Definitely agree! It’s been 7 years for me as well and I don’t even think about the drug I was addicted to anymore. I realized it when I had to get a tooth pulled and they gave me 10 pain pills. I gave them to my mom to hold onto so she would have to give them to me and I only took 3. That would have been one dose for me back in the day if not more. That was 4 years ago. When you make the decision to be done, you will be. That’s the hardest part… no amounts of rehab facilities, AA/NA meetings, counseling, etc. will make and addict quit. They may help put them in the right direction. But at the end of the day, if they’re not ready, they’re going to find that fix. I believe she’s really trying. Im definitely rooting for her as well! I hope she knows she’s never alone in this fight ❤️

As a foster parent, I’m very impressed by mom. The rarity of a parent choosing their children over drugs, is probably around 3%, and even that is generous. Mom self-reported, and that does deserve recognition. I personally would slowly reintroduce the child in her home, starting w/ a day, then overnights. The stress that the child can create, could cause relapse. As long as she has family support, she appears extremely motivated to keep her sobriety.

@@mindysoccerfan 100%. I no longer go through the GAL! I’ve learned they do everything in their power to keep moms beaten down! I just went 88 days w/o the case mgr checking on mine, and I was told he’s “one of the good ones!” Parents need empowered! IF they’re making an effort. What happens is, they get continually pushed, harassed, told they’re no good, and that gets them in a mindset, that “what does it matter?” This so called system takes a child out of the frying pan, and puts them into the fire! Heartbreaking!!
I send mom videos daily, hold their pictures up and say, “mama, dada!” I’ve seen so much more progress this way, then the supposed “caring” system. 😡 I’m sorry! This is my soapbox! I get if parents have made zero effort, but every step is a baby step! They’re in this position bc of their own horrible upbringing, severe abuse that indoctrinated them to believe this is normal. I really try to show what is healthy/normal care in my videos. I show them how to make a bottle, bathe, change them, etc…these are duh’s for a lot of us, but honestly, they’ve never been shown proper care. I model everything I can think of, and send the videos as tools. I don’t do it in a way that makes them feel dumb, I just do them as I video!

As someone associated with CPS cases for over 30 years in a different state, I can say definitively that here, the mother absolutely would NEVER have to come up with the question "Is my child sick in any specifically special way?"!!! That was an in insane question from both those attorneys and the worker should be fired for her deliberate withholding of crucial information that is vital to the stated goal of reunification. Her social worker should be fired for not informing her about every single aspect of her child's health and care! (location identifying info is often withheld, but Serenity is apparently placed with a relative.). No one has said so that I heard, but I can only conclude that internally, secretly, the goal has changed from reunification with the mother to adoption by the foster parents, without informing anyone, and the mother's efforts are purposely being portrayed negatively and her involvement slowly eliminated.

One of the most frustrating parts about our foster care/CPS system, is watching the absolute disaster created by incompetent workers.
I see so many AWFUL parents escape the grasps of CPS, even though their children are in obvious danger, while on the other hand, so many parents out there who genuinely want their child(ren) back and put in the work to better themselves, get treated like trash and end up never getting their kids back.
That’s how big of a sh*thole the system in this country is.
Yes, there are unbelievably amazing social workers out there, like my sister in law, who have real passion and concern for safety of all children. However, across the board, they aren’t appropriately trained or educated to handle the real gravity of issues in homes. They’re lazy, judgmental or often times, ignorant. Let’s not leave out the obvious bias so many workers have coming into different cases.
The entire system needs to be overhauled and even though we *ALL* know this and how important of an issue is, nothing changes.
Children are still dying because of the broken CPS system.
The guardian ad litem here gave me a bad feeling.

She did the best she could with her other kids during the terrible parts of her life and she’s done her supervised and unsupervised visits consistently and without fail. She’s trying and she’s not only doing her best but she’s doing or done the things that the department required of her to get her child back. I understand they want consistency and time under her belt but this dude is argumentative to her, he interrupts every answer and he’s set her up to fail by putting words in her mouth. It’s not unheard of for another parent to assist in finances either. Wtf do they want for this mom other than to remove her child without proper cause! Give me a break! So many parents won’t do half of what she’s done. Give her her child back. Continue giving her “support.” Or in this case, criticizing her. Whatever just give that baby her mother and vice Versa!

