- Season's greeting everyone and yep, it soon come's round to that time as 2022 is almost upon us.
Of course, that's the perfect excuse for another 'festive' video - especially as I received in the last couple of days, a mysterious package from a viewer, in America . . .
Join me aboard narrowboat Aslan, as I not only open the envelope but am also bowled over by the contents and left, uncharacteristically, lost for words.
Also I share a favourite recipe of mine, a hot 'secret recipe' Chili Tea - except this time I use a type of chili pepper I've never tried before, with unexpected & mixed results . . .
Here's hoping 2022 becomes a more 'balanced' year for us all.

I was holding my breath when you tasted the tea. I believe what you used was a habenero (scotch bonnet) pepper. Bless you for being such a good sport, those things are blistering hot. I made jam this year with merlot, cherries and those peppers and it is quite toasty 😊. Cheers!!!

Dear sweet Kevin... I have to admit I sat in wait... knowing, but also enjoying your beautiful reaction to such generous gifts. And then... I laughed so hard, as you first sipped such a 'deadly' hot concoction. You have quite the 'cojones', to have even chopped that hot little devil up! It looked to be a Carolina Reaper or Ghost Pepper--hot as F on the scoville scale. Wow! This was such a fun episode, on so many levels! Yes that is real, what a nice caring lady. That pepper, looks like what we call here in Tucson, habanero, a very hot pepper. Have a great end to 2021 and let's hope 2022 is not run by the same idiots . Stay safe and warm.

@@CountryHouseGent I’m from The State of Maine (USA) and the season sees me off the water until may. In fact we are having a blizzard right now. But soon enough I’ll be back out on the water with a boat that is an extension of me. We breathe together, and I know every little thing that makes her tick. My boat is quite the opposite of yours, it’s smaller, extremely speedy, and is used as a fishing boat for people who’d like to catch everything from Cod to Atlantic Bluefin Tuna… I love her… BUT, I’ve watched your show on prime and I appreciate the slow and deliberate pace of your journeys…. I grew up sailing which by nature is also entirely different than my boat such as it is… I miss the slower deliberate pace of sailing, the ability to eat at a leisurely pace, to drink a cup of tea, or drink a beer…. And to drop an anchor or tie off on a dock… I miss sleeping aboard and waking up early to see the sun rising and the promise of the day ahead.
I see many of these same qualities in narrow boating… it’s a gift to have these opportunities I think. It makes me, like so many of your other viewers appreciate the experience. I’d like to try it once sometime. I’ll set an intention.
My daughter has a house in Paris… lucky girl… so I’ll be in Europe soon enough. I’ll look for a good boat to charter when I come.

So, you’re welcome to come and jump aboard… plenty of space for you to stay, and the most incredibly beautiful coast you’ve ever seen. I 100% guarantee that part… we also have dozens of Eagles and other raptors, as well as seals, whales, and other wildlife at hand.

I believe the pepper you used is either a Ghost pepper or a Habanero, both of which are much hotter than the normal chili variety. Looking forward to you sharing your future adventures! I thought it looked like either Scotch Bonnet or Habanero. Ghost peppers are less bulbous, and so hot I doubt Kevin could have handled it chopped without noting a burning on his hands.

It's probably already been said, but, I'm going to say it anyway. The "purpley bluey thing" running down the center of the bill is proof that it is not counterfeit. What a very generous viewer! I'm curious as to whether Skye made the gorgeous dove that graced the front of the card? Beautiful work, no matter who created it.
Yes there's some really intricate work on the dove - the front is carved differently to the back.
