The buttons are perfect with the yarn and texture. Totally worth it! My yarn expense tolerance rises with my experience and increased knowledge. 3 years ago me “$50 for one project?? That’s a bit extravagant.” Current me “What a bargain!”
Thank you! I think they are too! I can absolutely see that! I feel like I have a healthy mix of splurge and steal yarn and garments. But it is totally personal preference! As long as you love what you're making!
The buttons will look perfect on the cardigan! It's a good thing you DIDN'T REALIZE THE PRICE, because then you might not have gotten them. That cardigan will always be special.
Might I recommend the Sofie scarf for your leftover dress yarn. It could be a cute accessory for your neck or hair. I see is as a good combo if you want to keep your outfit neutral or if you clothes are more bold keeping accessories more subdued. I agree those buttons are beautiful!
I think most of us have made a purchase without realise the price tag. The buttons are absolutely gorgeous though. Loving the emoji code at the end of the videos 😁 🐑🐏
🐑 it’s kind of like our little secret! Totally just realized I forgot to add one in the last podcast 😭 keep y’all on your toes! I do love the buttons even if it means I can’t treat myself to coffee for the next year 😂
Love the buttons!!!! Also your interchangeable needles set may have come with or you can probably purchase stoppers that screw in to the ends of your cable so you can put the tips on another cable and work another project while you save the stitches on the other until you come back. So assuming you have a second cable that might be an option for multiple projects that use same needle size.
Happy to have found your channel! I am listening while knitting on gift socks! The details of the dress are amazing and I'm so amazed you went to all that
The fact that you knitted a whole dress is freakin amazing. OMGoodness. Your cardigan has lovely texture. LOL, your antler buttons story, but I think they were so worth it as they're unique and they were recycled/upcycled into something wonderful and useful.
Love the podcast! Girrrrllll! You knit a dress - A DRESS 🤯🤯🤯 That is amazing! And buttons - we all do it. I have a serious button problem. They are durable and can be used again and again (that’s what I tell myself). You'll recycle them when your sweater wears out.
You’re doing a great job Nora. I am so impressed that you finished that dress. I don’t know if I would’ve made it through the miles of stockinette stitch. After your last video, I did consider buying yarn for the dress, and then I realized that the likelihood that I would finish it was pretty close to zero. Lol
Thank you so much! It was indeed a lot of stockinette, but I think it’s a great project to have long term and just work on it when you can! She also has a pattern for the Allgood Tee, which might be a good way to dip your toe in before you commit!!
I’m from northeast Pennsylvania so I smiled every time you said buttons. Apparently we have an accent and we omit T’s in words like button, kitten, mountain. Kinda like Boston omits R’s. Anyway I think the buh’uns are perfect!
Thanks for sharing your knitting adventures! Your buttons are beautiful for your cardigan - they will be worth the fortune you spent on them! Buttons can really take a knit to another level ❣️
You are absolutely adorable! Love your energy, love your button choice (don't sweat the price, you're honoring your work with the right finish). I'm also in CT and am looking forward to more episodes!
You might consider alternating skeins of the malibrigo yarn. The way they dye it there can be a very noticeable difference between skeins in the same dye lot. Great podcast.
Take the total body stitch count, for your preferred size in the pattern (don't forget the picked up sts under the arms!) and divide this by your stitches per inch from your gauge swatch. This will tell you what size your finished garment will be (and help you determine what size to make). Hope this makes sense!
That is an excellent button, Nora. At least it was only four…. It happens, lesson learned, right? Plus, your handmade well loved items are worth it! Best of luck, Anna
Hey Nora! You are so much fun to listen to while I'm working on my own projects. Love the buttons -- you're so right, they are perfect. And don't stress the Ranunculus too much. It is an incredible pattern. I often wondered why so many people will knit up so many of them for themselves. Well now I know why. I just finished my second one. First one size 8, second one size 3. Totally different yarns on each and I used the suggested needle sizes. The best part is you don't really need to decide or settle on a size until Section 4. Yours will be beautiful ❤
This comment is actually so helpful! I have been going back and forth on how to start the thing, but I might just dive in and hope for the best! Thank you for sharing!!!
