After consuming the live-action series, it took me slightly more than a month to watch the whole of the anime. That was a _lot_ of coffee. I _had_ seen snippets of the anime circa 98-99, it was shown on a big screen in a metal club I used to frequent in London. I also recently caught up to One Piece through binge reading the manga, and it really is such an amazing series. I almost immediately fell in love with the themes of hope and pursuing your dreams while I was being worn down by my life. I also love how you put so much emphasis on the characters as well, because One Piece's characters are almost never surface level, each and every straw hat has something going on beneath the surface, from Sanji feeling like he is inherently evil due to the blood in his veins to Franky subtly being able to not only make more battle frankies again, but also proudly display his post time skip body as one, almost every single character has so much to love about them beyond the surface of "Zoro is a cool stoic" or "Nami is a sly cat burglar"
And it's not just the main crew that gets that treatment. It's almost all of the even semi-relevant side characters and villains, too. They don't all get deep backstories (but a lot do), but they're almost all well fleshed out with clear motivations and dreams of their own.
This is why One Piece will forever hold a special place in my heart. The show highlights the often overlooked, simpler, and more positive aspects of life, showcasing hope and optimism. Out of the many shows I've watched, some of which you mentioned in your video, including TV shows, anime, and light novels... One Piece does this completely differently. It never resorts to being one dimensional, boring, or purely cartoonish.
Glad to know I'm not the only person who fell down the One Piece rabbit hole after watching the Live Action last year. I love the manga and anime just as much now. And I too, cried over a boat, and many more things since becoming obsessed with this stories. It is a special kind of joy to go on this adventure with Luffy and the Strawhats. To experience their growth, failures, triumphs, and devastation along side them. Such a wonderful story about friendship, love and liberation!
see THIS is why i love the OPLA. first of all its just a good show with really nice production, but mainly. as a LONG time one piece stan, i just want other people to fall in love with the same world and the same characters i feel in love with a long time ago. i just love it.
I’ve been a fan of One Piece since I was 16 (I’m currently 31), and it always warms my heart to see new people fall in love with the series over the years. Welcome to the crew, fellow nakama!
I SWEAR IT REWRITES YOUR BRAIN i watched the entire anime in less than a year and now i measure important life events based on what arc of one piece i was watching at the time. Anyway great video! extremely relatable
Welcome aboard!!! On OP themes: I would simply add that almost every one piece arc/saga has its own theme in addition to the "global" ones. Oppression, the perpetuation of violence, abusive parenthood, the consequences of giving up on dreams... (not associating the corresponding arcs to keep it spoiler free) as example of arc specific themes. Each one of them worth at least one video.
welcome to family, nakama !! glad you enjoyed our silly adventure there is a lot more to come since Vegapunk went crazy with lore in egghead, we all see how unhinged is Oda in his final saga. love to see chapters review and some theories coming from you !!
Woah. Very, very good editing for a 642 subscribers channel. Thankfully, this is a One Piece video, so you're gonna get a quick algorithm boost from One Piece fans. Welcome aboard! Hopefully the One Piece fandom has been nice to you in the year since you started and hope you enjoy your stay. Imo Egghead is such a friendly arc for the weekly grind, which is nice because a lot of OPLA fans would catch up on the week to week with maybe mid to late Egghead.
Lately I've been seeing a lot of videos similar to this and I love it!!! I've been watching OP for almost 20 years now and it's always great to see other people experience this for the first time.
Hey im there with you. Started with the live action and ended caught up in manga. Took 2 years. Still have to go back and look 4 clues. Thats never happened before. From live action to manga. Usually the other way around. . .
Amazing editing and overall quality for such a small channel. Truly amazing watching *the entirety of one piece* in just around a year. Def deserves more views. Actually sat through all those badly paced episodes and got to luffy red roc and law teleporting sequence and things like that.
I'm one of the apparently very very few people who didn't really care for OPLA (altho it did have some good aspects, like the casting choices were almost all amazing, the sets are amazing and yeah the music is great too) but I appreciate that it got so many people into One Piece so I can't complain Loved the video, loved the looming threat of One Piece addiction approaching like a horror movie monster lmao And yeah you've got really good points about why it's so lovable as a series
Welcome to the crew nakama! I love watching videos like this! I ALWAYS tell people to get to the walk to Arlong Park and they het hype about that, then they will LOVE this series. "Of course I will!" "I want to live!" And "Nothing happened." Are the best mpments in the series.
