- After all the work in the garden, I sometimes get an odd twinge in my back and this balm offers powerful, natural pain relief. So simple to make, all you need is Cayenne Pepper, Olive Oil and some Beeswax. All the details are below so you can try making it yourself. Please follow the recipe exactly to avoid any harm. I am not responsible in any way for the outcome of your balm as I am merely sharing this recipe for interest.
If you are interested in making your own herbal balms and salves and other herbal medicines, consider my Introduction to Herbal Medicine course. More details about it here, - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
My other course which is available on line, the Wise Woman Way training, also includes herbal medicine but this course is a transpersonal course following the Celtic Wheel of the Year and drawing on druidic and shamanic techniques. You can find out more here - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...
The Weed Handbooks Volume 1 and Volume 2 are my two little books that reveal the powerful, healing potential of wild plants that are commonly regarded as weeds. The books encourage you to reconsider and reconnect with the wild plants close to you. You can find them in the shop - www.danusirishherbgarden.com/...

If you would like to make your own Cayenne Balm for aches and pains, here is the recipe. It is the same recipe for either the cold infusion method or the hot infusion method.
8ozs Olive oil
4 tablespoons of pure Cayenne Pepper - DO NOT USE A CHILLI PEPPER MIX
1 0Z Beeswax
Essential oils of Clove, Peppermint and Lavender, DO NOT USE FRAGRANCE OILS
For the cold infusion method - simply measure your Cayenne Pepper into a jar and pour over the Olive oil. Let this infuse for 4 - 6 weeks, (I always go for 6 weeks). Stir and shake each day to ensure the Cayenne pepper does not cake at the bottom of the jar. After 6 weeks strain out the Cayenne through sieve with at least a couple of pieces of muslin/cheesecloth in it. You can now use this Cayenne oil as it is or add beeswax to create a salve or balm. Place the Cayenne infused oil into a bowl and place in a pan of simmering water or into a double boiler and add the beeswax. When the beeswax has melted remove from the heat and pour into clean jars. After a moment or so, add the essential oils. When completely cool, place on the caps.
For the hot infusion - which only takes a number of hours - place the Cayenne pepper into a bowl or a pyrex jug, with the olive oil and heat very gently. Once it is warm, remove from the heat and allow to cool for twenty minutes. Heat again until the bowl or jug feels warm and then allow to cool again. Repeat this process for several hours or leave on a cooling stove overnight. (I warmed and cooled mine for about three hours but I think the finished balm would be more powerful if allowed to infuse for longer.) When you are satisfied that the Cayenne Pepper has infused for long enough, strain through a sieve and layers of muslin or cheesecloth. Add the beeswax. When the beeswax has melted, pour the infused oil into jars. When it is has cooled for a moment or so, add the essential oils and when fully cool, cap the jars and label.
Cayenne Pepper is an analgesic, blocking the pain signal to the brain. The heat can bring relief to aches and pains, arthritic joints, rheumatic pain, neurological pain, head aches, bumps and bruises. The essential oils are analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Apply only a small amount as a little goes a long way! ALWAYS ENSURE TO KEEP IT AWAY FROM BROKEN SKIN AND FROM THE EYES. I hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for watching! Have a great week x
Enjoy your videos - I made some cayenne oil 30 yrs ago to be used as you described. Well a friend of mine was in the hospital because of poor leg circulation, her legs were a deep purple color and the doctor would not release her until her legs improved. I went to visit and applied my cayenne oil to her legs. The doctor released her a couple of days later because the circulation had improved dramatically. Just wanted to share this with you. Have a great day!
How brilliant - the power of plants!
Was the cayenne oil you made 30 years ago what you gave your friend? If so, how old was the oil when you gave it to them? Was this healing just recently or in the long-ago past. Bottom line question - how long does this remedy last?
Cayenne is great for circulation!
Psalm 104 talks about nature and its power that God gives us!🙏🏼📖👈🏼
Amen, Glory to God, the One True God, Adonai! There is no one who comes next to Him. What a wonderful Creator of all natural things! 🙌🏼✨

The best balm for aches and pains is YOUR CHANNEL! Love it! Thank you! 😊❤🌟🕊
I concur!
Totally love this one, and going to give it a definite try. Love your garden and kitchen. Hugs to your dogs. 🧡
Cayenne pepper is great for so many things. I put some in cocoa at night before bed if Im feeling cold no sugar..!
Thank you Danu, I love your videos. They are so relaxing and soothing to watch. ❤ I'm studying at moment and ive got a big exam coming up and I just watched this, and it calmed me. Thank you ❤
Good luck with your exam. Believe in yourself and remember to take breaks from studying, every 20 mins or so, or even just stand up and have a shake. Burn Rosemary oil in a diffuser or oil burner and drink Rosemary tea for memory. x
❤Thank you SO much! I’ve had Rheumatoid Arthritis since childhood. This a a gift to find, the day after my 46th birthday!
