There is no such thing as a "latin ethnicity" in genetics . Latin can refer to two different things when it comes to a person's ethnic background: either they are a mix of latin speaking Europeans with Native Americans and/or Africans ( what Americans call latino) or they are mostly European from a romance language speaking country ( though you will never hear an Italian or Portugese refer to themselves as latin as the term is used mostly in linguistics). Using your logic everybody born in your region would be 100% north Indian because they are a mixture of the groups you mentioned, that is a fair point in your particular scenario. The thing when it comes to latinos is tougher because it is a matter of definition. For instance, I am Brazilian and my dna results show 95.4% European, 4.2% indigenous American, 0.4% Southeastern African. On the other hand an average Mexican is around 50% European, 50% indigenous (depends on the area), so are we both 100% latinos even though our DNA and physical apperance may vary considerably? Furthermore, if a large portion of my dna comes from central and northwestern Europe ( out of typical latin-speaking areas) can I be considered 100% latino? This is what I mean when I say that claiming someone is 100% latino is incorrect. Even those born in Spain ( where the language is highly influenced by latin) vary widely, with some people having more northern European DNA and others Iberian or North African, none of which come from the latin homeland in Italy. So are they latinos? At the end of the day its all how you define latino: if you mean to designate someone from Latin America or Latin speaking Europe latino then sure you can say they are 100% latinos simply for being born there. But when it comes to genetics and ethnicity you simply cannot say someone is 100% latino because there is no standard latino.

Dominican here: There´s no "dominican gene", most Dominicans are African + European, and a small porcentage of native Taino. Ofcourse it varies from person to person, some people, spacially in the Southwest, have more Taino than European, for example. But I´m not surprised she didn´t got a "dominican" marker. Also this shows probably the DNA company hasn´t done much research in the country to have specifics about us.

We all took classes about black history, and really no one was racist there. I’m online friends with her and she still has this video posted on her wall. K let me clarify this. There's a lot indigenous cultures(sometime called nationalities) within national states in Latinoamerica. So we're not expecting those to show up specifically in these DNA tests, simply because they lack the data. So I'm guessing they're grouping these ethnicities within territorial spaces since it's the same logic states follow. But yeah, nationality by country is really the last wrap within the complex ethnicity makeup you might have if you're from Latin America. Honestly, I'm not happy about this test, I found it very lacking but I'm not surprised about it either..

It was a bunch of smaller territories of different tribes that would often fight each other, and the Aztecs ended up being the most powerful of the tribes, which led them to becoming the largest civilization in Mexico. I am Mexican but I am not Aztec at all. The 43% native DNA I have is from Zacatecos, or known as "Chichimecas" by the Aztecs. My native Mexican ancestors were ENEMIES of the Aztec.

I am a white man through and through raised by my two black adopted parents, I showed this to get their reaction and they were just shocked to the core as was I, just because I am white and my parents are black I don't see them as better or worse than me and vice versa for them. You are underplaying immigration. Most of us born in the Americas are mostly descended from immigrants than colonisers. It would be like assuming most white Americans are descended from like Benjamin Franklin or George Washington when the reality is most are descended from poor farmers who came from Ireland or Germany or Italy in the 1850s-1920s. Not the same as the colonisers from the 17th and 18th century. Unless you are from like Virginia or Massachusetts and have been there for a dozen generations you are probably more recent at least from the non-native side. That goes for Mexico and everywhere south.

