You know what’s worse...when you are Mexican but have a English name and they try and turn it into a Spanish name cause no Mexican can be named Alexandra it has to be Alejandra *I had a white teacher call me Alexandra the first day of school, then the next day proceeds to say Alejandra.. I was pissed!! Basically he thought I was white but once he saw I was Hispanic he switched up* also I know it derives from Greece but for people that speak English it’s (Alex-an-dra)
Mine is similar except my name is Diana so everyone in my family uses the spanish version it has the same spelling but it gets harder to pronounce (my 4 year old cousin could not pronounce it correctly despite being able to pronounce everyone elses name) so basically I would say 0-7 will not be able to prounouce my name in english or spanish
I'm not Latina, I'm black. But I subscribed to this channel a long time ago, because I love the content. I love the unapologetic pride that is taken in Latino/Hispanic culture, and I am learning some good things from this channel. It's so fun and free lol. This video and the video where Gadiel is speaking about NOT having to speak Spanish around others who don't speak Spanish (he spazzed, G. I loved it!!) are my two favorites. Y'all keep it up. My name is just boring 'ol Krystal, but I will take pride in it from now on 😊.
Clarissa I don't take offense at all! I actually considered that while typing this out. I'm very aware of Afro-Latinos/Latinas, but I was just giving my own perspective. I live in America, and as far as I know, my family comes directly from Africa to the U.S. (by way of the slave trade). I know in other countries, there is a very deep African presence in cultures where Spanish is spoken and I love it. Where people who look exactly like me, speak Spanish only. I think it's dope and people should know more about it. That's part of why I love this channel and am subscribed 😊.
Queen D it’s totally the same idea though! Through the slave trade many Africans were taken to the Caribbean and South America. It’s just that now that many are now coming to live to the US so there’s an added layer of immigration and language and cultural barriers!
My name is Chiquita but I'm not latino, I'm black so people are always thrown off by that lol. Growing up and still to this day a lot of people mispronounce it..but I always feel prideful when I hear someone of Latin descent say it so beautifully!
I was a receptionist and glanced at the name "Diamantae" really fast and said it in Spanish and up comes a black girl, "Ooh she said it in Spanish!". I was confused for a moment
C Talley Girl, I have the exact opposite. My name is Tashima and I'm a very fair Puerto Rican. Can't tell you how many double takes I get...lol. I love it.
Your name is so pretty, girl! We call our girlfriends Chiquitas as a tender way to call them. I'm mexican and men also call women "chiquita" when they're involved, de cariño.
Once I was at Universal Orlando and a employee had a name tag written "Vida". I looked at It and said "oh, what a beautiful name!!!" and she asked If I spoke Spanish to which I explained to her that I spoke Portuguese and understood Spanish, but It meant Life in both languages.
So, you have no accent and can pronounce all English names correctly? I never understood why Americans never comment about other’s accents, but others always comment on Americans. Apparently Americans have to put up with everything that gets thrown at them. By the way, I’m Hispanic and a hell of a lot older than you people and never had any problems growing up in the USA.
My name is Pedro, which I hate because my terrible dad named me after himself, but I kind of love because if I ever run for President, I already have a campaign slogan...
It’s always difficult travelling abroad w my Spanish name & Asian features. I often get confused & curious looks when people learn my name, then I gotta give a history lesson on Spanish colonisation in the Philippines 😅
Clara Cabrera I feel you... but I lived in the Philippines for 2 years and I had to be constantly telling everybody how Spain and Mexico are not the only two countries that speak Spanish in the world and that Honduras is in Central America, but does not mean that Trump is my president... America is the name of a whole continent, not to be confused with the country United States of America. Haha...