Happy Birthday Kate - hope this helps. xx
Thanks so much for sharing the process and the recipe for this excellent salve.
You're welcome|!
Much cheaper than the Tiger Balm that I use so sparingly. Wonderful.
And use this sparingly too - a little goes a long way. xx
Thank you. @@DanusIrishHerbGarden
Thank you for this video! My first balm I did was a cold infused plantain balm I use mostly for chapped lips. I had enough made to gift to several others as well. I am looking forward to trying this recipe and having it ready for when I begin my spring gardening in April and May. Wishing you well from Ohio, USA
Taking notes Terri…I have a few aches and pains. Great video as always. Have a good week❤
Thanks Susanna - you too xx
Just what I need right now, as wrists and knees are sore. I'm beginning to dread working in the garden this year, I think the time has come for help. 😊
When l was a kid we would put cayenne pepper in our boots to help ķeep our feet warm thanks
Terri you are the best, start Sunday morning watching you!!!❤
Thank you so much, you are so kind xx
Always injoy your videos thank you
✨💚✨
Awesome video Terri, I am going to have to make some of that - especially as I usually ache all over after being in the garden - thank you x
Thank you❤
Thank You so much Terri for sharing this balm recipe as I suffer with neuropathy pain in my hands I'll definitely be making the recipe and trying it out. Your garden beds look absolutely lovely.
Both useful and informative, I've greatly enjoyed your video. A thousand thanks 🙏 for sharing it, dear Terry. Have a lovely 🌹 day!
This is fantastic!
I started keeping cayenne infused oil in my cabinet years back. It worked wonders for lower arms issues. A friend of mine mentioned trying oregano tincture for her carpal tunnel and how well it worked. I have since learned how to make salves and such. I cannot wait to add your recipe to my shelf. This hot infusion will be such a time saver for when I am in a time crunch. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful xx
💫🌱🌈🙏Thank-you xoxo
Thank you for this wonderful recipe 🙌☘️will be looking forward to the results from family ❣️
Lovely thank you ❤❤
Loved the scenes of working the early spring gardens. You're a couple of months ahead of us in coastal northeast US, so it's like a lovely preview of what's to come! Thanks for keeping the old ways alive
I can't wait to see colour again and to see the seedlings coming up. When I look at gardening channels on line , it whets the appetite. xx
Cayenne Pepper prevents plaque and it can also reduce plaque. I had 50% blockage in the Widow Maker below my stent in 2022 , after 6 months using Cheyenne Pepper 2 times a day it reduced 40 % according to the Heart Cath in 2023. I also use Cayenne Pepper for pain.
How did you take it?
Please let us know how you took it.
Thank you.
Great video! I'm going to give this a try! So much cheaper than at the store and all natural. Thank you and blessings! 🙏
One of my favorite ways to use cayenne is to add a tiny pinch to hot chocolate when I'm feeling chilled to the bone from working outside and can't seem to get warm enough. Thank you for this wonderful reminder to make some salve now that the weather allows me to get outside and putter about the garden 😎
That's a great idea! I will try that next time I am that cold xx
Cayenne pepper is a blessing. If you have chest problems have a drink with hot water, cayenne pepper, honey and enjoy! Very good for colds and winter days.
How much cayenne pepper do you put in a cup of hot water?
Thanks
Great video
Thank you! I really loved this video. Here in the Netherlands spring is not so far on her way. It seems to be a bit warmer in Ireland.
Just in time for my husband who has a sore knee. Great that all these ingredients are my basic ones, I can make some for him this afternoon. Thank you Terry for your channel, my husband and I watch it every Sunday and love it and you💜🐾
Sorry to hear his knee is sore. Don't use on broken skin though. Glad you enjoy the videos xx
I always wait for your videos and enjoy visiting your place every Sunday morning. Thank you for sharing your wisdom Terri and lots of love to you and your loved ones❤
Wow, thank you, I am so thrilled that you enjoy the videos each week. Much love to you too xx
I just made this yesterday for a friend who has a sore back. She showed me your video and then gave me a hunk of beeswax from her hives to use. I am a former herbal student, and had such fun creating your magic. I hope this gets my herbal juices flowing again so I can start making more medicines. Be well!
Wonderful! You'll be back in the saddle before you know it xx
So informative Terri! Who doesn’t have pain after age 30!
Thankfully I never had pain that young, only a little and only recently. xx Hope this is helpful to you. xx
As someone who spends a lot of time in New Orleans & Cajun Country of south Louisiana (US), I am a huge fan of cayenne!
