I'm so glad she is putting out more frequent videos again. If there is a plant hobbyist whose advice I trust, it is this one. Expansive knowledge on the plants I like also.
When I saw your video title, I was so hyped and had a long list of witty, if not questionable comments ready for every smash. Unfortunately, there was not a single smash for me. I mean, there were a couple I’d take home, but no keepers. Kinda felt like being on the carnivore diet at a vegan restaurant. I think you started smashing cause some where so ugly, the ok ones looked good. 😂 Enjoy these vids. Definitely smash on that.
You crack me up. Now I can’t un see “spider mite damage variegation” lol. Respectfully disagree on variegated vittarifolium, but wouldn’t buy it for the price I see it. Fun idea for a video.
You really brought the sass w this one!! Loving it. I also don’t care much for variegated anthurium 90% of the time I strongly prefer the more typical presentations of anthurium. They’re already so stunning!
I think when it comes to this, it’s always subjective. Before i dont really like variegated plants, but when i started to see it myself, omg its just caught my eyes and heart to love it more and more….
Suspected it before this video but now confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt, anthuriums aren't my cup of tea. I saw maybe three I'd smash. Loving your increased content and appreciate the knowledge you share. I learn so much from you.
Just wait until the fancy anthurium video before you make that determination… these are pretty much the worst of what the anthurium genus has to offer. But of course, to each their own ✨🪴❤️
That’s interesting because I find my anthurium get waaaaaay fewer pests than any of my other plants but I do keep them in semi hydro which helps. To each their own though!
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet I'm going by what other "plant tubers" say. Are you saying anthuriums aren't more prone to pest infestation? If that's the case, I would be open to try a more easy-going anthurium, especially the longboy ones!
In my experience, anthurium are waaaaay less vulnerable to pests than alocasia, philodendron and monstera are. Spider mites have only ever really attacked the new leaves on mine and thrips will get them but their leaves are really thick so it takes the thrips way longer to actually destroy them. Never had mealy bugs or scale on them. No issues with fungus gnats since they are in semi hydro. They’re more susceptible to things like powdery mildew (which is only an issue in terrariums/low airflow environments) and bacterial and fungal spots which are usually very easy to prevent with proper care. Start with something like a vittarifolium or pallidiflorum if you like the super long bois! Queen anthurium is really only for masochists but the Esmeralda version from Ecuagenera or the waroqueanum x waterburyanum are good choices. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
When it comes to anthoriums, i think HOOKERII deserves the smash in general. I have been collecting different var antfol of hybrid hookerii or jenmanii, and they are gorgeous. The white variegated you had shown is only few of those common variegated ones, you should look on those pink siam diamond, or look for black base with red/pink variegations.. they are just awesome…
In my opinion none of these are esthetically pleasing. If I found any of these in my collection I would be looking for pest infestation, boron deficiency, ph problems, etc. These plants are as appeasing as Crocs.
The lux lives rent free in my head. The pink aces I like a lot and I do think some of the others I’d pick up if I found them in a garden center for sure. I also like that white marbled pap but the rest are kind of trash. I didn’t want to have no smashes though lol. Someone else called me out on that!
That was hilarious lol, I actually love gold / yellow var but I DON"T love sick looking plants...and you're right in that a lot of var anthurium both look sick and are unlikely to be stable. The diarrhea ones...omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Variegation is expensive and can be a pain. So I'll pass. Still love the variegated Monsteras, syngoniums and scindapsus. But even Philos, I'm losing interest in the cost and effort.
This was a fun video 😂 Totally agree that for the most part they just look sick. A handful are interesting but definitely not for me (which is great for my wallet lol)
I have always found that like 97% of variegated anthurium look sick, malnourished and just plain ugly, I swear that unless I was told it was variegated I'd think it was dying 😂😂, this video was like if Joan Rivers had a horticultural version of fashion police, AHmazing. ❤😂😂
You wanna know the funniest thing - my papililaminum pollinated itself and one of the seedlings came out… variegated 🤣. I’m torn bc it is ugly but it’s also now my baby, haha!
Highkey it’s giving “lesbian swiping on men on tinder” hahahaha
Variegated anthuriums look sunburned
This wins the comment contest 🤣🤣🤣
OMFG
😂👏OMG I'm on the floor!! 🤣
I feel like I smashed too many of them for that though hahahahaha but I get it
That's why I was feeling like the word "pass" was out of place. It should be "sashay away"!
“What kind of medical attention do you need sir?” 🤣🤣
I’m CONCERNED lol
I do agree that most variegated anthuriums (and many philodendron) just look sickly
Idk I’m kind of a sucker for some of those philodendrons though… def appreciating well grown, green plants more these days though

Hey ya know I do what can ✨🪴❤️
"What happened to its other ear?!?" LOLOL werq girl
I’m still waiting on an answer lol!
Is a variegated anthurium like a rich, red-headed stepchild… ? #onlyaskingquestions 😅
Also I TOTALLY AGREE with the sentiments here.
So many of these are so butt. 💀
Some of the pinks are pretty 🔥 tho
"she has flops too" 🤣👌
I regret not pulling the meme where Ron Swanson says “nature is amazing”

I think you might be right… that anthurium lux at the end lives in my head rent free though
There's been rumor that since most variegated Anthuriums are coming from Indonesia, perhaps some viruses are being introduced? They do look stressed.
Omg that would make sense!
You're slaying it! I think I've seen some artwork framed at the museum that took inspiration from those diarrhea spray plants.
This comment is so funny that it glitched my brain 🤣🤣🤣 dead

Haha it’s all in good fun and I agree anthurium really don’t need variegation… but those showy emergent leaves tho 🤤✨🪴❤️
The hybrid names are throwing me back to constellation creme brulee days 😆
Dude people are selling high variegated Thais as crème brûlée all over Facebook these days asking for over 1k. Delusional

Variegation is so unnecessary on anthuriums

Ah shucks, thank you!
I"m eating breakfast and hearing about diarrhea spray 😍😂
Oooops sowwy ✨🪴❤️
If the variegation makes the plant look twisted and deformed, it isn’t pretty. It looks ill.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