10:52 I’m usopp defender too 😂 😊 cuz, you know usopp dont deserved the hate he get… and I literally grew up with one piece… can you imagine how it consume my life…😅 and here I’m still feel hype about next chapter in Elbaf.
Welcome to the Fandom 👒😁 Now you can watch the movies and all the reactions till the new season(s) of opla and the new anime come out. Never gets boring in this fandom. I'm a fan since more than 20 years now, started with the anime, than at nothing happened, I started the manga 😊
As someone that has been caught up (with a few breaks) with One Piece for the past 20-ish years it's great seeing how OPLA is changing minds of people that said they would never watch. Its been a struggle being an advocate for so long 🤣
The Live Action really caught everyone's attention and finally gave One Piece the love it deserves. Not that I'm saying it's underrated or something, but a lot of people, and I mean a lot, are talking ish about One Piece complaining that it's too long or it's too goofy to watch but the same people who said those things are now praising One Piece and I'm loving it! Tbh, at first, I was hesitant about starting this series myself because of how long it is but now I can't get enough and genuinely wishing this series would never end. It has a lot. From racism to corruption to goofiness and emotional weight. Not to mention, the insane world building and the depth of the story. At first, you may think that it's just about pirates racing for some treasure but as you go on, you'll realize that it's not just talking about a treasure but a lot of things. Oda is really a great writer. He'll be immortalized in the manga/anime history as one of the greatest Mangakas of all time.
I legitimately cannot count how many times and how many people have said they won't watch or care about One Piece just to start out of curiosity and get so fucking hooked that they eventually catch up and rank it as one of their top 3 anime/ manga of all time. One Piece is just on another level compared to all other anime and manga.
Welcome to the crew, Nakam, I am an old fan, and I see more and more people join the adventure, and it makes my love for this series grow more and more... it is truly a unique and wonderful story that is one of those stories that comes along every few centuries.
I had the EXACT same journey, however I started OPLA in August this year and caught up to the manga two months later in October. FULL investment, these two months felt like a fever dream. I absolutely loved it.
welcome aboard. ive been with this series for 20 years since 4KIDS. little did i know that, in a 2010 spring break binge of Water 7/Enies & current Impel Down at the time - that my life at 17 yrs would completely change in a flash with that ever-iconic Jet Gatling Gun in the former & the Emporio Ivankov episodes in the latter. feel like i found a latch as to who i am from that point forward. though, i still have tons of work to do
Welcome to the adventure, nakama! You really boarded the Sunny at the best possible time, when the ending is close (or, you know, close for One Piece). So happy you decided to take the plunge and fell in love with this story. Here's to finding the One Piece together!
As a child/teen in Germany, One Piece was annoying and weird bc of the german VA. Now 20 years later when the OPLA was released we decided to watch it, bc there was nothing interesting on Netflix anymore to watch 😂 We were immediately hooked and binge watched the LA. In just 6 months we caught up with the anime and now we are great fans of OP! 😅 No regrets!!
i watched the live action with my roommate who's a long time fan, and i felt all the same things as you did. took me 4 months to read the entirety of the manga and now it's been over a year and the obsession and love i feel for the goofy yet poignant pirate show has not faded. also sonya belousova was my top artist on spotify this year. the opla soundtrack goes hard
One Piece kept me going as something to stay up late and keep coming back to all through May of 2023 to May of 2024, I wish I could watch it all again for the first time, I kind of scratch that itch by following two TH-camr I really go through the story and go through all the same motions I did
I’ve been a fan of One Piece for over a decade and similar to yourself what kept me hooked wasn’t the story but it was the characters and the comedy. I was on an adventure just like Luffy and the gang and wanted to see what shenanigans they would get into next. All these years and I still enjoy One Piece as much as I did when I was younger
adore it. that's my journey right there. who would have though i'd watch 1000+ episode in a year and that it will prolly consume me for the rest of years to come too
Huge agree on Western media being a bit more grey or dark than OP or Japanese media in general. My guess on why this is probably because the lighter stuff in Western media is not in TV and theater anymore, but in Twitch or TH-cam instead, with social media, streamers, and content creators (and even then its kinda' bad and full of hate in some social media like Twitter). Tbh, its probably because of my content feed being split 50-50 between Anglophone content and JP content why I'm not in as deep of a hole mentally as the other users of said social media who fear monger, subsist on drama and rage bait, and try to wage cancellations on anything. We need more hopecore, absurdist, goofy, wacky, not so serious, and feel good shows and media in general to combat the amount of anger and dissatisfaction that seems to be present online and to help people cope with their many problems irl.
