Rare Anthurium Hybrids and Variegated Plant Show in Indonesia @ Anthuriumdankita

- I’ve covered lots of rare plants events in the past few months, so I decided to try a slightly different format this time… which is to let each vendor select one and only one anthurium of their choice to promote. This will be a shorter episode than what we normally shoot, but it conveys the voice of the growers and sellers rather than mine! Note that we no longer see Anthurium species on sale or display in these events, nearly of plants shown are hybrids or variegated/mutated forms from original species. I guess we have officially entered a new phase in the anthurium era!

That depends… is it grown from seed or propagated vegetatively? Seed grown anthuriums will have vastly different shapes and forms from its parents, but it could still be an original dark phoenix technically.
I was at a ‘big box store’ in Australia and I saw a display of beautiful Anthurium hookeri ‘ Variegated Aurea ‘. They were A$250.00 reduced to A$15.00. I went back a week later, not one was sold. People only want what’s trending on Insta.

For the cheap ones, the variegation and form probably was not as desirable. These were sown from seedlings and each batch of seedling can produce hundreds of plants, hence the fast drop in price. They answer to market supply and demand laws at the end of the day. I would get one though, if its $15
@@onlyplants they had nice colour. I’m surprised no one wanted them. I would have bought one but I have too many now and I these days I’m specialising in Cardiolonchium species. I’m not a huge fan of variegation but I do love the dark forms ( hyperpigmentation ) and the Aureas, ( hypopigmentation ). I’d definitely make room for that Anth. carlablackiae ‘ Long Form ‘.

The original anthuriums come from South America. They were studied and described by botanists, hence the names were assigned.

Whats the deal with all papililaminum being some hybrid??? Are there no "pure" papi anywhere?
Ive seen loads of pure papillilaminums in my previous videos, they were usually mother plant material, for hybridizing. Theres also many forms of pure papi… which can be confusing.
The hybrids are much more desirable at the moment because you can get more unique specimens

we actually have it on our green house. but we don't bring it to the event because the plants were too fragile (since depok is hotter than bogor). i'm with @apexfarmhouse by the way 😁

I love anthurium, but I really don’t like the variegated ones…they just look unwell to me. Not all plants wear variegation well

The types of Anthuriums I love are the ones with the white veins such as A. crystallinum and A. magnificum.
I love it too. I call them silver veins for some reason. They seem to sparkle from up close view

What are the black stones called? Most pots have black stones in. I would like to know the name if you know?
In Indonesia we call it 'Pasir Malang' (eng: Malang sand), pasir malang is a type of sand made from magma or volcanic lava and goes through a rapid cooling process. It is nicknamed 'pasir malang' because it is widely produced and found in volcanoes around Malang City in East Java.
