Hey You lol I like your TH-cam name 😂 I think you should try getting a personal tutor or do conversation exchange with a native speaker. As an African-American I always had a love for the language ever since I was young going to the bodegas in my neighborhood escuchando a la salsa/bachata/o merengue en la tiendas. See I can write in Spanglish which is a start but I only took Spanish in high school which I too passed and also joined the Spanish club at my school where I learned just the tip of the iceberg when it came to Latin culture as a whole. Now I’m 29 and have a better grasp on the language due to interactions with native speakers. Even my dating life consists of learning lol, didn’t learn too much from my boyfriend from 🇵🇷 cause he didn’t speak it much but I learned how to bachata and gained a new library of Latin music which helped me substantially gain the Spanish lengua 👅. I had a mentor from 🇨🇴 who taught me salsa and I never looked back lol and now mi novio es mexicano🇲🇽 y brasileño🇧🇷 and the food that he cooks for me.....🤤😋🤤 omg forget about it lol. I also talk more with him more than I did in the past because I actually hired a tutor who was also from Colombia. I learned a little more vocab but the important thing was that I gain more self confidence to speak the language which led me from Philadelphia living with family and friends to Southern California living with Mexicans and Guatemalans 🇬🇹. I currently am picking up a lot of music and vocab from the people of 🇨🇺 since I am learning Casino y Rueda de Casino which is basically salsa cubana and hands down my favorite version of salsa I’ve learned to date 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾. Anyhow as for speaking Spanish It’s hard don’t get me wrong but if you stick with it and be consistent with speaking even if it’s just to yourself in the mirror or in the car it doesn’t matter you’re speaking the language. Once you get over the fear it gets easier and it gets fun. I love going into businesses owned by native speakers of Spanish and surprising them with the knowledge o have acquired simply by immersion and just shear passion, now my Spanish is nowhere near perfect of fluent however the people appreciate my desire to keep learning and talking with them and taking constructive criticism. It can bruise the ego a bit but that’s the learning process. When you have a chance try conversation exchange.com you can literally exchange convo with people of your target all of the world. And because you speak English there will be an endless supply of people who want to talk with you. You can video chat or just WhatsApp but nonetheless you’re learning. Another avenue I would suggest is italki which is a great platform to get one on one training with a personal tutor for reasonable prices. I hope reading my mini book 📖 lol encourages you to keep hope alive and get back in there, the Spanish speaking world needs you and welcomes you, if I can do it, having no family that speaks Spanish of of Latin descent then so can you, BUENA SUERTE 😉 👍🏾!

This was so cool I’m glad they did this kind of video, not only does it inspire me to speak Spanish more but it also reminds me to not beat myself to fluency and to have fun by keeping it light when communicating and that perfection is not the goal, progress is and to gain that is to be consistent. If I may ask, how did that happen? When I was a teacher, I'd see that in biligual kids. They went back and forth between countries, so both languages were not realized completely.
Cindy Sinclair I feel like part of me thinking my English sucks is due to the fact that since it isn’t my first language I’ll never feel like I’m perfect at it. Even if I don’t have an accent and can communicate fluently. Long story short, I was born in NY but due to family issues had to move to my parents home country a month after being born and we would only come to the US for vacations. When I was 8 we decided to move back to the US permanently, that’s when I learned how to speak English. ESL programs sucked at the schools I went to, so I taught myself a lot of things by watching tv, reading books and dictionaries. Due to having such an extreme focus on being able to communicate properly in English, my Spanish suffered a lot. My Spanish is worse than my English which is a little embarrassing.
@@VanessaNicoleMakeup Wow! That is such a common occurrence with bilingual students. I have studied Spanish for sooooo many years and I'm also from NY. Spanish is/was everywhere. Many of my friends were PR/DR and we used to talk and I'd listen to their families. I wish I kept with it when i was younger. Now I have dedicated this passed year to studying. I feel so behind but we have to keep going, right?
Cindy Sinclair Yes, that’s awesome! Life would be utterly boring if we stopped learning. I’m hoping to improve my Spanish as well, and maybe one day even learn a new language. Best of luck! 😊
Got the biggest crush on Ivan 🥺❤️ Y’all did your best and that’s what matters! Keep practicing and eventually your vocab will grow! I agree with Maya, no more shaming latin@s who can’t speak Spanish well, if any, lets help them and encourage them! ✨
OMGGGGG I think I’m going to do something like this at work!! The designer at my work is Peruvian and has only been in the states for about 10 years and the staff at my office gets sooooo frustrated and upset towards him because he doesn’t always understand exactly what they mean and my supervisor and I have been trying to figure out a way to get people to lay off him and be more compassionate. If my supervisor approves it I’m gonna just tell my staff what to do in Spanish all day and see how they feel when I pretend to be mad at them for not understanding what I want them to do. GREAT VIDEO IDEA!!
I'm so incredibly proud & full of respect for Maya. A few years back she was a non spanish speaker in Los angeles who knew only a couple of words in spanish. then, one day she said, I'm going to take spanish lessons and learn the language of my people. Well, look at her now. Shes practically fluent in 2 languages! Keep it up, Pocha concha 💚
Tip: You can’t think in english and try to translate to speak in spanish, that slows you down. You must think and speak spanish. You must consume the spanish. You must be the spanish in every way.