I don't really remember a definite reason why I started watching one piece almost two years back, other than that I guess the curiosity finally got to me. But I never imagined how it would consume my entire life for months and become one of my absolute favorite stories of all time. I know it's a hard thing to convince people to start because of its size, but there's a pretty high chance most people will find themselves begging for more once they're caught up, as miraculous as that might sound!
And that is the best thing about OPLA. Depending on each one's opinion, it may have some problems, but no one can deny that it did it's job in taking OP to the mainstream and bringing in a lot of new fans. Welcome Nakama!!
Welcome Nakama. I’ve been reading for ten years now , almost eleven . As much as I feel like a hipster , and want people to know I was privy to the greatness before it really blew up in the west, It’s awesome to see new fans finding the value and … wonder of one piece . I sound like a cultist and I’m fine with that. Welcome to the crew! As much as I dread the day one piece ends , I think we are all waiting to find out everything we possibly can . ❤👒
I caught up in 2020 and it has taken over my life ever since. Even now I still love watching other people catch up and realize that it is amazing. Welcome to the fandom!
Oda-sensei updated us recently about the opla season 2 production, he said that the attention to detail and the passion is incredible, it'll surpass season 1! I'm so excited to see the live action crew again and of course the new anime adaption of the east blue saga😍
The same thing for me right after the OPLA, I watched anime from September of 2023 to February of this year. It’s a wild ride finishing it but worth it and still not finish. I’m watching again the Impel Down to Marine Ford.
As someone who edits in the same style of the first 4 minutes. And is sticking to it. I feel ya. Welcome to loving One Piece tho! I went from LotR to One Piece due to world building/tears, so I can relate.
I have almost the exact same story as you, except I gave up on the anime pacing and started over with the manga instead. I recommend going back and reading the whole manga. I just caught up so now I'm going to continue with the anime. At least I know what will happen next as I'm suffering through the pacing, so I don't have to click Next episode to find out what happens. (This tanked my university studies, obsessively watching anime instead of studying LOL)
First time that I'm watching this channel, but I like this Guy!! 😎😎 Specially having almost the same backstory of how we watch OPLA!! XD In my case, I was in twitter one day and I saw the 3 different versions of Luffy walking with the Guys to arlong saying that it was "CINEMA", it got me curios and...I ignored it a pretty WHILE on till reaching THAT exact moment and...I was HOOCKED!! Then watching the WHOLE anime on till the point of being at day with the anime...in 3 months I speed run the anime :v Right now, I didn't catched up with the manga...I tried at the beggining of the year since the anime was on a break and...for some reason my brain couln't process NOTHING on till the point of only seeing the art and not wanting to read...so now I'm waiting for the anime...yeah...what a way of not having new content for myself... :'D :'v
I've already watched the anime all the way through 3 times qnd ready to start the 4th trip down One Piece lane!!!! I LOVE the English voiced anime the most!!! The actors are great in the live action, BUT they do things their own way and are just not enough like the beloved characters!!! I LOVE Zoros gruff, and hidden caring nature, Sanji's gentlemanly, goofy, yet seriously protective nature, Luffy being a big kid but so loyal to his friend's, Chopper's adorable, timid, and smart nature, Robin's intelligence and wit, but the tragic little girl inside, Brook's positive and fun outlook on life despite losing so much, and his talent being so under rated, Franky being dumped as a kid yet not letting it get in his way, Usopp scaredy cat yet finds his courage at the moments he's needed, Nami's tragic history that forms who she is that makes her kinda bratty... and Jimbei the loyal strong and wise one who reasons when the rest don't and holds them together!
