    Alienware's return to form. Their last great desktop replacement upgrade-able laptops like this were the AW17, AW18, M17x and M18x. Can't wait for this.

    I wish it was $1949.00 more like $2500.00 with a 6 core, 8G ram, spin drive and 60 refresh rate, still impressive and I don't see anything competing with it. Not sure why I would want 4k on a 17 inch if at all OLED would be nice.

      You know what ?? The design just looks like another laptop which it is standard gaming design and still not impressive like they did back in the old days. In my opinion, the old design model still look much badass and way futuristic. If only, Alienware M17x R4, M18x and mALX model come as a new laptop with the new powerful specs today, it would look more impressive than this one.

      I was thinking the same but trust me it's far from it, you can't even access the NVIDA panel, meaning if you have an 4k display or TV it will not let you play in 4k. I'm trying one more thing before giving up on it and if that doesn't work I will call them and return the unit and trust me I will never use dell for anything $4k for what to get 5 more fps over my desktop intel 3930K / gtx1070 32 gig of DDR3 preforms almost the same but is able to render in 4k

      You'll be fine, even though Tech is a double edged sword, quick to be cutting edge and quick to be obsolete.
      (well not obsolete, but no longer as flashy when something new comes along)
      I am still happy with my 2016 Alienware 15" R3 GTX1070 and can play all modern games comfortably at 60 FPS, high settings at 1080P and hadn't the need to get an Amplifier yet.
      (Xcom 2, 4K high settings runs reasonable!)
      So your machine will do you good for more years than mine at 1080P gaming and we still have the amplifier for 4K gaming.
      The only thing I think holding our machines back is reaching a CPU bottleneck in a few years.

    Word of advice to anyone bying the alienware area 1 if you buy the product with rtx 2060 installed you will not get fan cooling system with side fan cooling!! and the ac adapters will be less powerful ie one that built handle rtx 2060. If you decide up grade later you would need to get heatsink and side fans as well as an upgraded ac adapters. So if you plan to upgrade in near future my suggestion would be upgrade the graphics card there and then when you buy the laptop do yourself a favour save your wallet that headache

    • @hassanaslam6008
      @hassanaslam6008 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrm40 I agree. It is highly likely that you have to order the part directly from alienware which will be priced higher. Also, we do not know if next gen intel chips will support LGA 1151 socket. In my opinion Alienware's hands are tied down and what they say should be taken with a grain of salt but it is great to see them at least trying it. You also need to be more technically savvy to change the components as it will not be as easy changing components in a desktop.

    Huge "diminishing returns" after 1440p and ~ 120hz so the "sweet spot" is really 1440p / 120hz. 1440p looks A LOT better than 1080p but 4K doesn't look much if any better than 1440p for most games I've played (MANY) and frame rates above ~ 100-120hz aren't going to somehow make you a pro player or even provide you an advantage period.
    So IMO, people are just throwing their money away when spent on 240hz and 4K gaming monitors.
    Currently, the very BEST overall gaming monitors are 3440X1440P - Ultra Wide / Curved - 21:9 - G-SYNC - 100-120HZ - 4ms response time.
    In the future (and now to a limited degree...) of course there are monitors with the following specs: 4K - 144HZ - HDR - G-SYNC - Curved / Ultra Wide (21:9 aspect ratio) - 4ms response time - etc.. I've seen a $5000.00 65' Monitor on Amazon with similar specs but that's obviously a TON of money and would require at least 2X 2080Ti's to take advantage of. Even then you'd probably be struggling to maintain ~ 100HZ on more demanding games. Regardless, said monitor paired with the optimal gaming rig would be an insane experience to behold I'm sure and SUPER expensive...

    Dell has a very bad history of releasing GPU 6 months after official release. Making their new systems coming out way behind the competition.
    This all sounds good. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on the parts being ready as soon as Nvidia release them.

    • @AdmiralBison
      @AdmiralBison 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is still always the amplifier...but I know.
      I wonder if there could potentially be SLI/Crossfire (not sure if AMD still does that) abilities if desktop upgradable laptops take off now that eGPUs are becoming more common?

    • @rdalcroft3934
      @rdalcroft3934 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Duane Locsin SLI and Crossfire were good back in the day. But the trend now even with desktops is that support for it is dwindling. Most DX12 games can support it, but developers just don’t want to implement it. Even with the new NVIDIA RTX card. You see now they only support SLI on 2 cards now not 3 way or 4 way.
      With less and less support for it. And the single card performance is now good enough.
      I’d say if they decided to make an 18’’ version of the laptop then maybe. But remember these are custom full size RTX2080 cards. They are not mobile MXM versions of the cards. Making them bigger in size with custom connectors.
      Also just Incase you were thinking it. The Graphics amplifier is a standalone device. It’s either one or the other. It can’t be SLI’d with the internal card.

But the fact they are excited about upgradebilty just like Tim Cook was when introducing "New" iPhone features that competitors had generations prior to iPhone XS, fake shy excitement. Alienware just admit you were wrong leaving upgradebilty wagon, and realized lot of us just love tinkering with our laptops. True users do...

    This thing is fucking useless, we have the graphics amplifier. Why would you buy a big ass thing. It needs 2 power supplies to run it. And you don’t even know if they will be able to make future graphic cards. Amd and nvidia said that they have no idea that there future gpu dies will even fit on dells boards to upgrade. If your thinking of buying this please don’t. I personally think your waisting money. Dell we want to know that all of this will be upgradable in the future. And I know it’s new but I really want somthing like this but I want it knowing I can upgrade it not maybe upgrade it. If I want a 2080 I’m going to buy a 2080 but what about the future platform gpu dies??? There’s no way you can convince me that you can build them without knowing what the power consumptions or size of the dies are going to be. I really think this will be a flop. Sorry dell I love your stuff. But I really think your reaching for somthing that isn’t going to work in the future. And for over $2000.00 to start in Canada I really think you need to show that the gpu will be upgradable. To me I really think your not going to be there for support later down the line.

    To bad this all ended up being lies! No upgradability at all!

      Not exactly. You can upgrade as long as it’s in the same generation lol.

    Seems pretty overpriced. I looked on the Dell website. Starts at 2500 and it only comes with the gtx 1070 at that price.

    nice commitment statement to future proofing this platform however how many times have we the public heard this BS before only to find out they no longer support your system. We can only hope.

      Exactly, upgrade to our proprietary slot for the cost of a new laptop and until we stop supporting it at the 30 series gfx.