My cousin and I were on a guided trip through Costa Rica and admittedly we felt like the only Latinxs in the group. I'm more the booksmart AP Spanish person and he was the mildly broken but understandable Spanish conversationalist, but admittedly it's not something either of us had practiced in a long time. We broke from the tour group one night and went to a fancy steakhouse dinner and did our best speaking only in Spanish the whole meal, to each other and the wait staff. We got through it and it felt really good. I wish I had more opportunities to speak in Spanish with friends or at work (and I definitely do not know any calculus in Spanish) but this video definitely resonated with me. Great job!
@@MsJanetWood On the contrary, there are I know many of my Spanish professors from college who would respectfully disagree with this claim Yes there are accents, and here's a link to what I'm referring to as dialects www.fluentu.com/blog/spanish/spanish-dialects/
@@MsJanetWood Accent refers to pronunciation. Dialect refers not only to pronunciation but also to the many other differences, such as using different vocabulary, conjugating verbs differently (ocupando vos, por ejemplo), and grammar. Some countries even have more than one dialect of Spanish!
Speaking in different dialects or accents might not be a good idea especially for Maya or Eli possibly even Curly who don't have strong accents themselves. Its similar to trying to learn Portuguese when you don't fully know Spanish. It will affect their own accents and is probably the reason why Maya hasn't developed a Mexican dialect because she's around all the other dialects. I'm mex. too and my own Spanish is about the same as Maya's and binge watching Pero Like and other videos especially Gadiel's videos have affected my own Spanish. I've caught myself change up my inflections, slur and drop letters or words. It's helped but has also harmed my own speech.
I enjoyed this video. Excellent job Maya. You said you wanted o speak spanish more and this video shows your efforts on making yourself better in this aspect. Good on you.
So thank you guys a lot. Saludos desde Chile
thank you for this! I'm not Spanish/latinx, but I'm learning it in school, and this gave me so much hope that I can truly become fluent after practice. you all are so real and honest. Los Amo
Growing up with both Spanish and English, I realized that English is a hard language to learn (what with all the grammar and spelling), but it's just like any other language! It's possible to learn a new language if you put in the effort! I speak both languages fluently, but I'd love to learn Japanese or German! Don't discriminate: Respect!
YES MAYA, go off at the end! I'm Pacific-Islander, and I grew up in Micronesia. I don't speak Chamorro, my indigenous language, because my dad's side of the family always bullied me for being too pale, and shunned me for not speaking it fluently, so I never connected with the language. I never had a reason to want to learn it. I kind of resented it for a long time, to be honest. It's nice to see you guys be accepting of each other and have different levels of proficiency, because it becomes so much more inclusive and open. It's hard to learn in an unwelcoming environment, and it's so refreshing to see this team learn from each other.
Absolutely beautiful! I just back yesterday from being in Central America for a month, I literally went to see the fam and practice my spanish! Que bendición! 🙏🏽

You know, like when a guy whom you're not attracted to compliments you or a family member compliments you and it just doesn't mean as much as receiving a compliment from your crush. My point is, though I don't speak Spanish, I've always been around Spanish speaking environments. You have truly come so far. We all recognize your effort!)
I needed this, I grew up not speaking spanish and have always struggled with the language growing up and been told that I’m not Latino, or Latino enough, and that shit always got me. Nice to be reminded that despite me, it doesn’t make me any less of a Puerto Rican-Dominican man.
This video was encouraging because I am learning Spanish and just seeing how everyone is at different levels and yet make it work makes it easier to learn. You do not have to be completely fluent to start talking, I understand more than I can speak but I am working to get better and more comfortable.

