Mazda3 owner here. It's a great car. The only negative I have is rear seat legroom, of which there is none if you're an adult. Fortunately, I rarely have rear seat passengers, but if I did, this would be a real problem. Otherwise, it's awesome. A very overlooked car in the segment.

If you put Mazda 3 next to Corolla or Civic you'll notice that it has much longer hood. That's why it has less space in the cabin, but better sound insulation. It's good for a sports car, but a bad trade-off for a family car, IMO. Toyota did a much better job with Corolla in regard of the interior space between the hatch and the sedan.
Agreed. I’d be first in line for a Mazda 3 hatchback hybrid. I loved my 19 AWD Mazda 3 hatchback until I moved to the city and went from getting 30+mpg to low 20s due to more city driving. I ended up trading it in for a 22 Honda Insight. Looking forward to eventually replacing it with a Civic hatchback Hybrid to get back the hatchback practicality while retaining the better fuel economy.
You have it completely backwards. Why wouldn't Mazda make a Mazda 3 hybrid to increase sales because it 100% would. Many people disregard the Mazda 3 simply because it doesn't have a hybrid option
@@Unchainedmaple888 if Mazda implemented a hybrid in the 3 they may sell a extra 3k units a year, which would bring their yearly sales to 23k units while others are selling well over 100k units. This is what I mean when it’s not worth it them. The 3 has the worst sales figures in compact sedan segment and it has nothing to do with the lack of hybrids because the Civic sold extremely well for years without a hybrid. The 3 sells poorly because it’s small compared to the rest of the segment, they focus more on being driving focused and premium interiors while everyone else focuses on practicality. And Mazdas presence in the US is far smaller then other Asian brands as they typically don’t have dealers in rural America.
Mazda makes an amazing vehicle! I am still in love with my 2018 Mazda 3 GT. Amazing car! Premium interior and handling amazing! No complaints. I agree- this car is not for families. Nor do market it for families. More like for one person in their 20s/30s without kids. This generation is beautiful and upmarket interior for sure!
I got 2 toyotas now myself 2024 corolla hybrid (1.8L) and 2022 Rav4 prime (2.5L 4th gen), but they both use older tech, newer ones just coming out seem having to many issues
I've bought the hatchback version for my teenage kiddo. But until she needs it, I am driving it because I like it! It feels light and quick and is very fuel-efficient. I agree about the steering, though; it is heavy and vague. The visibility to the front is great, with narrow pillars; to the back you've got cameras and sensors so it's fine. Perfect size and safety for a new driver, but would have been too small for a family car.
I bought the premium hatchback stick shift in soul red crystal metallic. I've had the car for 8 months and still love it! Best in class exterior aesthetic and the interior is equally as nice. The Bose sound system is awesome too.
I have a 2010 Mazda Mazda3 (by Mazda) and she is still going strong. While I still miss the Mini I had before her, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.
I still think 4door sedans make perfect "family car". Classic elegant looking. Much better driving dynamics. Save money on fuel. If the kids outgrow the back seats, get a minivan. Let's be real, nobody goes off-road in a car-based unibody SUV/crossover. Sadly everybody wants an SUV these days.
Yeah, sedans are proper cars. Btw, in Europe we have lots of wagons which are great if you need more trunk space while preserving driving dynamics. But the SUVs are like plague and they are taking over. I guess people just want to show off in a big car, no matter the practicality. Modern SUVs aren't even good for off-road anymore.

@AdonaiNate SUVs have MORE negative externalities than smaller, lighter, vehicles. So, if more people drive larger vehicles it does actually effect other people. More pollution, more noise, more pedestrian deaths, more crowding on narrow roads, etc, etc
I bought 2019 Mazda in 2020 for my oldest daughter as she was graduating college. it has served her and my younger daughter well and I am always surprised how affordable the service cost are compared to the BMWs we have had for years.

Great little car BUT I hate how high the window line is versus the seat height. It's like a Camaro in how you feel like you're sitting way down in a tub.
This car still looks beautiful. It is elegant and only gently aggressive as opposed to the Maximillions on wheels (IYKYK) that are all over the roads now.

I have the hatchback version and I only have 2 cons, the back seats aren’t the most roomy, but my friends are not tall, and the rear window is kinda small but it has a backup camper and blind spot monitoring
The turbo AWD Carbon trim is priced really well, but you do have to sacrifice the Bose audio which is the best sounding system next to Acura ELS. Also, it must be noted the manual is ONLY available on one trim: Premium FWD hatchback.

Mazda needs higher hp powertrains on base models for their heavier vehicles, besides that, their stuff is high tier and economic. I love my 3 hatch. My base 2020 doesn’t have the piano black center console, it’s only on a small portion around the shifter, which I find interesting and I enjoy it. I think the 3 is an especially perfect vehicle for a single guy or no kids haha

Did you try the hands free calling? My sister had a hatch for a rental, right after I talked about wanting a Mazda3 again, and I could barely hear her. I'm worried it's an issue with all or if it was just that one.
I wish they still had the 12V socket, too. However, you can get 12V from the USB-C ports. Always unplug the adapters when you shut down the engine. NOTE: The ports are always "hot" and it will run down the battery if you don't.

Just remember this car is entering its 7th model year. I know someone who works with a Mazda supplier and they told me the current 3 will stick around another couple years til they discontinue it.
Cheaper price and competition. The segment for this car is bigger. There are a lot more people who are in this price range. The Camrys and the Accords are harder to outsell.
The midsize segment is shrinking. The Mazda6 was a poor seller when you have to sell in high volume. Pretty soon the Accord and Camry will be the only two midsize sedans left.