I love so much about your podcast. The buttons truly are perfect for the cardigan! You are funny and adorable, look forward to following your knitting journey!
You have made such lovely things and have also inspired me to restart my knitting podcast. thank you. I look forward to seeing what other projects you make in the future.
I happened to come across your podcast and you are adorable! Your dress was a major accomplishment and it looks awesome on you. I love the button story too! I can easily see this happens often to people. I can't believe they are made out of antlers! My husband is a hunter and we have tons of deer antlers in the garage. I'm going to tell him to learn how to make buttons in his retirement! He can sell them so I have more money for yarn! LOL
This was so fun Nora. I too purchased some pricey buttons. It only happens once though. The fisherman’s wool is a excellent yarn and a workhorse. Thanks for being such a great host.
I just ran into your podcast in my recommendations - and I LOVE IT! You are so delightfully adorable! I love your antler button story - its something I think most of us are guilty of. The good news is that you will always have a funny story to go with them, and they are soooo perfect for your sweater. I think that it was money well spent (even if it was a bit of a shock at the time!)
Thank you so much!!! I love that we've all been there before 😂 I genuinely do think that they were worth it! If I gave myself time to consider it, I am sure that I would have gone back to buy them anyway
Oh no! I totally feel that with the buttons. I did the same thing with tea once and spent sooo much money it was embarrassing. They are beautiful buttons and go stunningly with your cardigan 💚🧶💚
I am so happy I came across your podcast. I love your take on the Ranunculus. I am an experienced knitter and have tried this in the past...unsuccessfully... but after watching your podcast, I am going to give it another try today. If I should fail again, I'll be making another Love Note. Your knitting is beautiful and I love your dress. Look forward to watching all your episodes.
Thank you for the confidence booster. I have been working on it all weekend and just finished Section 3 Yoke. I hope to have it ready for Rhinebeck. @@akaNoraKnits
Really enjoyed your podcast. Have considered letting the sleeve hems fold up? They looked good that way. The dress s a major accomplishment! Congratulations 🎉 love the buttons. I always believe that buttons deserve an upgrade. 😉
Right?! You actually make a good point-I tend to be the person who has a dress from Walmart with shoes that cost 10 times as much. Maybe that’s just my move 🤷🏼♀️
I douse blocking mats. You know those cheap holiday table cloths that have the fuzzy backing. From target or Walmart. The top is plastic. I lay it out on the carpet and pin my stuff to dry. Works perfectly. I bought one a few Easter ago and still use it.
Great idea! I actually use foam workout flooring mats from Five Below-they’re huge and way more affordable than blocking mats! But I’ll have to keep your idea in mind next time I need a little more real estate 😅
You are too cute! Yes, those buttons were meant to be….they couldn’t be more perfect. Love the story your cardigan now has. You will treasure it all the more now.
Yes, I am the same with buttons - I like low contrast or matching the item. Years ago, I even replaced buttons that were too contrasting on store bought clothing. And, yes, some of the “fancy” buttons at JoAnn are very high priced. I’ve found really nice buttons that were fairly priced on Etsy. Those buttons do look great with your cardigan. 😊
Just stumbled upon your channel and really glad I did! You are a delight to watch. I laughed out loud at your comment about something out there missing an antler. I believe just about everyone has done exactly what you did in regard to not paying attention to the price but at least you have ended up with a spectacular looking button/cardigan combo! Cannot wait for more content and really like your editing and insertions! Keep it up and thanks a lot!
I have done this also but with fabric. I think, oh it can't be too expensive since it is such a small piece :D Then at checkout, I am like What? for that little piece of fabric? But yeah, those buttons are gorgeous, look perfect with the cardigan, and if they bring you happiness then they are worth it!
