I've been playing bass for 20 years and the thing that finally got me to use my pinky to fret consistently was learning guitar last year, I think a three fingered person could bass it up pretty good.
The way they wrote the guy at the music shop is really accurate. They're some of the nicest people you'll meet, even if it's just to sell you an instrument and some gear
He isn't just pulling the same string over and over throughout as so many people will joke that's all bass players do. He actually learned timing, a major and pentathonic scale and even a few cool licks. Plus he could already slap like a boss.
As a bass and electric guitar beginner I have to say you really get into the vibe when you find the right tone practice does make perfect but discovering is also key too.

I've always loved the bass so took up playing it. I'm only a few months in and am self taught (no one in my town teaches/plays) so it's a bit slower going but I'm loving it. A sound doesn't necessarily have to be complex to be incredible. There's a lot of simple but amazing bass lines.

At least in my experience it is true, I joined a band about 2-3 weeks ago and they needed a Bassist, so I got one and instantly picked it up in a day or so, it was really easy for me, still though my fingertips look like they’re herpes on my hand so it’s not all fun

Playing lead on bass is also really fun, as well as chords etc. You should check out bassists like Charles Berthound and Les Claypool; Virtuosos that manage to make the bass more difficult to play than the guitar.
Homer has always been skilled at music. This doesn't come out of nowhere, he plays the piano, guitar and all sorts of stuff. He even sings pretty well.
How they hung the blue double-P from the ceiling at 0:19 is very accurate. Also, Homer gets a Yamaha RBX, a great beginner’s bass. His basslines show great improvement, too!

right on. my first bass was a TRBX174 and i still play it 7 years later. it has great sustain, and it's one of the only P-basses i've seen that has 24 frets. i put some geezer pickups in it and now it's absolutely nasty.
To be fair his first attempt at playing though simple melodically has perfect timing and an even attack. Anyone who could do that straight away probably would be destined for great things :P

So then after getting some strings I noticed that the bill was $300 and the guy was still trying to ring me up for an insurance plan not only for an instrument I wasn't purchasing but it was an insurance plan turned down buying in the first place