I chose the new Impreza RS for my kiddos 1st car. The AWD is great for our climate, and I feel Subaru has better safety equipment. I also really tried to like the modern Mazda infotainment system and just felt it is horribly designed and regardless of Mazdas claims, for me it is far more distracting to use. The Subaru system just makes sense and is easy to use. Anyone can hop right in and use it without a problem. No need to read a manual or spend months getting used to it like every mazda owner will tell you about their stupid knob system.

Mazda is going to name the car the déjà vu déjà vu but wisely choose to avoid the risk of sales staff being trapped in an infinite loop wile introducing the car to customers. And you know what’s as fun as a dad joke? A 6 speed automatic as old as your dad.
No one refers to this as the “Mazda Mazda 3,” except you guys. Yes, technically, legally, precisely, that’s what it is, but to human beings roaming the planet, it’s simply a Mazda 3. “Mazda Mazda 3” is not “a thing”.
Pluses: No CVT; nice looking; has a spare tire; great safety scores; not a cookie cutter crossover. Minuses: Gets pricey in higher trim levels; little cramped inside; not good infotainment controls: poor warranty for a premium nameplate wannabe.
Do they not call it the “3”anymore? This, like many other Mazdas are VERY pretty, but lack substance. There are so many little things that give you headaches every day that you end up hating it. I’ll give you some examples. Sight lines are poor and not only annoying, but actually dangerous in a busy city. That rear suspension… you DEFINITELY feel it in the Northeast. The cupholders… try putting one of those large cups. They’ll block all HVAC controls. The infotainment you might think is safer, but it actually more dangerous than a touchscreen. It takes me 4-7 seconds to adjust a function on a Mazda, while constantly looking at which thing I’m choosing versus 2-3 seconds of touches. Also, the front lip is so long and so low that it gets destroyed by every parking lot curb. It’s reliable… but comes with 20th century fuel economy. The Civic and Elantra beat it in every way and even add an amazing hybrid as an option.
I drive a CX-30, and compared to my fiancé's civic, mine drives like a dream. I do agree that the sight lines are poor, but the safety rating is much higher, I wouldn't say the same with its competitors. I also hate CVTs. To each their own.

I you feel like the visibility to be dangerous in a busy city, you shouldn’t be driving. I have one (an not tall by any means) and can see perfectly out of it not to mention maneuver just fine in tight areas. Second of all, a good portion of who drive the behemoths on the road can’t even maneuver those on the road or in an empty parking lot.

It’s thick A and C pillar issue, which is ABSOLUTELY dangerous in big cities like New York (where I live) because of crossing pedestrians. Coincidentally, you won’t find many Mazda3’s here, but plenty of Subarus, which are known for great sight lines. I’ve been driving, safely, for 28 years, but I appreciate your concern.

if you are interested in a manual, it has a very nice shifter and a light but decent clutch, its also pretty well geared to the 2.5

No one refers to this as the “Mazda Mazda 3,” except you guys. Yes, technically, legally, precisely, that’s what it is, but to human beings roaming the planet, it’s simply a Mazda 3. “Mazda Mazda 3” is not “a thing”.
Mostly we find the technical redundancy of the name to be funny. I promise we're not actually bent out of shape about it. :)
24,000 for the base model yes. 35,000 for the premium model hell, freaking, no! For 35000 you can get a much much better car.

Mazda 3--not made for the long-torso'd, poufy-haired, broad-shouldered demographic. 😞
Pluses: No CVT; nice looking; has a spare tire; great safety scores; not a cookie cutter crossover.
Minuses: Gets pricey in higher trim levels; little cramped inside; not good infotainment controls: poor warranty for a premium nameplate wannabe.
Stock tires are garbage so budget $800 for new tires.

This, like many other Mazdas are VERY pretty, but lack substance. There are so many little things that give you headaches every day that you end up hating it. I’ll give you some examples.
Sight lines are poor and not only annoying, but actually dangerous in a busy city. That rear suspension… you DEFINITELY feel it in the Northeast. The cupholders… try putting one of those large cups. They’ll block all HVAC controls. The infotainment you might think is safer, but it actually more dangerous than a touchscreen. It takes me 4-7 seconds to adjust a function on a Mazda, while constantly looking at which thing I’m choosing versus 2-3 seconds of touches. Also, the front lip is so long and so low that it gets destroyed by every parking lot curb. It’s reliable… but comes with 20th century fuel economy.
The Civic and Elantra beat it in every way and even add an amazing hybrid as an option.
I drive a CX-30, and compared to my fiancé's civic, mine drives like a dream. I do agree that the sight lines are poor, but the safety rating is much higher, I wouldn't say the same with its competitors. I also hate CVTs. To each their own.

@@scrubluck6734 The safety rating is “much higher”? The NHTSA gave the Civic 5 stars while the IIHS rated it “Top Safety Pick”. The NHTSA rates the CX-30 the same 5 stars, while the IIIHS rates it “Top Safety Pick+”.
Your comment is misleading.
I you feel like the visibility to be dangerous in a busy city, you shouldn’t be driving. I have one (an not tall by any means) and can see perfectly out of it not to mention maneuver just fine in tight areas. Second of all, a good portion of who drive the behemoths on the road can’t even maneuver those on the road or in an empty parking lot.
@@devondelgado1818 The visibility issue isn’t a belt line issue. It’s thick A and C pillar issue, which is ABSOLUTELY dangerous in big cities like New York (where I live) because of crossing pedestrians. Coincidentally, you won’t find many Mazda3’s here, but plenty of Subarus, which are known for great sight lines. I’ve been driving, safely, for 28 years, but I appreciate your concern.