The buttons are fabulous and perfect! Since you mentioned you've never really worked with 100% pure wool before, I wonder if the scent you noticed is just the sheepy lanolin smell. It does really put some people off. Fishermen's Wool definitely is on the rustic/natural side in that way. That said, with Amazon you never know how long it could have been in storage and perhaps did actually get musty. You could take a skein to the Yarn Barn or another yarn store and ask them what they think, especially since you may need to make sure to wash it specially if it is NOT a natural smell.
Someone else had mentioned this! I always wondered what that “sheepy” scent was that people loved so much. I have to go sniff some other yarns and see what it is! Thank you!
Well, yes, of course you want good buttons! All that work, that time, the love, the planning and dreaming... don't apologize! If you can't find the ones you want, you can always buy fimo and make the buttons of your dreams in the exact right color and size. The only thing, you sort of have to take care of them and be sure to hand wash, But you should be handwashing your knitted things anyway, because they are WORKS OF ART. Just follow the directions on the back of the package. Gotta have excellent/perfect buttons that you love.
This is by far my newest favorite podcast! Love the production and your personality. I’m also obsessed with the top you’re wearing. You mentioned you made it. Would you mind sharing the details? Thanks!
Oh my goodness THANK YOU! 🥰 yes i did make it and I wish I could be of more help to direct you to a pattern, but it was a hack of a pattern I own that is no longer in production. The pattern was that of a men’s button down shirt and I used those pattern pieces for the sleeves & back, and genuinely just cut out the pattern pieces for the front of the button down, but sewed them together, and cut a v-neck! This fabric is a pain to sew, but it does promote raw edges, which really make this blouse what it is! I hope that makes sense and is helpful!
Love the color you picked for your Ranunculus. I have been holding off on making that pattern as well ...but I didn't realize it took so little yarn....so I may have to take a look at it. You're too funny! Really loving your podcast ❤️
I love your content. I feel like I'm talking to a friend like " girl! You said how much for some buttons?" Lol btw after seeing them I think they were definitely worth it! I don't have any friends that I can talk to about knitting and all the things that we get excited about and my fiance can only understand so much 😂. I'm so excited to watch you grow !!❤
Thank you so much! Sounds like we have a lot in common!!! My boyfriend asked me one day, “why do I know what an Italian bind off” is? 😂😂😂 it’s true love! I’m glad you’re hanging out with us here 💛 we can chat knitting all day!
My friend reccomended your channel to me and I loved it! Great video and the buttons were totally worth the money (although I would have cried at the price 🤣) but they are so perfect! The dress is stunning amd loving the cardigan see you next time!
Totally love your podcast and energy. I had to laugh with you at the button fiasco. Trust me, we’ve all done that at some point. Your knitting is absolutely beautiful.
My first time watching, so glad I found your podcast because you are so inspiring! OMG that dress! Honestly, I think it's supposed to be a potato sack. A beautiful, flowy potato sack. It is supposed to have 12 inches of positive ease. I love that idea, and want to knit it so badly! I just worry about butt sag. I'm wondering if a wool or a linen yarn would be better to avoid the sag. I think cotton would stretch out then not bounce back.
I am such a happy potato sack lover! It’s so effortless! I originally wanted to knit it in linen or at least a linen blend, but after seeing all of my favorite podcasters struggle through their summer knits with linen, I got scared. Please let me know if you give it a try! Thanks for watching ☺️
I would have bought the buttons too, even if I knew the price, they are so perfect! Love the yarn choice for the ranunculus! I’m a new subscriber, until next time😊😊
this is my first video of yours I have watched but I just want to say the quality of the video is super good. i aspire to have a video come out this well, but so far I keep everything private because I'm not -really- happy with anything I've made. Good work, my dude.!
