Nice work and very easy to watch . Is there no clips holding the gudgeon pins in place ?

Thanks for another interesting insight to the Gardner diesel engines, very well designed and the modular heads were 'ahead' of their time!
One thing though, on re-assembly of the heads I've heard they used a metal-to-metal interface with the cylinder block.
Were these lapped in place (like valves) or were they hand scraped using bearing blue?

Graeme, the LW and LX series engines used a conventional metallic head gasket.

Hi Joe, l served my time at Gardner’s Patricroft. Ended up as an engine builder and tester on the 8L3 and 6LXB in the 70s. Bringing back the memories 👍

Used on an awkward to reach head bolt. Socket on a socket. Thanks very much :)