This was so cool I’m glad they did this kind of video, not only does it inspire me to speak Spanish more but it also reminds me to not beat myself to fluency and to have fun by keeping it light when communicating and that perfection is not the goal, progress is and to gain that is to be consistent. 💚🙏🏾💯✨✌🏾💫
I feel exactly the same way!
el video de inspiración* ;) Not trying to be annoying, just trying to help, spanish is my first language.
Mariana P. Annoying by simply correcting lol, no offense taken. Thanks for that, which is why I need to practice more. Thanks again 😊☺️💯✨
Lekha Reddy ☺️😊💯❤️✨
same here omg
If I end up with a non-spanish speaking man I'm gonna jorobarle la existencia by doing this one day.
Perfecto, así él también aprende un poquito :)
jjaajajaj que buena
Jajajaja
who else understands maya the most because she is learning also so she speaks much slower😂
Sii
I understood all of them because they were saying the same thing that was written in English underneath.

This make me crack up lol!

I feel like Curly. Both my Spanish and my English suck. 🤣 But Spanish is my first language and I’m so thankful for it.
same bruh !
Got the biggest crush on Ivan 🥺❤️
Y’all did your best and that’s what matters!
Keep practicing and eventually your vocab will grow!
I agree with Maya, no more shaming latin@s who can’t speak Spanish well, if any, lets help them and encourage them! ✨
Maya's Spanish has improved a lot since I started watching her. ¡Felicidades!
Not for nothing Maya has come so far! You go girl! 😍 Eli needs to at least try! Coño!😂🤦🏼♀️
Never heard Claudia speaking in spanish, i loved it!

Zack Munson Excelente idea. Hazlo.
Margarita MilitaryPolice voy a hacer en lunes!!
I just love Ivan’s accento puertorriqueño. Yass 🇵🇷

Ayyyyeee KLK 🇩🇴😏💯✨
Nope.
Tip: You can’t think in english and try to translate to speak in spanish, that slows you down. You must think and speak spanish. You must consume the spanish. You must be the spanish in every way.
Ohhh...it's hardest, though, when I'm upset(con mi mami, usually!). Remembering to think in Spanish in the heat of the moment...not easy

Iván: This is going to be easy, I can speak Spanish all day long.
Also Iván: Challenge, challenge, CHALLENGE!!!
Spanglish anyone?😂😂
Ivan failed in his first sentance he said "so" instead of "asi".
@@alec2979 but the challenge was to not speak english. He knows the spanish words for the english words he used...so he still failed.
A lot of people say challenge nowadays when it comes to social media slang, even if they are speaking in Spanish.
@@CherryBlossom-mj4qu nah, my mom doesn't, and she lives in nyc. neither do my entire family in D.R. people using english slang mainly live in America🤷♂️
I absolutely loved this! Maya, you have improved so much & I am proud. I’m sad that I lost my Spanish growing up because I used to get teased but I’m working to get back on track! I need to just do this and not be ashamed of my level because everyone says I speak it so well but also I get nervous because of the things I dealt with as a child. We’ll all get there! Just keep trying ❤️ 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Great job!
I identify so hard with Claudia (but in Mandarin). I am also a student of Spanish and ugh I wish I had your level of listening comprehension, Maya!!!
This cracks me up....the staff kept interjecting english words in thier broken spanish sentences. What I loved about this video is the compassion the staff shared with one another.

Im only speaking Spanish with my fiance in an attempt to practice more because I’m in the same boat as Maya. It’s tough but I’m doing it!!!
Fun video! Don’t let the people that criticize stop you from practicing spanish. I agree 💯 % with what you said at the end of the video. Positive vibes at all time. 😄
Mi inglés sucks too 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad you all did this video It means a lot to many of us And I'm so PROUD of you MAYA
Next challenge: Try to speak in other Spanish dialects 😊 That's a definitely must see
I feel that 😀
You mean accents? There are not "Spanish dialects"! Just different accents.
Ivan challenge en español se dice reto 😂🤣
Lol....I was just saying how every word he spoke was in spanish except the word " challenge". Even I didn't know how to say it in Spanish😝
He also said "so" and that's not Spanish
Omg yes!!! It drove me nuts
I enjoyed this video. Excellent job Maya. You said you wanted o speak spanish more and this video shows your efforts on making yourself better in this aspect. Good on you. I wish I can push myself to do the same as I am learning but I never try to use it in public. This video is a motivator. Well done Pero Like
This video touched my heart
I'm half french and I'm always feeling insecure with speaking French because I'm scared that people might hear my accent and notice some lacking vocabulary....
This showed me that I'm just as French as any other French person and that I can just practice without being scared of judgement
Thank you
I love this! I am a Kenyan and I’m currently learning Spanish. My main challenge is speaking and when people speak it fast,I hardly understand. I’d love to visit Mexico or Cuba or Dominican Republic one day.
Crush and pretendiente don't have the same meaning ...
¡Pensé exactamente lo mismo! Gracias por decirlo.
Exacto. Ojalá yo que mi crush sea mi pretendiente.
Hola Maya!

