I love Toyota Land Cruiser, I remember when I was in Saudi Arabia that's my service, no SUV or truck could stand the heat and environment like the Toyota land cruiser, it will bring you to places you want to go. Its cooling system is the best in the industry.
so true my father has a FJ40 Land Cruiser and that thing has over 800,000miles with the original engine, gearbox, diffs and it runs like it drove out of the show room yesterday (but he last year he replaced the body with an aluminum one)
I agree, Toyota could do better considering its price. However, one must remember that the price you pay does not necessarily go to luxury as it does with Range Rover. The price mainly goes toward reliability. The Range Rover will typically give problems in 6-7 years, where as the Land Cruiser will go 15 years + easily, assuming both car are well taken care of.
I have a cruiser ute. bloody pricey but once you drive one you understand why. Really is rock solid and reliable even though it sounds like a cliché. Done 70000km towing a 3.5tonne drill rig and still no dramas. Epic machine
Its funny that you say that because whenever my dads RR broke down they would give him another one to take home until his one was finish.. Its part of the service.
I currently own the LC80 and LC200.. I have also had 3 LC100.. I love them all, but stay away from the 4.0 V6 in the bigger trucks that works well on an FJ but when you put that engine in these big trucks it is very under powered
I guess they also can afford a status cup of coffee and a magazine in the dealer reception while waiting for their broken everyday vehicle. There is rumor in our place that RR owners dont greets each other on workplace - they did it in the dealer workshop before they came to work.
I agree, the Land Cruiser has every bit of luxury anyone needs (except for perhaps air suspension, but it's rare that that becomes a serious need) but I think he's more referring to the brand. There's no denying that a Range Rover carries much more panache than a Toyota. That said, who cares? The beauty of the Land Cruiser is in its capability and no-nonsense approach. It's confidence without cockiness.
nyak63RUS yes you are right no air suspension but the reason is because this car needs to be tough and last forever those fancy electronic air suspensions wont be able to take as much stress as solid old school suspension plus i would assume the air would need more maintenance that is true but i would argue that range rovers have more prestige to the brand in the US and some of europe...but in countries in africa south/central america australia and asia the land cruiser is the epitome of a luxury car, so if u own one you have truly made it in life ppl dont buy range rovers..
Go to the lexus website and spec up the LX similarly to the LC which comes fully trimmed (there are no options) and you will see that the base lx is more expensive than the full spec LC. That explains the price. I own a 2013 LC to be honest the RR drives better on road there is no comparison. But the RR cost too much unless you took the base model. The LC is decent enough on road, better than the RR off road, carries more people, will last longer with fewer problems.
why does he say that a Suburban is too big? for a lot of people a Suburban is just right and is a lot more capable and gets about 1 mpg less fuel economy. The greater wheel base of the Suburban is really nice to have under many circumstances. Every vehicle has plusses and minuses, but the fact that this guy makes the stupid statement that a Suburban is "just too big" shows that he really is not a "car guy". My mother has owned many Suburbans and she and I found them ridiculously pleasant and easy to drive.
a larger vehicle doesnt necessarily mean better under all circumstances for example driving through the bush or up a river banked by trees a narrower or shorter vehicle may be better.
Now that my kids are out of car seats, pack and plays & strollers I can’t wait to get rid of my huge Yukon xl aka suburban. It is big..for sure. But to each their own.
Here in Afghanistan All of Deputy prime minister, ministers, deputy minister, US military, Afghan police are using Land cruiser most of them are the latest models. Its my dream to effort one sometimes.
79 000 $ is about 480 000 Norwegian KR an then we will just get in that price the 3,0dt with the front seats :P and if you want 5 seats then you have to pay about 800 000 Norwegian KR, that will then be about 133 000 $ :D
Well I can only speak of the area I am familiar with, here imports are very popular, tons of Toyotas and Hondas and very few Land Cruisers, people rather buy Highlanders and RX 350's cause we don't need 4 wheel drive, those who do just buy pickups. I see plenty of 3rd world videos and there are tons of Hilux and older Land Cruisers as well.
This current version approaches the LX 470 in price but the latter is much more luxurious, Toyota should indeed get rid of the poor selling Sequoia and lower the price on this one and you will see more of them out on the street.
@jimmyhoffa9 Not London, but of course people still buy them I didn't mean it in that sense. But the market has shrunk 10 years ago full size luxury SUV's were everywhere (I live in NYC) around here Range Rover's and Escalade's are a dime a dozen but other full size SUV's are much rarer sights than before.
I always though the Land Cruiser had a interior to compare to a Range Rover...it's nowhere near a Range Rover. The interior build quality is solid and rich looking, but isn't as good as the LX570. But atleast the interior doesn't creak and rattle like a Range Rover. Plus, these are one of the most reliable cars you can buy.
The reason they didnt give me a rent car is because I visited them only for oil&filter change! ;) Anyway, I really like RR style and aestethic, interrior and materials. But I will take that last forever over a beauty. I don't really like LC200. I would prefer the LC 100. Or my Tundra ;D Peace!
My family bought a used 2012-2013 land cruiser with arnd 20k miles and just had an engine overhaul bcs it was blowing dark smoke all the time. repair costs almost 10k.
WRONG!!!... People in the Middle East can afford Range Rover and MORE!!... but why do they USE Land Cruiser instead of Range Rovers?! Because it's the BEST!!! choice with EVERYTHING!!! :D
Yeah, they overpriced this and priced it out of the market years ago. Everyone I know that considers this just goes ahead and steps up to the Lexus LX instead.
@Punpupdabase, this is NOTHING like that, actually. Think car will last you 30 years. I'd like to see a GM or Hyundai do that. And I'd also love to see either of the make a ride that can take you anywhere.. the LC Is world famous for a reason.
Relatively cheap. It cost Usd 200,000 brand new in my home country while Camry will cost Usd 40,000 and considered common in the my country with annual per capita income of Usd12,000
Yeah this will sell in huge numbers nice truck but pointless and luxury SUV's are now a niche market nobody's buying full sized SUV's anymore crossovers dominate
range rovers are unreliable and overpriced suv's compared to land cruisers, ive seen 60's era Land cruisers that are still running all stock and did not went into any kind of restoration.
my underlying point still stands, just because of greater sales doesn't make for a better vehicle especially considering populations of countries. No doubt Jeep is far more popular in the US than in UK or Australia, US also has a massive population as part of Jeeps market.
That don't tell ma anything, In places where you need to cross tough terrain....I don't think you'ļl be that bothered about which has more sales. Fanboy.
Yes but extremely reliable and at least in Australia parts are pretty cheap and readily available if anything goes wrong. this is one of the most popular if not the most popular real off road 4WD in Australia next being the Nissan Patrol.
***** My mom had a 2008 LX 470 and it was a pice of crap. She paid $71k for it. For $71k you should have leather, nav, safety, real materials and a nice interior. It had leather, nav, safety. But the wood trim looked so fake the materials made to look like aluminum was just cheap flimsy plastic and the interior looked like a highlander interior. So they made be reliable but they're still pieces of crap. Goodbye loser ;)
ivan f In Saudi Arabia it is around $90,000-$100,000 depending on where you are buying it from, their is no tax in Saudi Arabia so the car has a fixed price.
sherif elsharkawy oh... i see, i thought LC in Saudi are more cheaper than here but still probably some of car are more cheaper than in here, but anyway my friends have the LC Prado, even though its not as big and more powerful as the LC 200 but still i guess its worth to buy ! :)

