga done with any respect to the original work, or it's just done poorly overall. I personally have only seen 2 anime live-action adaptations that were done well where the fans actually enjoyed and respected them. Gintama and One Piece. There might have been more, but I have yet to see or hear of them.
