    Definitely one of the better diode laser reviews - by someone who at least has some previous experience of CO2 lasers !

      Thanks! I put it into a standard aluminum picture frame without a picture. The backing came with some hanging tabs I just put on a wall nail. Essentially just like hanging a regular frame,

    Great review, and your projects really turned out great!
    I was wondering about your ventilation solution, do you eliminate all the smell with the enclosure setup?
    Or does it just remove the worst of it?

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just the worst. There will always be a little bit floating around the interior of your workspace since you will have to open the enclosure eventually. Also materials will off-gas for a while after cutting. Its a massive difference though.

    Nice review Justin! I purchased the D1 Pro about 7mos ago and have loved it. I got it mainly to do add-ons for my woodturning(pens, logo on products,etc.). Have you seen the infrared 1064nm laserhead for the D1 Pro? I would appreciate your thoughts of adding that to the base setup for metal and acrylic engraving. Enjoying ypur so far as I just found you yesterday!! LOL
    Have a great day and thanx for your time!

    • @justinlaser

      I believe thats the Infrared version? Very cool little machine but with that laser wavelength you are only going to be doing metal and plastic marking. Not going to be great for organics like wood/etc. I would love to try one the portability is really cool!

    Great Video Justin. Where did you get your idea/settings to remove only the black paint from the glass without etching the glass? This is exactly what I am wanting to dobut your video is the only one I have seen doing just this. I dont want to etch the glass, I just want to remove the black paint just as you did here.

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Its a common practice especially with diode lasers like the D1 Pro that cant engrave on clear materials. I think its done a lot on mirrors as well.

    • @arloames4517
      @arloames4517 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have been cutting some cardstock and a lot of matboard. Works really well. Some colors scorch a fair bit, but many kinds of matboard cut with a lightly toasted edge.

  • @84bmw325e
    @84bmw325e 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yeah, the thumb screw. That isn't really the problem, it is the soft aluminum on the laser housing. The first time someone tightens it to much you get the indent, then when you do another project that is 1 mm thicker it goes to that indent. I have had to file the the module a few times to get it to set properly. A small knob would be better I think. Did you end up removing the shield?

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I did remove the shield. Lightyears better to deal with haha.

    • @justinlaser

      There are risers available. 3D engraving not going to happen with this type of laser.

    Hi mate thanks for the video, I'm really struggling with where to buy this laser from. And also confused about the warranty situation. If it breaks does it have to get sent to China ? Or somewhere in the UK. Really want to start engraving but there seems to be multiple websites for xtool. Hard to tell if they are legit.
    Could you possibly give me the website which I could purchase from? Any help greatly appreciated my man. Thanks again!!!!!
    From UK.

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello! So yeah if you buy from somewhere like xTool it will be shipping from China but they ship all over the world and have the process down. I would have to double check the warranty info but I havent heard any real horror stories about getting things fixed from there. Usually these companies (the good ones) will ship the part out really quickly. Thats the best part about these little lasers is everything is easy to swap. Here is a link to the UK version of xTool: geni.us/xTool-UK

    $994.49 USD. Feels really over priced, for something so simple. You can get a Monport 40W Pro Lightburn-Supported CO2 Laser Engraver with CW3000 Water Cooling System for $809.99 and have a real laser with lightburn and a chiller and still have ~$200 in your pocket to play with.

      @BenPresland 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was wondering if I could do this. I had a bit of wood that had just been cut out lift up, then before I could grab it out, the laser moved over to it and moved the whole thing.

    • @terrybeckelheimer3633
      @terrybeckelheimer3633 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BenPresland yes you can and it makes alignment easier. Just remember to wear safety glasses or a laser safe enclosure.

    SOOOO, where's the resource to explain what settings are proper for what projects?

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There is no one answer. You start with the material settings xTool offers on their website and test from there. Different materials, different machines, even the humidity level in the air can change the outcomes. I DO list my power and speed settings for each project in this video though.

  • @That_big_guy
    @That_big_guy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Decent review but im guessing you didnt bother to even glance over the specs of the machine or what its capable of. The max dpi on the d1 is 317. Your dpi is dictated by the lasers spot size. The d1 has a spot soze of 0.08 on the lower wattage heads and a 0.1 size on the 40w head. None of the heads are capable of 400dpi. Then again im still running the oroginal d1 non pro version. Coming from a background of being a cnc operator in the machining world gave me a little head start over most and ive gotten this machine to do things everyone else said it could never do.

  • @Chucka1463
    @Chucka1463 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm getting so tired of the CO2 laser folks looking down on the diode laser movement. Saying that the "40 watt" is overkill is a real Thirston Howell III comment. I recently bought a big bed Atomstack (400mm x 850mm) with a 48 watt laser for $1,200. There's no way a CO2 comes close to that. And, Atomstack is now selling a 70w diode laser for under $2,000. I believe the days of a CO2 laser with their huge cumbersome footprint, their limited life expensive-to-replace CO2 tube, their huge kerf, and their ever present scorching are numbered. CO2 lasers are to diode lasers as DVDs are to streaming.

    Amazing one just loved it and got inspired for you @Justin Laser , I tried to do that but i got honeycomb pattern on glass so what should i do to avoid that? And we have to put colored part on top facing right ? Please help me out that would be much appreciated
    Thank you so much @JustinLaser

    • @justinlaser
      @justinlaser  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! So you technically dont need to put the honeycomb under the glass at all since you wont be cutting anything. You can put it directly on that metal sheet or if thats too dirty just a piece of aluminum foil. You can see in the video I actually masked mine with light brown paper but.I dont suggest that unless you pay attention you dont want to start fires. And yes, you want the painted surface at the top. Its not a true glass engraving since we are just removing paint.