People used to think I was Philippine, even a Philippine thought I was Philippine lol. Idk why, i don't see it? I'm Mexican... I do want to take the dna test, maybe i do have some Philippine in me lol
It's same for me, my parents are from the carribean but I look Indian/Pakistani (because of immigration after the abolition of slavery), my name is English but I'm actually French 🤷🏾♀️
Spanish name + Asian Features dosen't equal indigenous Filipino either. The Aeta of Negros lost thier land to Malayasian Invasion and Spanish Inquistion. True Filipinos look like Melanesians.
Rodriguez: from old german Hrodric, through latin Rodericus. The name existed in old english as Hrēðrīc e Hroðricus. It probably arrived in Spain through the Visigoths.
Puertoricans have this thing where they LOVE creating new names (and not particularly short names, hence mine JAJAJA). So my mom decided to fuse her name (Denisse) with my dad's name (Carlos) and created Karenise. But my mom was like : "Eh too short, it needs to sound poetic." so they added "del Mar" as my second name. It's still a struggle to even just order food, people always find weirder and harder versions of my name, so I just say "Karen" whenever I go to a restaurant. Sometimes I just get annoyed and tell them to call me by my nickname, Kary. But I love my name, so even if I constantly correct people and some just don't get it, I would never change it. :)
Dominicans do it too lol. I didn't have that happen tp me. But my friend named her daughter a mix of her name and the dad's name (Jeisaura) my friend is Laura and the dad is jessie
You have a beautiful name. My mama told me that my name was made up by one of her students my dad's name is Kelvin and mine is Kelvianna my middle name is Laterria and I found out that a classmate shares my middle name as her first but people pronounce it as Latearia she spells it LaTerria
Karenise del Mar same ! my moms best friend is zulimey and she wanted to name me after her, so she fused the name her name and got Zujey. Which is my middle name
My poor boys.... we live an EXTREMELY small town... they're 1/2 Hispanic with names of Julian (middle) and Ernesto... and look like average white boys! Its so funny when I call them by their names or speak Spanish to them... the looks we get!!
Kelly Salinas my sister has 6 sons..my nephew's named:. Adam,Daniel, Christian,Brandon,Jason, Gabriel. Geeze!!! Oh well..I got one daughter, *Jessica* 😊
@@ErnestoMedinaMusic1 the kicker of it... I call them my Power Puff kids; my daughter had black hair, 1st son had blond, and last one a red head! ALL BY SAME HISPANIC DAD!!!
Kelly Salinas that because Hispanic isn’t a race, Hispanics are just Europeans mixed with natives, but there’s Hispanics with more European ancestry than native.
Whomever has had difficulties pronouncing CARLITOS should REALLY just climb back in their mothers wombs and start over....like REALLY??? SMDH! I on the other hand have always struggled with people pronouncing my first and/or last name...
I wanna know why they can't say Paola right, because although some of the names in the video I as an English-speaker haven't come across before (but come on it's not hard to get a name right, just listen and repeat it back or ask for clarification) but Paola seems super easy to me
@@vickyc2573 its because thats the how the typical name is pronunced. Its usually (PAH Oh La) but she pronunces it (Pow LAH) unless there is an accent on the second A people wouldnt think to read it that way. Its like shawn when its spelled like sean its easy to pronunce but if you didnt know that it was pronunced that way you wouldnt read it right, youd say Sheen instead.
@@vianjelos it's a very weird way of pronouncing Paola, it's like they intended to name her Paula (something like PAoo-lah) but wanted to spell it as Paola.
I agree, at work there was a client by the name of (Milagros) and the white people were so rude about it. I'm not Latino I'm African but I was the only person who could pronounce the name. The white people were like "OMG how do even say that name?" It's not really that hard wow, and white people wonder why minorities don't like them sometimes.
I am from Brazil, and when I lived in Switzerland, everyone at school called me Izabela Olivaira, or in French Isabelle, but my name is Isabella Oliveira, it was exalting to correct all the time.