I actually still have a '99 land cruiser. He really means it when he says it will last you decades.
so true my father has a FJ40 Land Cruiser and that thing has over 800,000miles with the original engine, gearbox, diffs and it runs like it drove out of the show room yesterday (but he last year he replaced the body with an aluminum one)
PorkChop I still have the 99 Toyota Camry
really appreciate how you included the history of the Land Cruiser in your review... great touch!
You pay for reliability and quality, if you want to keep this car forever it will
I agree, Toyota could do better considering its price. However, one must remember that the price you pay does not necessarily go to luxury as it does with Range Rover. The price mainly goes toward reliability. The Range Rover will typically give problems in 6-7 years, where as the Land Cruiser will go 15 years + easily, assuming both car are well taken care of.
Btw check out the Lexus LX. It's basically an upscale model of this because Lexus is owned by Toyota.
and for the captain chair comment this is a purpose built car its meant to be practical and form follows function this isnt an escalade
I have a cruiser ute. bloody pricey but once you drive one you understand why. Really is rock solid and reliable even though it sounds like a cliché. Done 70000km towing a 3.5tonne drill rig and still no dramas. Epic machine
The best 4x4 in the World.
can anyone tell me what kind of a landcruiser the one at 0:58 is?saw it in a movie couple of days ago and absolutely fell in love to it.
Torben My It's a J60 from the 1980s. Here's a pic: commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Toyota_Land_Cruiser.jpg