There is no such thing as a "latin ethnicity" in genetics . Latin can refer to two different things when it comes to a person's ethnic background: either they are a mix of latin speaking Europeans with Native Americans and/or Africans ( what Americans call latino) or they are mostly European from a romance language speaking country ( though you will never hear an Italian or Portugese refer to themselves as latin as the term is used mostly in linguistics). Using your logic everybody born in your region would be 100% north Indian because they are a mixture of the groups you mentioned, that is a fair point in your particular scenario. For instance, I am Brazilian and my dna results show 95.4% European, 4.2% indigenous American, 0.4% Southeastern African. On the other hand an average Mexican is around 50% European, 50% indigenous (depends on the area), so are we both 100% latinos even though our DNA and physical apperance may vary considerably? Furthermore, if a large portion of my dna comes from central and northwestern Europe ( out of typical latin-speaking areas) can I be considered 100% latino? This is what I mean when I say that claiming someone is 100% latino is incorrect. Even those born in Spain ( where the language is highly influenced by latin) vary widely, with some people having more northern European DNA and others Iberian or North African, none of which come from the latin homeland in Italy. So are they latinos? At the end of the day its all how you define latino: if you mean to designate someone from Latin America or Latin speaking Europe latino then sure you can say they are 100% latinos simply for being born there. But when it comes to genetics and ethnicity you simply cannot say someone is 100% latino because there is no standard latino.

True! My little (half) sister has 76% European. However, she has more African features than me. Why? Simple: her paternal grandpa (my step grandma, albeit I love him as if he was a bio grandpa) is biracial. So her African ancestry is more recent.
But she was also 15% Sub-Saharan African - therefore making sense why she is a brown woman. And it also made sense why HE is a white latino.

Dominican here: There´s no "dominican gene", most Dominicans are African + European, and a small porcentage of native Taino. Ofcourse it varies from person to person, some people, spacially in the Southwest, have more Taino than European, for example. But I´m not surprised she didn´t got a "dominican" marker. Also this shows probably the DNA company hasn´t done much research in the country to have specifics about us.

K let me clarify this. There's a lot indigenous cultures(sometime called nationalities) within national states in Latinoamerica. So we're not expecting those to show up specifically in these DNA tests, simply because they lack the data. So I'm guessing they're grouping these ethnicities within territorial spaces since it's the same logic states follow. But yeah, nationality by country is really the last wrap within the complex ethnicity makeup you might have if you're from Latin America. Honestly, I'm not happy about this test, I found it very lacking but I'm not surprised about it either..

He is more Indigenous than European, but likely most people (who are ignorant of Latin American history) would call him white and be surprised at the fact that he very likely had enslaved ancestors. Specially in the US, don't tell anyone (black or white) that your ancestors were colonized and enslaved if you look white like that guy 😂. The history of Latin America is not the same as the history of the US, but unfortunately, more often than not people will laugh to your face if you look white like that guy and say you are not white, even as your DNA tests confirm that you have more Indigenous ancestry in you. You are underplaying immigration. Most of us born in the Americas are mostly descended from immigrants than colonisers. It would be like assuming most white Americans are descended from like Benjamin Franklin or George Washington when the reality is most are descended from poor farmers who came from Ireland or Germany or Italy in the 1850s-1920s. Not the same as the colonisers from the 17th and 18th century. Unless you are from like Virginia or Massachusetts and have been there for a dozen generations you are probably more recent at least from the non-native side. That goes for Mexico and everywhere south.

There are white Latinos, as well as indigenous, black, asian, etc. But for a lot of Latinos, both their parents are mixed, all four grandparents are mixed, and as far as they know, their families have been in the country for generations and have been mixed for a while. That applies to me too: I don't know where my family is from. As far as I can tell, we've all been here for quite a while. So for many of us, mestizaje is the identity we share.

Exactly , people fail to realize that the people of the world are comprised of African(Black), European(white) or Native . from these three come all the Types of people. The "latino" for example is actually to some extent a brand new race as they are a mixture of all three but mostly European and native American . Take the "Mexican" for example all they are is simply a mixture of native American and European, Or the "Afro- latino"(many are mixed) & "Afro american" which is just a person of African descent being born & living in the Americas , or the "White American" which is just a person of European decent being born and living in the land of the Americas.
Now obviously it isn't as clear cut and straight forward on top of plenty of mixing especially in South America, but this is the bases of it all.