Lol I have that same problem! Spelling and all. I've had some one say quiznos, spell it keyonez. And every where I go they right away start to write it down with a k im like omg lol
This is so embarrassing as an American that they have to go through this when their names aren’t hard to pronounce. It’s just laziness on the part of the audience.
My first name isn’t the standard that you hear in telenovelas, Elena it’s with an i and even latinos don’t pronounce my name right. I used to hate my name as a kid but it is half my culture. My father gave me the name Ilena with that specific spelling because he was a Cuban refugee who was rescued by a boat that had a nurse on it with that name. She nursed him back to health from these stinging water creatures that had attacked him. I stopped correcting people who said my name wrong because they would be so highly offended, mostly the Latino community but it’s my name and it has meaning so they should respect it.
I have a friend named Lleli and I was the only one of her friends that could pronounce her first name. She goes by Lupita I love her name. I realized in school she would spell it Ileli I thought that wasn't right everyone should be proud of their name because we are all unique
My name isn’t 2 “L’s” it’s i-l-e-n-a Even computers can’t spell it right right since capital “i” looks just like lowercase “L” Which I have had people call me Llena and I respond yeah I may be thick but my name isn’t the Spanish translation of “full” or they pronounce it like Llama the animal.
My name is ileana and I have the same problem. I end up not capitalizing the I or else people think it's two LL's and call me LLeana. But LLama is definetly worse lol
OMG STORY OF MY MF LIFE!!! So I’m puertorriqueña and my mom named me Taysha. It’s kinda common in the black culture but it’s not pronounced how it’s spelt or like how you see it. Because it’s written in Spanish the “y” is pronounced like in “i” so it’s Ta•e•cha or *sha if you wanna Americanize it😂 so i definitely feel you Eli. Already knew who’s name was called out before mine so I would already say “here” to avoid the butcher ness 🙄🤦🏻♀️
My name is Simar, pronounced in Spanish “Si” as in yes and “mar” as in ocean. It’s a combination of my parents’ names which are Simon and Margarita. Growing up, I was not ashamed of my name but kind of embarrassed that I didn’t fit in with the Jessica’s and the Ashley’s and all the other girls who had common, easy to pronounce names. I remember being jealous of those girls names because whenever I watched a movie or a show they could relate to the characters who had their names and there’s no way I could ever do that. And I can totally relate to Eli saying that when the teacher was role calling in class whenever they would get to my name they would kind of pause and be like “Si-sa-...” and I’m like yeah that’s me 🙄 and that was in El Paso, TX where I grew up, where everyone I went to school with was Mexican like me! So when we moved to a smaller town 5 years ago where it’s about half Latinos, half Caucasians, I struggled waaaay more. I got so tired of correcting people that eventually I started saying my name the “Americanized” way. It even got to the point that when I would go to a restaurant or coffee place like Starbucks where they ask for your name with your order, I would give them one of my friends names that is more common, cuz I wanted to avoid the, “I’m sorry, what was your name?” And me having to repeat it and then spell it. But recently, I’ve come to the realization that my name is unique to myself. It has a story behind it and I’ve never met anyone who shares my name (not that they don’t exist, I’ve just never met them). I don’t mind if you can’t pronounce it and say it differently, but now when I introduce myself I always say it the right way, instead of changing it to try and make it easy on the other person. I’m proud of my name now. It makes me think of my parents every time I say it and it’s definitely a great conversation starter! 😉
Simar Flores I’m Dominican but my name is Kaylin ( my mother pronounces it as Kay-leen) and she told me that she almost named me Kaylinda (Que linda) because she said that’s the first thing that came to mind when I was born 😭 it was so creative I couldn’t even be mad at her haha
Marisol, or to others who can't pronounce it: moodysol, merisal, or madysal. I go simply by Sol now which is easier for people but sometimes I'm still called sal, sor, so, and especially sone. It's only three letters haha but I'm okay with it there are some names I have a hard time pronouncing so I can have mercy.
