    I once drove a 2017 Prado in North Africa ( Sudan ), road was full of massive potholes, rocks, sands, cracks and all sort of things. Prado drove on the road like a champ!
    Never enjoyed driving a car like driving a Prado, its an absolute beast! Going through potholes the Prado felt like a tank, going through any massive puddle of waters it was nothing for the Prado, the list goes on and on. I even had a small accident where someone (impatience) hit the right side pumper, fortunately his car took more damage and the Prado was like WASSUP. It honestly amasses me how Toyota managed to make such a legend SUV. If Toyota start selling medication, no one would be ever sick!

    My absolute favorite car! I am looking at importing one to Europe because here we do not have the petrol v8 and the diesel one is not really that reliable. You say this is the same engine as in the tundra, but it is not. All land cruisers are built in Japan unlike Tundras and Sequoias which are built in the US plant. All engine blocks made in Japan are ran by an MRI scan before they are cleared for assembly in order to make sure there are no air pockets in the cast. Yeah, I am a big LC200 geek :)

    Congratulations Doug. Well chosen. 👍 They'll just increase in value and so long as you look after it, you most likely won't lose money on it. But I think you're missing the factory tool kit. It is usually located in the tailgate storage bins you showed, and yours was empty. As for the flat floor folding 3rd row seat on the LC300, the way they were able to achieve this is by making the auxiliary fuel tank smaller and relocating it from the rear in the LC300 (110L vs 138L for the LC200). And this is smaller again compared to the LC80/LC100 at 145L. Though unsure if Nth America got Land Cruisers with factory fitted auxiliary fuel tanks. Here is Australia, all Land Cruisers come with OEM auxiliary tanks.

Now I’m looking for a white 2021 LC non-heritage trim level, w/ the red/brown/burgundy interior, or the Lexus LX570 version of same, sans running boards… the Japanese products are of superior build quality and their reliability is renowned, thus the high demand for late model examples

    • @fatmanoverlanding
      @fatmanoverlanding 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus knowing Toyota is extremely focused on manufacturing efficiency (ie. "The Toyota Way") having two separate characters will most likely take longer to fit. Even if this is just a second more, add that over a year, makes a huge difference - for Toyota, anyway.

    • @TheFPSPower
      @TheFPSPower 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Both, a single mould is cheaper than 2, gets manufactured faster and gets installed faster at the assembly line because it's easier to align.

    • @Fr8train003
      @Fr8train003 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Plastics engineering student here (actually only about 100 miles west of Nantucket, in Lowell MA) with some experience in product development and design. This is what I can most confidently say about the decision for grouped characters in lieu of 2 separate characters for the "V8" badge. Production molds at Toyota's scale have costs in the millions to about 10 million USD. You can imagine that you would want the perfect mold design for each part, maximizing part quality and minimizing defects at this price. A common practice for other car companies (and basically any other non-automotive brand) is they have multiple parts that they want to make with a single mold and they "daisy chain" them together so that all said parts can be molded together in a single shot (one molding cycle = every part you "daisy chained" is produced). The problem with this approach is that typically, many rules of injection molding with plastic are broken, and the end result is overall bad, "cheap" plastic parts. Their goal is to mold all of the parts in a chain and break off the plastic chains that connect the individual parts in a single mold (grab a plastic cup from your kitchen and look at the small rough dimple in the center of the bottom of the cup, this is the part that is broken off in the "chain" and is considered a defect in the automotive industry). This is cheap manufacturing and causes a lot of defects and warping due to the lack of mold optimization needed for each unique part in the chain. The way Toyota has designed the "V8" badge on the LC200 series sacrifices cosmetics with the oversized connecting rod between the "V" and the "8" for optimized injection molding practices. Plastic is easily able to evenly flow into both the V and the 8 through the connecting rod, and the cooling system in the mold can evenly cool the plastic such that an extremely uniform, flat, and strong part is produced. Sorry to ramble, but Toyota actually has some excellent automotive plastic design practices, even my salt/ocean rusted 98 4Runner has plastic panels on it that look new almost 25 years later. A well designed plastic part is meant to last a a lifetime or as close to it as possible, unlike "cheap" plastic products the masses have become conditioned to stereotype the material for.

    Hey Doug! One thing to note about this generation LC (and the respective LX 570) is that although it SUCKS gas, it doesn't actually suck it that much faster than the other v8 three row counterparts... But rather it only psychologically feels that way because unlike other cars who's gas light turns on when you have 40-50miles left, the LC light comes up when the car still has 20% of it's fuel left in the tank. That's on purpose. As you've noted over the years, this is the car that dictators and warlords need to be but reliable, not only by not breaking down in the middle of nowhere, but also by not running out of fuel. This car has a 24.6 gallon gas tank, but you’ll soon notice that if you fill right when the gas light turns on, you’re only pumping about 18.5~ gallons to top it up (I learned this on a road trip to Florida). Just something to note! Congratulations on your baby as well, I had my second child on Friday too!
