Grea to see an old 3LW brings back memories, I had a 3LW coupled to a Tillings 110v dynamo as a generater learned to drive on a Maudsley 6 wheeler steer with a 5LW, and upgraded to 8 wheeler Atkinson with a150 Gardener, great memories.
I too love these videos. I was always and still am a fan of gardner. I always wanted one but never got one. One thing intrigues. Why did gardner use chain driven actuation to the timing, camshaft and injection when it seems that the best was and still is helical gears. I am not an engineer, just a tinkerer but there doesn't seem much doubt in my mind that gears are more reliable, quieter but more expensive. (I have of course hesitate d to mention the toothed rubber band). I have an old Mercedes OM636 diesel ,a Fiat 605.00 diesel and a tiny kubota Z500 diesel , all antiques and all of which have helical gear drive. Why not gardner?
I love the fact that you still have such a close connection with you forebears , very heart warming.
Joe is the David Attenborough of diesels. I enjoy every bit of his videos.
Hi Joe ,love your videos,I could listen to you all daylong ,they are very interesting.

The timing chain (triplex remember) is one of the least troublesome components on Gardner.
I have been watching your videos and have gotten a lot out of it
