Gotta admit, I was skeptical that a soft-sided bag would keep the bike safe, even with padding in places. I guess if it didn't work, Brompton wouldn't sell it. That is so cool that you can bring your own conveyance - it's like being able to sleep in your own bed on vacation, which makes no sense, but you know what I mean!
It certainly has opened up a new world for us. I might have overdone it on the padding because the airline didn't throw the bag on the conveyor belt belt knowing that it was a bike but put the bag aside with the musical instruments.
Thanks! It's the Apple Air Tag that works with Bluetooth on your iPhone. It can precisely track all your items anywhere in the world. We find it very useful and easy to use. Thank you for watching!
I do hate the original brackets for that reason! They may be lost, so I changed to lighter rings, with an end stop, preventing them to be taken out! I also have a Vincita padded pouch for the folding pedal. It is absurdly expensive!!! I have an B&W luggage box for my Brompton. It looks like ordinary luggage, with US locks and a band around. But it is an extra bag, of course. Finn. Denmark
I didn't know you could do that with the brackets. I did do some research on other 'Brompton' traveling bags and it came down to weight for me. Thanks for passing on your knowledge.
Apple Betty is earning flyer miles 😂😊! Thanks for showing all the realities of your packing her up lol. In the end, it all worked out 👍🏽! Looking forward to you and Cheryl’s adventures 😊😊😊
I got the pool noodles at the dollar store, it is probably a seasonal item so possible if you went to a pool store you could find them?. But it doesn't have to pool noodles, foam is absolutely fine too. Thanks for watching!
I bought it from the Brompton website for $229, but you can get a cheaper bag in other places but they weigh more. us.brompton.com/p/615/brompton-padded-travel-bag-with-4-rollers The insulation I bought at a dollar store in the pool section, but you could get them at the general department store now.
This suitcase did not have a lock. When I got it back it had a pamphlet inside saying that the baggage had been inspected. I have put locks on other suitcases and TSA has just cut them right off to inspect, unfortunately. The only protection I had was an apple Airtag locator, at least in my mind.
Yes, tell them it is a bike and they will not charge you more. Also, being sports equipment they will load it up on a special cart with other sports equipment and musical instruments too.
Even if your plane had big enough overhead bin, don't you get trouble bringing it as a carry-on due to its weight and size? A folded Brompton looks obviously oversized and overweight than a regular carry-on.
YES! It’s a little dicey, but it can be done. Beth in the video has not yet had an instance where she has been told, “no.” It is always possible, but so far, so good. Here’s how she did it. She removed the saddle and packed the saddle, elsewhere, like a backpack or suitcase. You might be able to leave the saddle on the bike, but that makes it a bit uncertain when the bike passes through the X-ray machine size-wise. Then Brompton was put into a Dimpa bag from IKEA. You should use lots of noodles or pipe insulation and a tennis ball to cover the seat post. I have also seen people just bring it on as is with no bag. They put straps around the bike to hold it together. Just make sure you are on a 737 plane or larger. But if you want to be safe just check in the Brompton instead.
The weight of a Brompton as a carry on isn't a factor. Yes it will fit in many of the newest planes but technically it's a couple inches too long. If your airline has a sizer for carry-ons at the gate don't be surprised if you don't get asked to gate check it. So be prepared to reason that if it gets lost your trip will be ruined and it's hand made in England so it's hard to replace.
If you are flying to Russia, you better get the MAX insurance cuz you prolly ain't seeing your Brompton ever again. Pootin wants one....not to ride, just to make your life difficult....

Thank you for the video. Can I put any other accessories in the same bag or just the bike? I guess I need to call their airline for that info?
Oh, yes. The helmet and some clothing. You can cram more stuff inside.
Hi! Great video. Could you please share more information about the air tag you used to track your bag? Thank you!

Hello, did you release the air in your tires when you pack your brompton on the case?
Yes, just a little to be on the safe side.
I did show it in this video: th-cam.com/video/l3RwAqYpa34/w-d-xo.html

Thanks for the video, where would be the best place to purchase padding like shown in 1:56?

@@RideandShineBicyclingthanks for the tip! will try my luck at a pool store haha
Is it considered oversized baggage? Any surcharge?
It was just considered a regular checked bag.
Where you get this bag and how much is this bag? Where do u buy the insulation?

1:03 crazy to watch her take a knife like that and start slashing directly towards her hand. That's an ER visit waiting to happen.
Oh Gosh, you could be right..Hopefully, people have more sense. Thanks for the comment
What about if you have the B&W suitcase but the one without TSA locks?

what is the name of the suitcase used to carry the bike?
Brompton Padded Travel Bag w/ 4 rollers
Also when you check in for the airline and they ask you what is in the bag and you said a bike…do they charge you extra for it?
Yes, tell them it is a bike and they will not charge you more. Also, being sports equipment they will load it up on a special cart with other sports equipment and musical instruments too.