Bro i went into onepiece not knowing what it was about or how long it was, i watched all of pokemon, i went through naruto to the end, watched DragonBall a bit then got bored, then onepiece. And onepiece stuck around ever since. hell i even watched the bellamy fight before i even tried watching onepiece, like back when i was still watching naruto. (Naruto got me into ramen btw) *onepiece got my sense of adventure, fantasy, and world realism.* Its my adhd dream frfr, and onepiece fan letter not giving thier characters any names for ppl to create thier own is FANTASTIC. I call the big brother Yuuto. (Brave and person) anyway yeah, onepiece is just THAT franchise. hell i dont even mind the filler cause its just THAT good. Also can we talk about doffys war lines for a minute, in the manga (to me anyway) it seems ok or good enough, but the anime version is such a better delivery and so much better in general, like, "JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL?! Well of course it will, Whoever wins the War, *becomes* Justice." Like that hits *so much* harder. Even the lines for the kids too "kids who've never known peace, and kids who've never known War, have completely different values." Like tell me that doesn't hit hard.
Beautiful video 😊 It very clear that you love One Piece so much. And the fact that all of this happened in 1 year ✨ Personally I started watching/reading One Piece when the anime was first aired in Germany in 2003. Back then it was just one of the many animes I watched. And I didn't know how much of a big deal One Piece would be in the future. When there was a break in the german dub I started watching the Japanese original (& I'm so glad I did this). I don't know when exactly I realized that One Piece is far more than it seems in the first place. Now I'm 33, still enjoying the world of One Piece ❤
In my mother tongue, Opla ! (Hopla in fact) Is the way we say something in between "yay" and "let's go !" Makes perfect sense to me then, that Opla launched you in such a journey.
Taking a sabbatical to process Enies Lobbies is so real. But after 483 I literally packed up to camp over the weekend and process my thoughts total solitude.
I'm surprised you didn't call out cheering when Robin gave Spandam the full chiropractor treatment. Although it isn't an outright battle move, I think that one even eclipses the color-wiping Charlos punch for me. I'd love to recommend this video to a friend of mine, but there's just a few too many spoilers that I don't feel comfortable showing it to her..! For a story where some of the gut punches hit so unexpected and so damn hard, I don't want to spoil any hint of them ahead of time. Also: one of us, one of us! 🙂

Each one of them worth at least one video.
welcome to family, nakama !!
glad you enjoyed our silly adventure
there is a lot more to come since Vegapunk went crazy with lore in egghead, we all see how unhinged is Oda in his final saga.
love to see chapters review and some theories coming from you !!
Man I'm high so I don't understand if it's because I'm high or else but till 4:00 I died laughing. Thanks for this getaway to Laughtale
Don't worry next year will get One piece anime remake, with faster pacing and no annoying sensorship.
Welcome to the one piece fandom fam
Welcome to OP Family Bro ❤️🔥😎❤️🔥
Usually the other way around. . .
@@t.r.hughes4167 The OPLA domino effect is real 😂
Amazing editing and overall quality for such a small channel. Truly amazing watching *the entirety of one piece* in just around a year. Def deserves more views. Actually sat through all those badly paced episodes and got to luffy red roc and law teleporting sequence and things like that.
I'm one of the apparently very very few people who didn't really care for OPLA (altho it did have some good aspects, like the casting choices were almost all amazing, the sets are amazing and yeah the music is great too) but I appreciate that it got so many people into One Piece so I can't complain
Loved the video, loved the looming threat of One Piece addiction approaching like a horror movie monster lmao
And yeah you've got really good points about why it's so lovable as a series
As a lifelong One Piece fan I am happy to hear you joined the fandom
Welcome to the crew nakama! I love watching videos like this! I ALWAYS tell people to get to the walk to Arlong Park and they het hype about that, then they will LOVE this series. "Of course I will!" "I want to live!" And "Nothing happened." Are the best mpments in the series.
10:52 I’m usopp defender too 😂 😊 cuz, you know usopp dont deserved the hate he get… and I literally grew up with one piece… can you imagine how it consume my life…😅 and here I’m still feel hype about next chapter in Elbaf.
Welcome to the Fandom 👒😁
Now you can watch the movies and all the reactions till the new season(s) of opla and the new anime come out.
Its been a struggle being an advocate for so long 🤣
This is literally the story of how I became a one piece fan as well! But I only started reading the manga recently. Im currently at drum island.
It’s so fun seeing someone whose introduction and subsequent reaction to One Piece mirrors my own almost exactly.
