HOW TO ENABLE ALL CORES IN WINDOWS 10

- Many games and other processor-heavy applications really require the CPU power of multiple cores. However, even if you have a dual, quad, six-core processor, you are not guaranteed that all of them are always turned on. By default, Windows will run all your cores. However, in some circumstances windows will set your active cores lower than the max. Problems arise when the Windows OS then never re-enables all the cores. If you have experienced a drastic slowdown in system performance, this could be your quick fix.
Go to Start and type msconfig.exe. Run the program as Administrator.
Click the Boot tab and choose Advanced Options.
Check the box labeled Number of processors. Pick from the list how many cores you want to run. Click Ok.
Note: If you number of processors is incorrectly displayed or disabled, try ticking detect HAL in the BOOT Advanced Options in msconfig and then rebooting first.
Click Ok again.
Click Restart.

Windows already sets your system to run on all the available cores that are on your CPU, so for example if you un tick this box it well set it to default which will automatically detect how many cores you have.

In Task Manager it say that I have 8 cores, 16 logical processors. So when I went to System Configuration to check it only saying one being use. I have an option to change to 1 - 16, should I change it to 8 or 16 ??

for eons its been embedded in the windows code that if that box is unchecked windows uses all core on chip by default. easily tested, and easy confirmed, its crazy this misconception it still around after a decade

I have a quad core i5. i used to have it set to 3 cores so that i had a spare if one failed, but now after i factory reset my pc it only shows 2. in device manager it knows i have 4 but in msconfig it only shows 2? im very confused :/

When that checkbox is left unchecked, Windows uses all available cores by default. This is a non-issue.
The feature only exists to restrict the CPU to less than the total available cores for troubleshooting.

Your OS knows how many cores you have.

Nope. This is backward. You can REDUCE the number of available cores by changing the value in msconfig. By default windows uses the maximum number of cores that you have, unless you have changed something in your BIOS. This setting would literally do nothing.

In the comment section they are saying you should uncheck the box above number of processor and restart your pc. That should bring your PC back to its default state.
So i reduced the amount of cores running on my AMD 3900x on windows 10 to play a game. i had to reduce them from 12 to 8. Now when i go MSCONFIG it says the max i have is 8 and also in bios it says i have 8

To deactivate the resulting "Core usage degradation". I.E. I have the Thread-Ripper 1950X which after trying this "tip" only displayed 16 CORES instead of 32 THREADS, simply uncheck the BOX before "Number of Processors" and Reboot.. Like it says.. "By default, Windows will run all your cores".. Also tried selecting 8 and then 1 with TERRIBLE results.. :)

Your computer only have 2 core, thats why you can only change it to 2 core

You need not to mess up the memory because it won't increase the amount of memory you already have. Just buy another stick of ram to increase it.

Uncheck both boxes for number of processors and memory, then hit okay, apply restart go back and you should see 4 :)

I had the 16 options earlier, I used 2 processors, turned one processor back instead of 2 now it will only let me get one processor.

All you have to do is leave the "number of processors" unchecked. Make sure it is one. Apply and save. Then restart. All your processors will go back. 😊

If your CPU is threaded, you have to put in the thread count, not the core count