I see we have the first first name 😂 and I agree so much! Only three of my friends can pronounce my name without butchering it or me having to correct them. I think some of the greatest mispronunciations I’ve heard are: Mah-re-sol Mar-i-sel and Mari-so 😂🤦♀️
Ximena es una forma antigua del nombre Jimena y aunque se escriben diferente se pronuncian igual, como México = Méjico, Oaxaca = Oajaca, Téxas = Tejas...

I totally relate to this! My name is Viviana, and I say it in a way that expresses my Latinx background. Most people will call me Vivian or just not say it. I grew up in Miami so I didn't really experience the struggle until I moved away for college. Some friends would ask me why I make it difficult for people when I introduce myself and say my name with a Hispanic accent, and I never understood this. My name is my name, and there is a way to say it. I love my name for many personal reasons, so why should I change the way it sounds?

I’ve always had trouble in school because I’m of Puerto Rican decent and when your Latino a lot of people say it differently when you first say your name to then. With my Latino friends they get it right away as well as Hispanic teachers but my white friends it gets a little difficult. I love this video so much because it really is true. You should embrace your name and take pride when you say. You should never have to adjust or change it for others to get it. If you have to, take them step by step and explain it to them.💕💕💕
my names valaria which my mom insists is pronounced valerie. most people try to pronounce it like malaria w a v instead of an m followed by haha isn’t that a disease. so now i just go by val.
My mom says she named me after princess Caroline of Monaco but she spelled it with a a at the end instead. I've been called Carol, Carolyn, carrie,Caroline. And my name has been butchered so many times and it's so easy lol.
val girl, this is my life right here, instead my name is valeria but people will still say valerie or malaria as a joke, now i just tell people my name is val, that’s it.
I’ve been going by Ceci my entire life pronounced “CC” even though Cecilia is a Spanish “e” like in “egg” so ppl just butcher it with the English short “e” sound 🙄
Being Filipino, I was the only one of us siblings to have a completely Hispanic full name: Jaime Luis Sibucao Habitan although "hache" is pronounced with a hard H-sound or "jota". Anyway, in my case, my nickname "James" came before my full first name was properly thought of so I've always identified myself as being "James" first then "Jaime" second. In the sixth grade when I moved to a new school, I wondered how it'd be like if I got people in school to call me "Jaime" and it wasn't as comfortable to hear in the same way as my nickname. Whether here in the Philippines or abroad, people have a hard time trying to pronounce "Jaime", going for the English "Jamie" pronounciation instead. I either correct them with the proper way of saying it, or have them just call me by my nickname, or do both, depending on the situation.
As an educator, I make it my business to say ALL my babies name correctly. Teach me! I will not call them the Americanized name!! What does your mother say? Ok well, that's what people should say. Be proud of you! I grew up with Latinos and was like that then too! It's respectful.
Same. Ya-saw-mean is how it's produced with an American accent, Iranian is a bit different. I do have a hard time saying it myself with a proper accent because I grew up American since my mom is and my dad lost his accent in University in London long before I was born. But yet I get, Yasmin, Jasmin, YOSEMITE???? WTF? Where's the O? The T? MY SCHOOL CALLED AND ASKED FOR YOSEMITE? Ridiculous. Yet, everyone know how to say Tchaikovsky..... 🙄🙄🙄🙃
I think all their names are all beautiful! My family has always had English/French names even those who were directly from Cuba/Panama. That (paired with my less than fluent Spanish) always made me insecure about even identifying as partially Hispanic. Also for the longest time, I just thought Curly was a reference to his hair...
The teachers would always pause then say "Miss Torres?" Hmm... yeah I'm here. My name is LuzDivina but kids called me "Luz Clarita" like in the novela. Well I'm not her so just call me Ludy, like Rudy or Judy but with an L.