Literally had the same journey as you ❤
Never to late to join the " I cried over a 2D fantasy boat" . I cried over it 20 years ago but still happy that I'm not the only one 20 years later
I had this same experience back then in high school when I started One piece and currently having that same experience with Dandadan
Yep i was also one of those people who said i wouldn't watch one piece but here i am loving it
I legitimately cannot count how many times and how many people have said they won't watch or care about One Piece just to start out of curiosity and get so fucking hooked that they eventually catch up and rank it as one of their top 3 anime/ manga of all time. One Piece is just on another level compared to all other anime and manga.
Welcome to the crew! I caught up right before opla. Its so much fun watching everyone else fall in love too.
Welcome and it’s one of the best rabbit holes to fall into. I’m 46 and fell down the whole in 2019 and it just keeps going
Great video, been with one piece since the mid 2000s and it's always awesome seeing new people join this wonderful story's community
Welcome to the crew, Nakam, I am an old fan, and I see more and more people join the adventure, and it makes my love for this series grow more and more... it is truly a unique and wonderful story that is one of those stories that comes along every few centuries.
Congrats on catching up my dude. Mad respect for starting and sticking to the journey.
I don't care how you got here, you're here now and that's what matters.
2:48 MORE!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Welcome to the fandom... we are!
Maybe my favorite brief synapsis of the story as a whole so far. Glad to have you aboard
Welcome Nakama. I’ve been reading for ten years now , almost eleven .
As much as I feel like a hipster , and want people to know I was privy to the greatness before it really blew up in the west,
It’s awesome to see new fans finding the value and … wonder of one piece .
Love it. Welcome to the Crew Nakama!❤️
You’re a madlad. Congratulations on your journey. You are now nakama
I’m watching again the Impel Down to Marine Ford.
the live action def hooked me, and i’m 939 episodes into the animated series. so good!
(This tanked my university studies, obsessively watching anime instead of studying LOL)
welcome to the team!
First time that I'm watching this channel, but I like this Guy!!
😎😎
Specially having almost the same backstory of how we watch OPLA!!
XD
In my case, I was in twitter one day and I saw the 3 different versions of Luffy walking with the Guys to arlong saying that it was "CINEMA", it got me curios and...I ignored it a pretty WHILE on till reaching THAT exact moment and...I was HOOCKED!!
Then watching the WHOLE anime on till the point of being at day with the anime...in 3 months I speed run the anime :v
Right now, I didn't catched up with the manga...I tried at the beggining of the year since the anime was on a break and...for some reason my brain couln't process NOTHING on till the point of only seeing the art and not wanting to read...so now I'm waiting for the anime...yeah...what a way of not having new content for myself...
:'D
:'v
The new chapter 🔥🔥🔥
One Piece is the greatest story ever told by man or god. Awesome video always a pleasure to have new nakama on the journey!
I absolutely agree !
I don't even know this guy, this is his first video that I see, but when he said he was even on the manga, I cheered
Beautiful video 😊 It very clear that you love One Piece so much. And the fact that all of this happened in 1 year ✨
Personally I started watching/reading One Piece when the anime was first aired in Germany in 2003.
Exactly what happened to me, and here I am, rewatching the series for the second time.
Gooooottttt eeeeemmmmmmmm’ lol glad to have you on the crew brother
Congrats on catching up, Nakama! 😊
There’s also the manga cover stories that the anime didn’t animate, my favorite being the one about what Enel did after he was defeated by Luffy.
Damn bro's in the one piece waiting room with us within a year. Let's gooo
the very foundation of my life is derived from OP, before that I was a unsorted but now I know what really matters, it goes back in 2017
In my mother tongue, Opla ! (Hopla in fact) Is the way we say something in between "yay" and "let's go !"
Makes perfect sense to me then, that Opla launched you in such a journey.
"So, what next?" is what kept us going and honestly it doesn't feel that long
Taking a sabbatical to process Enies Lobbies is so real. But after 483 I literally packed up to camp over the weekend and process my thoughts total solitude.
KING of Shonen!!
@@westsidebear and KING of the pirates! 🏴☠️
Great video, man. Glad to have a new Nakama on this journey
Fantastic video, but please man fix the echo/reverb, it was driving me insane
One piece has the best "hero confess to save the day" moments because we have spent so much time getting to know and care about the side characters
Welcome to the crew!
Hats off to you congratulations welcome to The Grand Line
Welcome to the family 🙌
Great video