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful salve! I will make this one. Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Hope you enjoy it! Blessings to you too xx
Good old Tiger Balm eh!
😉
The balm has a beautiful colour when it's solidified 💛
A lovely red!
Thank you!
¡Gracias!
💚💚💚
You're welcome xx
Cayenne is one of the great healers. Glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing ❤🙏
Welcome! I hope you enjoy the channel. xx
I really do. Keep up this great content. I love all the gardening tips and herbal remedies you make on here. It gives me more information on how to do these things myself.
Hi thank you that was amazing !
Can I ask what the shelf life would be please ?
I am absolutely going to try this recipe. It was lovely to see the cute dogs as well 😊
Remember to avoid touching your eyes. Enjoy making medicine!
I’ve been drinking coffee with ginger in the morning and my joints are less achy for work. After work I’ve been having orange honey ginger, cinnamon, thyme tea and fall asleep with it helping my joints too. I started making tea bags of the same for coworkers and they say they’re feeling/sleeping much better after work! ❤
Wonderful! So creative and tasty xx
So lovely Teri! X I'm going to make some❤
Thanks for sharing this Terri. My husband made Rosemary Gladstar's 'Creaky Bones Cayenne Rub' for me about 10 years ago, for my at the time hip pain. We have a magical butter machine, and it was ready PDQ. It works very well. One thing to note: I found the rub did stain anything I was wearing, turning anything white to grey. It was worth the effort. Blessings to you and Lol, from Canada. I love the background guitar music, Lol. 🍁
Thank you Karen! I'm still behind getting the album done but watch this space...
Thanks Karen, delighted to hear it worked so well for you. Yes I suppose it might stain if not rubbed in fully. Lol will be so happy you enjoy his music xx Blessings!
Hiya Terri Thankyou for sharing a healing balm that I believe we can all make. Blessings from a snowy blowy southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
You are right Beverly, it is so easy. Stay warm and cosy xx
If you get the cayenne pepper in your eye a quick remedy is milk. Good for many eye irritants like welder’s flash, chlorine from swimming pools etc…
What a brilliant tip - thanks for sharing xx
I use disposable gloves in the kitchen when handling raw meat. I think they will work if I use them to apply the balm. That way i won't have to worry about rubbing my eyes. I've done that more than once with other salves and it isn't fun! Thanks for the recipe.
You're welcome!
If you get pepper in your eyes rinse with milk.
Amazing Thank-you Terri as always easy to follow instructions look forward to making it. I hope you noth have a great week. ❤
Spring!🎉 I cant wait. I'm in New Hampshire, US. We won't see spring for about 2 months
So you have lots of time for dreaming and planning xx
I love cayenne pepper 🌶️ i like putting it in my hot cocoa . Thank you for making both examples and I use paper coffee filters when i strain my herbs when making tinctures wonder if it would work for this or the oil may be too thick to drain properly ? I'll give it a try and see ..all i can do is make a mess. 😂 God bless your gardens with abundance of good yummy things. Enjoy ❤
Thank you xx
Thank you so much! Bigs kisses to your 2 fluffy dogs❤🙏✨✨✨✨
You are so kind, I will let them know😂
Is there a difference between the results from the slow method versus the warm faster method?
I used to work for a cannabis dispensary in Illinois USA, and they have a Cayenne + CBD (anti-inflammatory cannabinoid) we'd always sell out it; really works! The magic is in the terpenes of the cayenne.
Good to know that you can get that medicine in some places xx
I can already think of several people I can gift this too! Thank you for continuously sharing your wisdom.
And I especially enjoyed Lol's music in this video!
Yes, I'd recommend applying it with protection for your fingers, not with bare skin.
I have all the organic ingredients on hand. I am going to make some today! Thank you so much! God Bless!
Great, go for it - remember to avoid touching your eyes xx
I’ve used the low setting on my crockpot overnight..
Will make some balm after our nephew's visit. Such lovely clear instruction, thank you . Enjoy your bee keepers course 💜 xx
Thanks Mary - and glad you enjoyed the video xx Enjoy your nephew's visit too xx
Thank you for this brilliant recipe. I shall get straight on it. I take pepper cayenne and turmeric in the juice of a lemon every morning and it seems to do wonders for creaking joints.
Great tip! xx
Great recipe ~thank you Terry! ☺️👍🏻👍🏻 And I thought the sunset was beautiful but the doggies at the end stole my heart ♥️♥️♥️
That's what they do!
I’ve got a hurt knee, I’ll be making some of this thank you Terri. I enjoy your weekly films.