I was blessed with such a basic name, Roger, but because of my salvadorian culture I was always told that it's pronounced Ro-hair. I grew up always having to correct people and being called roadhair or looked at for pronouncing it so differently. Once I got in high school I gave up and went with just Roger. My name came from my dad best friend that passed away from cancer before my birth. Thank for helping me feel better about my true latino name.
My name is Aurelio...... and when asked how to say it in “English” (anglicize it) and I’m like you don’t....it’s Aurelio. People always assume I hate or dislike my name, I always fucking love it. Be proud my brothers no shame in who we are.
My name is Catalina. My friends at school call me Cat. That's not my name. My name is Catalina. So call me by my name please. My name is a Colombian name. Yes, I'm from Colombia.🇨🇴 Just like Paola in the video.
I could tell it was a Colombian name and I love that name it's also the names of some of the main characters from a telenovela called " Sin Senos Si Hay Paraíso"
Its kind of an equal effort from both parties personally. If you have an uncommon name (or spelling) for the region, no matter what race or background you come from, if someone puts effort into spelling or pronouncing the name correctly you cant be mad if they ask you to repeat or pronounce it or w.e else. If they dont even try to learn then feel free to be upset because id be annoyed if someone didnt call me my name out of "difficulty". That said, if you are faced with a foreign name or an uncommon spelling please be respectful and ask how they spell it and pronounce it so that you dont dehumanize those people uwu
So true!!! I still struggle with this till this day. But they are correct - I feel incomplete when people only want to call me by my English name, I emphasize my Yoruba name because it is full of meaning and it it who I am🇳🇬😃
Hi, my English name is "Sharon" and my name in Spanish is "Charron" (like chicharron). In one of the videos you posted, a man shared withe me "Charron" is not a Spanish name and it sounded weird to him. I laughed because my name does exist because I exist. I am Sharon and I am Charron. I love both my name in either language. I loved this video and understand your concerns with folks who want to say something different. I ignore them as I know who I am.

For me it's not that people couldn't pronounce it it's that I've always hated it. My birth name is Carlos and my reason for hating it is because growing up in Miami there where like 100 other Carlos in my class so I just felt like a number but my other reason for hating it is because it's my dad's name and his dad's name and his dad's name. And to me that's just a legacy of laziness naming your kid after yourself because you don't want to actually think of something unique is just lazy to me. Anyways in highschool this girl I liked started to call me Charlie to you know differentiate me from all the Carlos because surprisingly there was no Charlie and at first I wasn't so sure but what the hell I like this girl why not and eventually I decided to keep it. Afterwards I would introduce myself as Charlie but I didn't like the spelling because everyone spells it like that so I settled on Charley. I absolutely hate being called Carlos and even worse Carlitos ughhh.

My first name is María (usually just spelled Maria) and you're supposed to roll the R. People usually pronounce as the normal Ma-ria, the American way. But in the Puerto Rican family it's María with the rolling of the R. My middle name is Leonor. Which people usually pronounce as Eleanor or Leo-nor. How it's spelled. But in my family it's pronounced with the emphasis on the ON and again, rolling the R. My full last name is De La Santos Suarez. De La Santos is from biological father's side. Suarez from my Mom. It's simplified as just Santos. And people pronounce it as San-toes. But it's supposed be pronounced as Sun-tos (like dos but with a t sound). And some people don't even attempt to say the Suarez part. In school (thank God it's senior year) they call me Ma-ria San-toes (Maria Santos). They took out the the "De La" in Santos and just call me that. But at home and to my family I am María Leonor De La Santos Suarez. And yes, even though it is a long name I love it. It makes me proud of my Half Dominican and Half Puerto Rican roots. And my name has a lot of meaning behind it. Maria was my Mom's Abuela's name (my Great-Abuela) and Leonor is my Abuela's name (I call her Mamabuela- mixture of Mama and Abuela that I came up with at the age of two). Again, I love my name. I love my roots. I love the history. Being Hispanic/Latino/Spanish is amazing, am I right?? 🙌🏽 #Puertorriqueña 🇵🇷 #Dominicana 🇩🇴
Relatable as hell. Even though my name is one of the handful of Spanish words everyone knows, it’s never said correctly or the way I prefer it to be said (THOOL-seh, DOOL-seh). It’s always DOOL-say to a majority of people, and it sucks hardcore. It’s really not that hard to take a second out of your day to make people feel seen and feel respected when they’ve been seen as lesser their entire life. I got to a point where I just stopped correcting until 3 years ago when a professor finally took the time to say it right and I felt seen and I felt like I mattered. It’s such a little thing, but it makes such a big impact.
