    Calendula Salve Recipe
    Calendula Flower Dried
Grapeseed Oil ( jojoba, olive oil, & coconut oil aoso work great)
    1 ounce Beeswax
    10 drops Essential Oil (optional)
Pack a clean jar with dried calendula, cover with oil to top of jar. Place covered jar in a bright spot for 4-6 weeks to infuse. Shake jar once every day.
After the oil has infused, strain out all the calendula (I strained mine twice). Gently warm oil up in the top of a double boiler, when warm, add 1 ounce beeswax. Stir occasionally until melted and blended. Add essential oil if desired. Pour into clean jars and allow to cool and dry.

Elderberry Flower Syrup is wonderful. You only need a little syrup with club soda, and you have a special treat. You can also mix the syrup with apple juice. I bought an Elderberry just for that purpose. You use the flowers to make the syrup. There are some Tutorials online.

Miranda Beaudry there is SO much! I started all natural beauty and just researching you can learn so much! I went vegan and organic and found out more about all natural medicinal things. It’s way too much for me to even type out. Just research. You won’t regret it. Etsy is full of amazing women who make their own cosmetics, body care, medicinal salves, oils, etc. once you open that knowledge for yourself, it’s endless. I would be so interested in videos with Mama Andrews about all this too!

I love calendula! I want to make this salve for my hands. I've been harvesting and using calendula flowers, for my stomach, for many years. I dated an herbologist when I was 20 (I'm 57, now! Wow! How did that happen?!?) and learned the benefits of it and chamomile together in a tea for upset stomachs. It is amazing! I learned a lot from him. I'm very thankful for it, too!
I think I will put a little bit of bee's wax in my slave and leave off the lavender. I don't do good with a lot of scented things.
    Thanks Laura! This is great!

This is so exciting! I would suggest however that if this still makes Benjamin’s skin “angry” to try it without any added fragrance. I need to use unscented products and always notice redness and irritation when I use scent. Essential oils aren’t exempt from this. Also, finding a gentle lotion containing colloidal oatmeal could work for him. But I do hope that this salve works 😊

    • @MsSkent17
      @MsSkent17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Emily Knetzer yes yes yes. Essential oils with fragrance are volatile oils and skin irritants. Just because its natural doesn’t mean its good for ya!

I've made a version of this recently myself and love it. I have worked with herbs for years and have always been happy with the results. My salve has a few more ingredients- I used both grape seed and apricot kernel oil to infuse my calendula, which worked nicely. I then mixed the oil with beeswax, as you did, but only a little as beeswax is so very hard. I also melted in some cocoa-butter and organic grass fed beef tallow (really). The beef tallow has a tiny odor so I used ylang ylang essential oil which made it smell heavenly. The tallow is worth the little bit of aroma because it is very rich and moisturizing. The result is the richest, most wonderfully hydrating salve you can imagine, and a little goes a very long way.

Hi Laura x Loved your video. I grow Calendula officinalis and harvest the flowers as they grow. I dry them on top of my Aga hotplate cover and store the petals in small glass jars. I add a teaspoon of dried petals to a cup of boiling water to make an infusion or ‘tea’. When it has cooled, I pour the liquid through a strainer. I soak small cotton wool balls in the liquid and apply to ‘hay-fever’ eyes.
An ancient medieval recipe that really works. Xx

This was a great video and I really appreciate that the content was different. How awesome that you can grow a flower and then make something so amazing out of it. How amazing that your mom was into all of that herbal stuff, and how amazing that it brings back those memories when you were a kid and how now you love those things, cause when we are kids we are never as appreciative as when we get older. Your Mom is so amazing and I love when you share things with her. Thanks again, stay safe and I will see you soon, XOXO, bye for now.

Nice, coffee with Laura and some wonderful homemade salve!!! I love the fact that this is something we could do at the Child Development center and the children would love being involved in it! Also I can do this at home as there doesn't need to be a large growing space for plants!! I live in an apartment and the dirt around my area is full of rocks and not good for growing so I am trying more containers this year and I think this will do great! Love Benjamin there saying " hey where's daddy" he is so sweet, hope this salve works for is face as well as your hands!

I use to own a candle business....To keep the the aroma vivid , add the fragrance in once you remove from heat . At the cool down temp of about 110-120 . Bees wax , paraffin and soy have different melt points . Fragrance oils have flash points as well . Best to add when below the melt point temp . Those look amazing . I’ll have to try this as well .

Hi Laura, I absolutely adore your vlog! I remember why is you asking if we thought your mom should start blogging and all of a sudden it hit made that she should do something like this you know because I would love to know more about herbs and what to do with them and how to make a lotions and healing salves, anyting medicinal, candles etc... Of course I would absolutely love to see you do that also or the both of you together because I think your mom is a wonderfully sweet lady and very knowledgeable and I just adore both of you and let's not forget are named Benjamin also! Anywho just a thought. God bless all of you guys!

Love this!!! It's so nice to have something that has 4 ingredients and you can pronounce all of them - and I'm a chemist!! I am going to grow some Calendula this year and try making this.

Thank you for the video. You inspired me to make other type of salve out of things in my garden! I have a huge orange tree and I hated to throw away so much orange peels. Now I know what to do with them. I can imagine you open an herbal salve product line soon! People would love your trustworthy products out of your garden!!!

I can't wait to try this, my skin is so dry and I love using things without all the chemicals. Wouldn't this be a great Christmas or Holiday gift and how special that you grew it in your garden. Would love more ideas like these. Have you ever made flavored vinegars or oils with things in the garden? 💚💚💚

Love it! You should definitely do an apothecary type series. I think it's perfectly appropriate for your channel because it involves growing some of the ingredients. I actually want a medicinal/tea herb garden someday that grows ingredients that allows me to make stuff like this or tasty teas.

I have used Calendula Salve before from the Farms Market and it does work well. Great now for washing hands all the time, mine get dried out a lot. Show a video of your mother getting hers that would be nice. One thing to use your new flower garden for, good job. You had a person asking about Elderberry bush and we have a Elderberry farm here that makes wine and cough syrup with it, and more. Bought a book many years ago with a friend on Herbs and flower for use and to make things with them. She has done far more then I, she is a science teacher high school and college level, but I'm catching up now. Thanks for the links on Beeswax we used a lot of it and 1oz. would be great, better then shaving it out and measuring it. Stay safe and garden on

Cannot wait to grow calendula this year. Calendula salve is $8.95 at our local store. Their ingredients were calendula, olive oil, beeswax and Vitamin E in little tiny jars. I like the tins you used and the addition of lavender extract probably makes it smell amazing! God bless you Laura. You give so much information to help us!!
