I'm a diabetic, been in ketosis with one meal a day, little or no carbs, 40 gms protein and lots of fat.....diabetes under control, diabetic neuropathy much better....but I'd like to eat much more protein. Did not really understand in your video if excess protein would spike my blood sugar, or not

Hello “D B101” and thank you for your comment. Let me start with a clarification that the following should not be taken as advice and you should always consult with your doctor before making any dietary changes. Yes, it can raise blood sugar some because of insulin resistance and it’s also common that because of insulin resistance people actually need more protein. We require insulin to utilize protein in the diet and make and maintain lean mass. One of the key strategies to reverse insulin resistance is to shrink fat cells (lose body fat) and grow muscle (give glucose more places to go).
Prioritizing protein may accomplish both of those things faster. Eating less fat while increasing the protein will also lower the overall requirements for insulin in the body so the impact on glucose will be less too.
Eating lots of fat and only 40g protein is not helping either of the things needed to reverse insulin resistance. It can make it worse. Once again this should be treated an “opinion” not medical advice and you should check with your doctor because there are many factors that can play a role. Have a great day!