Totally...Respect ourselves!!!For the longest I’d shorten my name for the convenience of other people who found it hard to pronounce my long name or simply really didn’t care to try and pronounce it. My name is Cielo and I love it but it took me 17 years to figure out i could tell people to say “the letter C and then the color yellow” when people try to figure out how to say my name! Or when teachers would give up on the young and say “Mr./Miss Vargas, ceelo, c-yay-lo, Cecilia”
Most of my family calls me Cachita cos I’m the youngest in the family and Cachita means ‘Little piece.’ However, my cousins either call me Chip or Chet cos of my love for Cheetos and chips. Even so I prefer to go by Kit online because I’m a Christian (religion) and that’s what you call a Christopher or Christian. But, my name is Grecia and was named after the Argentina actress Grecia Colmenares. People are always pronouncing it Gracia or Graysha but I’ve always loved how it’s pronounced in Spanish;so I correct people constantly bcus neither of those are my name. My last name is the only one I’ve had trouble with. People would always mispronounce and at times even misspell it. The two most common pronunciations were Nova and nAva. I usually just say it rhymes with Lava.
I think those struggles are common whenever you go to a country with a different culture, I mean I imagine that a typical russian name or irish name would be very hard to pronounce correctly for a typical american or latinamerican.
Names are so important and I feel like everyone just name their kids any old name. Take time and think about naming your kids, because that name will represent their personality and them as an individual.

I'm not Latina but I'm fluent in Spanish and have spent a lot of time in Latin America and I've also worked in latinx organizations here in the US...whenever I'm speaking in Spanish I always tell people to call me Clara because I prefer the full translation of my name to my name pronounced with an accent. I'm also used to being called Clara because my mom speaks a lot of languages so when I was growing up she would call me Claire, Clara, and Chiara interchangeably. I really like having a translatable name..but my perspective is also different because I've never had to deal with people in my home country being confused by my name, and for me being called Clara while speaking in Spanish is a choice.
I have a very unique name, it's 8 letters long and very uncommon. It is a Spanish name though, and was the name of my aunt who has passed away. People have always butchered my name but I have never tried to modify my name or create a nickname. I just don't know we should try to "Westernize" our names or be called something that isn't our names for the sake of other people who can't bother to learn a pronunciation

I'm black Brazilian!
Clarissa Your English is not bad! I understood what you meant perfectly well 😊.
SAme! I am not Latina but this channel is the absolute best on Buzzfeed and discusses so many important topics :)
Queen D it’s totally the same idea though! Through the slave trade many Africans were taken to the Caribbean and South America. It’s just that now that many are now coming to live to the US so there’s an added layer of immigration and language and cultural barriers!

My name isn’t 2 “L’s” it’s i-l-e-n-a
Even computers can’t spell it right right since capital “i” looks just like lowercase “L” Which I have had people call me Llena and I respond yeah I may be thick but my name isn’t the Spanish translation of “full” or they pronounce it like Llama the animal.
Wow, your name is so cool! And the story behind it is amazing...

