You are definitely someone who knows what they like and does it. You do no harm to other people and actually inform them of an interesting way of life. I’ve watched you since almost the beginning. You said, then, that you were in a bad place, stress, mental fatigue, and some stomach distress. You had also just recently gotten divorced, all of this is enough to get anyone down. Never saw you with or heard you talking about a bottle or a hit. Most of you cooking videos saw you drinking a juice of some sort. But in the beginning, when you were at some of your lowest, you spoke of the tranquility, and peace cruising gave you. You spoke of you restful slumber, more healthy eating by preparing your own food (with the occasional pork pie thrown in), and how courteous the folks you were meeting, were. With the exception of the attack at that New Years, you have been on the up tick. Your appearance now vs. then is incredible. You look happier, more content, and healthy. Even through the COVID lockdowns, you look better. So take this a encouragement, you know who you are, your loyal viewers know who you are, we have you back, mate. Cheers

Kevin, I found TBN at a time in my life when EVERYTHING was falling apart. I was in the midst of a major health crises, my career was at an end and I was being buffeted by awful depression and anxiety. All of this was before the onset of the pandemic. Watching your journey and listening to your observations about life have literally been therapy for me. You wanted a different life, so you boldly bought a boat and set out to create that life. How very inspiring and life affirming! Most people just honk on about how bleeding unfair life is to them but they never do anything about it. "Can't look after yourself??!" I could not get enough of your adventures, so went toTH-cam and found much more of you guys, and others: including Alan, and Annamarie and Kath, and others. You all have such distinct personalities, and I, a 75 year old wife of 56 years to the same man, mother of two and grandmother of 4, totally enjoy my discovery of Narrowboating and the canals….and following all of you gives my spirit calmness, something quite lovely to listen to when I wake in the night and can not go back to sleep, and certainly to distract in a delightful way during lockdown, and our ugly politics here in the USA. I do many things: garden, cook, craft, sew, travel……and all of you go with me via my iPad Pro. I look forward to future vlogs……and, hopefully next year my husband and I will make another trip to Europe, including the UK. It would be such fun to run into some of you “friends.”
I am going to say that anyone who can fix the things you fix; do the things you do to maintain bikes and boats; and put together professional videos does not have the time to abuse substances. Whenever someone sees someone who is perfectly happy living the life they want, they want to knock them down. I applaud you doing your own thing. Keep it up. I had covid over Christmas I watched this channel in hospital it help me in my recovery and now my marriage is over I find myself only able to relax and just let my mind rest and for that I thank you don't let the TH-cam comments get to you
I have multiple sclerosis and have to use a mobility scooter, because of the illness I slur my words, I have been approached by people who perceive me to be a degenerate alcoholic and a drain on society, this really hurts and has caused me to avoid going out. The reason I am sharing this is that I understand why you needed to clear this up and can see the hurt these comments have caused. My reality is that I am pretty much tea total and am lucky to be independently financially comfortable. What I miss in life is not being able to enjoy the interesting, active retirement I had planned however I love watching you live your life to the full, I am not sure what is missing in the life of people who see a man in a boat or on a mobility scooter and feel they must be stoned!!
The utmost respect to you David. Reminds me of an elderly chap I knew once. He had Parkinsons and for a long time people would avoid him like the plague, until he lost his cool one day and 'explained' to some idiots why he slurred his speech. There were a lot of red faces that day.

Ignore those comments. Please don't stop sharing you're occasional pub visits and local craft beer samplings while on your travels. They're some of my favorite bits here. I've been watching CHG since the first Aslan video. Your channel has been very therapeutic for me during tough times. Not to mention that working from home for the past year has been depressing. Just watching Aslan quietly putt-putt through the green countryside, and you living a 2 mile per hour lifestyle always boosts my spirits. The bike videos are an enjoyable contrast too. Please keep it up.
As a recovered alcoholic myself of 8 years, and a fan of yours for the last two years, I can say that I've never gotten the implication that you were a drunk or an alcoholic. if someone in recovery for 8 years is accusing you then shame on them, it's a total misrepresentation of any program of recovery or anyone that has been blessed with sobriety to accuse. It's been a hard year for those in recovery so perhaps they are just venting or projecting their problems. Alcoholics are a diverse class, it doesn't discriminate so we have our fair share of assholes, karens', liars, and cheaters, but most are good people trying to help others. Keep up the great chill content, love the channel.