Hello from Ontario, i enjoyed your video very much and look forward to more. I wonder if they would have let you exchange the buttons if you'd gone right back in? Oh well, lesson learned...and they are perfect. I tend to splurge on buttons....it's like jewelry for your knitted garment, right? I have some coming right now from a website in Quebec called Trukerie. Its french, but there is a translate button, I'm sure. Have a look, and remember it will be Canadian $....which probably turns out that you'd pay about 25% less in USD. My cardigan just needs one more sleeve, and it will be ready for it's cherry-wood buttons!
Hello!!!! Thank you so much 🥰 I am sure that they would have made an exception had I asked, but I was happy to accept my fate at that point 😅 I love the sound of that! I actually want to see if I can make some cherry wood buttons for an upcoming project! Stay tuned!!
The buttons are perfect..The dress looks great on you.i showed it to my daughter and she said yes you can knit one for me. Did I ask if you wanted me to knit one for you? Shee said I know that was your next question 😂. Maybe after the holidays 😊
Hahahaa my mother is very lucky that she doesn’t knit 😂 it will be such a great long term project though! With no rush, you’ll so appreciate having that stockinette in the round!
I’m loving your podcast! I started with the Rhinebeck episode and then since you’ve only been at this a short time I went to the beginning. I’m sure I’ll be caught up in a day or two. You’re very entertaining!! You must also be artistic. How do you make your graphics? What app do you use? Keep up the great work!! I hope you’re enjoying yourself doing this. ❤😊
Thank you so much!!! I have creativity running through my veins and I do find this to be a very satisfying way to practice it! I use a combination of ProCreate, AI, Canva and the whole Adobe family for my graphics. I just find it fun to learn new things! I appreciate you being here and enjoying 🥰
I recently bought that Lion Brand fishermen wool yarn so now I'm intrigued about your basket weave cardigan. I see on Ravelry it calls for DK weight but the yarn is worsted. So my Q is, did you get gauge or close?
Sorry I started to respond to this when it came in but wanted to make sure I double checked my gauge first! So the pattern kind of strangely states that it is intended for DK weight yarn. However, she knits the sample in a DK + Lace weight yarn, so I’m not sure how she got that. This is my second time knitting it and both times I have used the recommended 5mm needles for the body and a worsted weight yarn and have gotten gauge or very close to! Definitely try a swatch and make sure you block it because the weave does open up a bit after blocking. My first version was knit in a slightly bulkier yarn and I chose to steam block it so that it wouldn’t grow too much. You share iOS be fine with the fishermen’s wool though! Keep me posted if you give it a try!
@akaNoraKnits thanks, I will give it a try. I bought the yarn on sale a couple weeks ago with no plans so it was serendipity to see you knitting with it :)
Omg I feel like mits would be so cute! Maybe I pull a color from the tweedy bits and add a bright mohair to soften them up a bit too! Great idea! Thank you!
There’s no shame in asking the price of things in shops. I’ve learned the hard way and now always ask if I'm not sure and will say I want something less costly for the project. Your buttons will look great; hand made buttons are pricey. Do love the sweater pattern .
Thank you!! It was exactly two months of pretty consistent knitting, but I know there was one week in there when I didn’t work on it at all. Please keep me posted if you decide to give it a shot!
Thank you! It was actually a sort of hack of a men’s button down shirt pattern that is no longer sold. But I used the pattern pieces of that for the back and sleeves, then kind of self-drafted the front piece!
Hey Nora - When I used Fisherman’s wool it smelled like sheep , which I love! Is it possible you have never worked with something so full of lanolin? - Norah
from Nora to Norah--YES that is very much a possibility! A few people have pointed this out. I have to do a little more investigating still to find out if that's the case with this particular yarn!
The arrangement of the knits, purls and increases and decrease do give a very different pattern on the WS. I will try and remember to show a clip of what it looks like in the next episode!
I shop at thrift shops for buttons. You wouldn't believe the beautiful buttons you can get on a cardigan that cost $5. I have made great finds. Just throw out the garment you take the buttons off.