LC is always the best. One of the most reliable vehicles on the earth.
The Middle East version starts at 55K, it's 4.0 litre V6 Engine. Land Cruiser is very popular in Iraq.
atlast video of AUTOBYTEL !
Toyota doesn't exaggerate when they say " lasts decades. "
please test drive and review the toyota prado
why do you keep saying "near luxury suv" what is luxury suv then? and what features does that have that the 2013 land cruiser does not have?
I agree, the Land Cruiser has every bit of luxury anyone needs (except for perhaps air suspension, but it's rare that that becomes a serious need) but I think he's more referring to the brand. your back,.,,
Arctic trucks have made it even better.
This is the 90% car in our country
Back in the early 2000's is wasn't fashionable if you weren't a Navigator, Escalade, Tahoe/Suburban, Range Rover, Nissan Armada you name it LoL
I mean you say the escalade is like the epitome of SUVs and the land cruiser has more equipment that the escalade doesnt even offer
Go to the lexus website and spec up the LX similarly to the LC which comes fully trimmed (there are no options) and you will see that the base lx is more expensive than the full spec LC. really? not bad. Here in Nicaragua is US115K =( But I heard it's even worse in Thailand or thereabouts!
LOVE THIS TRUCK!!! i just expect the interior materials to be on par with a 90k $ car and they are not : (
the LX is 81k....so why is the Land Cruiser 80k i dont understand..?
actually, you see it all the time in middle east Asia and some parts of eastern asia... ,
What bike rack?
I own a Landcruiser GX Edition 2014 and its awesome in the desert while gunting and BTW Im from Qatar
Nasser AlThani why'd you comment this twice
Where is this great nature (between 0.23-0.28 seconds)?
Its all about status, if you can afford a RR, you can afford to fix.. You'll never see important people like HM Queen Elizzy in a TOYOTA

I want this car.
a "bare bone Land Cruiser" is a V6 and costs around $45,000
not in the US, you hardly see any new ones around, too close in price to a Lexus.
Toyota doesn't have to change the land cruiser if u want more u go to the lexus lx for more luxury
I always though the Land Cruiser had a interior to compare to a Range Rover...it's nowhere near a Range Rover. The interior build quality is solid and rich looking, but isn't as good as the LX570. Peace!
Land Rover is a manufacturer like Toyota, whereas the Landcruiser is a model.
here is Saudi Arabia we have a more efficient 4.0L V6 that costs around $45,000.
Pretty cheap I might say.
Correction LX 570
Honestly, these things are amazing but $80k is way too steep.
My family bought a used 2012-2013 land cruiser with arnd 20k miles and just had an engine overhaul bcs it was blowing dark smoke all the time. repair costs almost 10k.
This vehicle is really common to saudi arabia
Obviously they wouldn't have DVD screens hahaha
Too expensive the price tag in Iraq for the top off the lineland cruiser 2013 is 65k$
WRONG!!!... People in the Middle East can afford Range Rover and MORE!!... but why do they USE Land Cruiser instead of Range Rovers?!
Because it's the BEST!!! choice with EVERYTHING!!! :D
he has a Land Cruiser? He must be rich!
what 80.000 $ .. for what ?
Agree.
aqui en Panama cuesta 112 000 dolares :S le aumentaron 8 000 del modelo de 2011 al 2012, por suerte mi papa logro la de 104 000 dolares
In my Country It cost like Twice the Price.....$16.0000....
With The Tax 500$ each year....hehe
in KSA its less expensive
Evoque the best suv on planey
If a surburban is "to big" get a tahoe
Yeah, they overpriced this and priced it out of the market years ago. Everyone I know that considers this just goes ahead and steps up to the Lexus LX instead.