We fight and die for freedom only when others work to take it away from us. Tyrants always take away personal freedom, with or without the consent of a democratic majority. Freedom must be there in the first place, i.e. innately or naturally, for it to be 'taken away'. So it's tyrannical leaders, acting through lies and brute force (as we are now witnessing in societies across the world), who give those who resist a reason for dying. There's an old saying: "Better to die free than to live in chains". It's tyranny that kills, by attacking our natural need to be free. We die because of tyranny, not freedom. Freedom never kills. I've been watching for two years, didn't even know what a narrow boat was or a canal. Your channel is my chill pill and lowers my stress just watching Aslan putt along the scenic canals. I do think you are a quirky guy and I mean that in the best way possible, you are fun to watch. keep up the good work. Being a recovered alcoholic myself, I've never seen you drunk on a show and people are crazy don't worry. One thing I've learned from being sober for a decade is anyone's sobriety beyond my own is none of my business. Crack on, have a beer for me and keep on chug'n. I admit I do worry about your diet mostly the bacon but I'm just jealous.

32 years sober here. If drinking doesn't impact your work, your health or your job you probably aren't an alcoholic. The only opinion that counts is yours. Critics are best ignored. Just wanted you to know I'm a fellow "as you say in UK MotorBike" addict, have been since about 12yrs of age in '60s when I built my own minibike then bought a Yamaha 80 then a Cimati 100 until maybe 30 bikes later both street and dirt variety. Now for the last 12 yrs I've been afflicted with the most severest of cases of Ducatista madness I'm almost 70 yrs young and still get hot and sweaty just thinking of hearing the blast of the 1200cc engine at full song thru the Akropovic pipes with those desmodrotic claterings as the revs build to 10krpm and the bars are trying to wrench themselves from my straining fingers with the traction control light blinking the rear wheel drifting and the front wheel clawing at the sky banked over exiting one of Angeles Crests fast sweepers. Beware MCing is a serious desease and you need to save yourself while you still can CHG. As for me I'm left to haunt the highways looking for the next apex to use the grunt of those massive pistons to drive machine and myself out of the corners as Dr.Taglioni intended. I don't know how anyone could say you are anywhere close to being an alcoholic by watching your videos. Clearly you drink only occasionally as you say and hopefully addressing it as forthrightly as you did today will put the matter to rest. On another point, I greatly enjoy your videos. It's not a stretch to say that in a small but meaningful way they have helped me through the most difficult time of my life. I was on Amazon looking for something to watch and I said I was going to watch whatever I land on and it just happened to be narrowboat so I started watching it and became a fan! This reminds me of the famous Sartre quote, "Hell is other people." As a sober alcoholic with 19 years of recovery, who is also a psychotherapist specializing in treating addiction; I can say that there is absolutely nothing in your videos that point to you having any of the aforementioned issues. Moreover, let me say that your videos have been a great source of joy for me during this pandemic, very therapeutic! Also, it's great to see you enjoying the occasional pint in a local pub. I’ve watched you since almost the beginning. You said, then, that you were in a bad place, stress, mental fatigue, and some stomach distress. You had also just recently gotten divorced, all of this is enough to get anyone down. Never saw you with or heard you talking about a bottle or a hit. Most of you cooking videos saw you drinking a juice of some sort. But in the beginning, when you were at some of your lowest, you spoke of the tranquility, and peace cruising gave you. You spoke of you restful slumber, more healthy eating by preparing your own food (with the occasional pork pie thrown in), and how courteous the folks you were meeting, were.
With the exception of the attack at that New Years, you have been on the up tick. Your appearance now vs. then is incredible. You look happier, more content, and healthy. Even through the COVID lockdowns, you look better.
So take this a encouragement, you know who you are, your loyal viewers know who you are, we have you back, mate. Cheers