I love that the "sana sana" is common in all latin america
I love this so much!
this made me want to do this for the rest of the day. I mean, I've seen sm videos like this pero like this one's the best by far.

I’m learning Spanish right now, and honestly this video is super helpful and encouraging. I can understand the majority of what they’re saying and it makes me feel not so hopeless.
Maya ia killing it with her Spanish. She's improved so much. Its good to see that she is more confident in speaking it now.
I loved this! 🇲🇽🥰

I’m genuinely so happy with Maya’s Spanish journey and it really inspires me to learn more and more💜
i love so much this video ! it makes me way to much nostalgic i don't have a lot of occasion ton practice my spanish at home. So it was great seeing you speaking, it remind me even of some cultural expressions we used to have when i was little
Maya!!!! 😍😍😍 you go girl! It's like you're a child celebrity and we've all watched you grow up on the internet. I'm not latina, nor do I speak Spanish but I'm sooooooo proud for you & of you! You rock!
(I hope you won't see my comment as baseless.
Curly!!!
:) it's soo good to speak and understand both languages
Que chulos están Gadiel y Iván 😍
maya, i love you babyyy. your spanish is getting soooo good 🇲🇽
I needed this, I grew up not speaking spanish and have always struggled with the language growing up and been told that I’m not Latino, or Latino enough, and that shit always got me. Nice to be reminded that despite me, it doesn’t make me any less of a Puerto Rican-Dominican man.
"Y mi ingles sucks too!" hahah loved it!
This video was encouraging because I am learning Spanish and just seeing how everyone is at different levels and yet make it work makes it easier to learn. You do not have to be completely fluent to start talking, I understand more than I can speak but I am working to get better and more comfortable.

Please make more of this. BEST Spanish lesson ever, this makes me dust of my attempts in learning spanish
I really enjoy your videos, and relate so much! My family is from Haiti, but I grew up in Minnesota, so like my Creole is very minimal (but I can understand it very well). This journey that Maya’s been on has inspired me to keep practicing.
I lost it when the translation said "heal, heal, frog's butt" 😂😭
Maya your Spanish came a long way... I'm so proud of you❤🥳 I remember the days when you knew "Nada"😉
I’m so proud to be bilingual and so fluent in both languages. 🙌🏽
I'm glad you all made this video. Being bilingual gives us such an advantage where ever we go. Sometimes I like you struggle and forget certain phrases in Spanish but I always try to practice and improve. Also if you can speak it, read it, and write it's even better. So I encourage everyone out there to polish their Spanish so that you can be a "double threat" in his case, haha.😊😉
Out of all of them.. Maya and Curly are like they only ones I got the vibes that they really care about it.
Well and Gadiel and Ivan but they're basically native so it doesn't count.

Maya has come so far and it made me feel so much better to see her progress because now I know that I can do it too. So proud of her
I just started practicing Spanish a couple years back, and I love the language and culture with all my heart because it is similar to my Filipino culture. I wish to one day fly to a Spanish speaking country and immerse myself in the culture. Does anyone wanna practice Spanish with me in the replies? 😂
There's an app called HelloTalk which is basically practicing with real Spanish speakers
gadiel's spanish is so obviously DR cause you hear NO 'S' SOUNDS jajajajajajaja

Can you guys help Eli ? 😂
Girls look at him as the most gorgeous man on pero like, but there's two problems or flaws (mostly problems),
On the date night cook off, his burger spewed with pink liquid coming out of the burger when he cut it. As soon as I saw it come out, it was looking raw on the inside but done on the outside.
I've been seeing the comments on that video that he can't cook for crap but hey don't count him out yet, he has a lot of time to improve cooking and speaking spanish. Ivan, you can talk a lot of crap about Eli's Spanish, but he'll improve over time and he will prove the doubters wrong. Just like Maya. I'm rooting for you two to get better at Spanish!! Your two are without a doubt the funniest people on pero like. Love y'all.
I love how even tho Gadiel has been living in LA for years now he still dress like he in NYC. He know where we come from. 🗽🗽🗽