LC is best, but i don't have money to bought it
i would prefer a sequoia
it almost half priced
it pretty much the same
80k no way
Pablo Torres Yeah for that money you might as well get the Land Cruiser's luxury brother the Lexus LX.
***** Exactly someone who thinks rationally but wouldn't buy either I'd take my money to the Range dealership
cameron-scott smith Just what I'd do. Or if I wanted to save some money, I'd get a Lincoln Navigator or a Mercedes GL.
***** The Range Rover is sharp, but the Toyota looks like a rental car if I didn't know much about cars I'd probably mistake this for a Highlander lol
Id rather get a jk rubicon and upgraded it. It will outwheel this land cruiser and range rover.
People who buy the Land Cruiser couldn't afford the Range Rover
😂😂😂just look at the residuals😂😂😂😂
80k?? For a toyota?
worth it! trust me.
That's what I was thinking, a Range Rover is cheaper!
NOT THE SAQULUA, JUST REMODEL IT TO KEEP IT!!! I LOVE THAT CAR
Relatively cheap. It cost Usd 200,000 brand new in my home country while Camry will cost Usd 40,000 and considered common in the my country with annual per capita income of Usd12,000
HOW RICH R U!! I mean thoses are expensive😌
You say a lot of true shit though jimmyhoffa9!
Yea right! 80,000 dollars for that! Never!!!!!!
Yeah this will sell in huge numbers nice truck but pointless and luxury SUV's are now a niche market nobody's buying full sized SUV's anymore crossovers dominate
nissan xterra is alot better off roader than this expensive land cruiser
how mutch is
range rovers are unreliable and overpriced suv's compared to land cruisers, ive seen 60's era Land cruisers that are still running all stock and did not went into any kind of restoration.
Great car but in my opinion, way overpriced
Rosendo Moreno me vale madre lo que te costó
The older versions are better they look more manly not like this soccer mom mobile.
Jeep has sold more then the land cruiser
it doesn't make them better. Im sure Ford has sold more cars than Porsche
Land Cruiser and Jeep are in the same price range...Porsche and Ford?...that't like saying Bicycles have sold more than Lambo's.
my underlying point still stands, just because of greater sales doesn't make for a better vehicle especially considering populations of countries. No doubt Jeep is far more popular in the US than in UK or Australia, US also has a massive population as part of Jeeps market.

So Fla US of A
This car is very expensive !!!
Yes but extremely reliable and at least in Australia parts are pretty cheap and readily available if anything goes wrong. this is one of the most popular if not the most popular real off road 4WD in Australia next being the Nissan Patrol.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! =(
Rather have an LR4 more practical, luxurious and $30,000 cheaper than this lump of crap
I have an Land Rover and it kept breaking down. The Toyota has never broken down. Not once.
bighands69 Land Rover's never break down as long as you maintenance them on time
@@4240cameron hahahahahah, you must have been new to the internet when you wrote that. th-cam.com/video/lBGfCiZmRAQ/w-d-xo.html
This guy really doesn't know how to review this land cruiser. Its the same as a Lexus except just badge toyota. lol
80k for this peace a of crap I hope these get banned in the US
***** same too you
*****
No, you're dumb. End of story.

+cameron-scott smith no dude its 80k for boxy boring crap wasteful V8 suv
I own a Landcruiser GX Edition 2014 and its awesome in the desert while gunting and BTW Im from Qatar
Is Saudi Arabia everyone drives a land cruiser, cheap, luxurious, reliable and fantastic in the desert.
im curious how much does it cost the LC in middle east? because here in indonesia it cost around USD 100.000 thanks to the fucking tax
ivan f In Saudi Arabia it is around $90,000-$100,000 depending on where you are buying it from, their is no tax in Saudi Arabia so the car has a fixed price.

+ivan f depends on what trim i purchased a 2012 and the new gen 2016 just came
for the 2012 models in 2012
it was as follows
GXR v8 4.6 308 HP fully loaded without leather seats it costs around 56k
VXR a 5.6 liter engine 368 HP similer to the one in the video costs around 72k USD
the new generation is almost the same price (its around 3000-5000 USD more expensive) because the land cruiser in kuwait in 2014 was being sold 6500 USD cheaper than the 2012-2013 model because of the heavy competition in kuwait with the Nissan patrol Y62 .
for the Americans who say its too expensive ,its one of the few cars that i can trust to drive 200 miles of sand dunes in the temperature of 120 F daily for 7 years and it wont even bother to show any wear .
there are people outside the US that drive their cars for 70k miles each year in extreme heat and terrains , and they only change oil and filter no luxury maintenance
the only cars that can take the hardest envirement with ease are the toyota land cruiser and the nissan patrol .