Kevin, I found TBN at a time in my life when EVERYTHING was falling apart. I was in the midst of a major health crises, my career was at an end and I was being buffeted by awful depression and anxiety. All of this was before the onset of the pandemic. Watching your journey and listening to your observations about life have literally been therapy for me. You wanted a different life, so you boldly bought a boat and set out to create that life. How very inspiring and life affirming! Most people just honk on about how bleeding unfair life is to them but they never do anything about it. "Can't look after yourself??!" Not only do you appear to be doing admirably well looking after yourself, you have also been helping some of us do the same. Cheers and blessings to you.

Great you share, and clearly these things can be very hurtful for people you do not know, who do not know you to think they have the ability to “be helpful.” I first found you, and David, on Amazon Video. I could not get enough of your adventures, so went toTH-cam and found much more of you guys, and others: including Alan, and Annamarie and Kath, and others. You all have such distinct personalities, and I, a 75 year old wife of 56 years to the same man, mother of two and grandmother of 4, totally enjoy my discovery of Narrowboating and the canals….and following all of you gives my spirit calmness, something quite lovely to listen to when I wake in the night and can not go back to sleep, and certainly to distract in a delightful way during lockdown, and our ugly politics here in the USA. I do many things: garden, cook, craft, sew, travel……and all of you go with me via my iPad Pro. I look forward to future vlogs……and, hopefully next year my husband and I will make another trip to Europe, including the UK. It would be such fun to run into some of you “friends.”
I am going to say that anyone who can fix the things you fix; do the things you do to maintain bikes and boats; and put together professional videos does not have the time to abuse substances. Whenever someone sees someone who is perfectly happy living the life they want, they want to knock them down. I applaud you doing your own thing. Keep it up. I found your videos by accident and thoroughly enjoy the escape they give me from my daily life.

I have multiple sclerosis and have to use a mobility scooter, because of the illness I slur my words, I have been approached by people who perceive me to be a degenerate alcoholic and a drain on society, this really hurts and has caused me to avoid going out. The reason I am sharing this is that I understand why you needed to clear this up and can see the hurt these comments have caused. My reality is that I am pretty much tea total and am lucky to be independently financially comfortable. What I miss in life is not being able to enjoy the interesting, active retirement I had planned however I love watching you live your life to the full, I am not sure what is missing in the life of people who see a man in a boat or on a mobility scooter and feel they must be stoned!!
The utmost respect to you David. Reminds me of an elderly chap I knew once. He had Parkinsons and for a long time people would avoid him like the plague, until he lost his cool one day and 'explained' to some idiots why he slurred his speech. There were a lot of red faces that day.

As a recovered alcoholic myself of 8 years, and a fan of yours for the last two years, I can say that I've never gotten the implication that you were a drunk or an alcoholic. if someone in recovery for 8 years is accusing you then shame on them, it's a total misrepresentation of any program of recovery or anyone that has been blessed with sobriety to accuse. It's been a hard year for those in recovery so perhaps they are just venting or projecting their problems. Alcoholics are a diverse class, it doesn't discriminate so we have our fair share of assholes, karens', liars, and cheaters, but most are good people trying to help others. Keep up the great chill content, love the channel.

We fight and die for freedom only when others work to take it away from us. Tyrants always take away personal freedom, with or without the consent of a democratic majority. Freedom must be there in the first place, i.e. innately or naturally, for it to be 'taken away'.
So it's tyrannical leaders, acting through lies and brute force (as we are now witnessing in societies across the world), who give those who resist a reason for dying.