FYI, deer shed their antlers every year, so he’s ok! 😅
Thank you!!!! Hahaha. I feel better about it now! 🦌
I enjoy your show. I like your aesthetic. It’s clear that invest much time & energy into your show. 🥰 I look forward to upcoming episodes. 😊
Thank you so much for this 💛
Nora, the buttons are perfection for that! $10 per is a bit steep, but your labors deserve that luxe touch!
They do!!! We’ve earned the buttons 🥰
The buttons will look perfect on the cardigan! It's a good thing you DIDN'T REALIZE THE PRICE, because then you might not have gotten them. That cardigan will always be special.
So true! Thank you!
Those buttons are amazing actually. You will cherish those
Thank you!!!! I think so too 🥰
I say the buttons are worth it. It's going to be a staple wardrobe piece, so might as well have the finishing touches you really love.
Totally agree!!! They are also keeping me motivated through the end of this project!
Love the button story! We have ALL been there! And the buttons are gorgeous! 😂

I absolutely get the button trap- I have bought things when I didn't realize how expensive they were.... but then I forget in time and enjoy.
🐑🐏🐑 Those buttons ARE perfect! Now the sweater will be a family heirloom 🙂
🐑 🥰 thank you so much! What a great way of thinking of it!
Thank you!!!! Yes! A DRESS! For real 🥰 I love your philosophy!
Those buttons were perfect. Also, even when the sweater wears out you can save the buttons for another project!
Definitely!!! If we’re going to invest anywhere in a project, it really should be in the hard finishes that we can reuse in the future!
You’re doing a great job Nora. I am so impressed that you finished that dress. I don’t know if I would’ve made it through the miles of stockinette stitch. Enjoyed your video and I too have paid that much for buttons. I think uou made a wise choice for your cardigan. So worth it!
The entire time i was thinking Show us them buttons! And when I saw them they are indeed very beautiful
🐑 - good energy - like the little “asides” of your thoughts.
🐑 thank you 🥰
Thanks for sharing your knitting adventures! Your buttons are beautiful for your cardigan - they will be worth the fortune you spent on them! Buttons can really take a knit to another level ❣️
I think you are sooo right. Plus they will help motivate me to get through the button band! Win win!
Loved your button story! I've totally done that... And they are perfect for that cardigan! I'm so impressed with your dress! 😁
You are so fun to watch. Buttons are great. I'm glad you weren't able to return them. Good luck with your podcast. You are off to a great start.

Aww thank you!!! Omg yes. I am honoring my work! This sweater deserves these buttons! Thank you!!!

Yes they do!!!

I definitely will consider making my own buttons when the project is right! I’m always happy to get lost in a new crafty rabbit hole!
Great video especially the swatches
Thank you!
I have done that (button purchase). I haven't recently because I was embarrassed, sickened and happy. Not a lesson you quickly forget.
Certainly not! Thank god they are so beautiful and will be going on such a staple piece. They will be loved for years
Love the color you picked for your Ranunculus. I have been holding off on making that pattern as well ...but I didn't realize it took so little yarn....so I may have to take a look at it.
You're too funny! Really loving your podcast ❤️
Please join me in this Ranunculus journey!!! I feel so late to the party lol. And I appreciate that! So much 🥰
So beautiful!!! ❤
Loved today’s video! Those buttons look great with the cardigan! 😍
Thank you so much! I really am SO happy with them 🥰
Great song!
Thank you 🥰🎵
🐑 Great episode. Love the buttons for your cardigan. The size makes me think they are from a deer.
🐑 thank you so much! I really do love the way they pair with the cardigan. Hopefully it will motivate me to get through the button band 😅
My friend reccomended your channel to me and I loved it! Great video and the buttons were totally worth the money (although I would have cried at the price 🤣) but they are so perfect! The dress is stunning amd loving the cardigan see you next time!
Awww thank you!!! 🥰 this made my day!
Totally love your podcast and energy. I had to laugh with you at the button fiasco. Trust me, we’ve all done that at some point. Your knitting is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so so much! More than anything, thanks for laughing with me! It makes me so happy! Thank you!