So much for CPS supposedly supporting a child’s best interest by fostering the ideal outcome of reunification with their parent! This is really frustrating to watch. I understand an abundance of caution in a situation like this for sure, as the possibility of relapse is always ever present~ but this mom is doing what has been demanded of her. Only for her to literally be essentially attacked by a room full of people who clearly want to take her child from her. This is like a relentless bashing session and it’s not right at all. I really hope that mom doesn’t allow this to bring her down because she’s moving in a beautiful direction…

I'm not there, and none of us commenting have all the details that seem to be biasing the social worker but I wouldn't necessarily condemn the whole CPS system. It is easy for the field worker to develop biases that she might be blind to in herself, but they will affect her judgment and prevent her from giving the biological parent a fair chance. For example, there are many visits, tasks and services regarding the children she has to coordinate and that all involves a lot of contact with the foster placement, so she will inevitably develop a strong supportive relationship with the foster family. Or she may be uneducated enough to genuinely believe that the socioeconomic advantages available in the aunt's home are a better setting for the child than being raised by its parent. Or she may just subconsciously hate drug abusers, think they will always relapse, always present a risk, she may carry feelings from bad personal experiences in that vein in her own family, etc etc. Once biases develop, there are many ways a worker might look at the biological parent and never feel that the efforts are "good enough", which could lead her to - even unintentionally - minimize the mother's efforts so the case takes the direction towards a goal change of adoption by aunt/uncle rather than reunification. There are a million reasons one social worker can, without meaning to, sabotage a reunification with a parent and it doesn't change that safe reunification is always the agency's mission. If the worker has her mind made up, the supervisor knows only what is reported to her by the field worker, who possibly doesn't even know how badly she is skewing her reports. In theory, the GAL will be a neutral observer, to report on the child's behalf, but it's hard to know if that's happening here. I'm not defending the system, I'm just saying you can't judge the whole agency based on what you see one worker doing. The one in the field reporting can throw a lot of shade, (subconsciously or deliberately) and the agency will never know.

As a safeguarding officer I detest cps. They're funded kidnappers and this here shows they're not about reunification like they pretend they are. I see so many people trying hard and being honest & still get kicked in the teeth. How will I know if she can do it if u don't allow her to try. Seems to be they want the sister to keep the kid. I work with many families to get their kids back, most times I help for free as people can't afford the help legally. I'll do anything to help a family learn, grow and stay together. As long as it's safe, clean and in the best interests of the child.

I've been Sober for 17 years and I think she is to new in her recovery for full time care of her children, definitely more time and overnight but 3 kids or 4 is alot of stress for a mom especially newly sober, they don't even recommend relationships until a year of sobriety, she definitely says the right things but it's not 2nd nature to her yet, she should be able to identify triggers immediately and coping skills, that sounded rehearsed definitely on the right track and I applaud her for it, she is better off to get sober and stay that way then for her kids to be older going through it, I wasn't present for my kids whilst they were growing up, I was a functional pill addict who held a prestigious job in a hospital and managed to not get in trouble, but now my kids are in there 30's and have alot of anger issues regarding it, even though I've been sober this long, so if she doesn't get it together and stay that way now she is going to really screw up her kids far greater than they are already

And, then you hear of CPS cases of where they ignore red flags of terrible parents, and they don't remove the kids from bad situations, and then horrible things happento the child. It's backwards, this mom has done everything they have asked her to do, and then it's still not good enough. I don't like the Attorney Anthony S., he asks questions, but doesn't let the mom completely answer, he cuts her off to try and make her look bad. She’s never fully got her baby back because she always relapses at the 1 year to 18 month mark. The kids don’t deserve to be shuffled around just so she could try. Addicts need more clean time and need to be very intentional in what they want. My opinion is she’s on the right track and sister needs to get on board with the plan. She needs more clean time. Period.

Not to be rude or anything, but I think you’re oversimplifying the intent behind why people say “everybody has a past”. It’s not an encompassing statement about criminal history, it’s a statement of “everyone makes mistakes, everyone has things in their past that others could deem unsavory, but what truly matters is who they are now and what changes they’ve made to better their lives.”
Aside from that, having a criminal past doesn’t automatically correlate to “bad person”. In fact, some of the best people I’ve met have criminal history. That’s not a black and white issue.