Black American culture yeah
Thats funny lol
Simar Flores that’s cool Simar is also a very religious name in Punjabi/Indian culture

My last name is Samayoa which is my dad's last name very common in Guatemala. When people say it their like,
"Sam-oi-ya"
And I'm like
*sure... that's how you say it..*
And now my last name has been butured since kindergarten
My last name is pronounced "Sama-yo-a"
*oof*
Poor thing those people couldn’t read correctly
THIS IS ME ALLLLLLLLLL THE WAY! MY LAST NAME IS ZUNIGA PRONOUNCED "ZOO-KNEEGA" OMG HERES "ZUBUMBA" ,"ZOO-NIGGA","ZUNIEGA" SO ITS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE IVE CORRECTED PPL SO MUCH THEY CORRECT A SUBSTITUTE FOR ME
I knew someone with that last name
I'm white AF but I loveee your culture it's so fascinating
Samantha Waldrif gracias
There are also white af latinos. I know, shocking.
It's so cool you appreciate it! Thanks
Thank you Samantha
@@FutileGrief that's true, we are all colors and sizes. Greetings from Colombia.
Having a basque last name I can understand the struggle
Born from Salvadorean parents!!🇸🇻
Love my name: Noé, but I always get NO, NOWEE, NOI, or (the one I dislike the most) NO WAY.
At restaurants or coffee shops, where they ask for my name, I always spell it for them.
We named my youngest "Itzamatul Elena" her first name is Mayan. almost NOBODY can say her name. Eet-sah-mah-tewl. Not even Latinos can pronounce it. I think she might hate us when she goes to school.
#Puertorriqueña 🇵🇷 #Dominicana 🇩🇴
Precioso nombre...
Maria the American way vs Spanish way is just because of the accent difference don't worry sis your lucky 💕
Estéfano Masferrer is my short version I basically give wveryone who pronounces my name wrong a quick spanish class 😂😂
It’s such a little thing, but it makes such a big impact.
uff, if they have a problem with your name, your surname have to be a nighmare.... ha ha.
Dulce Arteaga you're beautiful by the way
Totally...Respect ourselves!!!For the longest I’d shorten my name for the convenience of other people who found it hard to pronounce my long name or simply really didn’t care to try and pronounce it. So it was Angie for a long time! And now I ask people to please call me Angelica ❤️ You are all so right!...because It is who I am! 🙏 😍 Thank you - “Pero Like” for another awesome vid!
My name can be pronounced in English and Spanish, my problem is my last name! The struggle 😩
Fuwen-my-your I have a family member with this last name
Ezinne! And I can totally relate! Pronounced A-zee-nay means Beloved Mother in English. My Dad is Ibo from Nigeria and he named me after my grandmother. #proud
Omg!!! I've only come across one Ezinne in my life, it's such a beautiful name. Never knew the meaning, that makes it even more beautiful.
It’s pronounced Grehsia or Greysia. 😊
Iam Half Brazilian
My last name is the only one I’ve had trouble with. People would always mispronounce and at times even misspell it. The two most common pronunciations were Nova and nAva. I usually just say it rhymes with Lava.
I think those struggles are common whenever you go to a country with a different culture, I mean I imagine that a typical russian name or irish name would be very hard to pronounce correctly for a typical american or latinamerican.
My name is AZUL and yes I now it’s a color 💙 but it is beautiful and it is very unique
Names are so important and I feel like everyone just name their kids any old name. Take time and think about naming your kids, because that name will represent their personality and them as an individual.
Sometimes my mom calls me ''Coruja'' (it means ''owl'' in portuguese). And my uncle calls me ''Zoiuda'', that's, basically, a country way of saying ''person with big eyes''. My real name is Livia kkkkk
a true LATINO name, meaning, it is a name of ROMAN origin. (you know, Rome, from the Latin area of Italy, leader of the Latin League, responsible for spreading Latin language through Europe)
@@rogeriopenna9014 I didn't know that. Thank you hahaha. Where are you from??