The perfect button indeed, and a lesson learned, all in all a great success!🧶🧶🧶
I’m a new subscriber, until next time😊😊
They really are! Thank you!!! 🥰
this is my first video of yours I have watched but I just want to say the quality of the video is super good. i aspire to have a video come out this well, but so far I keep everything private because I'm not -really- happy with anything I've made. Good work, my dude.!
Thanks so much!!!! Ya just gotta go for it! You can’t improve something you never start! Good luck!
I would try a 4.5
Hello from Ontario, i enjoyed your video very much and look forward to more.
Your perfect buttons are probably handmade - and when you have finished your beautiful cardi, you'd have to keep it in a safe! ;-)
I think you’re right! We might need to start getting these projects insured 😂
Just found your podcast! Your dress is beautiful ❤🇨🇦
Thank you so much! It was so worth the knit!
Just subscribed … 🎉❤ loved your episodes and I’m sending all the encouragements to keep going!
Thank you so much!!
that last ball of yarn will come in handy later if you need to repair the dress
Yes definitely!
I am 71 knitting from Hawaii if you knit any shawls I would love to see them. Thanks for your time. I enjoy your program. Mahalo.
Oh my goodness, thank you for joining me!!!! I haven’t knit any yet, but who knows what the future holds! Thank you!
❤❤❤
Make mitts and a hat with the leftovers, possibly?
Omg I feel like mits would be so cute! Maybe I pull a color from the tweedy bits and add a bright mohair to soften them up a bit too! Great idea! Thank you!
There’s no shame in asking the price of things in shops. I’ve learned the hard way and now always ask if I'm not sure and will say I want something less costly for the project. Your buttons will look great; hand made buttons are pricey. Do love the sweater pattern .
How long did it take you to make the dress? I love it!
Thank you!! It was exactly two months of pretty consistent knitting, but I know there was one week in there when I didn’t work on it at all. Please keep me posted if you decide to give it a shot!
Nora what blouse pattern did you make - your blouse is beautiful.
Thank you! It was actually a sort of hack of a men’s button down shirt pattern that is no longer sold. But I used the pattern pieces of that for the back and sleeves, then kind of self-drafted the front piece!
Congats - it s a beautiful self-drafted pattern
Hey Nora - When I used Fisherman’s wool it smelled like sheep , which I love! Is it possible you have never worked with something so full of lanolin? - Norah
from Nora to Norah--YES that is very much a possibility! A few people have pointed this out. I have to do a little more investigating still to find out if that's the case with this particular yarn!
Curious to know if the sweater basket pattern is repeated on the WS side or purl?
The arrangement of the knits, purls and increases and decrease do give a very different pattern on the WS. I will try and remember to show a clip of what it looks like in the next episode!
Thank you.@@akaNoraKnits
It’s because it is a natural untreated wool
I feel so seen that you also have button fever.. i have a serious button buying problem rn (it’s cardi season, I had to)
These cardigans!!! Not only do we do more work to knit them flat, but then we have to hunt for the buttons?! But they are so worth it 😅
I shop at thrift shops for buttons. You wouldn't believe the beautiful buttons you can get on a cardigan that cost $5. I have made great finds. Just throw out the garment you take the buttons off.
I literally just thought to do that!!!! It has been a new fun hunt for my thrift store days!
I would swap the buttons for some plain cheap ones and re-donate the item rather than throwing out good clothes.
So smart!!!!
The cardigan definitely looks better above the hips...
I was thinking trying a 7
That is what I’ve settled on at this point so definitely stay tuned to see how that goes!
7. Is my size for that yarn
That’s a funny lesson learned and for goodness sake dont lose the buttons before they get on the sweater!! - so $10 apiece button😱
Oh I am keeping them in a very safe place! $10 a button. At least they are pretty!
How did your sister like the Bunny you made? 🐑
🐑 thank you!!! She loved it!
I guess I don’t get it. I don’t think that is too much for nice buttons