I've been watching for two years, didn't even know what a narrow boat was or a canal. Your channel is my chill pill and lowers my stress just watching Aslan putt along the scenic canals. Being a recovered alcoholic myself, I've never seen you drunk on a show and people are crazy don't worry. One thing I've learned from being sober for a decade is anyone's sobriety beyond my own is none of my business. Crack on, have a beer for me and keep on chug'n. I admit I do worry about your diet mostly the bacon but I'm just jealous.

.and I saw on the news a couple of weeks ago that a body had been found in the canal near to where you were attacked.
"If you don't fit the usual common picture (living in a regular house with a wife and some kids and maybe some pets) then there must be something wrong with you. Then you must use or produce drugs, be an alcoholic etc. etc.." There are some people out there believing it has to be the truth.

Just wanted you to know I'm a fellow "as you say in UK MotorBike" addict, have been since about 12yrs of age in '60s when I built my own minibike then bought a Yamaha 80 then a Cimati 100 until maybe 30 bikes later both street and dirt variety. Now for the last 12 yrs I've been afflicted with the most severest of cases of Ducatista madness I'm almost 70 yrs young and still get hot and sweaty just thinking of hearing the blast of the 1200cc engine at full song thru the Akropovic pipes with those desmodrotic claterings as the revs build to 10krpm and the bars are trying to wrench themselves from my straining fingers with the traction control light blinking the rear wheel drifting and the front wheel clawing at the sky banked over exiting one of Angeles Crests fast sweepers. Beware MCing is a serious desease and you need to save yourself while you still can CHG. As for me I'm left to haunt the highways looking for the next apex to use the grunt of those massive pistons to drive machine and myself out of the corners as Dr.Taglioni intended. Wanting to let you know, Country House Gent, your vlogs helped me to get through my tough times in my self imposed house stay down in 2020. My news here in USA was unwatchable: looters, fire in my previous home city, destruction of my country, the shattering of our ( your ) 1215 King John Magna Carta [ order of law ] in our Washington DC politics, all unbearable, but you gave me a great pastime on the big home screen to avoid all that horror. I cannot believe someone feels they are in a position on their life journey to tell you how to live your life. You clearly are not an alcoholic or drug addict. Sounds like they are and protecting their own challenges on you. You do a great job, are professional and very thoughtful in your comments and VLOG narratives. I don't know how anyone could say you are anywhere close to being an alcoholic by watching your videos. Clearly you drink only occasionally as you say and hopefully addressing it as forthrightly as you did today will put the matter to rest. On another point, I greatly enjoy your videos. It's not a stretch to say that in a small but meaningful way they have helped me through the most difficult time of my life. I'm not in the clear yet, and probably never will be, but I look forward to watching each time. Thank you.

I try to see what's different. The countryside you travel is very different from where I live, San Diego county California, U.S. And to the jerk that said you couldn't care for yourself.....what video have they been watching? Anyone that can keep a boat, travel in it, do their shopping, laundry and can cook, plus do it all with a bit of humor is doing fine. Plus you produce great videos. Thank you for that.

I was on Amazon looking for something to watch and I said I was going to watch whatever I land on and it just happened to be narrowboat so I started watching it and became a fan! I couldn't hardly wait for the next season! So it was just by chance that I found you and I'm glad I did!
HI Kevin, I am sorry some you-tubers have wrongly judged you as an alcoholic/addict, or even imagined that you are in recovery from drugs and alcohol. This reminds me of the famous Sartre quote, "Hell is other people." As a sober alcoholic with 19 years of recovery, who is also a psychotherapist specializing in treating addiction; I can say that there is absolutely nothing in your videos that point to you having any of the aforementioned issues. Moreover, let me say that your videos have been a great source of joy for me during this pandemic, very therapeutic! Also, it's great to see you enjoying the occasional pint in a local pub. You should enjoy yourself!!! I get a sense of calm and peace from your videos, whether its rolling down the canals, or thundering down the road on your Harley. I'm also a motorbike rider.
