      THIS is the FIRST time I have heard someone admit this!!! THANK YOU!! I have studied SO hard for 8 years now, all self taught with books and videos and trial n error and there is always this superiority complex I run into with people saying Im not "qualified" to make tinctures / salves or give advice.. This is SO refreshing and wonderful to hear! NOT knocking the courses / teachings at all.. Its just a whole attitude against self taught that is hard to swallow. Bless you!

    Really great video! What would you say the ratio of beeswax to oil is for the salve to harden?

  • @1RandomMiss
    @1RandomMiss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    I’ve always infused my oils by letting the herb infuse in virgin olive oil for 6 weeks, giving it a daily shake. It is a long time, but not if your are making other oils at various times. I used that method because I was concerned about destroying valuable nutrients by using heat. So anyway after the long wait I’d heat up the oil and wax anyway. I totally recommend following this video and not wasting your time like I have been. 👍😀

    • @1RandomMiss
      @1RandomMiss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jmcast3195 I always use fresh herbs. They grown profusely in my yard. Not wanting to waste them got me started utilising their properties. I have heard people using dry herb.

    • @Dragons_Novel
      @Dragons_Novel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You did not waste your time. Your method is exactly how I do it. I've followed Susun Weed's method which is to fill the jar loosely with the herb, then fill the jar with olive oil. I use a butter knife to poke into the mixture to release air pockets. I sit this on a plate on a shelf out of the sun for six weeks. I don't shake it. I don't touch it. After six weeks, I strain the herbs from the oil, melt the beeswax, remove it from heat then add the oil.
      My favourite is plantain ointment. This is the best thing for cuts. When my kids had the chickenpox, I put this on their sores in the morning and at night. There was no itching and no infection because they weren't scratching. Because this ointment works so well, I know Susun Weed's method works.

    • @twistedknotz5485
      @twistedknotz5485 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      When you’re infusing oils it’s actually important to use dried herbs because the fresh herbs have water content that gets mixed in with the carrier oils, which creates an environment for molds and bacteria to grow. The dehydrated herbs still have the properties of the herb and nutrients intact. Fresh herbs are typically best used for things that will be consumed immediately such as teas and decauctions

    • @Dragons_Novel
      @Dragons_Novel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@twistedknotz5485, actually, I've use fresh plantain leaves for my plantain ointment. I've been doing it for almost two decades with no issues. The fresh leaves are soaked in olive oil for 6 weeks. I currently have fresh comfrey and yarrow sitting in oil, and I'm not worried. I've learned from Susun Weed who has been doing this for almost as long as I've been alive. I trust her methods and will follow her advice.

I’m wanting to use organic EVOO and also jojoba oil. I was thinking 2:1, jojoba:EVOO? Also, I’m wanting to infuse meadowsweet and comfrey dry herbs in these carriers. I did notice your ceramic oven top around the ring around the heat elements, did you know you can scrape with a sharp razor oven scraper it brings it back to new and won't damage your ceramic top. I was a little scared of damaging mine when someone told me how to do it but yeah it's a great neat way of getting that off. I leave mine warm a little washing detergent then scrape away.

      I use lavender for antibiotic wound healing. It is also a topical analgesic and will heal burns and take the sting out of bug bites. You could make a salve but I just use it straight. For an extra antiseptic kick, I’ll use it with tea tree. I cured cellulitis on my leg that I gave myself by scratching a bug bite with my garden gloves without thinking, along with Epsom salts baths, though I would have gone to the hospital if it didn’t improve in a few days. I’m not stupid…

I was just watching your clip on making goldenrod tinctures and you say it must be kept in a dark cupboard to minimize losing vitality yet with this infused oil you advise putting it in a sunny place? To my mind, calendula in oil is something quite fragile esp if not completely covered in oil and could go rancid easily. Could you please explain the thinking behind this? Many, many thanks

    Hi thanks for the video. I’m in Australia what are the measurements in grams for the recipe-how much liquid and how much beeswax thanks!

    I always wondered if you can infuse the calendula or other plant matter into Jojoba as jojoba has a more stable shelf life, thereby extends the shelf life of the infused oil as olive oil can become rancid, especially if you add in a natural preservative such as naticide (parfum) or Plantaserv S and an antioxidant such as Rosemary Antioxidant Extract, Vitamin C or Vitamin E.

    Best salve I've found: one part spruce or pine sap. One part beeswax. Two parts olive oil. Melt together and pour in a tin or tiny Ball jar. Done.

    Hi your video is great. Im just wondering if you use 300 degrees farenheit or celcius in preheating your oven? I live in the Philippines and we usually use celcius here. So i dont know which is which. Thanks

    For the oven method, do you use already dried herbs or fresh herbs? Thanks!