Thanks, glad to hear that xx
It is so very nice to watch your videos. They are not staged like many I see here in North America, everything is kept so real and natural. Love the music, the relaxed vibes, the lessons and of course your garden and pups (can't forget the hostess and the photographer). When I want to relax and come down to earth your channel is definitely a go to! Thanks from Southwestern Ontario, Canada!
Wow, thank you! So chuffed you think so. Xx
Thank you so much for sharing as we get older pain of the joints is always there. Love to you dear friend.
Hey Cheryl, hope Spring is on its way to you xx
I appreciate you sharing this information. My guy has been having neck pain.
Hope it helps x
Good evening Terri, great informative video, I use Turmeric teas, I feel there is so much more to learn from you always a pleasure to see your garden and beautiful Ireland country. Hugs and Blessings to you & Lol. 💚🌹
You are so welcome and blessings to you too xx
I started making salves a few years ago and I absolutely love it, it is so easy and saves so much money. Thank you for sharing this one I have made cayenne salve before and love it. Such amazing healing power!
You are right! Cayenne is an incredible medicinal plant xx
I made a triple batch of this last week. I started by making a small half batch and went to add my lavender, of which I last used for soap, and instead of drops, I added a glug. I had to then infuse more oil and continue to make it with a safe 2% oil usage based on what had been used and what was missing! Phew! In the end, it is totally worth it. Thanks for the awesome video.
Thanks Terri, your film was wonderful as always! I will make some for my Arthritic husband and friends! Have a great week and don't work to hard. 🌿🌙💚
Thank you! You too! I will try not to over do it 😂
I have fibromyalgia. Just stopped taking medication that only gave me terrible side effects, so thank you so much for this!!
Hope it helps xx
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do both. I also thank you for taking your time to write everything out in the description box. That's quite generous of you!
It's my pleasure, I would love to know that everyone can do things for themselves x
That's an excellent addition to have in a herb remedy cabinet! Hehe - now if I can train my cat to put it on my back after I've been gardening. Will have to come up with a different plan.
It really is tennesseenana. Hope it helps you and hope the cat gets trained!😂
Hi Terri. I’ve just come in from the garden and wish I had some of your balm recipe to hand. Hands & back really complaining!! Will be making some tomorrow when I get all the ingredients. By the way I have made a batch of your laundry liquid. Its brilliant & I love adding the scented oil. So much cheaper & safer than shop brought. Thank you so much for all your inspirational films. Blessings to you. Naomi x
So happy to hear that you made the laundry liquid. Blessings to you too xx
Going to make it tomorrow. Really excited because I suffer from chronic pain
Let us know how it works for you please
SNAP! for Sunday 5 May... Are you making fast warm or slow cool?
badger balm has cayenne and ginger. It does not smell as strongly as something like tiger balm.
❤Thanks for sharing this video with us. It is a great resource for our well-being and happiness.
You are so sweet and very helpful ❤
Thank you so much! I hope you find it helpful xx
This is something anyone can make if they have a kitchen and a grocery store. Food is medicine. I may try it sometime!
Food IS medicine, you are right x
Sending many blessings in return.. thank you for this beautiful balm. ❤
Blessings to you too - you are very welcome! xx
I bet a crockpot on low could work
Yes, you could!
this will be a great add to my medicine chest...thank you! planning on taking your course this summer....can't wait
It really is a great addition and look forward to seeing you in summer xx
I’ve just made this. I am going to give a jar to my friend who has arthritis. Thank you. 🙂
Wonderful! Xx
can you use coconut oil vs olive?
I make different salves and infused oils. Usually, it's for someone needing something fairly quick.
Depending on the need, I might add different oils or fats together (or what I have available in the kitchen)with the different herbs in a crock pot. I'm waiting now for a few to crop up so I can do a proper salve that allows it to take its time, let them all get to know each other😁
Hi Danu love your recipes for natural healing ❤☘️
Thank you so much for sharing this Terri, it came at just the right time! I work as a gardener and have hurt my arm so working is hard going at the moment. I will definitely be making it this week. Blessings from Wales xx
Healing blessings, hope your arm gets well soon xx

I'm going to make this!! Thank you! May I ask where your dungarees are from? They're really nice!
Terry, nature's way is the best way🙏
I wholeheartedly agree x
Willow and wintergreen (that Ben Gay pain lotion smell) can provide the natural aspirin and buffers for a pain plaster as well.
How nice to have an affordable alternative to Tiger Balm. Thanks so much!

I just wanted to tell you that I watched this video the Sunday you put it up. I made the cold infusion process since it was and still is chilly outside and hard to stay out very long. So I made this cayenne pepper balm and it turned out so beautiful. I used it on my knee as I get pain there. It was amazing it took the pain away.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us here.
I'm so glad! Wonderful xx
I’m going to make this! Thank you Terri. 🥰
Hope you like it!