My name is "Reyna". Growing up in the 70's in Illinois was TORTURE. Moving to Latin America in the 80's was a dream. Came back to US in late 80's to Miami - all good. Now, back in Illinois - I am proud of my name. My mother is from Panama and I was named after my grandmother's nickname. My son is named after my grandfather's nickname, "Toño", and I hope that he will take pride in his name. I will add, he has an easier time simply because it is more diverse now and he doesn't have a negative stigma being half Latino. I was told I wasn't able to speak Spanish or they'd kick me out of school. It wasn't until I lived in Latin America did I feel normal and for that reason, I side more with my Latina family than my dad's family which is America. Thank's for your videos -- they are nice break from my dissertation and life in general.
Maíra, vc é maravilhosa e tem um nome lindo! Beeeem brasileiro, ou seja, com as típicas misturas da nossa experiência de colonização: portugal, italia, população nativa... 💜
WOW CURLYYY!
My name is Norberto, but I’m known as Beto in Mexico and in my community of the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
I’m the other way around I’ve always wanted a latino name but my parents named me Karen😂
Karen is latina
Karen Espinoza aye me toooo 😂 my middle name is Andrea so I guess it balances out lool
My mom calls me chapara
But my name is Dayana 😂🤪
Dear Dayana, lol that’s my middle name
Chaparra*
When you’re Salvadoran and have the same last name as curly 😊
I love this! Your name is such a beautiful part of your culture and who you are!! :-)
My name is William Enrique Mercado, William is my dad's name and Enrique is Grandpa's name who died a month before I was born
Hi William Henry Market
My name is Lara. Teachers always call me LAURA for no apparent reason. I always have to explain that is is LARA (with a really slight roll in the R and no U) and with my last name... Don't even get me started on those😂
that teacher must be female. Its a suble gringo shade. you need to be firm with this. And if she cries, you scream LA-RA Pinche, punto !!!!
I was once at this camp with people from the United States and United Kingdom and I was like the only Spanish girl so when the consulers called my name I would never answer because they left like two letters of my name and I didn't recognize it
my name is Mercedes Sinai Diaz I'm Puerto Rican and im named after my grandma okurt
Try African names
try Thai names wtf-
Broo so true i have a really easy last name compared to other africans and it pronouced (mo-mbili) not (mum-beeliii) but yet they still get it wrong
mariam mumbili
For us Brazilians it's not so hard to pronounce Bantu African names.
Brazilian Portuguese has many words derived from African languages. (Especially west-African languages,
Banguelo: (toothless person)
Cafuné: (cuddle in the head)
Abadá: (carnaval uniform shirt)
Batuque: (Drum)
And many others.
Super relatable. Especially with my last name. So many times people say or spell it wrong. To the point I sometimes drop the “ñ” in order to stop wasting time. It’s a delicate balance.
my name is Aracely and my middle name is Sol. NO ONE can say Aracely and when I say Sol they take it as “soul”.
Ararás ele Alva that’s my second daughters name. My first is named Amalia. So I just tell people lia and Cely. 😅
My names Aracely so I can relate 🤦
I had a lovely coworker once named Aracely. It amazed me when people had trouble pronouncing it. it's not that hard and it's beautiful
My name is Zerimar, which is my last name, Ramirez, spelled backwards. It’s pronounced - ser- y mar. But in English every single person butchers it! Zurr- ee- Mar, Zem-i-rar... 😑 so annoying. In 6th grade my English teacher couldn’t pronounce either my first or last name. Since it was listed on the attendance sheet as Ramirez, Zerimar, she said “ZZ” do we have a “ZZ” here. No other kid raised their hand and I knew she was talking about me. So, 26 years later, everyone calls me ZZ.
Love your name, But ZZ that's a cute nickname too :)
anchornomore thank you!! 😀
That’s such a beautiful name
Moon Child thank you!
I’m Mexican and my name is Isabella. My parents call me by my name but in the Spanish term. In Mexico it’s spelled Isabela because ll means the y sound so it would be Isabeya. Makes sense.
